>> news station, this is home. 11. now at 11, a rescue swimmer pulls a 5 year-old boy from the water. nearly 30 minutes after he was reported missing. >> in the delta. good evening and thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn. we're continuing to follow that developing news out of the east bay tonight with that 5 year-old boy had been taken to the hospital after he was found submerged in the sacramento san joaquin river contra. costa county fire says the boy was recovered in the water off of bethel island. crews rushing to the scene earlier this evening after the boy was reported missing by his

family. a rescue swimm r eventually found him submerged in the river about 25 minutes after the call went out, cpr was performed on the boy who was then taken to the hospital. first responders on scene say this is a reminder of the potential dangers for young children near the water. >> this is the first really warm day so far this year. so parents and adults who are watching children need to keep constant visual contact with the children. and when the child is by the water, they need to be wearing a life vest and where that life vest correctly, people who are by the water should be wearing a life vest because if you fall and it only takes one gulp of water to submerge and round. >> that child is at the hospital. we still don't know their current conditions. we're going to be sure to update you with the very latest on air and online at kron 4 dot com. in other news tonight, thousands students at uc berkeley graduated today, but it did not happen without

students protesting the ongoing war in gaza. and this comes as student protesters have been camping there for weeks and they say they're continuing to negotiate with the university on their requests. kron four's jack moment reports. while thousands of students around uc berkeley are graduating this weekend, many students here at the un, kevin at sproul plaza say they want to march to so that they are disapproving of the university's negotiations with their demands. >> saturday evening on uc berkeley's campus, a similar site. >> but this time. the cops dirt graduation. we've been out here for a while and there goes a scissor back and forth and universities not negotiating in good favor. doctorate student giannis khosla. they organized a walkout during commencvment and during a negotiating meeting with the university. they let from the university had been talking about taking statements in the commencement. >> to meet our first amending

the silence. but the statement was very double sided. and so we were making a presence outside of today's session. berkeley told kron 4 in a statement it would not discuss the parameters of possible negotiations with protesters which have been camped here for nearly 3 weeks. >> it was very disruptive. it was very loud. you can hear through the audio. uc berkeley went on to say that it is looking to close down the encampment, quote, our priority remains on bringing the encampment to a peaceful at protecting the physical safety of the campus community. >> and ensuring there is no disruption of university new messages show up at the encampment for recent grads. students like cash flow say there are proud to be part of cows. history of student activists. so we're just living up to the standards of this university. and expect more from the night from administration, big topic of discussion here at this encampment is with summer on its way where all the students go. many of the organizers tell me that they are in talks

now to see if they could potentially have as a last past this spring semester for now run uc berkeley's campus jack moment kron 4 news. >> the protest at uc berkeley comes as many colleges are tion >> i made those cancellations. pro-palestinian protesters continue to clash with police on campus. students carrying palestinian flags were escorted out of the commencement address at the university of wisconsin just a day after those protesters agreed to dismantle their encampment and not disrupt graduation. meanwhile, on friday morning, police arrested 33 people in an encampment at the university of pennsylvania. the student newspaper reporting police in riot gear gave a 2 minute warning before clearing out the encampment. police say only 9 of those arrested were actually students. and then an escalation between protesters and counter demonstrators at mit led to police arresting around 10 people. university

officials say they tried to clear the encampment peacefully before calling police. be sure to stay with kron 4 on air and online for the latest on the war between israel and hamas, the campus demonstrations and also the conflict on the ground in gaza. be sure to head to our website kron 4 dot com for more. now to another big story we're following tonight. the world is currently under a geomagnetic storm warning the sun keep setting off large amounts of energy, creating extreme conditions. this level of storm hasn't been seen since 2003 and he's got the power to disrupt cell phone networks, gps satellites, internet services and power grids. but last night, all the eyes are the to the sky because of the aurora borealis. you don't normally get to see this. and from new zealand to right here in the bay area. this is a pictures from mount tam state up late last night. check this out. kind of tough to see with the naked eye but long exposure. photographs on your iphone.

foggy. we're looking lights and a lot of cars out on the roads along. joining us with a look at what to expect a gale. hello last night was the perfect night for viewing because we have mostly clear skies. >> tonight we have more cloudy skies, especially along the coast. so that is not where you want to be tonight. if you want to view the northern here is where we are right now and visibility and good night. >> yeah, you can see may be your best bet. might be fremont. san jose livermore. and here is 03:00am. so as you make your way farther inland here, down all the way back to stockton, looks like the better time. better day. time of day night early morning. so that is going to ground until the morning and then we will clear out in mostly sunny skies tomorrow for mother's day. so if you are by the coast, will be a little cooler in the 50's and we have that coastal fog as well. warm inland, mostly sunny skies. so we'll be in the 80's not really 90's, though. so be much more comfortable. and the low 80's for inland

communities. and i'll have that 7 day forecast when it come back. >> all right. thanks a lot. oakland's new police chief started today fort mitchell's tenure comes oakland has been without a top cop for more than a year. he's opd 14 chief in the last decade, mitchell began his career with the kansas city police department in missouri and also served as police chief in temple, texas, as well as lubbock, texas. he says, although he's an outsider, he's already feeling at home here in the bay area and he's looking forward to getting to work. alameda county district attorney pamela price is taking on major car insurance companies. the da is suing progressive in usa, a among other insurers over an alleged scheme. according to the lawsuit, the insurance companies have been working with software developers to undervalue totaled cars. da price filed the 69 page civil complaint that accuses the companies of using special software men to lowball settlement offers to customers. in a statement, price says her office is

tonight and tomorrow we've got a chance to see them again. experts are saying tonight's probably a better plan. so here's a look at some more pictures from actually right here in california. this was taken over lake berryessa earlier this morning. it's in the napa area right? some recommended locations closer to the bay area would probably be like mount diablo or like going even farther inland. you can get a good look at these images you know, you can't really see it that well with the naked eye, you take a picture use the long exposure. that's the key. if you've got like professional camera equipment you want to put like a dslr night mode and then you can do long exposure that way. and you get beautiful pictures like this. so of course, we're talking about the sky. we're going to talk about the forecast. taking a look at san francisco international airport tonight. just the typical lights that you see there almost every night at sfo, bu. all right. well, gayle, what's happening with the weather? >> well, we have more cloudy skies tonight, though. last night was great. we have mostly clear skies and you do

have some awesome pictures over in the north bay. well, we if you were at that and solar energy tonight, so you can see canada. i do have family in canada in chicago and they have some pictures with the green and the peak. but for us, you know, you got to be farther inland, as you can see across the bay area. >> we have we're socked in of the clouds. san jose looks like a clear spot and here's the future cast model. so this is an hour from now. this is after midnight. notice the coastline here we have the clouds rolling in and through the golden gate gap towards oakland. and you notice we're mostly clear towards livermore and conquered so that maybe i already know people are out there in place hoping to catch a glimpse of that. so here's 02:00am. could see some coastal drizzle by the beaches pacifica and half moon bay and notice. we still have that cloud cover hanging out by the bay. so your best bet is to be traveling far inland away from the city and the coastline with the clouds are fear and higher elevation. of course,

we'll get a better chance. so hopefully, you know, if out there, you get something. so i'm here is a 04:00am as well. so you notice the clouds will be sticking around for your mother's day sunday around the coast and the peninsula and some parts of the bay will will be sunny, mostly inland. as you can see here. and this is our lunch time hour or so. you're in the yeah. if you're in the half moon bay, it will be a little cloudy as you can see, has similar set up for your sunday night and into monday where the clouds roll in and then we clear out inland in the afternoon. so here are the daytime highs for tomorrow. we will be as hot as we have been over the last few days. i don't see 90's in the forecast. we do see the 80's upper 70's and 60's and upper 50's over by the coast over there. so here's your 7 day outlook. we will be sticking around with this warming trend. as you can see, we're holding on to the 80's inland 70's by the bay and thence more seasonable averages over by the coast. so, you know, very pleasant weather. we're in springs that we have that warm. i don't see a lot of

rain in the forecast just yet. but stay tuned. you know, spring, we're talking about snow last week. had a low heat it's like it's going to be hot. so lucky you exactly. haha. all right. thank you, >> a driver unfortunately crashed their car into an auto repair shop in marin county is happening. >> sandra fell ajr auto body yesterday morning. police say the driver may have suffered from a medical emergency causing the crash. they were taken to a local as of right now. we don't know the condition that driver also in sandra fell newly-installed flock cameras helped police track down a stolen car. police say the van stolen from nevado was spotted early this morning driving into downtown sandra fell. the suspected thief was later arrested and found with this revolver in their possession. the driver is now in the marin county jail. more than 2000 plants and 100 pounds of processed marijuana were seized. a santa
