>> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news >> thanks for waking up with us. we've got several local stories that we're working on, including what's going on in santa clara county. >> with nurses on strike this morning. yeah, they're also following the latest 2 out of san francisco. a woman attacked by what was believed to be. workers will tell you what people say needs to happen to make things safer. and what of the oakland airport had san francisco in the name? would that be confusing? san francisco, thanks. so we'll talk more about the new name proposition. i'm daria and i'm james. we'll get to that in a minute. but we do want to take a look outside here. we have a lovely view of the embarcadero and the bay and all the blue skies going to be warm today, john. yet today, another nice and warm one yesterday. we enjoyed at least hopefully got a chance to step outside and enjoy some of that nice weather for a little bit. and
8:01 am
today very much so the same for a lot of our inland areas, especially now at the coast. we do have a bit of a sea breeze and that's marked the return of some fog into the bay area. you can see a little bit of that around san francisco for a lot of us. it's already burning off. so not much of a thing for most areas. we're seeing that sea breeze pushing some fog through the car teen as though out into the delta and in portions of the north bay. so watch your travel further north, especially now a lot of us further inland into the south already under that sunshine. and that's the way we'll stay. temperatures will rise really quickly under the sunny skies with 40's to 50's being your current cool temperatures. but it's quickly to transition to some 60's and 70's later on lot like yesterday was i'll get some more of these details on a nice, warm day today and the eventual return of rainfall still ahead, rain. right, john, thank you for that. will take advantage of the dry conditions we have today, although traffic is busy, certainly will be much busier if things are wet. 25 arrive.
8:02 am
everybody heading into the city this morning. we got up to 30 minutes there. >> and we're back down also on the senate to resume busy in the last hour. now back down to 19 minutes. get up to 30 there as well. richmond center fell bridge around 17. that's fairly busy for this hour. and a 38 minute ride along the golden gate bridge. many want to one of the north bay. it's a little bit slower area. james, back to you. >> thanks. a lot do won and happening now, santa clara county nurses are on strike and it's expected to last at least 3 days. kron four's will tran following it all in san jose. good morning. well, >> it's going on right now. james. thousands of them instead of being in sight. they are outside right in front. they're at multiple locations. this one just happens to be the santa clara valley medical center. they're also in front of 2 other hospitals, not to mention a couple of other clinics throughout santa clara county. they are looking for a new contract. they're looking for a substantial pay raise. and right now the contract. is not

what they are looking for us. as far as the offer being given by the county. here's what you need to know. obviously, the nurses are in front. they have replaced replacement nurses inside, but only about 1000 of them that can't make up for the 4,000 nurses who are on strike for the next 3 days at valley medical center, saint louise regional in gilroy as well as o'connor in san jose. so emergency services still will be available to you. but non emergency services could be pushed back. so don't be surprised if you have an appointment and the hospital reaches out to you. you know, i got a chance to talk to the vice president for the nurses. she says, yes, it is about the money, but it's also about the safety of fellow nurses, as well as the patients. the last mediators proposal wasn't voted down by the membership because of the money. it was voted down because the county wants to be able to send us to

different hospitals. and we believe that's unsafe for nurses and unsafe for our patients. >> it's all because the county failed to integrate the 3 hospitals together. and because of this failure to integrate, each of those hospitals have different policies and procedures. >> so it's basically like if you work for the oakland police department and when they tell you you have to go down to san jose to work with their police department and the next day you work at. >> the san francisco police department, they all have their different policies and you're not used to it and it could be dangerous. she says, especially during emergencies, which is why she says they are fighting to stay at one particular hospital. obviously also fighting for money. right now they're looking for about a 15% pay raise over 3 years to inflation costs rising. inflation. right now, the county is offering about 10.5% over 3 years. we will try to
8:05 am
get reaction from the county, but you can clearly see the nurses are in front. the good news is if you are a patient and you obviously are caught in the middle of all this, we do know this is not indefinite. it's 3 days and the nurses will belback on the job early friday morning. probably still fighting for a new contract is it seems both sides are not ready to get back to the bargaining table. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. we'll know kate. >> well, it 84 in the north bay, 3 people now recovering after being shot in a safeway parking lot in american canyon. happened about 4.30 yesterday afternoon. this was west american canyon road and broadway street. that's where police found 3 men suffering from gunshot wounds all taken to a nearby hospital and that safeway gas station was taped off as police there on scene. well into the evening investigating at least one car looked like it had what appeared to be a bullet holes through one of the front windows. there at this 0, 2, men are being questioned in connection with what happened. no arrests have been officially made just yet.
