about how hot it's going to get this weekend morning, john. yep, you won't know where you're at because we're all looking high. it's not a coastal escape kind today. it's going to be a coastal lay on the beach and catch the rays can today. we are looking at a very warm one and we can attribute it to those dry offshore winds. your view outside at san francisco from about from mount tam, you can see the wobble that camera has that is that strong wind that is working its way from the interior out towards the coast. and it's really putting a stop to any sort of cool coastal breeze that pushes inland. that's temperatures are going to skyrocket and no cloud cover. no fog whatsoever. right now we're already at 70 degrees in alameda. honestly, we pretty much hung out there all night long temperatures last night for a lot of spots. actually state are really, really mild throughout the course of the evening. and today will continue to rise as the sun comes up. more and more mid to upper 70's along the coastline and a range of 80's for the rest of us. i've got the rest, the breakdown of your forecast as we go. but rain is standing

>> hey, good morning, everyone. right before we went on, a gentleman stopped to ask me and give his opinion. he says he does not like the name san francisco bay oakland airport, which is what oakland officials want to change it to. and they say they're voting on it today at 01:00pm, whether san francisco or essentially residents like it or not. take a look. we've got video up on your screen so i can break it all down. now, the port of oakland said that sees nothing wrong with adding the words san francisco bay to oakland airport name. well, the city of san francisco doesn't actually filed a lawsuit. essentially. they say that the name would cause a lot of confusion and chaos for travelers. but oakland officials say they did a survey with customers and they found that these customers actually like the name change and welcome. it will take a listen to what san francisco city attorney david chiu had to regarding that >> we had a chance finally to take a look at their so-called customer survey. and it was riddle with all sorts of issues. it was essentially a survey that push respondent's toward the answers that they wanted. it didn't give them

the direct choice. from our perspective, we think any reasonable person. here's a name. san francisco international airport next. a san francisco bay, oakland international airport. well understand how clearly similar those 2 names are and the likely confusion that those names will create. and that's a standard for a clear infringement case. >> now the oakland airport officials essentially say that that letter from david with the offer to collaborate on a different name will be shared at today's board meeting again at 01:00pm. but the city attorney says you know, they don't want it done. and oakland officials say that suit was filed prematurely. now i did speak with some oakland residents and travelers this morning. take a listen to what their opinion on the name change was. >> i can say i like the name because i've lived here not only use on the san francisco and the last is something, you know, one of the people who

don't live here, they don't even know the >> that back out here live, i have spoken to a total 6 different people. and i will say not one has said that they are in favor of the san francisco bay oakland airport. a lot of these residents, whether they're in the east bay or oakland itself, they do want to stay airport. so that meeting is set for 1 o'clock today and we'll find out essentially what the new airport that currently standing in, which is oakland airport. if it's going to change or not. tara and james, i will send it back want. i call it not lead to dinner. i mean, it's always on time. yeah, it's always sunny. there are very few delilah that living la vida, which is real good michaels. will say a lot of of these customers are travelers. i should say one of their biggest things was they said it's a lot easier. it's a smoother transition. and we like the difference between oakland and san francisco. do with that information. what love. michael, thank you. 805, right now and

>> and a big story this morning. a lot more people are working from home not going into the office. and now google is saying goodbye to a really big office in san francisco. they just announced they're going to be leaving that huge water front office tower. kron four's will tran is there for us live this morning. >> with more will. >> the office is right behind me, james. and a lot of people are showing up to work and no problems. they are going to the right place, at least until next april. after that, then if you go here, you didn't get the memo that google is shutting down its location at san francisco. one market plaza. i can tell you that they're not leaving san francisco, but they are struggling like many other businesses. do we let them work from home or or do we tell them to come to the office and google has made his decision at least at this office saying you don't have to come here come next year. they've already sold their landlord. don't plan to renew our lease. google will stay in

san francisco and they have plenty of other offices. but shutting down this location is tantamount to shutting down their flagship store if they were in the retail business, it's basically shutting down their flagship stores say they don't want 300,000 square feet anymore at this waterfront property. san francisco dealing with a public relations image because other businesses have either entirely moved out or doing what google is going to do, move a lot of their business in this case, one office. but other retailers have moved many of their stores out of san francisco. take a look at your screen. google did respond to this. they want to ease the fears of san franciscans at the same time letting the world know that you know what they might not have more offices in san francisco in the future because of hybrid. keep that word the mic. so we reached out to them in the overnight hours and they reached back. this is what they had to say. as we have said before we are

focusing on investing in real estate efficiently to meet the current and future needs of our hybrid workforce, we remain committed to our long-term presence in san francisco and they have a long-term presence in san francisco. this office has been around since 2018, but the clock is ticking on the landlord to find a new tenant to fill 300,000 square fept. google is a hard act to follow, though. so they have work to do. and as far as google, plenty of other offices, they say this is a sliver, albeit a big sliver of their workforce. back to you. >> all right. good enough will thank you. it's 807, and dozens of people gathered in berkeley to support the superintendent of the berkeley unified school district. yeah. and kia ford fell testified before congress on what's being done now to handle the rise in anti-semitism in schools for sara stinson follows the story.

>> dozens of parents and community members rallied at the old city hall in berkeley wednesday in support of the superintendent and the kia forte. more thelle. i thought she did an amazing job. more thought was one of 3 school leaders who are grilled by u.s. house republicans about how they're handling a rise in anti-semitism since the conflict erupted between israel and palestine. in october. we have. >> teachers that are teaching hate to our kids and showing it students being a feeling fearful for this. do they are? they found transfer to another school the u.s. department of education is investigating. be usd over accusations. the district has failed to address, quote, nonstop severe and persistent bullying of jewish students. more thelle defended the district's actions. if we have a concern or complaint about anti-semitism or any form of hate. >> we take it very seriously. we investigate and we take action pending the outcome of that investigate hours after

the congressional hearing, community members rallied in support of the district. people held up signs that read defended berkeley schools and congress fund education, not genocide. and the fact that headlines the headlines, this liz jackson is a jewish mom of 2 kids in berkeley unified. she and other parents at the rally say they feel education should not be censored. >> we teach them that. it's not safe to talk about the genocide on we're in danger ourselves and we're in danger or problem is that their representatives and many people, parents and community members think that only one perspective should be taught. and the other side is all about terrorism. and that's not right. it's racist. back in november, more than 12,000 parents and community members in berkeley center letter. >> to the board of education and superintendent complaining

about anti-semitism in the classroom. we reached out to some of those parents, but they could not speak to us in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. back to you. >> that's k through 12. what about the university cal at u c berkeley on their campus? they're still pushing forward with their graduation, which is happening this weekend. even while the protest encampment on campus is growing. callie ders say that they're going to be able to have a safe fun graduation for all the parents who come to town in the last few days to celebrate and and celebrate the achievements of the students who work so hard. they don't want to put that offer, not have a a celebrations. so they're doing it at memorial stadium handling it much like they do a football game. they get 4 tickets each each student does. and then same protocols. far security, no backpacks or banners or anything like that. i have to have clear bags. the school says it is ready to deal with anything it has been dealing with anything and they feel that the graduation is very important.

>> graduates, their friends in the family and their families. should be able to enjoy one of the most meaningful days in their lives. we haven't made any changes in our plans, but we understand that there is a possibility of disruption this year, like every year in the past. >> at this point so far so good. the protesters are still set up at sproul plaza and they're calling on the university to divest from israel. a school spokesperson says that cows not going to divest and they will. there will be no academic boycott of israel, according to the university, the negotiations are continuing between the administration and the protesters. but there's been no agreement that would end this. now 3 week tent encampment. it's a 12 right now. and still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news. >> a business owner in the east bay is not giving up. even though look at this shop even though look at this shop

new this morning, the zoo in oakland welcomes. >> it's 6 giraffe. 13 month-old male giraffe came from the audubon nature institute in louisiana. and he's going to be separated from its herd mates for now as he's getting used to his new environment that will be moved into the giraffe habitat. well, that's already for him. so you'll be able to see him soon at the oakland zoo. how cool is that? very cool. by the way, the zoo says that he still needs a name. oh, let's take a >> but how do you got to going on? is ours and the different names swahili 3 swahili names.

going to be. >> little bit foggy out there after today. so if you're looking for a good today is the one some 70's to low 80's out there. half moon bay looks great this morning. we're still tapping into those offshore winds which are still in effect for lake county, a coastal wind advisory and a high wind watch up in lake county. the rest of our advisories have expired. that's a sign of winds relaxing just a little bit today. still breezy enough, though, to kind of be that stop sign for any sort of cool coastal breeze from pushing up against the coast. and that means a warm one for us. this offshore wind due to the low pressure to the east, the high to our west and the pressure gradient in the middle really stirring things up out there. and our extended forecast. our temperature outlook looking warmer than average, not just the rest of this week, but this into next week, too. so we're settled in for some 80's for inland areas. and just today, those 70's to 80's at the coast. so again, today, if you want to get to the coast, it is the day to do so. the

rest of us, you don't have any rush. we're going to be keeping this around for a while. carlos, 87 redwood city, one of our warmer spots. 88 south bay also really warm upper 80's for you low to mid 80's across the east bay. regardless of if you're inland or by the bay shore, walnut creek and concord, as well as santa rosa. also among our hottest of spots, getting up to 88 degrees today. tomorrow, we will see a couple of 90's. i'm anticipating officially got it there on the seven-day forecast saturday, much the same. our coastal areas, though, are in for a cool down after today. so if you need those coastal escapes to get to the cool, it's going to return by sunday for mother's day. mid 80's inland 50's at the coast right all right, john, thank you for that. in the last hour, we had an accident on or san matteo bridge. >> drive times up to about 40 minutes. well, they were quickly able to get that off the bridge. that was just west of foster city. that exit. now at 35 minutes. so we're slowly going down. maybe next. check in will be a little lower. 20

minutes on the bay bridge traveling into the city this morning. no accidents along the richmond, sandra fell bridge or the golden gate bridge for the golden gate bridge also will slow because 101 of the north bay. 60 minute ride. 85 up to menlo park to 80 82 in the 8 o'clock hour. might be a good option for you. so we have to do help. he dissed about 60 minutes there. and if you're hopping along 80, you're backed up to hercules. so crockett down towards the maze. about 40 minutes, san pablo avenue might be good alternate for you at this time. darya. james, back to you. all right, reena, thank you. 8.18 is the time and the man behind a double hit and run who led police on a wild chase through san francisco has been identified. >> police say 54 year-old jefferson, rodney was behind the wheel of this blue and white mustang on tuesday when he hit 2 pedestrians, one of the tenderloin and the other, a 14 year-old girl in north beach. she was crossing the street at school. police chase, rodney for about an hour and a half before we finally came to a stop their green and dark and arrow. we're told both people who were hit will be okay.

although the teenage girl did suffer a shoulder and ankle fracture. so she's still recovering in the hospital. rodney has been book now on multiple charges. >> it's 8.19, and the owner of an east bay martial arts studio is vowing to stay open even though his place keeps getting hit by vandals. yeah, the owner says he's just trying to run a positive business for kids and families in west oakland kron four's dan storm with the story. >> windows broken and walls painted with graffiti at afro-brazilian martial arts oakland vandalism has become an unfortunate occurrence to side. >> i'm disappointed. because, you know, say i try to understand what i'm doing wrong. >> owner loose of although day olivia era opened the studio for years ago with the hope of teaching the brazilian art form of capital era. but daily vieira says over time the space is also grown to become a community center for children and families.

>> kron 4 news. time now is a 21 in this week marks national nurses week, a group of nurses at laguna honda hospital are asking for more than a pat on the back, though. >> they are on the picket lines today outside the hospital between 2 and 04:00pm asking the city to take action in hiring more staff before admitting more patients. the nurses say in order to protect and improve the quality of patient care, hiring more staff is inevitable. the group is hoping to come to an agreement with the city, but they say they are prepared to strike if it comes to that. all right. we're going to take a break in a 21. >> coming up on the kron 4 morning news. how police say these 2 porches were able to be stolen right out of be stolen right out of dealership with that story in

>> a 24 is the time in the north bay, santa rosa. police now looking for the driver of a pickup truck connected to a hit and run last month. that accident injured a motorcycle rider and this was at the intersection of hopper avenue and airway drive. take a look at this 2. we have a picture of the truck. the police are looking for. it's a gray ford f one, 50 it's a 2004 to 2008 model with a parent stickers in the top drivers side corner of the windshield. it has distinctive black rims, no front license plate. as you can see here in this picture, it has rectangle fog lamps and silver sidesteps. if you have any information about who the driver was or where this vehicle is, please contact santa rosa police. it's a 25 and a brown. one police officer pulled over a car that didn't have a rear license

plate and >> look what they found. a whole bunch of burglary equipment was in that car driven by robert garcia, who admitted to the police that he didn't have a valid driver's license either during this stop. and he was also on felony probation for vehicle theft conviction after searching the car. that's when police found all of this. lots of different car keys for different makes and gloves and all kinds of different equipment and devices that can be used to hack digital devices and steal cars. they arrested garcia. >> 25 is that i'm speaking of theft. fremont. police are still looking for a suspect in connection with the theft of these 2 porsches from a dealership. so these 2 cars to be clear have already been recovered. one suspect is in custody, but they're still looking for a second suspect this morning. he's the one pictured here with one of these cars. you can see it here. police say last month 2 people broke into this porsche dealership on cushing way and drove those cars through the glass. the first suspect

identified as nova moore was arrested last month in hayward. police say they found rifles stolen property and even a police radio scanner inside of his home. anyone with information on this second suspect is asked to call fremont police time now is 8.26. >> governor gavin newsom is asking the california supreme court to remove the measure from the november ballot that would make it more difficult for government to raise capitol correspondent eytan wallace. i'll take you inside the hearing and a lot reaction from supporters and opponents.

today. yeah, even more so tomorrow we've got john with our end of the week forecast a john. we've got quite the warm-up in the works for us today at the coastline. most notably you're going to be her really warm. today's your one day at the coast where it's going to be just as warm as the rest of the bay area. in many cases before you are that little bit of relief that the rest of us can head to looking outside at the golden gate bridge skies are crystal clear. one of the reasons we're so warm across the entire bay is that offshore wind that still pushing out towards the coastline, transporting a lot of that warm, dry air that all of us are feeling right out to the water right now. temperatures are in the 70's for alameda, san francisco novato up to santa rosa. in fact, some of us barely left the 70's last night. it was a very mild, if not warm evening for us. daytime highs today will be upper 70's to low 80's at the coast in 80's consistently for the rest of us, i will be talking just as weather for the rest of the forecast. all still to come radar. all right, john, thank you for

that. still time in uber around those residual delays we're seeing on our mateo bridge. >> so last hour we had an accident just west of that foster city exit. not as what up to about 42 minutes. they got that off of the bridge now drive times. still hovering around 40 minutes. so just needs more time to pass. this traffic continues to flow through. hopefully that number's going to drop down a bridge. no accidents there. about a 14 minute ride. we started at 14 minutes throughout the morning. up to 20. so making good progress there. still around 14 on the richmond, sandra fell bridge. wait for that to go back down to 7 golden gate bridge around 34 minutes. and let's check out those highways red across the board, east bay all the way down to the south bay an hour to maybe wait it out until traffic starts to go down or just give yourself a lot of extra time. darya. james, back to you. thanks a lot, it is 8.31 right now and there are some questions now. >> about a steering malfunction in that event, fashion electric vehicle pleasanton family was in when

they were killed, that the car just settling lurch to the right now with kron four's dan kerman with more on where the investigation stands this morning. >> it was 2 weeks ago when a family of 4 was killed on foothill road near stone ridge drive when the vehicle they were driving, lost control, hit a pole and then crashed into a tree before bursting into flames. the vehicle in question vinfast a new entry into the electric vehicle market. now an unidentified person is filed a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration or nitsa describing what appears to be this crash and complaining about the car's steering system. the complaint seems to come from the owner of the 2023 vinfast vf 8 who admits to having steering problems before loaning the card to a co-worker who died in the crash. the complaint says the steering wheel automatically maneuvered to the right direction. however, the contact was able to regain control of the steering wheel and maneuvered into the correct lane. the context stated the failure recurred

where the lane assist was turned on by default and it would automatically move the steering wheel. the contact was concerned that the failure, rick heard while the co-worker was driving, that raises questions about the vehicles, lane assist feature the way these link keeping assist systems generally work. >> is you have a camera that's mounted behind the wind above the mirror. typically that's looking forward. looking looking ahead at the road and it's looking for the lane lines. the lane markings. and then i'm sending that signal. it certainly recognizes the lane markings will send that signal electronic control unit in the vehicle that is tied to your steering. sam abuelsamid is an auto industry analyst with guidehouse insights. he says it's not unusual for an automaker to have issues when they launch a new vehicle, especially. >> when it has new features and technology, it's designed to keep you in the land. however, you know, the all

need to be calibrated properly. the camera needs to be calibrated the steering and will need to be calibrated and it could be that what's happening with these been fast vehicles is that the cameras not properly calibrated. and so it's thinks that the cars in a position where it's not that it's a website includes a total of 9 complaints about the 2023 vinfast vf. 8, 3 citing steering problems. will now investigate. but experts say not to expect any action any time soon. >> it can take a long time before they take any action. sometimes years. kron four's reached out to vinfast for comment but did not hear back the cause of the pleasanton crash remains under investigation. dan kerman kron. 4 news. well, the man accused of attempting to kill his family by driving off a cliff in san mateo county will have a final hearing this week. >> in a mental health diversion court was on friday morning. that attorneys for

dharmesh patel will deliver closing arguments. the unique case hinges on what kind of mental health crisis the father was suffering from when he veered off the highway. back in january of last year. his wife, 2 kids are all inside the family car when he plunged them all off that 250 foot cliff. on friday, the judge could decide to divert the tells case out of criminal court and instead put him into a mental health treatment program. but if the judge rules in favor of the defense patel will be freed from jail immediately. and once he completes a two-year program is record would be cleared. >> it's a 34 3 men has been arrested for a robbery that happened in berkeley where at what point a gun was held to a toddlers hand. this happened last week, wednesday afternoon in the area, bancroft way and shattuck avenue. there are 2 guys came up to a victim and pointed a gun and demanded property and and then at one point they turned the gun to a 2 year-old pointed the gun at the 2 year-old head and a man

of the property again and then hit the victim >> with some parent, the the older person who was there that victim in the head with the gun, the child is ok and was unharmed. these people are robbers took off in a car. so now they're looking for a car matching the description. they did pull it over. but the driver sped off. so they tasted in oakland. they crashed the car and they did. 3 men took off, but they did eventually arrest those 3. >> kron 4 is your local election headquarters and there's a big fight brewing now over a major ballot measure that would make it tougher for local and for state governments to raise your taxes. california supreme court has actually taken up this lawsuit. >> calling on the justices to remove the better of from the ballot. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has more. >> meeting in san francisco justices on the california supreme court heard arguments supporting and opposing the taxpayer protection and government accountability act or tpa. they specifically must decide whether to take it off

the november ballot. the proposed measure already qualified for the upcoming november ballots with more than 1 million signatures turned supporters note, if passed, the measure would require voters to approve every new state tax increase or new state fee proposed by the state legislature or local governments. it would also change the voter threshold for local citizen run tax initiatives from a simple majority to at least two-thirds majority needed to but governor gavin newsom and democratic members of the legislature say the measure is illegal because they believe it was significantly revise the california state constitution. it would prevent government from doing its job. that's why newsom says he filed a lawsuit asking the california supreme court to consider removing the measure from the november 2024 ballot. attorney mark or printin represented the governor during oral arguments at the high court. if taxing were subject to voter approval. >> it might become impossible and it would certainly be

delayed for for the legislature to try pass a balanced budget, raise revenues that are necessary on the other side, attorney thomas hi-tech represented the measure's proponents, including the howard jarvis taxpayers association. >> they want the measure to remain on the ballot, our constitution since its inception. >> has stated that all political power inherent in the people. >> and what tpa does its recent war, not only the people's power to have check and balance on that requires the legislature to be part of that process. that's accountability. assembly speaker robert remus and former senate president pro tempore toni atkins signed onto the lawsuit, urging the court to strip the measure from the ballot. they wrote the amount of harm this measure could cause is vast and would hamper local government in our state's ability to function. but republican assembly minority leader james gallagher disagrees. he says the governor is trying to take away the voters ability to decide for themselves. he's fine with taking away your right to vote.
