>> now at 11, a mail carrier robbed at gunpoint and an east bay neighborhood. the crime now putting folks who live there on edge. good evening. thanks for joining us here on kron for news at 11. >> i'm noelle bellow and i'm grant lotus. it is another case of a local mail carrier being robbed. the latest incident happened in dublin kron four's. sara stinson reports. >> home security camera captures the terrifying moment. a mail carrier in dublin was robbed at gunpoint. this happened monday afternoon around 4.30, on a bespoke court video shows 2 masked men wearing all black approached the male woman. one point a gun at her dublin. police say the men demanded the carriers mailbox key and phone. you can see her go to the usps truck to get her phone and handed over. then the 2 men run off. thankfully, the male woman was not physically injured. i went down to cul-de-sac.

>> probably within 10 or 15 minutes after happen after seeing police in his neighborhood, mike grant went down to check it out. once he learned about the robbery, grant went to check his high-quality security camera system to see if it captured anything useful. >> that's when he saw what he believes to be the getaway car narrowed it down to this. a blue grants as police and the u.s. postal inspectors. investigators came by to get the video. he's lived in this dublin neighborhood for nearly 30 years and says only recently has there been a spike in crime and it's not just staying isolated in the oakland sundown towns for the, you know, vandalism or break-ins of grant says he's been talking with neighbors about ways to protect their homes, to start putting some cameras up to help. >> and alarm systems and everything like that. be a little proactive is what i'm trying tell people. as for the mail carrier grant says he's checked in on her. >> she's going to take a month off of work to emotionally

recover. you know, we're always out talking to her stuff like that. so she's kind like family. >> so i stopped by just to make sure she was ok, i let her know that we're we're all thinking about the postal service is offering $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves. i'm sara stinson reporting in dublin kron. 4 news. >> santa clara county authorities made one of the largest fentanyl seizures ever. they found 13 pounds of the deadly drug inside a san jose home under a baby's crib. authorities say they raided the home yesterday and found 25,000 fentanyl pills in a backpack. officers say they also found marijuana just a few feet away from the baby's playpen and cocaine right next to the baby's formula in the kitchen. the baby's father. 27 year-old octavian moreno and mother. 23 year-old crystal delgado are in custody.

happening tomorrow. the man accused of attempting to kill his family by driving off a cliff in san mateo county will have a final hearing and a mental health diversion court case hinges on what kind of mental health crisis divert patel was suffering from when he drove off highway one in january of last year. his wife and 2 kids were inside the car when it plunged 250 feet off a cliff. amazingly, they all survived. the judge could decide to move but tells case out of criminal court and into a mental health treatment program. if the judge rules in favor of the defense patel will be released from jail immediately. and once he completes the two-year treatment program, his record will be clear. >> quite the spectacle for people in san francisco's marina district. president biden landed on marina green shortly after 8 o'clock tonight after air force one touched down in mountain view about an hour earlier, the president is scheduled to attend a couple of

fund-raisers tomorrow. he'll be staying at the fairmont in the city tonight. and because of that california street between powell and taylor streets as well as mason between pine and sacramento are closed through tomorrow. oakland international airport has a new name and a new legal battle. port commissioners unanimously approved the rebrand to call the airport san francisco bay oakland international airport. that decision coming earlier today. kind of a long name. the new name has been getting pushback from the city of san francisco and now attorneys are involved. kron four's. dan thorn reports. >> san francisco city attorney david chiu has already sued on behalf of the city. and on wednesday he sent a letter to the port of oakland urging them to reconsider and instead have both maybe oakland and san francisco work together to come up with an alternative name. but the port of oakland moved ahead with their plans and they say that they'll also have a response to san francisco's lawsuit. there are

now 2 bay area airports with the name san francisco in their title. >> a unanimous vote by the oakland port board thursday approved the switch from oakland international airport. to san francisco bay oakland international airport. nobody owns the san francisco bay and it is the most identify identifiable geographic >> indicator. and we happen to sit on the on the san francisco bay and we just want people to know where we are so they can come enjoy our beautiful city port port president barbara lesslie, along with other commissioners, says the name change will increase the airport's visibility. >> well, also giving potential travelers more options in the bay area. and a name kings change can certainly do that. that brings that knowledge for people past the mississippi to really understand where oakland sits in the greater bay area and also internationally, really a pub understanding from people from around the world where oakland is in this greater bay area. but the city of san francisco does not want this new name to happen. a lawsuit claims that

infringes on san francisco international airport's trademark in a statement to kron for the san francisco city attorney's office says it is disappointing that oakland chose to ignore our multiple offers to collaborate an alternative names and avoid litigation. we have no choice but to move forward with next steps in our trademark lawsuit, porter attorney barry richardson has requested for a declaratory judgment as a counterclaim to the lawsuit. she hopes the court will agree that san francisco bay is a geographic term and not exclusive to the city nor county of san francisco. we were not seeking money damages with that were only seeking a declaration from the court that we can continue to use the mark that the board to support. some residents did voice their concerns before thursday's vote saying if there's going to be more air traffic, that's going to create more air pollution in the city. >> but business leaders and city leaders such as councilmember noel gallo said the name change is going to be

good for the airport in oakland, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> taking a live look now at the san mateo bridge. that's a really look like much. sometimes we see fog out there sometimes shaken because all windy. it has been very, very nice all day today. >> pretty benign right there. but elsewhere around the bay, you'll find some fog tonight and here in the fog horns and chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here after another really warm day in the bay. it sure was. but yeah, that fog has crept back onshore. tonight, a sign that ridge of high pressure starting to break down a little bit. >> and that's sea breeze making a return to see some of the clouds looking out toward the golden gate bridge. right now. we're going to see more of that in the coming days. i think, especially by tomorrow afternoon will really be watching that low cloud deck ramping up. but but it's not going affect temperatures so cooler along the coastline. 52 now it happened but 60 in pacifica, 60 in san francisco. you're still looking at 70 in brentwood. 71 in pittsburgh

and 60 degrees in napa. so the temperatures kind of all over the map right now. you get type of spread when you get these nice offshore winds. but the fog started develop late in the day. we start to see a couple of patches out there in the pacific. now we're seeing a little bit more of that. so overnight tonight, likely going to see a couple patches of fog along the coastline. daytime temperatures, though, about 88 in san jose. 83 in oakland and 74 and sunny in san francisco. >> firefighters playing a crucial role in protecting our communities. and despite progress over the years, the api community remains under represented among first responders for stephanie lin now introduces us to one organization that is working to change that. >> it's a busy day at san francisco's fire station the engine. >> trucks and rescue squad rolling out to emergencies across the city plan to keep doing it. despite these challenges, i don't quit. and

that speaks only to go for firefighter robert to representation also means being a role model when a little kid sees somebody that looks like them. >> well, i can do that. >> in august, say led a mission to maui shortly after deadly wildfires torched the things that we complain about. >> its it's miniscule, you know, these people lost their homes, lost livelihood, their living out their cars. it was eye-opening. the team assisting local fire crews to stamp out a grass fire near a relief center distributing relief supplies to families in need in times of disaster. when people see that there's a bigger response that. if the firefighters coming over really helps people understand that there's love and support for them beyond there, their local community, the department plans to make another trip back this year. you know, it takes hard to be a firefighter. you give of yourself to your colleagues to your community. what are you proudest of when it comes to

>> welcome back. big changes will soon be coming to utility bills across the state. >> the vote is 4, 0, the item passes. with that. the california public utilities commission or cpu see approved a plan to allow major utility companies, including pg and e. >> to impose a fixed charge on most of their customers bills. the plan includes a new flat fee of $24.15 per month. that fee would be $6 for low-income californians in return, the utility well, reduce electricity prices by 5 to $0.7 per kilowatt hour. supporters say the monthly fee will help pay for grid maintenance.

>> this is a fair proposal implementing a reasonable fix charge that help support the fixed costs of the grid. we commend the cpc on taking action today in support of the fixed charge. >> and because of their action today, relief is coming to californians who need it most. >> opponents of the plan, however, held a demonstration outside the meeting today. they argue the fixed charge will hurt the very people. it's supposed to help. >> i mean, that's an extra $24 that i would have to budget. it's the lower class, middle-aged disabled and you know, the the working that that they need to look out for. this isn't an elected board. and this is the first time we've seen them have the ability to be able to come in and set up the statewide. and so for me, that's the biggest concern. it's appointed by the governor not elected board and they're going to set the what to say, you know, 2 or 3 years from now, they don't continue to raise that. the it impacts the every case. every single rate payer in california.

>> the plan will go into effect in early 2026, for pg and e customers. bart's future may depend on the tax measure that is set to be on the ballot in 2026, according to bart's, new budget deficit numbers, the transit agency will be facing a 35 million dollar deficit by 2026. if passed, the tax measure would bring in more than a billion dollars every year for bart. but if it fails, bart is warning it is going to have to make some drastic cuts. >> imagine if just bart close at 09:00pm and certain stations were closed and no, no trains at all on the weekend. those are the types of things that our reality. i'm not anytime soon. we've got 2 that we know that we have funding, but then we need to focus on that ballot measure. >> but leaders say the deficit is partly due to declining tax revenues and lower ridership than expected. they say people working from home has really

hurt them. the bart board will not vote on a budget until june. in the south bay. the federal transit administration is investing 500 million dollars to fund the bart silicon valley extension project that would extend bart service by 6 miles from the berryessa transit center into downtown san jose with an underground tunnel all the way to santa clara. the project will cost about 12 billion dollars. half of that is coming from federal programs. the other half is coming from state and local money. >> let's get you a check of your 4 zone forecast tonight. taking a live look at the golden gate bridge along with carl making an appearance this evening. karl, the fog, how you've been. >> as we turn it over to lauren says looking at the rest of the weekend mother's day weekend. yeah, we're going to see more of that fog on the way to is high pressure will start to weaken a little bit, but it's going to be a slow cooldown. you're going be a little bit warmer inland tomorrow, then slowly cool down throughout the holiday

weekend. yeah, what a nice day. we had a lot of sunshine everywhere. you went in all of a sudden late in the day we start to see a couple patches of fog begin to roll back in and you see some of that across the golden gate bridge right now. it is right now on the deck. temperatures today started get a little hit. we might be in for some changes along the coastline. look at that. just a little bit cooler and a half moon bay, as the suddenly surging fog started to rotate in and then around the rest, the bay area temperatures actually warmed up about 2 to 5 degrees. but a numbers all around well above the average 81 in san francisco, 83 in oakland, 86 today in san jose. 83 in livermore. 86 in concord and 86 degrees in santa rosa tonight. mostly clear away from the immediate coastline. some mild temperatures too. tomorrow, sunny and hot inland. that fog going to keep you a little bit cooler coast side of the more fog on the way over the weekend. that will help to drop down the temperatures ever so slowly. all right. we've got the offshore flow this trying to kick in for tonight to write the coastline is breaking down. more of a sea breeze out there. high pressure building in overhead for tomorrow.

that's going to send the temperatures again to the hot side of some 90's began to pop up inland by tomorrow afternoon. so, yeah, it looks not much in the way of fog until tomorrow afternoon. then it starts rotating in and as it does will cool things down toward the beaches. temperature wise numbers going to warm side as you get to san francisco. 75 65 in the sunset. 60's along the immediate coastline inside the bay. you'll find a lot of 70's there. warming up 80's down the south bay. you're going to talk about some 90's tomorrow afternoon. more of that in the east bay, too. so you get the idea these going to be hot anywhere from the immediate coast, then starting to cool down a little bit on saturday. more cooling on mother's day on sunday. so we're going to see more of that fog on the way. just take a little bit longer for work. it's cool air further on shore. >> i think we like the warm like it. yeah. but you know, every time i say that on tv, i run into people say i love the fog. i want more fog, ok? we live along the coast because we like the fall. yeah, it is. it is nice to see karla grant. yeah. well, you can see plenty people like the rain. people like the sun, right? bag. all
