unfortunately, when a lot of us are doing are getting out and about on the roads, this is what we got out there this morning at the golden gate bridge. some very wet conditions currently and looking outside at half moon bay at the coastline. a lot of rainfall pushing up there as well. let's get a look at the radar right now. those yellow areas are indicating where it's pretty soaked at this moment. and that includes san francisco. the richmond, sandra fell bridge bay bridge as well as up into the east bay hills. the lay how on up through napa. also very much snow coming down for you. a pretty wet from santa rosa down through center fell on 101, and also can't ignore the south bay. we are seeing a little bit of a lull in san jose, but you got plenty of energy sitting to the west of you. that is about to be pushing your direction. upslope onto diablo is east of san jose. resulted in a lot of snowfall already up on mount hamilton around the lick observatory. we'll continue to see that snow or rain and snow for that matter off and on throughout the day. but the heaviest of it is indeed during your morning commute

this morning. expect a little bit of sunshine into the afternoon, interspersed by times where we could even see a thunderstorm building in temperatures are a whole lot cooler than they had been were in the 40's to 50's right now. oakland and alameda sitting at 50 degrees currently calistoga kelsey bill all the way down in the 30's with temperatures that cold. it's easy to see why this is such a wintry system. mid 50's this afternoon. a lot cooler than earlier this week. i'm continuing to break down what we're seeing on towards the weekend in your full forecast over to you, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. that's right. lots of wet roads, which means we're going to see some delays. if you're just waking up, you may want to start moving to give yourself some extra time. taking a look right now at traffic tracker for you can see green, but also some small pockets of yellow and orange. we do have the sig alert. there was a traffic collision. it's currently being cleaned up. we're seeing some residual delays on 101, it's on the northbound lanes just before you get to holly. so you may want to just give yourself extra time. the right lanes are currently closed but set to open up soon. taking a look at some drive times right now

for those of you heading from crockett to the maze. 26 minute commute. walnut creek to 5, 80 13 minute commute. it's a 15 minute commute from castro valley to the maison stanley and or to the maze 13 minute commute. so not too bad. taking a live look. once you get to that may as well to 20 minute commute. it's kind of ntop and go traffic. you can see those wet roads and of course, as metering lights are on. we'll take a look over at the san mateo bridge. you can see it is an 18 minute commute. things are running smoothly. there. the roads don't look as wet. but lastly, we'll take a look at the richmond. sandra fell bridge 15 minute commute over that. you can really see just how what those roads on that scene us. >> all right, michael, thank you for that. let's continue our team coverage. yeah, all that wet weather out there that we're tracking jonathan talking about. that's only going to get worse. you just saw the driving conditions are with michael's or slick all over the place. numbers will trend lines and refill as the rain makes its way to the bay will skepta could on back coming down. they will morning.

raining. your windshield wipers will be going. give yourself an extra. maybe 5 to 10 minutes for your commute at this time. even more so as the morning stacks but it is raining at this time and i think it's going to be an all-day event, which is why i'm good to go so many people. good news that i'm here to amuse. you look at this. i want to quickly show you. i can't wait for it to stop raining so i can start wearing my shoes again because right now i just have my flip-flops. >> and nobody wants reform. thank you. we'll take you. apps are ready for the rain. okay. so nurses across the bay area are now demanding better working conditions. they nurses rally to san francisco general hospital. >> for better staffing. they were there out at laguna honda hospital. you can see him on the picket line. this video was sent to us from the union and they say there's a shortage of nurses and that's putting patient care at risk. >> the nurses are accusing the hospital of not posting the accurate number of job vacancies that need to be

filled. they also have submitted 1400 complaints about missed a meal breaks and unsafe working conditions. >> meantime, in santa clara county got nearly 4,000 nurses to the picket lines for day 2 of their 3 day strike. asking for higher pay. so this is video and the nurses are striking at saint louise regional hospital yesterday. the county currently offering a 10 and a half percent pay increase over the next 3 years. the nurses are asking for 15%. county officials say nurses from across the country they've been brought in to cover for those that are on strike, which has been pretty expensive. >> over 20 million dollars to bring in staef from agency to support patient care. and we have successfully oriented over 1000 individuals to help provide that care. >> tomorrow will be day 3 for nurses on strike in santa clara county. and they're going to be out there hoping it pushes negotiations for county. officials say the union has not responded to

requests schedule more bargaining sessions. >> 706, is the time and take a close look at the man you see here in this video. campbell, police say he broke into a woman's apartment on apricot avenue last friday evening. the victim says she woke up to find him in her home. that's when he quickly ran off. anybody who recognizes this man is asked to call campbell police. now to an update of a story we first brought you on the kron. 4 morning news. police have arrested a teenager now who they say was responsible for a deadly crash in san jose. it happened yesterday morning near the intersection of neiman boulevard and elkins way. police say the teen was driving the black car that you see there in the video and crashed into another car, killing that driver. spoke to neighbors who say this isn't the first time there's been an accident there on that street. >> loud, loud vehicle me up. and i do want to come out what i did. i hope this one. they will push some traffic light because all we accident. >> well, the teen is now in custody. no word if he was

under the influence at the time of the crash. that part of the investigation is still ongoing. >> well, the city of antioch, they're taking new measures to stop the dangerous driving stunts from happening. the mayor says a new electric is going to be going up right at the marina. the city council voted on tuesday to implement the new gate. it's going to close at night stopping cars. they're trying partake in sideshows in their tracks. so this was back in august when a car involved a sideshow flipped into the water off of any oxbow docks. just this past weekend, more than 200 people showed up at a sideshow at a lone tree way in golf course. drive. the mayor says recent police department scandals have hurt the city's efforts to stop sideshows. but those days are now in the rearview mirror. >> when the police that levels were impacted by the fbi investigation. we lost out there isn't. so that certainly had that it felt like that. we just open the games to sideshows here, but were quickly stepping up. we've got 6 officers in the academy 12 that will be entering the academy made our proactive efforts are are much more

important having police officers dedicated finding. >> and shutting down social and to organized that have been most affected. >> well, during the most recent sideshows police drones did capture license plates of cars involved. mayor hernandez, stuart says the city is going to following up seeking until those cars and find the drivers. >> well, frustration mounting for small business owners in oakland's fruitvale district. now this comes after several shops in the public market. >> burglarized this week kron four's dan thorn spoke to those business owners and finds out what they want done. >> at least for small businesses in oakland's fruitvale public market hit by burglars this week. oakland police say 2 unknown intruders ransacked offices and stole cash and computers from a bakery jewelry store, ice cream shop and electronics repair service. it's super frustrating to see these these folks. you know. >> working every day. the frustration they have. and to

have something like this happen. it's really disheartening. >> business owner dominic prado says his restaurant tacos, el al ballet was spared. but the public market is a tight-knit community and crimes like these are a shared pain. they deserve better. we deserve better. >> many of these business owners have been there for over. 25 years. the nonprofit unity council owns the public market. >> they say despite investing more than a million dollars in security, it has not been enough. we're asking for local regional and federal support so that we can be whole again. prado argues the unity council could also be doing more to help the public markets. merchants. he says the organization has failed to make good on improving safety. we've asked what cameras us for a number of things. last yeaa we were faced with job. >> there was a lot of shootings in the area. both sides have clashed over the response to crime at the market. but they also agree that outside help is needed to

protect these businesses, the support they get also help preserve the neighborhoods. culture i can. the prime will always be here. i think we're we're never going to be out out. red from crying. but i think with that the city to sizable commitment to investing in his neighborhood. well, those growers, dan thorn reporting. >> oakland police say they have not made arrest in tuesday morning's burglaries. asking anybody with any information to give them a call. take a look at this. the car almost crashed into a taco shop in the mission now yesterday afternoon. and police say this might be the result of road rage car damaged a pillar i outside of the business on 18th and valencia. this is the driver left the scene and they later found the car involved, bennett 14th and that homeless streets. >> well, 2 eastbound lanes of the richmond center fell bridge now reopened. as you may know, this week, starting in the evenings at 07:00pm until 05:00am 2 lanes are going to be closed for repairs. the project will likely continue until saturday morning. caltrans says the exact duration of that work.

now. >> completely blanketing the bay. this is a live look at the san mateo highway. 101, hillsdale boulevard to the peninsula, obviously getting its fair share of the rain this morning. and we're also seeing a 2 as we bring it back here in the studio out at sfo, which is behind us right now. and i'll tell you, there is. 115 flights at the airport. i just checked with the faa. there's 2 hour, 15 minute ground delay for all inbound flights, airport because of the winds that they're experiencing right you've got a flight that's coming in. or if you've got a flight that's leaving in the plane is still somewhere else. everything's getting messed up at the airport. you're going want to definitely check so the winds rains. i know it's get a little murky out there on the road on. how long is it supposed to stick around? yeah, the morning hours as where we're seeing the heaviest and most widespread of it, we are going to be seeing it pretty heavy over the next hour or 2. >> after that, though, we'll start to see some intermittent clearing. it's still going to be stormy at times this afternoon, but at least we'll have those windows that hopefully we can catch up on some of those flights that i

know are getting setback right now in this mess that we're seeing. this is all the rainfall that's pushing into the east bay hills right now. and you can indeed see a lot of coverage up and down the peninsula into the north bay across our bridges and now into the east bay shoreline. as you know, those areas of yellow and orange. those are your heavier pockets of rain fall right over bridges. in some cases they're in the santa cruz mountains in the blue indicating snowfall at fairly low elevations. we really soundings later on today to get levels in the atmosphere of what it's exactly looking like right above us. we could very well see some record cold conditions right above the bay area as this low is plunging in some really cold air from the gulf of alaska. you're also seeing some very snowy conditions picking up now in the sierra. there's that low in. it's going to make its way directly overhead as we move our way into the evening hours tonight. so right now it's the cold front. low pushes its way over head tonight. keeps us unsettled. that cold front

comes along with that rush of rain that we're seeing across the bay area, those stronger winds as well. and this will continue over the next couple of hours. unfortunately, right in the middle of the busiest time of day for drivers, you are also seeing some snow just south of the altamont pass to east of san jose. so as above santa rosa, we will see a chance of thunderstorms into the late morning and early afternoon, interspersed by times of sunshine. so keep a close eye on the radar will keep you updated all day long here on kron about what exactly that development occurs into the evening tonight. we'll continue to see those isolated areas of rain and snow up in the mountains above the bay area. starting to dry out by tomorrow morning. tomorrow should actually be a pretty alright morning commute. middle of the day. tomorrow, some thunderstorm building could result in some more isolated heavy showers early to mid-afternoon. before we clear and dry out friday night and then stay dry into saturday in daytime hours of sunday. rainfall amounts over the next couple of days, anywhere between a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of

rain and for the sierra winter weather advisory is in effect all the way through 11:00pm tomorrow night. we have multiple feet of snowfall at the crest of the sierra. few inches of snowfall in our bay area if you are heading up to tahoe, they're taking i-80 or highway 50. do you anticipate chain controls gusty winds and travel delays and very likely as you get up there to try to enjoy some of that spring snow temperatures in the mid 50's for daytime highs today. looking ahead at the next 7 days. huge changes in the works. we've obviously cool down a lot since earlier this week and word bench ali going to warm back up after 3 days in the 50's. we will see temps climbing already near 70 degrees for the eclipse on monday in near 80 by wednesday of this next week. michael. thanks, john. and good morning, everyone. as you heard will tran say earlier, you do want to give yourself extra time because those roads are definitely slick and very wet, which means we're going to see delays. >> taking a look right now at traffic tracker for lots of green, which means everything

is good. but those yellow and those oranges means we're seeing some delays. taking a look over at the south bay right now. you can see it's a 38 minute commute from san jose to menlo park the step of the way you see this yellow and red right here. that's because there was a single earlier this morning. and we've got details right now on your screen. so they are cleaning it up. but the right lanes have been closed off for the last hour or so. chp says it should be cleared up within the 2025. minutes or so. but we're still working on that. and it's right before you get to holly street around the san carlos area, taking some drive time looks over in the south bay as well. 13 minute commute from san jose over to cupertino, which is great. timing drive times right now. castro valley, oakland to oakland, 60 minutes. stanley under to oakland 60 minutes. it's well, san jose to cupertino. a 13 minute commute right now taking a look over the antioch area, antioch to concord. it is only a 20 minute commute and right here if i move out the way, right, so you can see it's normally orange and yellow. they're taking a look at westbound 80 crockett to the maze, a 27

minute commute. but i do want to keep you all informed right around here. there was just a traffic collision that i got aware of before i came on air. we're keeping an eye on it. hopefully it can actually be cleared up soon. but it's right on 80 as you're heading over towards the bridge. but taking a look at the bay bridge right now, a 20 minute commute from the maze over to fremont street which looks good. but you can see a live look at those wet roads and those metering lights are on. so lots of stop and go traffic. so pack your patience this morning. lastly, for some of our inland viewers, livermore to dublin, 14 minute commute, dublin to fremont 17 minute commute. san leandro to milpitas a 28 minute commute in milpitas to sunnyvale. it's only a seven-minute commute. we would like to see those numbers in green the right now they're in yellow. so we'll keep an eye on the roads this morning. brennan, james, we'll send it back to you. all right. okay. 7.19, is the time it for your money. this morning, rare wines and whiskeys are becoming legitimate investments. >> and where does california rank when it comes to financial literacy? let's find

7.30, is that i'm tracking the rain tracking wind all at happening right now. it's been a perfect mixture morning. certainly want to take a time out there. >> john, i'm wondering, is this going to be into the late evening hours as well for us. so mostly a morning event will still see stormy weather at times during the rest of the day. but this is the cold front that's pushing through right now. it's really pushing up those winds and this heavy line of showers that is making its way through, unfortunately placed right in the middle of the morning commute where we're sitting down in the south bay right now, we've seen some increasing shower activity. currently san jose and this view is look at a little darker than it did earlier this morning. you can see those areas of yellow and orange on the map that you're heavy rainfall that's now making its way across the east bay hills right here. and it is causing quite a wallop of rainfall right along 80 stretching from toledo, richmond, down through berkeley and emeryville. well,

if you head down 6.80, horror 5.80, in the east bay, you're also looking at some definitely heavy rain in the spots right here. so definitely a morning that is going to be bringing a slow commute, which michael keep you updated on further south in the bay. both the san mateo and dumbarton bridges are looking at rainfall actively san jose, a little quieter by comparison. but when you head to the hills above san jose, that's where you're seeing some snowfall this morning. it's not just a rainy system. this is a cold one, too, and resulting in some snow at surprisingly low elevations for april. futurecast shows the continued line of this heavy rainfall through the morning commute. again, unfortunate timing that the very heaviest and most widespread of rain has to be. while we're all getting out there, we'll still see pockets of rain into the afternoon. interspersed by times of sunshine and drying watch for isolated thunderstorm development has all this happens. temperatures in the 40's right now for most areas. we've got that cold front pushing through and temperatures have actually fallen for quite a few spots.

calistoga sitting at 39 degrees right now. easy to see why you have snow at such a low elevations. there's your view from the east bay hills as that rain is falling. temperatures in the 50's for very warmest at any point today, even with some peeks of sunshine later on. i know michael is keeping us updated on the latest. a lot going on out there right now. right? >> a lot of wet roads. there we go. there's my voice. take a look right now. this is this is near whipple's avenue over in the redwood city to step out. the ways you can see earlier this morning there was sig alert put out. so they're currently cleaning it up. but there was a traffic collision. the right lanes are currently closed. so if you're heading up the peninsula, just keep that in mind. and again, this is a live look. we want to get back over to the traffic tracker for maps. you can see lots of green, but also still lots of yellow and lots of red taking a look over towards the bay bridge in the east bay right now, westbound lanes on 80 before you get to the actual tolls. there's been an accident there. they're working to clear that up. so

sprinkles. sanon summer home on the early morning of august. 29th frankel's fiancee at the time now wife called 9-1-1. but when officers arrived, the situation escalated. what this neighborhood go later learned he was suffering from a grand mal seizure on wednesday, frankel filed a lawsuit against the central marin police authority. his lawyer, david feel he's still struggling with the physical issues and still struggling. >> the emotional issues from yet to shoulder surgeries. so he's recovering from those which occurred over last 2 years. so the lawsuit alleges excessive force, false arrest and officers conspiring to fabricate charges. one of the responding officers can be heard giving a statement on police body camera video feel right. >> it's all kind happened you

the south bay heading up towards the city, there was a traffic collision earlier this morning. things are starting to clear up, but there's still a lot of residual delays and you can see the right lanes on northbound. 101 have been closed off. this is in the redwood city area just south of holly around with full. so keep that in mind as you're heading out this morning and sticking with the south bay. take a look. you can see 101 all the way up, lots of green, but then a lot of large pockets of that red and yellow. and that's for both ways. san jose to menlo park. a 55 minute commute. keep in mind at 5 o'clock this morning that was around a 22 minute commute or so. sticking in the south bay, san jose to cupertino. 24 minutes. and of course, you see that red and you see that yellow there. but giving those in the east bay some drive times right now, antioch to concord. 21 minutes things look good in that area. when ce take a look at drive times from crockett to the maze. 31 minutes. walnut creek to 5, 80. 21 minutes. castro valley to the means. 21 minutes. san leandro to the maze. also, 29 minutes now

there now, as you're waking up to get the morning commute started, we are seeing our most widespread of rainfall right in the middle of this drive to work this morning placement, mother nature, not the best for us. we are seeing some of the heaviest of rainfall right from concord, through walnut creek, right along 6.80, right now and along highway 24 between walnut creek in berkeley. it's also coming down really heavy there. watch for some wet spots where there could be standing water on roadways as you make your way down. 5.80, in the east bay also coming up, pretty good around the oakland hills. notice those areas of blue and purple right atop of mount tam mount diablo, mount hamilton, mount saint helene in the north bay. that's low elevation snow fall. this is exceptionally low snow considering what time of year we're talking. this could be record breaking cold for this time of april for upper elevations. as far as that cold goes. so overall very much, though, wet morning, something to watch out. there's you're getting outside is going to be slick roads up highway 17 and then

also look at south bay right now, heavy rain encroaching on san jose building to the east. so san jose, you're just now starting to see rain picking up. you're likely to see even more of it moving in over the next few minutes here. so definitely an active morning and we stay active throughout the course of the morning. as for future cast, you see this line of showers that isp pushing through the bay area as we speak. this is the cold front that is making its way through right now. it's also coming along with the push of gusty winds and all this, of course, as you are making your morning drive by the time that we reach 10:00am, you start to see the shower activity pushing further inland pockets of rain and thunderstorm activity here around 11:00am for portions of marin and sonoma counties. after that towards noon, still some pockets of heavy rain, but also some clearing going on intermittently again towards 01:00pm there over san francisco in livermore chance of thunderstorm development. so you get the idea of where we go into the afternoon. it is going to be a lot more spotty. the most widespread of
