name change. >> they think it will be confusing. we'll have more on that. i'm daria and i'm james. yeah. before we get to that, though, let's step outside. we've got a beautiful start to this tuesday morning where this from high above mount tam looking over the clouds. very nice. and it's going to be pretty warm today, john. yeah, for a lot of us today is going to be a warmer day than yesterday. san jose. i've got you up to 77 degrees this afternoon. so >> definitely getting on the warmer side of things. we do have the return of fog to the coastline, which to the adverse is actually going to keep the coast a little bit cooler than yesterday was this is your view from sutro tower right now. the reason because that fog is pushed back in. we are seeing the return of an onshore breeze that's carrying that cool coastal air right back into the bay. yesterday was an offshore wind so complete different direction. watch for a few low visibility spots, especially in the north bay. aside from that skies will clear out really nicely this afternoon. and we've got another day of sunshine and warmth just around the corner. 40's to 50's for our current temperatures later on today, we will be looking at a range of 60's at the coast to 70's

further inland right now. all right, john, thank you for that probably back to work and school and it shows the high was starting to pick up get busier. >> the team in a ride into the city this morning. no accidents hazards there. little bit slower along san mateo bridge about 22 minutes getting on and off. that bridge is going take a little extra time. richmond center fell bridge 13 minutes last hour about 15 and the golden gate bridge. 37 in the tolls. 23 minute ride that reaches get to that strike now. santa clara county nurses are on strike. they are. yeah, it's expected to last. >> a few days kron four's will tran been following. the story joins us now live from san jose with the latest and the picket lines which are supposed to be happening right now, right? well. >> and it is happening right now. they sho ed up at around 6.50, this morning in full force. this is one of 3 hospitals in santa clara county. and i'll step out of the way and you can clearly see now it's a public relations battle. they want the public to support them

against the county, which are their bosses right now instead of being inside, they are outside. this is at santa clara valley medical center. the other 2 hospitals we're talking o'connor. that's in san jose in the other one is saint louise regional in gilroy. not to mention 13 clinics at them all together. and we are talking 4,000 nurses, so emergency services are still available. non emergency services. they will probably be pushed back because they don't have the manpower takes to take care of all of your needs. you can still see people pulling into the hospital. but they only have 1000 replacement nurses, and that clearly does not cover 4,000 on the picket lines. this will happen all the way through early friday morning that nurses are looking for a pay raise not to mention, they say safer working conditions. the county

is offering a 10.5% pay raise. but the nurses say that is simply not enough, especially with what they are asked to do, which is why they broke off negotiations and they are hitting the picket lines. we will talk to them as the morning moves on. but again, this is not an depth in that strike where we have seen that weather on the picket line for as long as it takes for them to reach a contract. we do know with certainty it will be back at work early friday morning. and this is, by the way, costing the county reportedly millions of dollars to bring in the nurses not to mention rescheduling all of those appointments. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. we'll. >> 703, is the time. and developing this morning, traffic was blocked on northbound as barry and boulevard between spring lake drive in colby street was closed at about 8.30, last night. northbound lanes have since reopened. and we have gotten word yet on what caused that closure. but we're looking to find that out. meanwhile, in the north bay, 3 people now recovering after being shot in a safeway

parking lot in american canyon. it happened around 4.30, yesterday on west american canyon road there and broadway street police found 3 men suffering from gunshot wounds. they were all taken to a nearby hospital. the same gas station was taped off as american canyon police were on scene well into the evening. at least one car had what looked like a bullet hole through its front window. you can see it there on the right hand side to that bullet hole through the passenger side glass. at this 0, 2 men are being questioned in connection with the shooting, although no arrests have been made. we'll keep you updated on air and online as we learn more. >> time now 704. and some people mission district are speaking out about violence and work that's happening in their neighborhood. they are a woman, in fact, was attacked by what she believes were workers over the weekend. and it was all caught on video. proper sarah stinson has the story. >> i looked out my window and i 2 women beating up another one. and based on how the

women were dressed was clear to me that they were prostitutes. this woman speaking up after capturing video of a violent attack happening in front of her san francisco home on shotwell street saturday. but she has to stay anonymous. i see them grabbing a woman by the hair and throwing her to the ground. they're kicking her one point. a woman sitting on her and the woman gets offer and just kicks are very hard in the head. the woman who was beaten called 9-1-1. the concern neighbor came down to check on her. and apparently the fight began because she was in her car and the girls were looking inside of her car. and she said, what are you? why are you looking in my car? sfpd says officers found a woman matching the description of the attacker 3 blocks away. they arrested a 24 year-old woman from fairfield for aggravated assault shot will street. is a problem with work. but i'm not used to seeing it during the day. so that was surprising. i was horrified, but i wasn't surprise. this is something

where if you've been listening to the neighborhood you've been hearing about this weekly. >> trevor chandler lives in the neighborhood. he's running for supervisor in this district in says ever since barricades were put up on capp street to prevent work, the business has come to shot. well, street chandler says he believes fully staffing. the police department is the answer for says we actually have true penalties for the johns and the pimps that are doing this because we are so understaffed and our police department. we don't have the coverage to fully staff are human trafficking and trafficking divisions. >> our sara stinson reporting there is a petition going around to get license plate readers in the neighborhood hoping that that helps. we reached out also to supervisor hillary ronan's office. but we haven't heard back. >> 2, 16 year-olds in san francisco have been arrested for the shooting death of a 17 year-old in the tenderloin. the shooting happened last thursday at holiday plaza and that is where the 17 year-old

was found shot several times and he ended up dying from his injuries. >> in the east bay, the brentwood police department now is looking for ways that they can legally seize bicycles from teens who gather in groups drive recklessly throughout the city. so the police chief says officers are only able to issue citations as of now that these teenagers who are riding their bikes many times buzzing too close to cars, barely avoiding being hit. chief tim herbert says that he wants the city council to draft an ordinance that would let officers impound those bicycles. he noted that many of these teens are not from brentwood, but instead are from nearby oakley in antioch. he says they use social media to coordinate where they're going to meet up and do these rides. he's encouraging residents to continue making reports when they see bicyclists riding recklessly in the street. as we've reported, there were several sideshows in the east

bay over the weekend. and now one city mayor is speaking out in antioch. hundreds gathered blocking the intersection of lone tree way and golf course road and one point set off fireworks. we spoke with antioch mayor lamar thorpe who put it bluntly. he's telling people don't do this. >> regret coming here because we do have the technology. it's not just foot soldiers on the ground that we can send out. we have technology like drones. we captured a your license plate. we're going to show up at your house one day and we're going to tell your car and then we're going to find you. in most cases, it's going to be very upset. parents weren't happy with be with plea police chief. >> well, there were 2 other side shows in oakland and another one near hercules over the weekend. oakland recently passed a new ordinance toughening laws related to sideshows. there's also a plan to put in barriers on intersections where the sideshows are been routinely taking place. we did reach out to oakland police to see if there been any arrests but so far haven't heard back

this mays. voters in sonoma county are going to since november. if they want to restrict the size of animal farms. this after animal rights, environmentalist gathered more than 19,000 signatures to get this on the ballot. the initiative calls for a 3 year phase out of large scale concentrated animal feeding operations. the ordinance would affect 2 dozen cities. they make up about 2% of animal farms in the county. those, however, who oppose the measure say that actually it will serve to increase greenhouse gas emissions in the area and it will serve to raise prices because they say they'll be forced out of business and you have to import meat and dairy and eggs from other sources instead of locally grown. well, coming up after the break. >> wasn't and police have received in welcome to package at their front lobby while they're encouraging people who have grenades at home, believe in that home and let them. and

that we really start to take the turn. thursday starts dry. but by the middle of the day, some of those april showers are back. tears around noontime. you can see that wide coverage of rain for the bay area and snow up in the sierra nevada. this is likely going to stay with us into the evening thursday night and on into early friday before we generally see things calming down into the weekend. a few more showers possible sunday evening. so pretty active tale into the weekend. little bit active to the start of next week. coastal areas are going to be a bit cooler today in the low 60's that cool sea breeze that is pushing in fog in some spots. we're really moderate temperatures on the coast. where is pretty much everyone else is going to be right around the same if not warmer than yesterday. campbell and san jose all the way up to 77 degrees today. some of the warmest temperatures we fell so far this year. the at 72 while pittsburg, antioch in concord. up to 76, tomorrow's temperatures will begin. our cooling process as much as 10 degrees cooler than today. and

american airlines is relaxing its pet policy, making it cheaper to fly with your furry friends. that will be good news for some. we've got jane king live the nasdaq with that. good morning, jane. >> hi, james. good morning. it's american airlines relaxing the policy for passengers who travel with pets of snow letting passengers bring both a pet and a regular carry on bag or personal items into the cabin. so under this new policy, pet carriers are no longer be counted as carry on bags. there is still a fee and that is $150. pepe. we're getting rid of over-reliance on amazon signature. brown box is a key goal of the retail giant. according to amazon, about 11% of orders worldwide are sent in the original manufacturing packaging, including shipments from poor rock star bucks a macdonald's amazon says not all products were work without the brown boxes, but they will work to to transport those that will do so in more eco-friendly packaging. google was accused of misleading users about how chrome track them on the internet, even if

they were in incognito mode as part of the settlement, google has agreed to destroy billions of data points. a lawsuit alleged it collected during that time and samsung beat apple to regain the top spot as world's leading smartphone seller. the comeback is credited to the robust performance of the new ai power galaxy s 20 for smartphones. samsung the number one position to apple in september, but the galaxy 24, which features a range of ai functions, has gotten a positive response since its debut in january live from the nasdaq market site. i'm jane king back to james. all right, thank you very much, jane. >> time 18 and a big story for your money, the statewide minimum wage for most fast food workers in california is now 20 dollars an hour, which is good news for them. but for those who own businesses, they're wondering if they're going to be able to make it with the increase cars, vitality, bowls is affected by this new law. and here's what the owner has to say. >> well, definitely, you know, we're going to have to

increase prices to cover the cost. real possibilities cutting hours for my employees, which is that good. and also possibly layoffs for small business. you know, weise is minds of the family business. i have my wife, 2 sons. and basically, you know, there's a potential if things don't improve with the higher prices that customers stop coming in, that we will shut down and, you know, then basically people jobs. >> she might say, well, he's a franchise. he only owns 2 in san jose. why is he a not exempt from the law? and that's because they law applies to 60 or more franchise outlets in the country and you have to pay the minimum wage or 100 shayne restaurants like jack in the box when workers speaking us in spanish said, well, they're really happy about, you know, making more money in california. she says now she'll be able to pay the rent, maybe save college for her son.

20,000 jobs in just a three-month period. the city's controller's office reporting now 21,000 jobs were lost between december 2023. and this past february. citi says while a lot of these jobs are due to the end of seasonal employment during holidays, a lot of these jobs losses are also from layoffs in the tech industry, specifically. the report also noted that employment edged up to 3.8% and that hiring trends steadily continued to decline. >> a newly proposed state bill could give workers in california uninterrupted personal and family time. the bill introduced by san francisco assemblymember matt haney would give employees right to disconnect from e-mails, texts and calls after work hours. it requires all state employers to create a companywide plan to avoid contacting employees outside of work. and if they do, you know, calling at 8 o'clock or e-mail your tax to specter responded, you know, 8 o'clock

whatever tuesday night, then could face a fine. it does have some exceptions during emergencies or to discuss scheduling certain companies like those unusual hours are on call employees. they might also be exempt. >> alright, well, police in oakland are investigating a hit and run crash that killed a man yesterday morning. emergency crews found that person lying on the road near 98th and stanley and or street the victim's name not yet released. no word8on a suspect either. but police have arrested a suspect after a woman was found dead inside a home in san jose. investigators say they found her body sunday afternoon on mill pond drive. she apparently had signs of physical trauma. police found suspect inside of that house and arrested that person. >> it's 7.22. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, the biden administration is putting new restrictions on putting new restrictions on short-term health on 18.

and bart trains are back on schedule in the east bay after a person was struck by a train in berkeley was about for the afternoon yesterday that a person in a wheelchair. >> when on to the tracks at the richmond station just as a train was approaching berkeley, fire crews got out there pull that person off the track still alive. we don't know what their condition is. park police are investigating what happened. i was a richmond train coming at berkeley. here's something that was found in the garage of a home in pleasanton. and here's the problem. they they gave these grenades to the

police pleasanton resident. so found them and their garage. 3 grenades. and so they brought them in this box to the lobby. the police station now the bomb squad responded. they and everybody is fine. because this happen is just a reminder for police to tell you, you know, if you see something like a grenade boxing raj, an attic or storage area, don't touch it because who knows? you leave that to the professionals. you go to the police. they'll come back with a bomb squad and handle it for you. >> well, looks like road improvements in san francisco's presidio have made things safer for bicyclists. some of those changes include the installation of speed cushions and rumble. strips. they also narrowed the car lanes to provide more space for cyclists and install road signs to alert drivers. they need to share the road. according to the new new data out, 85% of cars are now traveling at slower speeds. a long-term improvement plan in the presidio begins in late summer. all right. we're going take a break here at 7.21. but

it's made for a beautiful morning with the skyline there in the distance. but unlike yesterday, which hadn't offshore winds today, is that cool onshore breeze, which is resulting in some of best specially foggy conditions through the carquinez and on up into portions of 101 in the north bay. once that fog burns off, it's nothing but sunshine. the rest of the day. temperatures in the 40's to 50's right now. hayward mountain view as well. san jose right at 50 degrees. dublin. you're sitting at a cool 44 degrees. don't forget the jackets just yet. although later on today won't be needing them for most spots with highs well into the 70's, right. all right, john, thank you for that also star on this tuesday. a lot of people, one back to work and school. >> drive times going up gradually about 20 minutes. they are amazed fremont street exit, 70 a bridge somewhere around. 25 to 30 were fluctuating. so no accidents on the bridge's been a little slow getting on the bridge. 80 in hayward. 12 minutes long. the richmond, sandra bridge tolls to 1, 1, and golden gate bridge. thank you. all of 30 minutes to make that ride.

arias back to you. thanks. a lot of 7.31. today, the san francisco board of supervisors hold a protest vote. >> they're not happy about the oakland airport wanting to change its name. yeah. >> to include san francisco, it might be confusing for some. we've got kron four's michael thomas. standby actually out at the airport now with why san francisco, oakland or san francisco, san francisco. good morning, michael. >> for now, i'm just going to say the east airport, i should say. but this new proposal really sending people into a panic. and if it does change, it would be san francisco bay, oakland international airport. but even the thought of that is already making san francisco city officials relief down the alarm and state know essentially scheduling meeting today to vote to officially oppose that. we've got video up on your screen so you can see why break it all this proposal came last week and that was when the port of oakland, which believes changing the name could bring more travelers to oakland airport.

adding that right now, most travelers who are around the world don't realize or know how close oakland is to san francisco. >> or even that it's in the bay area. they say after the announcement was made, san francisco supervisor aaron peskin posted to act woman known as twitter essentially saying intimidation or excuse excuse intended basically thing trying to name a temperate cisco. it's a form of flattery and that the idea isn't really neighborly. adding that sfo officials also don't really like the idea. and they did say that we've got details on your screens. you can see with the current name is over to what the new name would be. no sfo. officials say they've been using the name san francisco since the late 20's making it recognizable for travelers were trying to get to the city that if they added the name san francisco to oakland airport, will just be confusing for people trying to get through and to sfo over the years we have seen airlines cut an ad flights to oakland airport. so if that name change does officially happen, the big question would

be what travelers really know the difference. and back out here live. keep in mind, nothing has been made. official oakland commissioner still need to actually finalized that not meetings, not even set until the end of the month, but this morning we're hoping to talk with travelers see if they actually intentionally plan to come to oakland if they know the difference between the 2 and hopefully we catch them. people who are either international or even just from across the country. so darya james, it's a very you know, disagreement between the 2 sides of the bay right now. so hopefully we'll get some answers at some point. if this name change does go official and what these travelers have to say about it this morning. live this morning in oakland, michael thomas, back to to live in the studio. okay. thanks a lot. okay. 7.33. is the time more issues for united airlines. by the way, this time it was a flight heading. >> to sfo and the issue was a toilet overflow. let's see what happened after that happen. >> united airlines has been a hot topic on social media and in the news the last few months. but travel experts are

not seeing changes in trends when it comes to bookings. it seems that travelers still find convenience and price to be the most important passengers traveling on a united flight from frankfurt, germany, to sfo friday had a less than pleasant experience when one of the plane's toilets overflowed my deter me from passengers were accommodated in hotels in frankfurt and put on a different flight the next day i spoke with travel industry analyst henry harteveldt about the incident that happened on the united flight between frankfurt and francisco was embarrassing. we don't know the cause of it, whether it was caused >> a passenger who may put something down the toilet that shouldn't have gone down there or whether there was a problem with the lavatory that was not discovered before the aircraft left frankfurt, a united spokesperson said the incident involved a maintenance issue with one of the aircraft's lavatories. the latest in a series of mechanical and safety issues involving the airline. but it did not deter travelers like vincent wong for booking united for us. were not really.

>> committee need. >> airline, just whatever is easiest passes that our schedule. that seems to be the industry trend. according to heart of belt, he says that united ceo scott kirby send an e-mail to members of the airlines mileageplus. loyalty is program acknowledging the recent maintenance issues and promising an increase of training for maintenance workers. and yes, united has unfortunately had a series of problems and many of them it involves flights to or from san francisco. >> but i'm not hearing or seeing any data that's just people are quitting united north of. i think anyone should. harteveldt says the ntsb will not be investigating the united flight that had the toilet overflow since they only investigate the most serious incidents. the faa has said that it will be stepping up its oversight of united sending more inspectors to airports reporting at sfo. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> 7.35 and the a's and city of oakland meet today to talk about a lease extension for the coliseum. and if that doesn't work out well, then

the a's we'll have to go somewhere in the interim before their vegas ballpark is done and that interim could send them to sacramento. the current lease in oakland at the coliseum runs out after this season. so they're trying to figure out where they're going to play. in the meantime, the former president of the miami marlins, david samson says that sacramento could be a front runner for the a's if it doesn't work out a stay at the coliseum. the could boil down to money. >> the biggest issue that i see face in sacramento is that wherever oakland plays there has to be union approval. if it's outside of oakland and the question owners will ask is how much money are we going to be giving to the a's during this quote, unquoter interim period? >> if the a's do then they could end up playing at sutter health park. sampson says that minor league park woods needs a major upgrades for the players, but it could be done. sacramento's mayor had this to it's important for me to express my sincere hope that the a's remain in oakland.

i've been consistent and buy support for this from the very beginning. however, the mayor goes on to say, i believe sacramento has so much to offer and would be a fantastic temporary landing spot for the a's. >> trial involving tesla is set to begin next week in a case where a 2 year-old toddler was behind the wheel. a south bay woman filed a lawsuit. she was 8 months pregnant at the time of the crash in 2018. she says her tesla was parked in the driveway when her son crawled into the driver seat and somehow turn the car on. she says he then crashed into their garage, pinning her to the garage wall. a neighbor was able to backed the car up and freer. she went to the hospital with severe injuries. a jury will determine now tesla is to blame in any way for that crash. >> dozens of rideshare drivers are asking for higher pay and better working conditions and they rallied outside the san francisco headquarters of uber and lyft yesterday. they say that they're not paid enough. the fees are too high and there are dangerous working
