settled, but we'll get a little bit of an afternoon pop with that. that's pretty typical about those temperatures were in the 40's to about 50 ish to start things off. 53 going for san francisco. lot of 40's, meanwhile, the east bay. and that is actually ahead of where we were this time from yesterday. but the breakdown for you after those morning clouds that switching to mostly sunny with some scattered clouds leftover around the bay a little bit here. and there's that isolated chance of a passing shower again, isolated, very localized. well, more on that forecast and what it looks like next week as rain looks like it's coming back again. >> thank you, dave. well, developing news overnight. we're following the south bay. 3 people were sent to the hospital after an unknown odor was detected at an apartment building. kron four's. tiffany justice joins us live in san jose with details. good morning. tiffany. >> right, michael san jose fire working through the early morning hours trying to figure out where and why residents of this apartment complex were

smelling an unknown odor in the building. we want to show you a map, too. tell you exactly where this all happened. the building was evacuated for some time with the help of the vta. 3 people had to be taken to a local hospital for some care. san jose police calling it an unknown chemical exposure. we have reached back out to san jose officials to learn more about what happened here this morning. but light back out here. you can see residents are back inside of the building. everything seems ok at this time, but we are going to stay here and gather more information to bring that to you. back to you in studio, michael. all right. thank you, tiffany. >> well, moving over to another story. a deadly plane crash near lake tahoe killing at least 2 people. now truckee police say the plane went down saturday evening just about a mile from truckee tahoe airport reporter kimberly cruz is in truckee with the latest details. >> and take a look behind me. you can pieces of debris from that plane, including a tire that you see off to the side.

and as we move even further down the road, roads, you'll see union pacific railroad workers and other law enforcement agencies and best a gate in even more debris from this plane. they've also been going down this hill and into these trees using their flash. i taking pictures and investigating the area there. now, what we know so far is that tricky. police has confirmed that at least 2 people died from this crash. but the number of people on board the plane that remains unknown at this time. the crash happened near the area of glen driving olympic boulevard in nevada county. a lieutenant with truck epd described the plane as the smaller plane. >> at this time, we don't have any details on what caused the crash. but again, we're about one mile north of the truckee tahoe airport. the investigation of the crash will be handled by the federal aviation administration and the national transportation safety board, truckee police ads as of saturday night. there are no road closures and no threat to nearby structures. but this is a developing story as more information becomes available right the very news update. >> well, for the second time in 24 hours, smoke rises from

san francisco's mission district. firefighters have responded to 2 fires on the same block. and city leaders say they're not ruling out the possibility of arson. now, the most recent fire broke out just before 2 o'clock saturday morning on weezy street between 15th and 16th street. firefighters say a car first went up in flames which leapt and spread to 2 nearby buildings where people were inside. crews were able to get into the burning building and help several to safety. however, 2 others were treated however, 2 others were treated for minor injuries. in total, forced out of their home. >> the flames had spread of the back of the buildings. these are what we consider a ordinary construction or wood-frame buildings, older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. this rapidly expanded from a first alarm to 3rd alarm bringing over 107 says the firefighters to the scene. >> now this all comes about 24 hours after a fire damaged a historic church just blocks

away. saint john in the in the even jaelynn just excuse me. even jaelynn just lifts a cool church caught fire just before 3 friday morning. now the outside of the building was damaged, but the inside was saved. firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about 5 minutes or so. no one was hurt in the church is still able to move ahead with its planned easter events for today. but a member of the church staff says they don't think this was an accident. >> very, very clear that someone left the church on fire. this was not. accidental. thankfully of church did not sistine massive structural didn't go up. it's there is exterior damage we will be needing to repair that we secure that. the interior was largely untouched. >> supervisor hillary ronen who represents the mission district posted about the fires on facebook. you can see she's saying, quote, in part i have been in contact with staff at qb and saint john's

along with police and fire. both incidents are being investigated as potential arson and are being taken extremely seriously. supervisor ronen also encourages anyone with information about either of these fires to contact police soon as possible. well, a man is dead after being ejected from a car in san francisco is valley neighborhood. the crash happened saturday morning on a residential street. this is video from the citizens app showing a car flipped on its roof. san francisco fire crews say the driver was ejected after hitting 3 parked cars in the area of diamond and clipper street. the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries to the streets were closed off for several hours as investigators scanned the area for evidence this morning, the streets are back open. well over in the east bay. a shelter-in-place has been lifted in san leandro after police standoff happened yesterday afternoon. leandro police say it started just before 3 o'clock when a man stole a truck that led police

on a chase. we spoke with 2 men who say they saw it all unfold. >> well, there is red truck that crashed into the tree right there, knocked over the street sign. the tow truck came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car. that's >> after that, the man who police say was also carrying at least one knife and not himself inside a different car. an officer at the scene told kron 4 the man appeared to be having some kind of a mental episode. negotiators eventually were able to talk him out of this and he was taken to a nearby hospital. kron 4 is your local election headquarters and we are profiling the top challengers for the san francisco mayoral race. this morning. we take a look at the candidate who once sat in the mayor seat for 6 months. kron four's stephanie lynn sat down with mark farrell on how he plans to get the job back. >> over the past 5 years, i've seen our city crumbled

candidate mark farrell, not mincing words over the problems he says are plaguing san francisco. san francisco used be the greatest place in the world to raise family. today is not the same. people do not feel safe in their own neighborhoods, let alone downtown the conditions of our streets have never been worse. and our local economy has suffered as a result. you know, we are now the of jokes across our country. and that should not be the case. the venture capitalist stepping back into the ring. >> with city politics where he previously served for 8 years first as district 2 supervisor, which includes the marina pacific heights, presidio heights and north of the panhandle. >> and serving 6 months as mayor after the death of ed lee in 2017. a key point farrell says that sets him apart from the competition. we don't have time for someone to come learn on the job. we need someone's going hit the ground running on day one. if you are elected mayor, what do you plan to accomplish in your

first 30 days? i do believe we need a new police chief. >> we have lost budget dollars and we can't recruit police officers. so we need a change in leadership promoting what he describes as a 0 tolerance policy on crime while promising to shield the city's public safety services from budget cuts. my budget plan. >> this year, include the addition of 250 new officers. we need to recruit additional officers transfer officers. we need to bring rep retired officers. >> we also need ro flood our police academy with new classes. then we start to get to work on local economic issues. i fully believe we need. we need to use tax incentives to bring employers back to the downtown core. my background includes over 20 years in the private sector. i know what it is to make payroll. i know what it is to see. companies do well and suffer. adding he'll clear all tent encampments in the city within a year as mayor before. >> i took out all over large tent encampments within 6 months. if elected mayor again, i will do it again. i

the 50's quick shot a radar. it's pretty quiet for right now. we still have in the cards. little chance of a passing little shower east bay shoreline and off towards the distance. there's the haziness and the cloud cover that's in place. which we're on the very northern edge of all of that. so we should see the sky conditions improve at all. that showed yesterday way down to the south. so really not looking at any thunder shower action. let's go to the future cast for here today. again, some variable clouds might pick up an isolated shower. notice how it's the higher elevations. it's getting hit by that. isolated is the word. not long-lasting. not going to be a day sport or at all goes away. and that's the end of the program. and they really not calling really for thunder showers with this is just an isolated pop-up little shower. monday, we start a warming phase continue on tuesday. looks like the marine layer is fun to get active there. wait a little bit a while and that system drops down by the middle of the week about those winds. we see the typical phase change that is we've had the low already got to get the high transition zone to fight.

in oklahoma saturday. this comes just days after a similar incident yet also deadly in the baltimore maryland area when the ship struck a bridge which later collapsed. the highway in oklahoma was closed while engineers inspected the bridge. but it since been reopened. no injuries were reported. well in baltimore, crews continue to clean up as families continue to mourn concerns grow about the impacts of the supply chain. and the bottom line for many americans newsnation's alina, sure easy has the latest. >> what started as a race against time for survivors is now a massive recovery projects unified command are conducting planning and engineering assessments. 24 hours a day. we have assets on the water enforcing safety zones. 24 hours a day. we have assessments on the dali being

conducted. 24 hours a day. maryland's governor wes moore today saying they're all hands on deck, working to cut and remove the first section of twisted steel from the bridge. the complicated extraction involves 10 tugboats, 9 barges, 8 salvage vessels and 7 floating cranes, including one capable of lifting 1000 times. the army corps and their partners will begin to move forward. >> with a crane operations today. the north sections of the key bridge are going to be cut up. this will eventually allow us to open up a temporary restricted channel that will help us to get more vessels in the water around the site of the collapse. this is not just about maryland. >> this is about our nation's economy. all that must be completed before they shift their focus to the rebuild. >> something that could take years and cost between 400 million to 1 billion dollars depending on the new bridge design the port of

baltimore. the nation's 11 th-largest court is number one in the united states for auto truck and agricultural imports and exports. in addition to handling clothing and household goods, construction materials and produce. we looked into the numbers. the port of baltimore is a major economic driver for both the city and the state of maryland. not only does it directly support 15,000 jobs report was responsible for handling more than 52 million tons of cargo last year. valuing it almost 81 billion dollars in a statement shipping company ports, america said it's diverting the flow of cargo to other areas until the channel into the port of baltimore can be safely navigated the governors of new york and new jersey opening up their ports for additional cargo. in the meantime, hoping to the stress on the supply chain will clear the wreckage. we will move the dolly. >> and we will rebuild the francis scott key bridge. we're going to do that. because we are maryland.

tough. we're baltimore, strong. and you can bet on that. >> that was alina shirazi reporting for us now. active shooter drills have become a new normal in schools across the country. but one california lawmaker says the drills are causing many students to experience anxiety and depression are a ton. wallace has the details. >> you're looking at a school shootings rely covered nearly 2 years ago at a sacramento area. high school. it featured crisis actors lying on the ground and on tables pretending to be least with weapons and first responders simulating an on-campus evacuation of the wounded. all of it something assemblymember chris ward recognizes as a necessity to ensure students are prepared in an era when school shootings have become all too common. i have 2 kids in elementary school myself. we need to make sure that y gaps are other ways to keep our community safe. he says, well, drills are rightfully focused on protecting students

physically. he believes more attention must turn, turn sharing. the drills are not causing students harm emotionally. we should do a better job, really setting some parameters around active shooter drills. >> so that they're not doing more harm than good. that's why he says he introduced assembly bill 18. 58 also known as the safe and prepared schools act. it will require school districts to set clear standards about how to conduct such drills and ensure the school community is made aware of the drill in advance something sacramento area student arianna williams said did not happen during to drill. she experienced at her high school. >> i had no clue if the lockdown was real or not. she spoke alongside war. but this recent press conference supporting his bill, the swat team filled the halls. the lockdown cause hysteria. i remember some of my classmates crying hyperventilating and panicking. and all i could think to do is text my mom and tell her i love her. even some of the drills. >> i have had some very horrible and that sometimes way more of a turn them to each i think should be exposed

to scenarios where they see victims lying around and think pools of blood for a simulated activity like an active shooter drill. it's important to run through that exercise but do so in a way that doesn't induce trauma. and that's why he says a major part of his legislation calls on schools to notify all students and staff about on campus mental health resources. he notes several studies, including this one from the georgia institute of technology showed nationwide up to 42% of students and staff reported an increase in stress. >> anxiety and depression after school shooting drill took place. we need to be prepared to make sure that we can keep our students, our staff and our in a safe space. and while we are still at the beginning of this year's legislative process, as of now, the bill has no formal opposition reporting at the state capitol. wallace kron. 4 news. >> well, still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, we take a look at the easter egg hunt that

just a little bit kind of curiously that's town of socal right now doing the same kind of performance in southern california where there's the chance of scattered thunder showers and hail. all that. but off to the far east look at an arizona that some of the subtropical jet bubbling up a little bit from down south. we're pretty much all shielded from all the activity, though, 40's for right now. good across a good chunk of the bay, some lower 50's to be thrown in there as well. open at 50 53 san francisco. 51 checking in for antioch and for today's highs. look for the mid to upper 60's and we'll have more on that 4 zone forecast with a look at the extended where it looks like rain wants to make a repeat return coming back again towards the end of next week. michael. >> all right. thank you, dave. well, now to the ongoing saga of sean diddy combs saturday, the new york post reporting the fbi is considering widening its probe of diddy after a lawsuit alleges that the rapper bragged about committing a 1999 shooting at a new york city club and even bribed witnesses and jurors after the fact news nation's emily finn has the latest.

>> over the past years, mister combs behavior has demonstrated. she appears to have a propensity towards violence. the long list of allegations diddy is facing could be growing with law enforcement sources telling the new york post that the infamous 1999, new york city nightclub shooting involving diddy. >> j lo and other musicians could be reinvestigated in a lawsuit last month. producer rodney little rob jones accused it of sexually assaulting him on numerous occasions and forcing him to acquire workers and drugs. those allegations are similar to alleged crimes. the records been accused of in the past. but the new details from the lawsuit focus on did these alleged behavior following the 1999 nightclub shooting. jones claims that diddy openly bragged about the shooting and that he bribed witnesses and jurors to make sure he was acquitted. jones also said that did he use j lo as a quote, gun mule to smuggle the weapon into the nightclub. newsnation interview to tanya rubin who alleges she was shot

that night back in 1999 and is even willing to undergo surgery to help with the trial for better to tell you what happened then the person who got and that and that between my i'm willing to have a doctor would move a part of the 9 millimeter bullet in my face so that they can use it as evidence if need be. so this time the did the saga began after homeland security raided the rapper's homes in los angeles and miami emptying safes, dismantling electronics and seizing security systems. there are allegations of trafficking, human trafficking, illegal ownership or possession, i should say of weapons as well as drugs. when you put weapons and drugs together in a mansion with multiple people, you're going to have the swat team deployed. >> there's no other way to effect and appropriate search warrant without those sorts of safeguards. brandon paul, who is described as a confidence and drug mule for diddy was

arrested in miami. at the same time the raids are being conducted. one of diddy's attorneys released a statement calling the raids a witch hunts and describing them as a gross overuse of military-level force. adding there is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. this stuff is really serious. specific allegations. i do have pulls that it's not just one person. >> it's several people that have not come forward. and i want to believe. >> that's the authorities have enough evidence to at least suspicion to justify what happened today. the raids happened one month after rodney jones filed his lawsuit and several months after 4 women including diddy's ex girlfriend, cassie came forward accusing him of running and epstein like operation involving trafficking and blackmailing high-profile celebrities and politicians. >> well, back here in the bay, asia sf is set to close today on transgender day of

visibility. it's the nightclub in san francisco where transgender carry out performances have happened and then held for nearly 3 decades. the club opened back in 1998. and quickly became a cultural landmark. the owners say they were unable to continue business because of the revenue they lost during the pandemic. however, they say the physical space is closing, but the legendary and legacy will live on through pop-up events. >> we want to look at this is not the end, but really the beginning of a new opportunity or we can take what we do. be on the doors of 9th. and howard, to, you know, all across the city in the bay area and beyond. >> now, the owners and workers say that over the years a nightclub has been an important sanctuary for transgender people. so they're excited to have those pop-up events. well, happening tomorrow, california's minimum wage for fast-food workers will jump to $20 an hour. but

not everyone is happy with the wage hike. several franchises have started cutting jobs to offset that rising wage costs and mcdonald's and chipotle have already started scaling back and saying that prices will be rising in response to the increased labor costs. the new law makes california minimum wage the highest in the country. well, easter is one of the busiest times of the year, especially for chocolate makers, despite chocolate costs rising and being at a record high. recent study shows that the price of chocolate rabbits has increased to 7% along with the chocolate eggs that have also increased to nearly 12%. both of the candies are averaging just under $3 for cost, which is higher than last year. that weather conditions in west africa, which is a global supplier of cocoa, is the reason for the price hikes in the national retail federation says they predict americans will spend around 3 billion dollars on candy. this easter.

>> we all like to do a lot of like she's charcuterie board night and nice to get like chocolate bars to go with that. and now it feels like that's the most expensive thing that we would have to buy. >> that big chocolate companies like hershey's and cadbury maker say that the are rising. raising their prices. excuse me. despite this, the companies say they still expect a big revenue from people willing to buy chocolate and overall easter spending this year is expected to reach a near record level. the national retail federation predicting that customers are expected to spend about 22 billion dollars to celebrate this easter season. well, medical bills can stress you out and might actually hurt your health. a new study shows debt is linked to worse, physical and mental health researchers for the american cancer society found as medical debt goes up, people had worse health and have taken years off of their life. this was not a cause and

on the kron 4 morning news. we're following a deadly plane crash near lake tahoe where at least 2 people have died. plus, residents are reacting after 2 fires happened in the mission district within 24 hours. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news >> good morning, everyone. and thank you for waking up with us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm michael thomas in for stefanie len. it is sunday and it's easter sunday. so before we get to this morning's headlines, let's check in with dave spahr. good morning, dave. how's the weather out there? >> well, a good morning, michael. good morning, everybody. we still have this deck of cloud cover, you know, kind of hang around. so we have like the appearances of overcast skies, not going to stay that way. all day today, though, it will open up quite nicely for easter sunday. they'll be the intrusion of

some scattered clouds are still with us. and there's that isolated chance of a firing up a little bit late this afternoon. you know, it's kind of almost like springtime pattern a little bit here where you've got some showers going on and some cloud cover and some sun to sell on the bag. here's what we've got to the east bay shoreline and still that that cloud cover here keeping the atmosphere somewhat stable. as you can see. and we're kind of on the northern fringe of all that activity usual know here that some of this is the slowest level moisture that it kind of has to mix out a bit. winds are calm, but we expect an afternoon pick up a little bit, which is typical when you get inland heating. right now we're at 51 for antioch. the east bay shoreline is in the lower 50's with plenty of 40's up to the north and also in the south bay. there's a comparison, by the way, little warmer in the east bay. it is this morning that we saw yesterday. so again, noting some of those scattered clouds in there and we have that isolated chance of a shower in the cards, too. little bit of warm-up over the next couple of to start off the week. but true to spring. we're going to see another change in a more of a shrinking of some rain

later during this week. ahead will have all that coming up in a michael. >> all right. thank you so much. stay well, developing news this morning. an apartment building evacuated overnight after firefighters received a call about an unknown odor. now it happened on lake avenue right near interstate 2.80, at around 9.30, last night. 3 people had to be taken to a hospital and the apartment was evacuated eventually hazmat team and the bomb squad were called in to investigate. officials did not find anything suspicious and residents were allowed back into the building, but not until around 1 o'clock this morning. well, a deadly plane crash near lake tahoe killing at least 2 people. truckee. police say the plane went down saturday evening just a mile away from chuckey top truckee tahoe airport reporter kimberly cruz is here for you now. >> take a look behind me. you can pieces of debris from that plane, including a tire that you see off to the side. >> and as we move even further down the railroads, you'll see

union pacific railroad workers and other law enforcement agencies investigating even more debris from this plane. they've also been going down this hill and into these trees using their flash. i taking pictures in investigating the area there. now, what we know so far is that tricky. police has confirmed that at least 2 people died from this crash. but the number of people on board the plane that remains unknown at this time. the crash happened near the area of blends year-old driving a limping boulevard in nevada county. a lieutenant with truck epd described the plane as the smaller plane at this time. we don't have any details on what caused the crash. but again, we're about one mile north of the truckee tahoe airport. the investigation of the crash will be handled by the federal aviation administration and the national transportation safety board, truckee police ads as of saturday night. there are no road closures and no threat to nearby structures. but this is a developing story as more information becomes available right to the very news update. >> well, for the second time in 24 hours, smoke rises from san francisco's mission district. firefighters had to

respond to 2 hours on the same excuse me, 2 fires on the same block and city leaders say they're not ruling out the possibility that arson is involved. the most recent fire broke out just before 2 o'clock saturday morning on we street between 15th and 16th street. firefighters say a car first went up in flames which leapt and spread to nearby buildings was total. 2 buildings. people were inside. crews were able to get into those burning buildings and help several to safety. however, 2 were treated for minor injuries. in total, 10 people were forced out of their homes. >> the flames that spread of the back of the buildings. these are what we consider a ordinary construction or wood-frame buildings, either older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. this rapidly expanded from a first alarm to 3rd alarm bringing over 107 says the firefighters to the scene. >> now, this all comes about 24 hours after a fire damaged a historic church just blocks away. saint john's church in san francisco, which caught

fire just before 3 o'clock friday morning. now the outside of the building was damaged, but the inside was saved and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about 5 minutes or so. no one was hurt and the church is still able to move forward with today's easter events. however, a member of the church staff says they don't think this was an accident. >> very, very clear that someone left the church on fire. this was not. accidental. thankfully of church did not sistine massive structural didn't go up. it's there is exterior damage and we will be needing to repair that we secure that. the interior was largely untouched. >> supervisor hillary ronen who represents mission districted post about this on her facebook. you can see she says in part, quote, i've been in contact with staff to and saint john's along with police and fire. both incidents are being investigated as potential arson. they're being taken extremely seriously.

supervisor. ronen also encourages anyone with information about either of these fires to contact police as soon as possible. well, a man is dead after being ejected from a car in san francisco's know we value neighborhood. crash happened saturday morning on a residential street. this is video you're seeing from citizens app showing that car flipped over on its roof. san francisco fire crews say the driver was ejected after being hit are after hitting 3 cars in the area was right around the diamond and clipper streets. the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he eventually died from his injuries in those streets were closed off for several hours as investigators scanned for evidence this morning, the streets are back open. well over in the east bay. a shelter-in-place has been lifted in san leandro after a police standoff happened saturday afternoon. san leandro police say it started just before 3 o'clock when a man stole a truck then led them on a police chase. know we did speak with 2 men who say they saw all of it unfold. >> well, there is that.

>> red truck that crashed into the tree right there, knocked over the street sign. the tow truck came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car. that's >> now after that man who police say was also carrying at least one knife, locked himself inside a different car. an officer at the scene told kron 4 that the man appeared to be having some type of a mental episode. negotiators eventually were brought out to the scene. they were able to talk with him and he eventually was taken to a nearby hospital. well, heading over to the north bay, fire crews rescue 3 people after a car drove off the road and into a creek near napa. calfire lnu sharing these pictures of the incident online saying it happened off of highway 12 near sonoma county bordering according to firefighters, 3 passengers were taken to a hospital. their conditions this morning are still unknown. in santa rosa. police say they caught 2

men trying to steal a catalytic converter saturday. officers say they were out patrolling and they saw 2 men near a parked truck in the mccollough park area. one of them was underneath the truck using this power tool when police approached them, they noticed the men were using a saw zaw tool to cut off the truck's catalytic converter the man who was under the truck was eventually arrested for stealing the truck and the other person involved was released at some point. new this a tnt altering customers alerting customers to possible data breach impacting more than 7 and a half million people. the company saying this morning that customers pass codes could have been compromised. in a statement, a tnt says they're still investigating. but right now it appears that the affected data is from 2019 or even earlier. they say it is not contain financial information. they're reaching out to current and former customers who may have been affected.

kron 4 is your local election headquarters and we're profiling the top challengers for the san francisco mayoral race. this morning. we take a look at a candidate who once sat in the mayor's seat for 6 months. kron 4 stephanie lin sat down with mark farrell and has the details about him trying to win that seat back. >> over the past 5 years, i've seen our city crumbled candidate mark farrell, not mincing words over the problems he says are plaguing san francisco. san francisco used to be the greatest place in the world to raise a family. today is not the same. people do not feel safe in their own neighborhoods, let alone downtown the conditions of our streets have never been worse. and our local economy has suffered as a result. you know, we are now the of jokes across our country. and that should not be the case. the venture capitalist stepping back into the ring. >> with city politics where he previously served for 8 years first as district 2 supervisor, which includes the

marina pacific heights, presidio heights and north of the panhandle. and serving 6 months as mayor after the death of ed lee in 2017. a key point farrell says that sets him apart from the competition. we don't have time for someone to come learn on the job. we need someone's going hit the ground running on day one. if you are elected mayor, what do you plan to accomplish in your first 30 days? i do believe we need a new police chief. we have lost budget dollars and we can't recruit police officers. so we need a change in leadership promoting what he describes as a 0 tolerance policy on crime while promising to shield the city's public safety services from budget cuts. my budget plan. >> this year, include the addition of 250 new officers. we need to recruit additional officers transfer officers. we need to bring rep retired officers. >> we also need to flood our police academy with new classes. then we start to get to work on local economic issues. i fully believe we need. we need to use tax

incentives to bring employers back to the downtown core. my background includes over 20 years in the private sector. i know what it is to make payroll. i know what it is to see. companies do well and suffer. adding he'll clear all tent encampments in the city within a year as mayor before. >> i took out all over large tent encampments within 6 months. if elected mayor again, i will do it again. i asked farrell if he's in favor of encampment sweeps given the city's ongoing legal battles, i would characterize sweeps. we treat these individuals with respect with compassion. we offer them shelter and housing. but if they refused our offer services, we will not make it convenient for them. no one is getting better by sleeping in tents and night on the streets of san francisco. this has to stop. this challenge are coming out of the gates swinging. look, san francisco is suffering and what we don't have is any vision out of city hall right now. so as mayor london breed fit to be mayor in 2025, yes or no, no. mayor breed has a great personal story. no doubt

departing us now. so we don't have all the same elements, but we still have in the cars a little chance of an isolated little shower. here's how it comes together. we're going watch that daytime heating lines up mostly in the east bay. it looks like in those higher elevations, particularly don't think necessarily we'll see quite the show we did from yesterday. and this again will be isolated. spotty pops up, moves on its merry way there. and actually, the skies start to open up, particularly in its wake. great for your monday. and it looks like it will be that much and tuesday to if anything else is bumping those temperatures up a little bit more. so winds. we'll see a little bit of a pop that happens due north. so we have the offshore winds happening here. for solano and napa counties, particularly not for an advisory, anything like that. but a nice little off shore pop. we would normally be more concerned about that. but for all the rain, we're pretty much insulated about. so for today, some scattered clouds and isolated showers. we discussed earlier in the week at sunny and warming pushing midland inland highs in the mid 70's. then a flip

>> with a crane operations today. the north sections of the key bridge are going to be cut off. this will eventually allow us to open up a temporary restricted channel that will help us to get more vessels in the water around the site of the collapse. this is not just about maryland. >> this is about our nation's economy. all that must be completed before they shift their focus to the rebuild. >> something that could take years and cost between 400 million to 1 billion dollars depending on the new bridge design the port of baltimore. the nation's 11 th-largest court is number one in the united states for auto truck and agricultural imports and exports. in addition to handling clothing and household goods, construction materials and produce. we looked into the numbers. the port of baltimore is a major economic driver for both the city and the state of maryland. not only does it directly support 15,000 jobs

>> you're looking at a school shootings rely covered nearly 2 years ago at a sacramento area. high school. it featured crisis actors lying on the ground and on tables pretending to be least with weapons and first responders simulating an on-campus evacuation of the wounded. all of it something assemblymember chris ward recognizes as a necessity to ensure students are prepared in an era when school shootings have become all too common. i have 2 kids in elementary school myself. we need to make sure that we're looking for security gaps are other ways to keep our community safe. he says, well, drills are rightfully focused on protecting students physically. he believes more attention must turn, turn sharing. the drills are not causing students harm emotionally. we should do a better job, really setting some parameters around active shooter drills. >> so that they're not doing more harm than good. that's why he says he introduced assembly bill 18. 58 also known as the safe and prepared schools act. it will require school districts to set clear standards about how to conduct

such drills and ensure the school community is made aware of the drill in advance. something sacramento area student arianna williams said did not happen during to drill. she experienced at her high school. >> i had no clue if the lockdown was real or not. she spoke alongside war. but this recent press conference supporting his bill, the swat team filled the halls. the lockdown cause hysteria. i remember some of my classmates crying hyperventilating and panicking. and all i could think to do is text my mom and tell her i love her. even some of the drills. >> have had some horrible and that sometimes way more much earned them. a each i think should be exposed to scenarios where they see victims lying around and think pools of blood for a simulated activity like an active shooter drill. it's important to run through that exercise but do so in a way that doesn't induce trauma. and that's why he says a major part of his legislation calls on schools to notify all students and staff about on campus mental health resources. he notes

well now to the ongoing saga of sean diddy combs saturday, the new york post reported that the fbi is considering widening its probe of diddy after a lawsuit alleges that the rapper bragged about committing a 1999 shooting at a new york city nightclub and even bribed witnesses and jurors after the fact newsnation's. emily finn has has details from the east coast. >> over the past 30 years, mister combs behavior has demonstrated. she appears to have a propensity towards violence. the long list of allegations diddy is facing could be growing with law enforcement sources telling the new york post that the infamous 1999, new york city nightclub shooting involving diddy. >> j lo and other musicians could be reinvestigated in a lawsuit last month. producer rodney little rob jones accused it of sexually assaulting him on numerous occasions and forcing him to acquire workers and drugs. those allegations are similar to alleged crimes. the wrecker is accused of in the past, but the new details from the

lawsuit focus on diddy's alleged behavior following the 1999 nightclub shooting. jones claims that diddy openly bragged about the shooting and that he bribed witnesses and jurors to make sure he was acquitted. jones also said that did he use j lo as a quote, gun mule to smuggle the weapon into the nightclub. newsnation interview to tanya rubin who alleges she was shot that night back in 1999. and he's even willing to undergo surgery to help with the trial better to tell you what happened then the person who got and that and that in between my willing to have a doctor would move a part of the 9 millimeter bullet in my face so that they can use it as evidence if need be. so this time the did the saga began after homeland security raided the rapper's homes in los angeles and miami emptying safes, dismantling electronics and seizing security systems. there are allegations of trafficking, human trafficking, illegal ownership or possession, i should say of weapons. >> as well as drugs when you

put weapons and drugs together in a mansion with multiple people, you're going to have the swat team deployed. there's no other way to effect and appropriate search warrant without those sorts of safeguards. brandon paul, who is described as a confidence and drug mule for diddy was arrested in miami. at the same time the raids are being conducted. one of diddy's attorneys released a statement calling the raids a witch hunts and describing them as a gross overuse of military-level force. adding there is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. this stuff is really serious. specific allegations i do have pull is that it's not just one person. >> it's several people that have not come forward. and i want to believe. >> that's the authorities have enough evidence to at least suspicion to justify what happened today. the raids happened one month after

how can we help with that? what is the overall goal so that we something like that doesn't happen again? well, the goal is to do your research first. >> rabbits are so much more work that a lot of people think they're not a good starter pet. they're great for people who want a small pad with a lot of personality. it's like having of eating cat. they when they're spayed and neutered litter box just like a cat and they're easily as intelligent as matter she's moving and so saving money. essentially, everybody. they're hoping that, you know, we can get some of these bunnies adopted, essentially were telling me instead of buying a chocolate bunny, you could actually help adopt one of these bunnies, right? and how can they do that? you're based out of mill valley are based in mill valley. we work with about 35 animal shelters. >> and so what people can do is they can go to our website. we have an application there and what we're looking for. our homes. >> that the bunny will be an integral part of the family. so the bunny will live indoors. i have run of the

house. it's ok being like, don't run. she's ok. and you know, i have a friend who has who has a bunny the adopted the bunny. and stephanie really do treat it in the house well as those kind of things in the really love and enjoy it. >> how many rescues have you guys been seen recently are how many do lays have right now that need to be rescued and given to a home? well, actually, right now we've got couple of 100 that are looking for homes. >> it's a real crisis in the bay area right now. the easter bunny's also start to show up during the summer vacations. people who got their easter bunnies are traveling and they dump them at the shelters and then a christmastime when those baby bunnies that were supposedly 2 females that they got at the pet store have been having babies. and so they dumped him at the shelter. so right now, the best thing to do is to if you're not sure about what it's like to live with a bunny to foster rabbit. we said everybody up with all the supplies that they need. and see if you'd like it.

>> and how long can they do that? so let's say you wanted to foster when they go to you all. and they say, hey, i want to foster. one is in a two-week process a month process. we try to make it work for each individual person. and we also work hard to match the right wrap it with the right families. so they may come in and say i want that little one, but they actually really want the big one that is going like just can is little really? yeah, we i've had bunnies are 15 pounds. they go and all types of. >> ages sizes and and talk a little bit about taking care of one to, let's say, you know, they do want to adopt one. >> is it a lot of work? i mean, what? what are some things that people should know if they're going into this adoption? what they should know is is that rapids are more work than a lot of people think they're definitely more work than a cat. they're close to the amount of work as a dog. it's not just parents didn't know and actually carrots or by giving them

>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at no. >> good morning, everyone. and thank you for joining us on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm michael thomas in for stefanie land. we've got a lot to talk about this sunday morning. but first, let's get a look at what the skies are looking like with dave spahr in the weather center. good morning well. good morning, michael. good morning, everybody. the sky's looking kind of overcast for right now over most of the bay and point certainly south. now, this will open up a little bit to kind of a mixed bag of those sun and clouds. and we do still run the risk of a few isolated showers, still working their magic. they look to be favoring the east bay and banging up against the east bay hills. a little bit. >> as we get an offshore flow pattern right now, we have the half moon bay on the screen there. you can see some of the sun trying to peer through behind it a little bit, but certainly almost stormy looking as you look off towards the sea. now it's a course to come see, though, as far as with the cloud cover, looks like again, we're kind of socked in right here and low level moisture we have to contend with as well. it's pretty moist all the way up. so this mixing process will be

9.30, last night. 3 people had to be taken to the hospital. the apartment was evacuated completely. a hazmat team was brought in along with the bomb squad to investigate. officials did not find anything suspicious and residents were allowed to return back into the building. but not until about 1 o'clock this morning. a deadly plane crash near lake tahoe killing at least 2 people. truckee. police say the plane went down saturday evening just about a mile or so from truckee tahoe airport recorder. kimberly cruz is in truckee with the details. >> take a look behind me. you can pieces of debris from that plane, including a tire that you see off to the side. >> and as we move even further down the road, roads, you'll see union pacific railroad workers and other law enforcement agencies and best a gate in even more debris from this plane. they've also been going down this hill and into these trees using their flash. i taking pictures in investigating the area there. now, what we know so far is that tricky. police has confirmed that at least 2 people died from this crash.

but the number of people on board the plane that remains unknown at this time. the crash happened near the area of blends year-old driving a limping boulevard in nevada county. a lieutenant with truck epd described the plane as the smaller plane at this time. we don't have any details on what caused the crash. but again, we're about one mile north of the truckee tahoe airport. the investigation of the crash will be handled by the federal aviation administration and the national transportation safety board, truckee police ads as of saturday night. there are no road closures and no threat to nearby structures. but this is a developing story as more information becomes available. right the very thing is update. >> well, for the second time in 24 hours, smoke rises from san francisco's mission district. firefighters had to respond to 2 separate fires on the same block. and city leaders say they're not ruling out the possibility that our son was involved now, the most recent fire broke out just before 2 o'clock saturday morning on we street between 15th and 16th street. firefighters say a car first went up in flames. eventually

those flames leapt in spread onto to nearby buildings. there were people inside those buildings. crews, however, were able to get into the burning building, help several people to safety but 2 were treated for minor injuries. in total, 10 people there were displaced and forced out of their homes. >> the flames had spread of the back of the buildings. these are what we consider a ordinary construction or wood-frame buildings, older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. this rapidly expanded from a first alarm to 3rd alarm bringing over 107 says the firefighters to the scene. >> now, this all comes about 24 hours after a fire damaged to happened at a historic church. just about a few blocks away. saint john's church in san francisco. it caught fire just before 3 o'clock friday morning. the outside of the building was damaged. and the inside, however, was saved. firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within about 5 minutes or so and nobody was hurt. the church is

able to still move forward with today's easter plans and services. but a member of the church staff says they don'h think that this was an accident. >> very, very clear that someone lit the church on fire. this was not. accidental. thankfully of church did not sistine massive structural didn't go up. it's there is exterior damage and we will be needing to repair that we secure that. the interior was largely untouched. >> supervisor hillary ronen posted about the mission district. she's the excuse me. she's representative for the mission district. she posted this on facebook saying in part, quote, i have been in contact with staff at rubio and saint john's along with police and fire. both incidents are being investigated as potential arson and are being taken extremely seriously. supervisor goes on to say she encourages anyone who has information about either of these fires to contact police soon as possible. well, a man

is dead after being ejected from a car in san francisco's know we valley neighborhood. the crash happened saturday morning on a residential street and this is video from the citizens app showing that car flipped over on its roof. san francisco fire crews say the driver was ejected after hitting 3 parked cars all within the area of the time. and in clipper streets, the man was taken to a nearby hospital where he eventually did pass away from his injuries. streets that were closed for several hours as investigators scanned the area for evidence in clean things up. as of this morning, those streets are open back up. well over in the east bay. a shelter-in-place has been lifted in san leandro after a police standoff happened saturday afternoon. san leandro police say it started just before 3 o'clock. that's when a man stole a truck and led police on a chase. we spoke with 2 men who say they saw all of it unfold. >> well, there is a red truck that crashed into the tree right there, knocked over the street sign. the tow truck

came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car. that's >> now after that, the man who police say was also carrying at least one knife. he locked himself in a different car, an officer at the scene told kron 4 that the man appeared to be having some type of a mental episode. eventually, negotiators were called out and spoke with him there on the scene before he was later taken to a nearby hospital. new this morning, a tnt alerting customers about a possible data breach impacting more than 7 and a half million people. now the company says this morning that customers pass codes may have been compromised. in a statement, a tnt says they are still investigating. but right now it appears that those affected our data from 2019 or earlier, they say it does not contain financial information and they're currently reaching out to current and former customers that may have been impacted by this breach. kron

4 is your local election headquarters and we're profiling the top challengers in san francisco's mayoral race this morning. we take a look at a candidate who once sat in the mayor's seat for 6 months. kron four's stephanie lynn sat down with mark farrell and how he plans to win his job back. >> over the past 5 years, i've seen our city crumbled candidate mark farrell, not mincing words over the problems he says are plaguing san francisco. san francisco used be the greatest place in the world to raise family. today is not the same. people do not feel safe in their own neighborhoods, let alone downtown the conditions of our streets have never been worse. and our local economy has suffered as a result. you know, we are now the of jokes across our country. and that should not be the case. the venture capitalist stepping back into the ring. >> with city politics where he previously served for 8 years first as district 2 supervisor, which includes the marina pacific heights, presidio heights and north of

the panhandle. and serving 6 months as mayor after the death of ed lee in 2017. a key point farrell says that sets him apart from the competition. we don't have time for someone to come learn on the job. we need someone's going hit the ground running on day one. if you are elected mayor, what do you plan to accomplish in your first 30 days? i do believe we need a new police chief. we have lost budget dollars and we can't recruit police officers. so we need a change in leadership promoting what he describes as a 0 tolerance policy on crime while promising to shield the city's public safety services from budget cuts. my budget plan. >> this year, include the addition of 250 new officers. we need to recruit additional officers transfer officers. we need to bring rep retired officers. >> we also need to flood our police academy with new classes. then we start to get to work on local economic issues. i fully believe we need. we need to use tax

incentives to bring employers back to the downtown core. my background includes over 20 years in the private sector. i know what it is to make payroll. i know what it is to see. companies do well and suffer. adding he'll clear all tent encampments in the city within a year as mayor before. >> i took out all over large tent encampments within 6 months. if elected mayor again, i will do it again. i asked, carol, if he's in favor of encampment sweeps, given the city's ongoing legal battles, i would characterize in the sweeps. we treat these individuals with respect with compassion. we offer them shelter and housing. but if they refused our offer services, we will not make it convenient for them. no one is getting better by sleeping in tents and night on the streets of san francisco. this has to stop. this challenge are coming out of the gates swinging. look, san francisco is suffering and what we don't have is any vision out of city hall right now. so is mayor london breed fit to be mayor in 2025? yes or no? no. mayor breed has a great personal story. no doubt about that.

that's taking bay area air mass and july sends it to the higher elevations and you get some cloud cover. this is coming from the east and normally an easterly flow is dry. not this go around. so that will help reduce some isolated little showers going on. and it's going to be most notable in some of the higher elevations, a little bit up in the north bay to get some credit there as well. we see a pop of winds. by the way, the comes off shore later on in this program right now. it's a little on shore, but here comes the flip by monday morning, right? nice little pocket up their county, napa county, a pop of some of those offshore winds. not long-lasting, not enough for advisory, but it will be kind of localized as the winds will be a little more intense there. s also opening up the skies a bit. once we get past sunday, little warming face for your monday into tuesday, up in the middle 70's here temporarily. and then we cool back down again for the latter portion of the week. looking for rain to return thursday night into friday. and it's a low that's going to come apart right in our backyard as well. 60 san francisco. we'll do open about 64 there. 67 for

simulating an on-campus evacuation of the wounded. all of it something assemblymember chris ward recognizes as a necessity to ensure students are prepared in an era when school shootings have become all too common. i have 2 kids in elementary school myself. we need to make sure that we're looking for security gaps are other ways to keep our community safe. he says, well, drills are rightfully focused on protecting students physically. he believes more attention must turn, turn sharing. the drills are not causing students harm emotionally. we should do a better job, really setting some parameters around active shooter drills so that they're not doing more harm than good. that's why he says he introduced assembly bill 18. 58 also known as the safe and prepared schools act. it will require school districts to set clear standards about how to conduct such drills and ensure the school community is made aware of the drill in advance something sacramento area student arianna williams said did not happen during to drill. she experienced at her high school. >> i had no clue if the lockdown was real or not. she spoke alongside war. but this

recent press conference supporting his bill, the swat team filled the halls. the lockdown cause hysteria. i remember some of my classmates crying hyperventilating panicking. and all i could think to do is text my mom and tell her i love her. even some of the have had some very horrible and that sometimes way more much earned them. a each i think should be exposed to >> scenarios where they see victims lying around and think pools of blood for a simulated activity like an active shooter drill. it's important to run through that exercise but do so in a way that doesn't induce trauma. and that's why he says a major part of his legislation calls on schools to notify all students and staff about on campus mental health resources. >> he notes several studies, including this one from the georgia institute of technology showed nationwide up to 42% of students and staff reported an increase in stress. >> anxiety and depression after school shooting trail took place. we need to be prepared to make sure that we can keep our students, our

looks like a good picture as well. so the breakdown here note some of that cloud cover breaking way to have some variable clouds into the afternoon. nice warm up happening inland in the mid 60's are going to build on that by decade. come in the next couple of days early next week. here's the big view from things you can see in the southland. they're getting hit by a lot of rain. instability. expect thunder showers out there. also in arizona from some of this subtropical moisture being funneled up a little bit here. while things dry up for us up in the north. lot of 50's on the board for right now holding on to some upper 40's like livermore and also palo alto in a bit. we'll take a look at that forecast but also extended into next week. but it looks like rain will review returning with yet another low coming out of the gulf of alaska. and that may mean some instability look out for michael. >> all right. thanks, dave. now to the ongoing of saga of sean diddy combs saturday, the new york post reported that the fbi is considering widening its probe of duty

after a lawsuit alleges that the rapper bragged about committing a 1999 shooting at a new york nightclub. and at the time they say even bribed witnesses and jurors after the fact newsnation's emily finn has the latest. >> over the past 30 years, mister combs behavior has demonstrated. she appears to have a propensity towards violence. the long list of allegations diddy is facing could be growing with law enforcement sources telling the new york post that the infamous 1999, new york city nightclub shooting involving h% diddy. >> j lo and other musicians could be reinvestigated in a lawsuit last month. producer rodney little rob jones accused it of sexually assaulting him on numerous occasions and forcing him to acquire workers and drugs. those allegations are similar to alleged crimes. the wrecker is accused of in the past, but the new details from the lawsuit focus on did these alleged behavior following the 1999 nightclub shooting. jones claims that diddy openly bragged about the shooting and that he bribed witnesses and

jurors to make sure he was acquitted. jones also said that did he use j lo as a quote, gun mule to smuggle the weapon into the nightclub. newsnation interview to tanya rubin who alleges she was shot that night back in 1999 and is even willing to undergo surgery to help with the trial better to tell you what happened then the person who got and that and that between my willing to have a doctor will move a part of the 9 millimeter bullet in my face so that they can use it as evidence if need be. so this time the did the saga began after homeland security raided the rapper's homes in los angeles and miami emptying safes, dismantling electronics and seizing security systems. there are allegations of trafficking, human trafficking, illegal ownership or possession, i should say of weapons as well as drugs. when you put weapons and drugs together in a mansion with multiple people, you're going to have the swat team deployed. there's no other way

to effect. >> and appropriate search warrant without those sorts of safeguards. brandon paul, who is described as a confidence and drug mule for diddy was arrested in miami. at the same time the raids are being conducted. one of diddy's attorneys released a statement calling the raids a witch hunt and descr bing them as a gross overuse of military-level force. adding there is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. this stuff is really serious. specific allegations i do have pull is that it's not just one person. >> it's several people that have not come forward. and i want to believe. >> that's the authorities have enough evidence to at least suspicion to justify what happened today. the raids happened one month after rodney jones filed his lawsuit and several months after 4 women including diddy's ex girlfriend, cassie came forward accusing him of running and epstein like

operation involving trafficking and blackmailing high-profile celebrities and politicians. >> well, back here in the bay area, asia sf is set to close its doors today on transgender day of visibility. it's a night club in san francisco where transcend transgender cabaret performances have been held for nearly 3 decades. the nightclub originally opened back in 1998. and quickly became a cultural landmark. the owner says they were unable to continue doing business because of the revenue loss experience during the pandemic. they say, although the physical space is closing the legacy there will live on through pop-up events. >> want to look at this is not the end, but really the beginning of a new opportunity where we can take what we do. be on the doors of 9th. and howard, to, you know, all across the city in the bay area and beyond. >> and the owner and workers there say that over the years a nightclub has been an important sanctuary for transgender people. so they

are excited for those pop-up events. well, happening tomorrow, california's minimum wage for fast-food workers will jump to $20 an hour, but not everyone is excited about this wage hike. several franchises have started cutting jobs to offset the rising wages, mcdonald's and chipotle are already singling signaling that prices are set to rise. and in response, the in to the increased labor costs. now to lou law makes california's minimum wage the highest in the entire country. easter is one of the busiest times of the year, especially for chocolate makers. despite chocolate prices beeing at a record high, a recent study shows that the price of chocolate rabbits has increased to 7% along with chocolate eggs, rising up to nearly 12%. both of the candies are averaging just at around $3 for the cost, which is higher than last year. bad weather conditions in west africa, which is a global supplier of cocoa, is the reason for the price hikes.
