>> alright fired up now at 5. a win for the giants in their home opener today. 10's of thousands of fans fill the stands at oracle park. thanks for joining us tonight on kron. 4 news at 5. i'm grant lotus and i'm noelle bellow. crowds of people piled into the stadium today excited to see their team. >> at home, we have team coverage tonight of the big win kron four's jacmel mud was at the game earlier today to get some reaction from some eager fans. yeah, eager for good reason. getting baseball started. it's the way they won, though. and sports reporter aaron wilson joins us now live with the highlights. aaron high drama. >> great. you high drama. but high excitement as you kind of just mentioned with the way that the giants were able to pull out the win today. now, obviously, giants fans did pile in to oracle park today
5:02 pm
and a beautiful day to do it. of course, outage on those crazy berzon of it. but we'll talk about that a little bit later. let's talk about the giants and what they did right there. obviously done by mail bin mentioned that they got off to a slow start, but it was the last play of the game that really sealed the deal for the giants in this one to send a home crowd back home. happy after being able to see john cooley make his home debut after being able to see bob melvin manager, his team now his new team with the giants over his former team with the san diego padres, but also see that i restaurant was able to hit game, winning, shot out there that brought at a home in order to win this game. 3 to i mean, it was a very exciting way to see it like i mentioned belmont and belmont. bob melvin rather say that it was a slo start and they did. they trail just about the entire game. pretty much they got on the board. first. the padres did was and then after that. giants they were able to score. but then the padres able get 2 to one is how the game stood for a very long down at the bottom of the 9th. like i mentioned,
5:03 pm
it was time restaurant. hit that ball melvin said he was hoping just stated and it did and it caused it happen to be able to come across home plate. they get this win. listen to bob melvin after he talked about his team win. this one closed. >> yeah. take the right time to get going. so the little bit aggressive here recently. you know, when you don't get should try to do a little too much. he can cover a lot of the plate but hasn't been swinging good pitches. got a good pitch to hit their enrollment. so you know, i just stay with you thinking good things. you know, you always have a good feelings plage. >> and when you talk about picking it up at the right time, i talked to a time right after the game. and i asked myself, just explain to me, you know how you feel after that winning play that you made to close this one out. he said, you know, i was just in the right place at the right time had the opportunity to make a hit. i did make that hit and we were able to get the win in front of a home crowd. and that's exactly what they did today. now, of course, we'll be back out here against the padres again here
5:04 pm
at home. and i don't know that will be as full of the crowd as it was today because they really showed out. and of course, bob melvin was hoping that they could show out on the field, of course, for it, the fans and they did that. they sent him home on a walk off like you say, great, dramatic fashion when today for the giants over the san diego padres. the final score was 3 to 2. know we talk about those birds. then on the left and a little bit underwhelmed. usually they're like attacking oracle park at this point after the game to get all the remnants of food left in the stands. they're selling the short right now. so i'm not so impressed by the birds. don't know what's going on with the bay. but today here at the park has been a great day. but sadly, all the wind, they probably blew the birds somewhere else because it is windy out there and then also for the birds. it's like their spring training. they're still trying to get back in the group. >> i think they are their time. they they they probably laid it on thick or draft wade, rather. you know, when the season was done and now they're trying to get get their wings back under them,
5:05 pm
right. and find a way to, you know, sift through the stands for some leftover chicken tenders and tie not because those are no longer on the menu here, which was very disappointing for me. sounding check what they're searching for up there, but words. we've got the today. so imagine. and maginnis tickets. >> you need to start an instagram account just for it would be sold. love you seriously. i may need your help with it, but i angry birds are hungry. birds. >> birds in on tv. i mean, you can't make this stuff thank sir >> we do also have jack moment. he's one of our newest report. he is our newest reporter. he's been talking to fans all day out for before the giants game. joining us live. are a part of what's going on.
5:06 pm
>> i that's right. well, as you can see behind me, that's a pretty much clearing out after giants 3. but before hours before the game started and were pouring into the scene refreshing sight to see. to many of us are not having fans come here. this is, of course, home game there and fans are really eager to get that win after the did lose the dodgers back down los angeles betting. that is word that giants will be rewarded with their let's take a listen to some of >> giants. fans have had to wait 2 series to welcome in this sea of of the day. get getting tickets and checking in the field today was a hopeful one for the giants home opener against the padres. get the win. today. we look at the wind padres. we're going fans hungry for a rebound after getting swept in los angeles due to good against the dodgers. pick right back up.
5:07 pm
>> hopeful for the day hopeful for the world absolutely 100 bucks on >> karen moreland and tom woods lifelong our day. they're going all the way today. home opener don't lose other fans old. >> and young i the giants going to best team and even some sibling rivalry. but kids have a message for the giant. want to say that. johnson there >> much predicting the future there. they will obviously have a very recalling that might give us now fans tell me
5:08 pm
that they hope that this is now attract moment. kron 4 all right, jack. >> also the yeah. welcome jacket. kids their love your story and we'll be seeing a lot of jack we always see a lot of lore. it's and that where we head next. talked about the wind. >> at the game, crossing the bridges today. it was how >> and there's also just a lot of traffic out in front of that stadium. i was called in. >> yeah, you almost can see any of that would be opening day crowd. boy, just a ton of people out there enjoying the baseball game today turned out to be a great day to see great start to the season for the giants here. nice opening day when the weather cooperating. yeah, the winds have been kicking up and now we're talking about the possibility of some thunderstorms. in fact, you see the winds kind of shaking the camera around there in the breeze outside right now, looking toward the golden gate bridge. check out the temperatures just kind of all over the map right now.
5:09 pm
you're at 60 degrees in santa rosa. you're only 49 in vallejo. 48 in 50 in concord. and you know, for those cool temperatures are at those are right now. and ernie, some thunderstorms. and so they're getting some strong downdraft underneath those thunderstorms to bring those cold temperatures. in fact, a pretty active afternoon now as that area of low pressure that's been spinning around, bring us rain last couple of days is not done with those just yet. it is still wrapping around. bring in more moisture on through. we're going to see some of those lightning strikes popping up there in the east bay and sliding further south. now, those will continue here over the next couple of hours. but i think as we head through the night tonight, that will all go away as the sun begins to set, we've got much better weather on the way. we'll talk more about that coming up and a few minutes. thank you, larry. it's new at 5, a man was shot and killed in broad daylight in san francisco's mission today. police say it happened about one 30 this afternoon. >> near the intersection of mission and 20th citizen app. video shows the scene here. lot of police police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. no arrests have been

made and investigation is ongoing. >> 2 lawsuits have been filed against the owners of the half moon bay, mushroom farms or 7 people were killed and one person was hurt last year. 24 year-old pedro perez was shot 5 times but survived the mass shooting back in january of 2023. his older brother jose was killed. pedro in jose's family have now filed suits against california. terra gardens and its owners accusing them of failing to take reasonable steps to protect their tenants from violent acts. the lawsuit alleges the accused shooter chanley zhao had a documented history of violence. and that the farm did little to ensure worker safety outside of court. pedro perez said he's still in disbelief and upset over losing his brother. >> got i i came here for a better life to helping family. and they told me that there were jobs here at this farm.
5:11 pm
we would come together and we would go to store. we were inseparable. always thinking about him. always thinking about him. and i just. >> don't understand. how this happened. >> not only did california terror gardens violate those rights by providing squalid living conditions for the farm workers that they violated rights by not providing a place where their tenants felt safe. in california landlords all the way more temperate duty to protect their tenants for the criminal acts of people who come out of the property. and california. terra guards did nothing to protect, came through or his brother or the other victims of that shooting. >> now, jose perez does leave behind a wife and 4 children in mexico. the suspect has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. joust next court appearance is scheduled for later on this month. san jose has launched a

pilot program that uses artificial intelligence to >> detect homeless encampment. city officials say the technology is used on city vehicles to better provide essential services for folks in need. but homeless advocates worry this will be used to push homeless residents out. we spoke to san jose's mayor about how the new technology will work. >> and we have one car. we've got outfitted with a half dozen cameras were just beginning to test this one of the things we found we actually didn't set out initially to do this. we're really focused on potholes and graffiti to start. is that these cameras are pretty effective at identifying when people are living in vehicles. this is on road only. we're actually not focused on tent encampments with this pilot. but on on roads were able to figure out when people are living in their car, rv. >> as mahan said, the city was initially focused on fighting potholes and graffiti. but they realize these cameras can served dual purposes. he has.

something. so last hopefully within 5 months will be the owners of the last las vegas athletics. you heard that correctly a's fan group, the last dive bar. one of a's owner john fisher's, most vocal opponents has applied for the trademark las vegas athletics. find it really interesting data for over a year, right? they haven't applied for las vegas athletics. trademark. that makes you wonder. what does it make? you wonder? well, you know, there's a lot of rumors at the start that the whole las vegas thing was just and will be having the a's do their work for them investigate. you know, expansion in las vegas and so maybe case was never the final destination for the athletics. and so maybe it was always sacramento. you don't know ryan johansen with the last dive bar says the reason they've applied for the las vegas athletics. trademark is
5:18 pm
simple. it's the teen has taken everything from us from has a fan base. they're despicable humans. as far as the front office, i don't care about the fans. it will care about the community. don't care about baseball. so we thought this would be a great way to just kind of. be a thorn in their side. and if they want the trademark, you know, and it gets approved, they got to go through to get it. johansen says his group should know in 5 months if they get that trademark. >> then he says watch out for what comes next. >> we're definitely excited about the possibility if we get that trademark, there's a lot of fun stuff we're going to do with it. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> if you want to catch the last a's game at the oakland coliseum, tickets are on sale. they're going as low as $20 on the mlb website right now. but the tickets are also already being resold for double that price on reseller websites. the game is against the texas rangers on september. 26. >> whether time here as we take a live look outside and

5:20 pm
tonight and yeah, certainly been very active out there to employees. temperatures just something else looking out. drop down to 44 in livermore. that gives you idea underneath an active thunderstorms. so they're getting a good downdraft there. we see numerous thunderstorms now, the east bay elsewhere around the bay area. lot of sunshine just passing clouds. and you can see that storm system kind of just rolling now all the way down to southern california. look at all the lightning strikes begin to pop up in the afternoon to get a little heating in the afternoon. and there you go. that's where we sit right now. so very active out there right now will continue to be that way until we watch that son come down and that will be bringing into the heating and give rise the atmosphere. so things are going to calm down. but right it is going out there in spots, especially in the east bay. we're talking about the numerous thunderstorms got livermore. you saw the temperature dropped to 44 degrees. got a couple lightning strikes in the area. giving you an idea of what we're dealing with out there right now and more of that on the way. so here we go. i think we're going to see some changes coming our way, though, as we head in toward the weekend. i think you're going to like it. of course, lot of folks would like to get back to some spring weather were eventually we'll see that
