now on the phone, morning news, open leaders move forward with renaming the oakland airport. >> saying is going benefit the city despite a was a leaders threatening legal action. and also police trying to figure out what led up to a deadly shooting. this happened in the jail town neighborhood. and always a highway. 80 are back open after a semi truck overturned in a word shutting it down for hours. have all that and more coming up. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at no. >> good morning. thank you for joining us here at 09:00am on james fletcher. a harvey in for darya folsom today. the big story, the changing for cats right today is our last dry day before winter returns. we've got john with all the

exactly right. a dry one today. so don't cancel those plans for today, just because it's looking a little cooler. it's still going to be a pleasant day to be out and about just a little cloudier and definitely jacket where the your view outside right now at what we've got over san francisco, a few mid level clouds, a deep in marine layer scooting across the bay in that ocean. cool. they're definitely cooling us off. even in advance of the cold front that is still sitting to the north and west of us, which is going to result in showers kicking off overnight tonight into tomorrow. and then those even cooler temperatures come tomorrow. right now temperatures are hanging out in the 50's for most areas oakland-alameda at 54 degrees right now. well, petaluma at 53 later today. only 60's. really daytime highs, a full 15 degrees cooler for some inland spots than yesterday. i'll be talking this weekend's rainfall, which is on its way very soon. still to come, michael thomas is at a busy morning looking at the roads. what's the latest? >> yeah, good morning, everyone. will we have had a busy 2 days. this is day 2 now of a big rig over turning in

the east bay for our commuters and taking a closer look. you can see it's right at southbound 8.80, it's near the winton avenue in hayward and essentially that big rig did turn over on its side. it did have 2 tractors attached to it. that backtracked the second backtrack or they were able to get it back up on its right side. so things are looking good. the eta of cleanup was 9 o'clock. if you are looking for some alternative routes, you're heading that way, because we're still seeing a lot of residual delays. you can exit west a street and take us period boulevard all the way down. again. the crashes right near winton avenue on southbound lanes. so the 2 left lanes are still currently closed, looking at some areas towards that accident. you can livermore to dublin. it's a 60 minute commute. 5.80, looks good. the castro valley area could start to see some delays at some point. but my best that would be for you to take 6.80. and if you are taking 6.80, you can see that commute. 21 minutes from dublin to fremont lastly, we'll take a look at the san mateo bridge. 13 minute

commute from 8.80, to 101. so things are looking a lot better and will tran will have more details on what that semis looking like. it hopefully it's all cleared up. other breaking news. let's go and see what what that looks like on southbound 8.80, with will tran. >> what's the latest word will? >> are us to finally get the big rig out of here. but exactly what they did at around 08:30am, in the morning right now, caltrans crews, they are cleaning up the mast mean the oil spill. they put some absorbent on the ground and you can see them scooping it up once they do that, they will clear this scene reopening all of southbound 8.80, back to the public. but the damage severely done starting at 04:30am, in the morning when the big rig driver just was either drowsy at the wheel, possibly speeding. they're still investigating that. but they

believe may be possibly drowsy because he bounced off the right side, right? well, on southbound 8.80, tried to correct the big rig and ultimately went all across the freeway and then slammed into the center divider on southbound 8.80, just before the 92 split. they had to shut down all lanes initially and then slowly but surely at around 7 o'clock in the morning, they open up another lane, giving it 2 lanes at 8 o'clock 3 lanes. and then they are ready to leave this particular scene here. but the damage stretched for miles and it took a long time because the back of the semi truck actually was overturned. so they hadn't basically cut it in half. get the back of the big rig on all of its wheels. and then tow the big rig basically individually away from this particular scene and look at the mess that it had to clean up. as far as the

caltrans crews, all the burned out flares on the roadway. but the good news is if you are leaving now, you probably won't feel it much longer as it's starting to unclog, so to speak, like a pipe that was clogged now is starting to unclog. and as the morning moves on, you drive by here, you're probably wouldn't even know that for hours traffic was going maybe one, 2 miles per hour past the scene. all right. well, thank you, 904, is the time and elsewhere in the east bay. we have leaders out there at the port of oakland voting unanimously to move forward with renaming oakland airport. so the board there to make a final vote next month. this is san francisco is getting ready. >> to follow lawsuit against the port saying that new name infringes supposed trademark. we have kron four's sara stinson with the very latest. >> and impending lawsuit from san francisco didn't seem to stop the port of oakland's board. in fact, they didn't bring it up at all.

commissioners only talked about how the name change will put oakland airport on the map boosting its revenue. the oakland airport is one step closer to getting a new name. the san francisco bay, oakland international airport to stickley i 7 eyes most the board of port commissioners unanimously voted in favor of the new name in its first reading of the ordinance thursday afternoon. the commission says this is needed to boost travelers, geographic awareness of where the airport is located because there's a lack of name recognition or you're a graphic again, if any information on the airport. >> it is hard to sell tickets to a down during public comment. nearly 2 dozen people spoke some in favor of the new name. we see that that this will expose oakland. >> to an international market that is not necessarily aware of our location, but some who live in oakland spoke against it. this seems like corporate

gentrification. >> if you have to change and keep oakland in the front, san francisco doesn't want the proposed name has gained a lot of criticism from san francisco officials. we believe that this new name >> will ultimately be misleading to customers creating greater confusion. the service. >> and ill will san francisco city attorney david chiu send a letter to the board on monday threatening legal action saying the rename infringes suppose trademark chu says the vote forces them to pursue litigation are very disappointed that oakland. >> refused to engage with us. we're sending that they're going for and we will consider all legal options. the president of the board requested that they take the next couple weeks today. just public comments and take the final vote. >> on may 9th. meanwhile, the sf city attorney plans to release next steps and taking legal action against the port in the coming days. i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. back to you. >> thank you, sarah. 907, is a

time and search and rescue teams up in sonoma county are still looking for a missing teen who was last spotted in the russian river right around steelhead beach. was a little before 05:00pm yesterday that someone called sonoma county fire about 2 teens that needed to be rescued from the water. crews responded. they were able to pull one of those teams out, but they're still looking for the second one. their search has resumed this morning. well, business owners along valencia street in san francisco's mission district are prepared to take legal action against the city over those new bike lanes that were installed on that street. they say those lanes are blocking to customers. it devastated their revenue. fact, they say more than 10 businesses on the lake to street have closed since the city installed those bike lanes. >> well, a berkeley man was charged with a woman right near bart station. investigators say it happened around 6 monday night while the victim was walking near the north conquered bart police say ridge junior attacked or forced her to the ground and raped or lease. a woman fought back to them and eventually ran into the bart

station. police say they later found ridge and arrested him on the bart train. court documents show ridge was released from jail for days before that conquer barred attack. he was arrested last month in millbrae after he reportedly assaulted a woman at over a bart station. well, congress police say the man is also a convicted murderer behind bars for almost 15 years. prosecutors say ridge was freed from prison sometime after 2019 because of change in the california law. >> well, deadly shooting shutdown oakland city streets for hours last night and have a right along kennedy street right near 8.80. that kron four's dan thorn with that story. >> heartbroken family members stunned while standing before a number of oakland police investigators after a man was shot and killed. police having to cordon off kennedy street between denison and the i-80 south on-ramp for several hours thursday evening, traffic heading onto the

freeway building up at times as many onlookers responded to the large police presence, a woman who lives along kennedy street telling kron 4 off camera the killing may have been related to an attempted robbery. police have not confirmed those details after investigators comb through the scene, the alameda county coroner's office collected the man's body. the police tape was eventually removed as officers cleared the scene and with several businesses in the industrial area. it's unclear if any security video captured what happened. >> we're still working to get more information about this killing. we'll keep you updated as we learn more from oakland police in oakland, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> planned parent of clinics in california are preparing for an increase in out of state patients for abortions after the arizona supreme court of held a ban on the procedure. this comes in the wake of tuesday's decision to effectively ban abortions by reinstating an 18 64 law. that

snowfall right here in the bay area towards the time you're getting up tomorrow morning, right at the tail end of at least that first wave of energy will get a few hours break during morning hours afternoon, though, we kick it back up with chance of convection thunderstorm building towards the latter half of the day for your saturday. so saturday starts having seen that heavy overnight rain fall and will end with some additional showers and a chance of thunderstorms sunday. we're not quite out of the woods. a few isolated showers here and there, but definitely lighter than saturday after that. that's when we're smooth sailing. as far as rainfall totals go, models are all in agreement. now it's any between a half an inch further inland and inch and a half, especially closer to the coastline. so this is a good amount of rainfall, especially after that warm up. we saw for the sierra some snowfall in the sierra, but not a ton in the northern sierra. only a wind advisory as you're heading over donner summit, expect a few inches of snow likely no closures up there. this system is really going to impact the central and southern sierra talking

yosemite through sequoia, national parks with winter weather advisories there. and that's where expect over a foot of snowfall. where is donner summit echo past a few inches of it. maybe upwards of 6 inches of snow. as for the bay area today, we are going to be looking at temperatures anywhere from the 50's at the coast to the 60's to barely crack in the low 70's, really just for the south bay, though, temperatures for the rest of us going to be as much as 15 degrees cooler than they were yesterday, which is a noticeable difference to say the least. we're still nice. we're just not as warm as we were. oakland at 62 today and the act. one of our warmer spots yesterday. it only 68 degrees today and tomorrow it will be even cooler yet with highs only in the upper 50's and those cold showers next week. even though we do clear out and dry out, we're still not going to warm up too much only in the low 70's at the warmest michael. >> thanks, john, like to hear those warm weather days. also make for good traffic days. well, this morning we're still

seeing some residual delays over in the east bay. so if you're commuting this morning, keep that in mind. take a look. there was a semi that was overturned. i know you're thinking that happened yesterday morning. it did will happen today as well. so southbound 80 all lanes are currently open. it's in the hayward area, but we're still seeing a lot of residual delays. it's near the whitney avenue area. so just keep that in mind as you're heading out for that morning commute, taking a look at some areas that may have been affected by that. a lot of people were taking 6.80 and you can see those over in livermore and dublin right now, 15 minute commute. not too bad. so overall, good taking a look over in antioch, antioch, to concord. a 20 minute commute that morning congestion is now gone. taking a look at some drive times those heading over towards the bay bridge in the maze crockett to the maze. 19 minute commute, walnut creek to 5, 80 13 minute commute. castro valley to the may 16 minute commute stanley and or to the maze. also a 60 minute look at that bay bridge. right now. those metering lights are off. it's only a 15 minute commute across the bridge into

the city. some drive times for those who are a little bit more inland livermore to dublin, 15 minutes, dublin to fremont 20 minutes, san leandro to milpitas 30 minutes, which is great because about an hour ago that was at 90 minutes milpitas to sunnyvale. seven-minute commute. lastly, we'll take a look at some bridges. we've got the san mateo bridge, 13 minute commute, which is all great, leslie, that golden gate bridge with the 20 minute commute into the city. james andrade, i'll send it back to okay, michael, thank you. 9.19 is the time in the north bay. the city of toledo has entered now into a settlement agreement. >> 4 police oversight with california's department of justice in twenty-twenty valais police department was supposed to implement at least 45 reforms that dealt with everything from unlawful use of force to racial bias. >> and strengthening police accountability. well, the department has complied with 20 of those 45 recommendations, but the doj says that's not enough. california's attorney general rob bonta said in a statement thursday that the new agreement with the city and the police department

demonstrates commitment now to correcting injustices and enhancing public safety for the people of the land. well, here are some dramatic video of a helicopter rescue on mount tam deputies say that woman was in a car that went down a ravine wednesday night. and that clearly was so just rough in terms of terrain that they had to basically use that helicopter to drop somebody down and snag her and bring her back up for taken to the hospital. a dramatic rescue that all's well that ends. well, luckily, she was fine. now. >> times on i-20 and they're only a few days left to file your taxes haven't done again. right now. the irs says they're ready to help if you need our washington correspondent basil, john explains. time's running out for you to do your taxes go at

the irs is to make the tax filing process as simple easy as possible. irs commissioner danny werfel. >> says the irs is ready to help with more workers in call centers in for walk-ins. >> and updated irs website and by offering direct file for millions of americans are excited about all these changes that we're making to help serve taxpayers better. the irs has already processed more than 88 million tax returns. and we're a full says recent investments have made the process quicker for last minute filers. >> 2 out of every 3 taxpayers that's file with us been found and we need to be ready to help them get those refunds. timely. ted rossman with bankrate encourages taxpayers to file electronically for the fastest refunds. you can still be snagged if you file on paper, but if you file electronically. >> and you don't have any weird exceptions are mistakes. you know, most people are getting those refunds within about 3 weeks. the irs warns

>> county sheriffs are investigating a robbery that took place in the early morning hours. officials say they responded to a report of an armed robbery out of business on al camino road just after 02:00am deputies say 2 armed suspects allegedly stole various items from the business before they fled on foot. police say that investigation is still ongoing as they are still looking for both suspects. >> well, the contra costa animal shelter is overflowing right now with pets. and so they're looking for more people to trying to adopt or foster them. they say they're waiving the fees right now to sweeten the deal in hopes of bringing some of these animals to their homes. >> like shelters across the bay in the state. you know, trying outside of the box ideas putting in new programs and initiatives to help, you know, get more pets whether that's going casual a doctor who was looking to adopt their new family member or to a rescue who's going to spend

back 9.30, is the time as we get a check of the weather and i mean, i can't believe the weekend is here and it was far from friday. light bright weather stake in a twist. luckily we get to squeeze out one more day of dry weather. john, we got this one more yet that we don't have to worry about showers today tomorrow. on the other hand, it's totally the opposite. it's going to be fairly active for most of the day on saturday. >> so go ahead. take advantage of this one. just do it with that extra layer outside. looking outside right now from mount tam. we've got a bit of cloud cover out there for sure. it's a bit breezy. it's a bit cooler than yesterday. no 80's, hardly even any 70's. and there's your showers sitting several hours to our north. the really begin impacting us overnight tonight. so unless you're out really late tonight, you're not going to see much of anything. temperatures right now are in the 50's conquered and hayward at 56, oakland and alameda each at 54 degrees right now later on today, we'll get to the 60's. but only a couple spots even reaching 70. and after the

past few days of 80's, that is definitely on the cooler side. michael. >> thanks, john. well, good morning, everyone. it's friday and things are finally finally starting to clear up. we did see some major delays in the east bay this morning. but right now things are all good. we're just seeing a couple of residual delays. you can see it's right on southbound 8.80, in the hayward area. it's near the winton avenue. so just if you're passing through their know that you're eventually going to make it through. taking a live look right now at the bay bridge. you can see it's a total commuted. 15 minutes from the east bay, the maze into the city. not too bad for friday morning. taking a live look at the richmond. sandra fell bridge 7 minutes from tolls to 101. everything is moving smoothly. there. lastly, san mateo bridge, there we go. 13 minute commute over there. there was some earlier delays. there was some vehicles that were pulled over onto the side. chp says those are now cleared. so we may see a couple of residual delays as you pass over that bridge. lastly, that golden gate bridge, you can see the sun beaming down a little bit 20

without parole. no word on the identity of the victim. a motorcyclist died yesterday after crashing into a freeway barrier in san francisco. investigators say he was driving on the eastbound 80 connector to 101 when he lost control, hit a freeway barrier and launched himself into the lanes of westbound 80 police say that is where a vehicle struck him. >> well, we have news for the salmon fishing he's been banned or second year in a row because of the low population of fish. so state officials voted to close the season. experts say the 2019, 2020 drought played a huge role. they say the salmon. they respond in those drought years and migrated now. and i had a really low survival rate because the water was so warm. >> it's the best way to handle it. we've we've done it before. the fish do come back. if you just leave them alone. >> governor gavin newsom requested a federal fishery disaster declaration to support fishing communities this year. but experts say

that's going to take months before federal approval. state officials are going to vote on fishing only in streams, rivers sometime next month. >> in the south bay and invasive mosquito that carries deadly viruses for humans was discovered in a san jose neighborhood with kron four's philippe to call reporting on what's being done to try to get rid of them. >> this adult female 80's. the mosquito that we collected from the china lane last week, machado lane is in an east san jose neighborhood and county of santa clara vector control district ecologist doctor taylor kelly says this is one of 6 80's aegypti mosquitoes found during the district's regular surveillance program in traps set across the community. arts for the beautiful mosquito today have these sort iridescent white scales, black and white lakes, which people may be able to recognize that they're getting it. >> and then they also have this beautiful liar pattern on their back. doctor kelly stresses the public, though, to not get lost and their

there. chance of thunderstorms really picks up into the mid afternoon tomorrow and then pockets of heavy rain. even downpours expected throughout the remainder of the day into the evening sunday itself will be calmer but not ruling out some showers and even some late day showers drifting through the bay area towards the close of the day on sunday. after that, we are smooth sailing. the rest of the forecast models are in alignment now that we will receive around a half an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall for the bay. most of those higher rainfall totals will be up in the santa cruz mountains. leiter totals further inland out towards the delta, the sierra. we'll see snowfall of the lighter amounts further north in the sierra. that means lake tahoe is not going to be the focus of this system. just a few inches of snow up that way with some wind advisories. this is more so a central and southern sierra snow maker with yosemite down through sequoia national parks under winter weather advisory starting tomorrow. and that's where you'll see that several feet of snowfall. if you're heading up donner summit,
