out. and so. a large group of other students distance in solidarity, kind of enjoying the exit. >> protesters interrupt graduation ceremonies and uc berkeley over the war between israel and hamas and another night of aurora borealis in the bay area. the best ways to see it as kron. 4 news at 10 starts right now. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn. we begin with a breaking story tonight. a 5 year-old boy has been taken to the hospital after he was found submerged in an east bay cove contra. costa county fire says the young boy was recovered in the water off of bethel island. crews rushing to the scene earlier this evening after the boy was reported missing by his family. the rescue swimmer eventually found him submerged in the sacramento san joaquin river. delta, about 25 minutes after the call. first one out the boy was taken to a local first responders on scene say this is a reminder of the potential dangers for young children near the water.

>> this is the first really warm day so far this year. so parents and adults who are watching children need to keep constant visual contact with the children. and when the child is by the water, they need to be wearing a life vest and where that life vest correctly, people who are by the water should be wearing a life vest because if you fall and it only takes one gulp of water to submerge and round. >> firefighters say he was visiting his grandparents when he was first reported missing. details about how the boy ended up in the water have not been released. ocon fire spokesperson says a language barrier has made it difficult to get information about what happened. we'll keep you updated as we learn more information. in other news tonight, thousands of students at uc berkeley graduated today, but it wasn't without students protesting the ongoing war in gaza. this comes as the student protesters camping for weeks down, say they continue to negotiate with the university on their requests. kron four's

jack moment reports. while thousands of students around uc berkeley are graduating this weekend, many students here at the un, kevin at sproul plaza say they want to march to so that they are disapproving of the university's negotiations with their demands. >> saturday evening on uc berkeley's campus, a similar site. >> but this time. the cops dirt graduation. we've been out here for a while and there goes a scissor back and forth and universities not negotiating in good favor. doctorate student giannis khosla. they organized a walkout during commencement and during a negotiating meeting with the university. they let from the university had been talking about taking statements in the commencement. >> to meet our first amending the silence. but the statement was very double sided. and so we were making a presence outside of today's session. berkeley told kron 4 in a statement it would not discuss

the parameters of possible negotiations with protesters which have been camped here for nearly 3 weeks. >> it was very disruptive. it was very loud. you can hear through the audio. uc berkeley went on to say that it is looking to close down the encampment, quote, our priority remains on bringing the encampment to a peaceful at protecting the physical safety of the campus community. >> and ensuring there is no disruption of university new messages show up at the encampment for recent grads. students like cash flow say there are proud to be part of cows. history of student activists. so we're just living up to the standards of this university. and expect more from the night from the administration, big topic of discussion here at this encampment is with summer on its way where all the students go. many of the organizers tell me that they are in talks now to see if they could potentially have as a last past this spring semester for now run uc berkeley's campus jack moment kron 4 news. >> tomorrow, jewish and non-jewish students are holding an interfaith rally

against terror. >> organizers say they will be condemning the widespread support of terrorism on campuses as well as demanding stanford enforce school policy and ensure student safety. the meeting on stanford's campus from 02:00pm to 04:00pm at white plaza. ucla has reopened dixon plaza to the public after limiting access amid pro-palestinian protests, public safety personnel will remain in the affected areas. according to an alert sent out by the university. but otherwise the campus is returning to normal operations. the reopening comes after weeks of limited access after pro-palestinian protesters and pro-israeli protesters confronted each other on the westwood campus. the protests and rallies continue as the un general assembly has voted to give palestinians new rights and privileges and he's urging the security council to reconsider its request to become the 100 94th member. 9 countries, including the united states and israel voted against the measure. this comes as a

opd a chief is the 14th in the last decade. mitchell began his career with the kansas city police department in missouri and also served as police chief in temple, texas, as well as lubbock, texas. he says, although he is an outsider, he's already feeling at home in oakland and looks forward to getting to work. now to a big story we're following tonight. the world is currently under a geomagnetic storm warning sounds kind of scary, but it's kind of cool looking and it keeps setting off large amounts of energy. that's the sun, which is creating these extreme conditions. this level of storm hasn't been seen since 2003 and it has the power to disrupt cell phone networks, gps satellites, internet services and power grids. but last night, all the i's work to the sky as the aurora borealis doesn't normally come around here and from new zealand to here in the bay area. these are from mount tam. we were able to check this out. we stayed up until about 3 in the morning to capture all these pictures.

you can see the clouds this year from the east bay. yeah, you want to go as far east as possible. if you want to see those northern lights are trying to and there's a chance. temperatures out the door pretty chilly in the low 50's in san francisco. 55 in oakland, livermore in the 60's in that 50's. and here's that change. so we're seeing 10 degrees down in san francisco. we have that onshore flow back. so the seabreeze is cooling us down. but tomorrow will be a pleasant day for the holiday. we will see temperatures range from the upper 50's to 80's inland, mostly sunny skies. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. a driver. >> crashes their car into an auto repair shop in marin county. this happen sandra felt the jr auto body yesterday morning. police say the driver may have suffered from a medical emergency causing this crash to happen. they were taken to a local hospital. as of right now. we don't know the condition of the driver. the oldest park ranger in the u.s. gets an honorary doctorate. reid soskin retired from the u.s.

pick-up truck are now facing several gun and drug charges. livermore police say they got a call from a woman just after midnight on wednesday. she told police she was concerned about a prospective buyer who wanted to view her pickup truck. but late at night, police arrived to find a potential buyer park near the woman's home. the officers then searched the car and they found meth, heroin and a gun. both of those men were from oakland. they were taken into custody. and sandra fell newly-installed flock cameras helped police track down a stolen car. police say the van which was stolen from the battle was spotted early this morning driving into downtown sandra fell. the suspected thief was later arrested and found with a revolver in their possession. you can see the gun right there. the driver is now and a marine county jail. more than 2000 pot plants and 100 pounds of processed marijuana were seized at a santa clara county property near the san bernardino county line, a special unit with the santa clara county sheriff's

in even farther inland. so you notice livermore and stopped in maybe fe looks like the better spots for viewing the northern hopefully you get a chance to get out there and then you can notice a sunday morning. we still have the clouds sticking around along the coastline and bay things start to clear out towards the afternoon, mostly sunny inland and by the coast, you could see more clouds. so of typical summer-like set up here. and then this is simply similar situation for monday. so you can see mostly sunny inland. but for the holiday, you know, we have a wide range of temperatures. we have 80's inland 70's 80's by the day, 50's over by the beaches and the coast. and, you know, just watch out for that cool coastal fog. if you want some warm temperatures head inland and it's going to be another warm and very pleasant. we'll see 90's like we saw. so here's somehow the way here, as you can see your full seven-day forecast. so we have 80's inland for the next couple of days. 70's by the bay and more seasonable averages along the coast as

kron 4 news at 10. now to the latest in rafah says israel is expanding its military operations. >> this coming after weeks of international opposition and warnings in in in an israeli invasion would humanitarian efforts. news nation's robert sherman is in tel aviv with the latest. >> landscaping, gaza changing tonight with new evacuation orders coming down from the idf tonight up to this point, the focus has been on eastern rafah and the area surrounding the rafah crossing that red circle on your screen is the new set of zones to be evacuated closer to the heart of rafah. people could be seen leaving those areas. today is

hadn't mostly clear skies last night. so that was a great night for viewing. but tonight you may have to travel far inland away from city lights, maybe livermore concord probably a stockton, too. so here is the view from the east bay hills. you can see already socked in tonight. and let's take a look at your future cast model here. and we're pretty quiet now. but yeah, you can see the clouds on that satellite view. so here's eleven-thirty. yeah, we we have the fog rolling in and then even around the bay by oakland. this is 02:00am could see some coastal drizzle as well. so even our north bay valleys, santa rosa and napa even farther east here, too. so towards the east bay shoreline. so, you know, you may want to go far out read more, andy towards antioch and possibly stockton to even the south bay looks like getting some valley fog early tomorrow morning. and then we do see some cloudy skies over by the coast and around the bay,

program like is and her family are among the first of 23 family set to move into their homes next on friday during the nonprofits, 8th annual women's leadership volunteers joined for the first of 2 days, constructing walls for phase 2 of the project, which is scheduled for completion next year. training 19 homes for the rest of this development will be 42 homes here when we're down. and these women's leadership older more than just an event with weather and pandemic related construction delays, these volunteers are essential to completing this project to work. they're taking it to the level. there's nothing like being able to be part of building your home with so much love. i don't know many people that are able to see. >> say i built this house from the from the ground the second day of the event is next. friday and applications are still being accepted for the homes under construction for

around the sun. it's why health and wellness director heidi gallagher wanted to do something special for bob on miller. >> he's kind of quiet. but when you engage him, he's has a really wicked personality. he's very sweet. and we really enjoy having him here in our community. all miller wasn't exactly thrilled about the attention, ok, answering a few questions for the news or to get the attention of the now. but he did let his grandson, alex on miller twig sing his praises. i think for me it's more how we chose to live his life with and his family and the people around him. the 107 year-old with a staff sergeant in the army during world war 2, he was stationed in europe and even fought in the battle of the bulge. a little chapter of u.s. history. refreshing to speak with somebody who >> literally lived in an era that is is gone and that he can still speak to that and explain what happened day to you. joined by his family
