follow the big story out of oakland tonight. former police chief from texas has been announced as oakland's new chief. you know, city of oakland was without a permanent chief for more than a year. now. tonight, kron four's dan kerman has some insight into the new chief from those who knew him. for some oaklanders. it was last month's police commission candidates forum when they first got a look at oaklands new police chief floyd mitchell. i believe it's going to be a very challenging. >> opportunity for a police chief to come in and work with not only the members inside the department. >> community members and multiple governing authorities to work to move the the oakland police department forward. >> mitchell began his career with the kansas city, missouri police department after 25 years there, he became police chief in temple, texas population. 82,000 in 2019, he

10:37 pm
there, too. so all around we see the rain now affecting the entire bay area and really coming down in spots some places almost an inch of rain already. and we're still adding to that. so we've got more to go as we've got a night of a showers continuing. and then tomorrow, cold showers throughout the day. what a change in the weather to instead 70's. we'll be talking highs only in the 50's. maybe the low 60's, a chance of an isolated thunderstorm. i think a real possibility tomorrow. i'd be almost shocked if we didn't have some widely scattered thunderstorms and then sunday, maybe a chance of showers in the morning. i think we dry things out as we head towards sunday afternoon. but we are again in a very active pattern. so high pressure been sitting overhead, brought us that nice spring weather. but now looks like the pattern is going to be much wetter than dry over the coming days. so the rain moving through this afternoon across the bay area sliding on through bringing some downpours as we head toward late in the day, took some time to get here. maybe about an hour to be on the forecast. but now houston, there you go. you've got that rain falling around the bay area. some heavier amounts falling in some parts of bay area. now continuing. and that will be the case as we head
10:38 pm
throughout the night tonight will start to taper off becoming more scattered showers. the rain falling parts of the east bay right now, some of the cells a little bit heavier just near concord area to the south there. looking at some heavier cells moving into the doppler range, ramon area and also back toward the coastline in san jose. they're getting in the game. they're kind of dry early on. but now more rain headed their way. and we've got more rain that has been moving up along the coastline to and in toward the san mateo, some heavier amounts of rain headed there as well. so all in all storm systems that are going to be moving through are going to be on the colder side. so very unstable air pushing on through. that means a chance. some thunderstorms overnight tonight we'll watch the main front moved through becoming more widely scattered showers by tomorrow morning. but it's going to be on an officer. you see some sunshine in between the clouds and office and you see some of these one during storms roll on through the bay area to keep things wet throughout the day and then into tomorrow night looks like a stronger wave of moisture moving on through. so all that being said, we've got a long way to go. we've got a series of storms rolling in effect here, but almost all of california.
10:39 pm
so that's going to great for a water supply for our snow pack up in the high country. more storms coming right through next week as well. so tomorrow, much cooler highs only in the 50's and low 60's scattered showers around the bay area. your 10 10 for your boy. it looks very unsettled and wet right through the weekend. dry out on monday and tuesday. more rain on wednesday and possibly thursday. another storm system on friday and then the next week. wait to wet i know. can you believe looks like the first of april looks dry. >> ok, well, that's a beautiful. so getting no, that's not a joke. nice try our. it's the sonoma international film festival underway this weekend featuring dozens of movies from all around the world, including one that was inspired by a story first told right here on kron 4. it's a documentary based on the fine tale story i did about a ukrainian refugee family now here in the bay area. we wanted to rescue their cat from the war-torn country. >> filmmakers josh horowitz
