>> news station, this is. at 11. >> now at 11, a deadly plane crash near lake tahoe. at least 2 people have died and

the faa is on their way to the scene. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn truckee. police say that plane went down earlier this evening just about a mile away from the truckee tahoe airport. kimberly cruz is in truckee with the very latest. >> we've been here the past few hours and this continues to be a very active scene here. we're able to move even closer to the crash site. and take a look behind me. you can pieces of debris from that plane, including a tire that you see off to the side. and as we move even further down the railroads, you'll see union pacific railroad workers and other law enforcement agencies investigating even more debris from this plane. they've also been going down this hill and into these trees using their flash. i taking pictures and investigating the area there. now, what we know so far is that tricky. police has confirmed that at least 2 people died from this crash. but the number of people on board the plane that remains unknown at this time. the crash happened near the area of blends year-old driving a limping boulevard in nevada county. a lieutenant with truck epd described the plane

as the smaller plane at this time. we don't have any details on what caused the crash. but again, we're about one mile north of the truckee tahoe airport. the investigation of the crash will be handled by the federal aviation administration and the national transportation safety board, truckee police ads as of saturday night. there are no road closures and no threat to nearby structures. but this is a developing story as more information becomes available right to the very news update. >> and that was kimberly cruz reporting for us tonight in truckee. this comes as the sierra nevada area got hit with even more snow this weekend. this causing some serious safety concern for drivers. traffic had been moving slow along i-80 earlier today and at one point, cars were backed up for a couple of miles. as you can see here, crews are working to help get some chains on their tires. and let's take a live look right now at highway 80 in truckee. you can see the traffic a little backed up there. if you're heading up that way, you've got to be prepared. troppers gayle ong taking a look at the yes,

indeed. a winter storm warning in place and a winter storm advisory. so keep those chains handy. and of course, you saw the traffic people want to enjoy. >> the spring skiing less. so snow of the season, perhaps. let's go back here to the bay area. the last 48 hours, we saw some significant rain mainly in the santa cruz mountains, 2 inches and ben lowman and almost inch in san jose. but santa rosa reach over an inch and half of a just under that about half an inch in san francisco and oakland over the last 2 days. and we were busy today this lots of convective activity that has now come down and those showers are starting to taper off. here's what it looks like on the radar at this 11:00pm hour. just some scattered light rain now, much different picture earlier and you could just see east of milpitas some rain there and spotty rain drops across the bay area and in the north bay, as you could see dry

conditions tonight, easter sunday looks much better, calmer, maybe just a chance of some light rain. i think we saw today a 60's inland 50's by the coast. and a look ahead at the start of the week. sunshine so does get better. we have that wild weather. the hail a severe thunderstorm warning in the north bay and south bay. now we have sunshine heading our way and even upper 70's come tuesday. i'll have details in the extended forecast. >> thanks a lot. for the second time in as many days, smoke rises from san francisco's mission district. firefighters have responded to 2 fires in the same block and city leaders say they're not ruling out the possibility that arson is involved. the most recent fire broke out just before 2 o'clock this morning on why street between 15th and 16th. firefighters say car first went up in flames which left and then spread to 2 nearby buildings. crews went into the burning building too help people who were inside several were led

to safety, but not all were unscathed. 2 people had to be treated for minor injuries and 10 were forced out of their homes. >> the flames had spread of the back of the buildings. these are what we consider a ordinary construction or wood-frame buildings. these are older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. this rapidly expanded from a first alarm to 3rd alarm bringing over 100 census. the firefighters to the scene. >> well, this fire came just 24 hours after a fire damaged a historic church just blocks away. saint john, the evangelist episcopal church caught fire just before 3 o'clock friday morning. the outside the building was damaged, but the inside was saved. firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about 5 minutes. no one was hurt and the church is still able to move ahead with its planned easter events. but a member of the church staff says they don't think that this was an accident. >> very, very clear that someone with the church on fire. this was not.

accidental. church did not sistine massive structural didn't go up. it's there is exterior damage and we will be needing to repair that we secure that. the interior was largely untouched. >> supervisor hillary ronen who represents the mission district posted about the fires on facebook. she says in part, quote, i have been in contact with the staff at google. o and saint john's, the police department and the fire department. both incidents are being investigated as potential arson and are being taken extremely seriously. supervisor ronen also encourages anyone who has any information about these fires to contact san francisco police. the man is dead tonight after being ejected from a car in san francisco's know valley. the crash happened this morning on quiet residential street. this is video from the citizen app showing that car flipped over onto its roof. san francisco fire crews say the driver was ejected after hitting 3 parked

cars in the area of diamond and clippers streets. the man who was taken to the hospital died from his injuries. investigators had the streets shut down for him a few hours. in the east bay, a shelter in place has been lifted in san leandro after a police standoff. san leandro police say this started just before 3 o'clock this afternoon. they say a man stole a truck and then led police on a chase kron. 4 top are 2 men who say they saw what happened. >> well, there is red truck that crashed into the tree right there, knocked over the street sign. the tow truck came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car. that's >> well, after that the man police say was also carrying a knife. the locked himself inside of a different car and officer at the scene told kron 4 that the man appeared to be having some sort of mental episode. negotiators eventually talked him out and

he was taken to the hospital. in the north bay. fire crews rescued 3 people after a car drove off the road. and in new a creek near napa. cal fire lnu sharing these pictures of the accident. this happened off of highway 12 in the sonoma county border. according to firefighters, the 3 passengers had to be taken to the hospital. their conditions are unknown at this time. santa rosa police say they caught 2 men trying to steal a catalytic converter earlier today. the officers say they saw these 2 people near a parked truck during a patrol in the nad us our park area. one of them was underneath the truck using a power tool when police approached them. they notice the men were using a saw zaw tool to cut off the truck's catalytic converter the man who was under the truck was found out that he actually stole that truck. he was arrested. the other person involved is later released. in baltimore. crews continue to clean up in families are beginning to mourn. concerns are also growing about impacts on the supply chain. and the

cut off. this will eventually allow us to open up a temporary restricted channel that will help us to get more vessels in the water around the site of the collapse. this is not just about maryland. >> this is about our nation's economy. all that must be completed before they shift their focus to the rebuild. >> something that could take years and cost between 400 million to 1 billion dollars depending on the new bridge design the port of baltimore. the nation's 11 th-largest court is number one in the united states for auto truck and agricultural imports and exports. in addition to handling clothing and household goods, construction materials and produce. we looked into the numbers. the court of baltimore is a major economic driver for both the city and the state of maryland. not only does it directly support 15,000 jobs report was responsible for handling more than 52 million tons of cargo last year.

now that activity as this low pressure system will be moving southward. we're going to start to see some clearing now and more unsettled weather to our friends in southern california. so those showers starting to taper off at this hour and this evening. let's go to the sierra because snowflakes are falling there and there is a winter storm warning in place that winter storm advisory until late morning tomorrow. 11:00am a lot of people want to drive out there for that spring skiing. but just keep a eye on those road conditions and keep those chains handy. if you're heading out there as snow is in the forecast tomorrow. dry conditions monday, tuesday. and here is the future cast model for us here at home. this is 05:00am easter morning. you can see maybe some light rain. you will run into possibly some light rain in the morning or afternoon, but not a washout. as you can see, we're going to see some sunny skies for tomorrow on the holiday just in time after this week's wild weather. this is lunchtime. also partly cloudy skies, maybe a stray
