out has closed one of its locations. this oakland. and hundreds of workers in san mateo county pounding the pavement. we're live with these demands from the health care workers. >> from the bay station, you're watching kron. at noon. >> thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm justine waldman. happening right now. health care workers at seton medical center in daly city are on a two-day strike. union leaders say they're demanding better patient care. kron. 4 charles clifford live for us now in daly city where the strike is taking place. thanks for joining us. >> well, good morning. it been a brisk and breezy morning here in daly city. but you take a look behind me there. we've got hundreds of health care workers from seton medical center. this includes of occasional nurses, medical technicians, other employees are out on the picket lines today. they are upset. it appears because of the medical benefits that the hospital is

offering. the national union of healthcare workers or a new h w in the owners of seton medical center. hmc have been negotiating a new contract since late last year. >> the 2 sides appear close to an agreement on wages. but these workers say they decided to go out on strike because of recent changes to their employee health care benefits which have left many of them struggling to find hospitals and doctors who will take their insurance. i look in the hospital, but i cannot even take care of my family. john pace is a respiratory therapist at scene. he says his family's had to find new doctors because of changes to see medical plan. so would you like to see the company do revert back to the old health care system or our? i would like them to be able to cover because we've had to physicians right now. my daughter who had a physician since she was a baby, has had to change her position, a physician that she doesn't even know who doesn't even know we've poured a lot money

and effort into keeping this hospital open. see management says that to keep the hospital operating. they have had to make some changes to their health plan. >> but still believe it's a good deal. it's still a free health plan with, you know, a pretty broad physician network, $0 deductible, no deductible and the majority of copays are 10 to $15. the hospital said on monday that they are bringing in temporary workers in order to keep the hospital operating during the strike. at this point, it's not clear when the 2 sides will resume negotiations. all right, back live. now they plan on continuing the strike here in front seton medical center until 3 o'clock. this afternoon, though. >> plan on being back tomorrow morning. but for now in daly city, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> charles, thank santa clara countycnurses also announcing a three-day strike for what they are saying is an unfair labor practice in february. 97 1% of registered nurses, professional associations there, all the voting members

supported authorizing the strike. nurses claim the county is failing to bargain in good faith over working conditions, insufficient pay and safety issues over staffing ratios. more than 3700 nurses in santa clara county and that health and hospital system are represented by the r and pa and they're currently in contract negotiations with the county. the strike is set to take place from april. 2nd to april 4th. oakland's only in that location has now closed for good. this is the first time of the burger chain has had to shut down one of its locations because of crime kron four's. michael thomas has the details. >> in and out, corporate officials say the location did bring in money and sat right next to oakland airport. many times we will hopping off that plane, grabbing that california-based burger. but now that's no longer an option because of the crime in the area. the burger chain's corporate office says it was a tough decision in came as it continue to deal with constant car break-ins, property damage

in armed robberies along oakland's hegenberger corridor. >> adding that the issues created an unsafe environment for both customers and employees. yesterday was the last day and in and out burger was made in oakland. we heard from one former employee who says he feels like it's just another big hit for the town is a great play here. i mean, >> especially when i was here, the warriors was still hear. the latest was still here. everybody would come here after those just said it's closing down. got to move on. you know, that's what we can do. >> in a statement in and out, coo said, quote, we're grateful for the local community which has supported us for over 18 years. and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our associates and their families. this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company. but the top priority must be the safety. and this may be in announce first closure, but it's not the first business to abandon oakland's hegenberger corridor. dennis closed its location there last month and recently the taco bell announced it would no longer be opening up its dining room

to customers last week, city leaders in oakland announced a new plan to confront the crime at the corridor which stretches from oakland airport to international boulevard. there's said to be increased patrols by both oakland police and highway patrol. 7 days a week. the city is also investing 2 million dollars to help businesses hire private security and install security cameras. those in the oakland area that maybe craving that in and out burger will have to head over to alameda or san leandro. that's the very latest here in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas will send it back to live in the studio. >> a cafe that's been serving breakfast for a decade now joins the long list of area businesses dealing with break-ins. so here's the damage from school. it's cafe and fremont. the co-owner is saying the burglars broke through the front door friday morning and then ransacked the place they say that the crooks took thousands of dollars from the cash register and the safe. the co-owner says she's heartbroken, but local patrons vowing to show their support. >> come here every morning for

my breakfast. and these people are my family. and i was so hurt when i heard someone violated them because what you violate family valley, me as well. >> the manager says they're not doing a so if you see ony on the internet, it's a scam. but they do want people to know that they want them to all come in and enjoy their food. that's the best way to give them some support. toll prices to drive across the golden gate bridge are going to go up this summer. the golden gate bridge highway and transportation district board of directors approved a new toll increase that will go into effect on july. first, most drivers will see an increase of $0.50 from the current rate of 9.75. so starting this july, the toll invoice will be $10.25 fast track drivers who currently pay 8.75 to cross the bridge will start playing 9.25. when this hike goes into effect, there will be a $0.50 increase every july for the next 5 years until 2028, which

official officials say will raise about 140 million dollars. happening tonight. part of the richmond sandra fell bridge is going to close for repairs, according to caltrans, this will start at 7 and that's when the 2 far left lanes heading westbound on 5.80, will be closed so they can do repairs on the upper deck. so here's. sandra fell bridge. this looking out from the toll plaza tonight. traffic will be moved over to the right shoulder onto the bike path. so this will close access for pedestrians and bikes. both lanes will reopen tomorrow at 5 in the morning. caltrans says drivers should expect delays. caltrans adding that the lower deck of the bridge should also expect some delays due to an ongoing paint project. there and caltrain starting on to phase out their trains and replace them with electric cars. the agency invited people to say goodbye to the original trains for the final ride. caltrain also handed out poster showing the evolution of the service over

the years which shows the first train going into service in 18, 64. the transit line plans to launch an electric fleet in the fall. all right. here's what it looks like outside right now across the embarcadero in san francisco. we have meteorologist dave spahr with us today to go over the weather at noon and it feels a little chilly out there. yeah, that it will remain to get just good day, everybody. we have the scattered clouds that you just saw. that other shot. also at the golden gate bridge to kind of inconsistent because we had the nice. >> opening up of the skies of from the last few hours this morning, at least an you can see they fill back in again. the shot came through about say 09:00am or so. this morning with most the concentration of of a cloud cover was off to the east bay and south bay. it was relatively clear up north, but you see the flow pattern coming from northwest towards southeast. that's going continue all day. and it's kind of interesting because the profile of the atmosphere that is we measure like a sandwich going up at the

surface kind of moist and whatever barry driving to go upstairs, except for a small area. you can see that's helping this cloud cover comes through. so it's a lot of dry air around it. it's just not everywhere. there's a look at the winds, a little bit of a breeze. you charles clifford earlier talking about that on shore. it is winds at about the teens or so because this high has to get positioned in the right spot, at least for a day or so. things will be changing midweek, 60 antioch, most readings in the east bay in the 50's also popping 60 for santa rosa about 61. 60 san jose little cooler at the coast mid-fifties and for comparison sake, little cooler. the peninsula and up there. tucker kain a straight but other readings and lynn are right on the money. now we will have some changes in the middle portion of the forecast. we'll have some details on that a bit. justine, thank you so much. the california highway patrol has issued an amber be alert for a missing east palo alto teenager. >> this is a 16 year-old and nia maxey. she was last seen february 24th at about 10

o'clock at night on verb ran a drive-in. gardens way in east palo alto. she's 5 foot one about 110 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. she was last seen wearing a black top and black pants. authorities are looking for her and alameda santa clara sacramento, los angeles and orange counties. anyone who might know where should immediately call 9-1-1. we have some new details right now. but united airlines flight that was delayed more than 17 hours. the united flight was supposed to take off from sfo to go to aspen on friday and now skywest airlines, which operated that flight says the delay was caused by potential issues with the plane's brakes. skywest says wants to assure that the system was working. the flight was safely on its way to aspen. however, after landing, there was overcrowding on the runways leading to a delay and passengers also getting off the plane. boeing ceo dave calhoun is stepping down at the end of the year. the commercial plane maker under pressure from major airlines

district summer feeling fed up and concerned about traffic safety after a man was hit by a car at a bus stop in their neighborhood. just really concerned at just the state of or streets. it is the wild west right now. this happening exactly one week after a family of 4 was killed by a car at a bus stop in the west portal neighborhood. i feel a little bitesad, you know, and also a bit frustrated. the latest crash happened saturday afternoon just before 5 on fulton street and park presidio. the man was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head. police say the driver was cited on scene for multiple violations. jenin also came to the scene when she heard what happened. there was a poll with a sign there which you can see in the photos is bent back. if that. >> wolf haven't been there. who knows how much worse it could have. ben also cough is running against supervisor connie chan for her seat representing district one by were in charge would be putting in bollards tonight.

sf is advocating for the city to change the speed unfold street from 30 miles to 25 supervisor chance as she shares the frustrations. but the community and says we cannot afford any more delays. now this afternoon, the relatives of the family of 4 killed at the west portal bus stop are saying they have been moved by the outpouring of love and grief from all over the world. they released a statement that reads in part, dagan mattel, that we're warm and loving parents who had a deep love for their beautiful children and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their 2 little boys. they were also what one would call real life enhance ers, the kind of people everyone loved to be around. happy, funny, kind and always eager to make the best of what what life had to offer them. the outpouring of love and grief from all over the world, which is greatly moved us. is a testament to this. they also said the organs of the infant had been donated and will help save the lives of other children. we're

taking a live look outside across the golden gate bridge. some tourists, they're coming to visit the city. we have meteorologist dave spahr visiting with us today here at noon. and we have a couple of dry days ahead. but it's it's chilly out there it is. and we have more rain yet to come look at half moon bay here on u.s. looking here with like a deck of cloud cover. >> just hovering around the coast. we do still have that residual moisture a little bit. still hanging at the service to the recent rains, but not a lot. once you go upstairs, really a big patch of some dry air than it runs into some moisture. you can plainly see when you get much higher up. there's the flow pattern. this high has to position itself just right. by the way, tomorrow, probably be much better with opening up those skies for like a day or so where we're going to see invitation for more rain for the middle of the week. check again on those winds. they're onshore. pretty much hanging in the teens that the case. it looks like over the next about 48 hours or so. the breakdown today has quite a bit of cloud cover here. but to be fair to everybody at all times, we'll

call it kind of variable clouds. temperatures hovering in the upper 50's, although we're seeing some 60's break out and they are in the forecast highs to get some lower 60's and some of those inland spots. so let's get to future cast because this is what we're really watching here. again. cloud cover comes in goes looks like this will clear patch trying to develop tonight. but again, with some of that lower level moisture or probably get a little bit of patchy fog initially, but much better drying for looks like for the afternoon. this is the nice big break. we're going to see the warm up. you're going to feel a little warmer tomorrow than today. winds maybe not as active. and then here comes our next system. it's a quick mover in not as wet as what we will see come friday. that's a really big boy. there. it looks like we might go to salvage part of your weekend. coming up. but again, it looks like some rain might linger a bit into your saturday. also try 60 for a high today with variable clouds, san francisco. 61 for oakland, 63 for san jose and the best will to muster for alternate highs today. maybe getting up to the mid 60's

story, a mountain lion killed a man and severely injured his brother in eldorado county. >> the department of fish and wildlife says that the mountain lion has now been euthanized. we're going to has the update now on the condition of the teenager who survived the attack. >> an 18 year-old man remains in the hospital following an

attack by a mountain lion which killed his 21 year-old brother, 18 year-old. he went through multiple kind of throughout the night. still in the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery. thankfully. >> the attack happened at one 13 pm saturday in the area of darling bridge road in pearl, georgetown as the brothers were out and slur shed hunting, the younger brother was able to dial 9-1-1, for help. >> it will be a honda location the deputy to first reach. the younger brother notifies dispatch has evidence on medical with first patient, a 10 year old or outside the brother of 21 year old male down by the mountain lion. kind of flood water with

>> deputies followed the trail and located the older brother not long after roughly 10 minutes >> that they that's when they did locate unfortunate that the the 21 year-old to worcester determined to be deceased. at that time searching kyle parker says when deputies spotted the lion it was crouched down next to the older brother's body. >> deputies then fired at and added additional shots fired. >> but the lie and took off running at least 3 trappers with fish and wildlife and with the county's ag department later located the lion and euthanized it. sergeant parker says the family has received messages and prayers both locally and from across the country. >> they very much are very appreciative for the messages that are being sent. the last fatal lion attack in el dorado county happened 30 years ago when a lion attacked a 40 year-old woman who was running in the auburn state recreation

area, fatal on on the with humans is rare. but the encounters are rare in eldorado county rowena shaddox. >> early spring us a great time to hit the slopes, especially with more snow coming this weekend. but a new report says that ski slopes are becoming more and more dangerous. the la times did a study that found more than 6,000 skiers and boarders visited the emergency room in 2022, that's up 50% from 2016. it's believed more people are becoming distracted by their phones and video cameras while they're on the slopes, alcohol, marijuana as well. could also be seen as becoming a distraction. >> if you like us going cup here should smell like pine trees. and today i'm skiing down the slopes. you know, i see a little bottle of fireball. >> so i mean, that's the thing you have to worry about. >> our doctor says overall

they see more patients during peak ski season. so be careful. next time you're. >> hitting the slopes. all right. let's see if they're going up. more snow in tahoe with a quick live look outside here. looking out towards san francisco. we have dave spahr with us today at noon to talk about what's going we're getting some rain come friday says yeah, that's turning to snow by the weekend. and before we get there, we have some on wednesday as well. good day. they're just enough. check out the tahoe forecast since you mentioned that. >> what happens on wednesday starts off as some showers get the colder air in here. let's turn that into snow and look at the temperature drop here. 44 down to 38. so they're going to be following what we're going to get just a little bit of a delay in action there. all right. what we've got going on here, this is what it is in the east bay shoreline. we got a lot of that cloud cover this re developed across the region. we have tonight some clear patches working here, but lot of cloud cover has really return. we're going to still say variable clouds on balance today, but think you'll see some better clearing tomorrow. there's the flow pattern from

the northwest down to the southeast. winds are still with us at the surface. may not be as aggressive tomorrow again, once that high kind of places itself correctly. but we do have a nice onshore winds with the winds into the teens. nice climate control keeps temperatures down. we're checking-in 62, antioch, mostly 50's for much of the east bay up to the north. they've got 60 santa rosa. 61. meanwhile, the battle with chilly 55 in half moon bay. plus, the winds plus the fact they do have quite a bit of cloud cover there. and for the rest of the day, you can expect mostly cloudy to variable clouds. again, those temperatures getting through the 50's, but again, poking a little bit into the 60's. now lets ventral little bit into that forecast for the middle portion of the week. again, we see some variable clouds working in here. some clear patches. developing tonight, however, a little bit of the way of some fog will try to redevelop tonight and tomorrow morning. but most of those clouds are kind depart for us on tuesday. we'll see numbers bump up just a little bit temporarily. and then we can see the final approaches of

our wednesday system. this guy's a pretty fast mover not to very potent with it. so it's going to be a quick rain event. maybe linger a little bit on thursday. we clear it out, but then all eyes will be on that system. you mentioned on to get all of that and check into the 4 zone forecast for your monday and extended all packaged coming up in a bit. justine. say thank >> as state lawmakers to determine how to address california's projected multi-billion dollar deficit. they say tax revenue may help close the scaf last february's tax revenues came in hundreds of millions of dollars above what projected data from the department of finance shows year-to-date revenues are still trending down. the non-partisan legislative analyst's office says even with these revenues, the state will face a projected deficit of 73 billion dollars. that's much higher than the newsom administration's estimate of 38 billion dollars. the leaders are saying there's still a lot more work to be done >> even though february's tax

receives and you see the administration is as teammates, we know the revenues generally coming in lower than the forecast and that's concerning. and so we are prepared for some very difficult choices that. >> democratic leaders in the senate and assembly announced an early action plan they say will shrink the deficit by 12 to 18 billion dollars. on the other hand, gop lawmakers say that more spending may not be the key to better results. they say they want to make cuts to several programs. >> especially when we talk about homelessness is that we we reward only those areas that are proven to get results. lot of the programs are questionable. and those are the ones that should be the targeted for our consideration for what they call delays or cuts. and so let's go with what we know. works. >> the legislature will be on recess this week, but they are expected to vote on a budget action to shrink the deficit when they return early april.

truck for your local election headquarters and independent presidential candidate robert f kennedy juniorois coming to the bay area tomorrow. he will be announcing his choice for vice president in oakland. rfk is reportedly planning to name bay area native nicole shanahan his running mate. she apis a california attorney and an entrepreneur previously married to google co-founder sergey brin. she grew up in oakland and graduated from santa clara university law school. rfk junior was reportedly also considering former minnesota governor jesse ventura and new york jets quarterback aaron rodgers as potential running mates kron four's. catherine heenan just spoke with rfk junior today. she'll share more details and a live report coming up on kron. 4 news at 2. final numbers are showing that just about 47% of san francisco voters cast a ballot in the march 5th primary election. that's the lowest level for primary since 2012,

more than 233,000 ballots were cast. the city has more than 500,000 registered voters. almost 90% of ballots this year. we're vote by mail back in the 2012 presidential primary. voter turnout was just over 30 percents. fake petitions are allegedly circulating around solano county opposing california farmers plans to build a new city there. the county register of voters issued alert to residents saying there have been multiple reports of voters being misinformed by people collecting signatures. they either had incorrect information or petition to stop the east solano homes from being sold. also jobs in clean energy initiatives that have not been cleared for circulation. officials say only one local petition has been approved. it was authorized to rezone about 18,000 acres of solano county, agriculture land for this new community. anyone who believes that they signed a petition incorrectly. can request that their signature be removed. in

national news now. a new york judge has scheduled an april 15th trial date in former president donald trump's hush money case. the judge made this ruling today. the judge earlier had school that the ex president's lawyers as he weighed, went to reschedule the trial after a last-minute document dump caused a postponement of the original date. the judge had bristled at what he suggested were baseless. defense claims of prosecutorial misconduct appearing 2. abhiyan persuaded by trump's team's arguments that prosecutors had until recently concealed tens of thousands of pages of records from a previous federal investigation. trump's lawyers have also sought to delay the trial until after the supreme court rules on his claims of presidential immunity in his election interference case in washington. the high court is set to hear arguments there. april 25th. a new york court

of appeals agreed to hold off on collecting the former president's 454 million dollars. civil fraud judgment. if you can put up 175 million dollars within the next 10 days, if trump does, it will stop the clock on collection and prevent the state from seizing his assets while he appeals. the development coming today before the new york attorney general letitia james was expected to initiate some efforts to collect the judgment. trump's lawyers had pleaded for a state appeals court to halt the collection claiming it was and impractical impractical in possibility to get an underwriter to sign off on this bond for such a large sum. president joe biden, the former president, barack obama coming together again to celebrate the 15th, the 14th anniversary of the affordable care act. they were also joined by former house speaker nancy pelosi. this was saturday touting the efforts and the success of this initiative all while warning voters that donald trump would again tried to overturn the law. if you winds a second
