dell curry's gear. so for all, and now thanks to funny. i will go to the south bay that where protesters are rallying outside of google's headquarters in mountain view today. they are calling on the company to divest from israel. all this happening during the company's i o conference where the company is announcing new products and innovations kron 4 s charles clifford joins us now live from mountain view with what happened there today. thanks for joining us. >> good afternoon. what? yeah, this morning there were several groups of protesters outside the google headquarters. they are upset about the conflict in gaza between hamas and israel and they're calling on google to end a controversial partnership with the israeli government. several 100 protesters gathered on the sidewalks outside google tuesday morning. they have chosen to be here this week because google is hosting a developers conference with thousands in attendance at nearby shoreline amphitheater. protesters on tuesday did block one of the entrances to that event. but attendees were

able to get in through other ways. these protesters are particularly worried about what's known as project nimbus. a cloud computing effort by the israeli government in partnership with google and amazon. they are worried that the technology could be used against civilians in gaza for things like surveillance or facial recognition. and they're calling on google to leave that project. >> message that we're trying send here is when the innovations and the beautifully and not things that are valley are to harm people. that's not ok. we will not now on tuesday, we did reach out to google for comment but have so far not heard back. all right, back live now of the protests have wrapped up for the day, but that developers conference conference will probably let out soon, which means there could be some traffic delays in and around the shoreline amphitheater. the google area. >> but for now, in mountain view, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank you. >> there are 50 former google

employees have now filed an official complaint against the company for unlawful termination. this is coming in response to the employees holding a sit-in and those protests that happened at the go. google offices in sunnyvale in new york. they were protesting a 1.2 billion dollar deal known as project need this that provides artificial intelligence technology to israel. the work filed a complaint saying google unlawfully retaliated against them. the national relations board has not yet set a time table for reviewing this case. and these pro-palestine demonstrators who set up an encampment at the university of san francisco have until 3 o'clock today to clear out or face repercussions. the university says the encampment on wellfield violates the school's code of conduct. and while the school does not plan to clear out the encampment, students remain past. that deadline could face this disciplinary action. the demonstrators are demanding that the schools a disclosed

all financial investments in israel's military and pull those investments. the encampment has been set up since the beginning of the month and we're going to check in with our reporter who's on campus right now for a live report at 3 o'clock. so we can get the latest on this developing situation. also, a muslim rights organization is sounding the alarm on university leaders saying that they have enabled anti palestinian racism. new report from the council on american islamic relations breaks down these incidents and what universities have reportedly failed to protect pro-palestinian protesters going all the way back to november. the report cites incidents where universities deployed law enforcement officers to break up the protest and allegedly suspended groups advocating for palestine care says it received a total of more than 900 complaints of education discrimination last year. arbitrary school policies are being wielded against students who are pro palestine or student groups who are pro

palestine in a way that reinforces that palestine exception making gates. >> you know, the making it impossible or making it difficult for students to express create free speech in support of palestine. in its report care also outlines recommendations for university officials, including negotiating with the student protesters, unquote. good faith. >> and ensuring complaint against palestinian arab and muslim students are taken seriously. so chaotic moments at an event hosted by a jewish author disrupted by pro-palestine protesters. this video posted by the jewish community relations council. they say protesters followed attendees shouted profanities and hit them with glass bottles that were filled with fake blood. the event took place in oakland last wednesday, which was whole class remembrance day. the j c r c says this event was focused on holocaust remembrance, not israel event. organizers have reported the

specializing in san francisco ground floor space. >> especially around union square. coming up on kron, 4 news at 3 o'clock mcavoy says despite the loss of sure, even macy's on the square. the data shows business is coming back with several high-end brands opening up new stores in san francisco. theresa kron. 4 news. >> some developing news now as the national highway traffic safety administration has launched an investigation into the waymo self-driving cars. the agency getting 22 reports of waymo cars either crashing or doing something that may have violated traffic laws the h t s a says the probe will look at the system's performance in detecting and responding to traffic control devices. waymo plans to work with the agency during this investigation. amazon self-driving robotaxi also under investigation after 2 of its vehicles braked suddenly which caused the crash. both

kron. 4 >> the san jose fire department says a fire at a buddhist temple does not appear to be suspicious. investigators believe that someone cooking outside of the temple started this fire, which cause significant damage to the building. the temple is located on fossan alum. rock avenue is just off of 6 ad. it started at about 8 o'clock last night. 4 people were displaced because of the fire and they will have to stay at another buddhist temple in san jose. in the meantime. police in san mateo say they're seeing a spike in car break-ins all involving a specific car brand last week. police received 17 calls about car break-ins, all of them involving hondas. the model's most targeted are the civics accord cincy arby's all were 2015 models or newer. the break-ins all happening within a specific area of san mateo just south of highway. 92, the thieves. police say are after specific parts and they might be trying to resell them.

innocent of these charges. speaker mike johnson was among a group of lawmakers who spent time in court tuesday supporting the former president and outside of the courthouse. he railed against the case and the testimony from trump's former lawyer michael cohen. this is a man who is clearly on a mission. >> for personal revenge and who is widely known as a witness who has tiouble with the truth. cohen told the jury former president trump was directly involved with the hush money scheme to bury damaging news stories ahead of the 2016 election on tuesday. he testified about business records that he says showed reimbursements for those hush money payments. that's central to the case because trump is charged with falsifying business records by illegally listing the payments as legal expenses. a in the afternoon, trump's defense team grilled cohen during cross examination. they're trying to show that cohen can't be trusted and that is allegations about the former

>> students protesting at the university of san francisco on the campus. there have until 3 o'clock this afternoon to clear out their tent encampment. the students are calling for a cease-fire in gaza and for usf to divest from israel. kron four's rob nesbitt is live now for us on campus with more on the protesters plans, we can still see there pretty much set up there. so do you think they'll be out of there by 3 o'clock? >> they're still hear justine. and you can see behind me, they're about 60 tense that i've counted here on welsh field at usf campus and students here protesting don't plan on going anywhere. despite warnings from the university, the students have been here for 15 days. they started the tent encampment after seeing other

universities such as uc berkeley protest the war in gaza calling on usf to divest all money from israel or any to israel in the war against hamas. the university has been in talks with protesters and says they have been working to keep an open dialogue. but protesters were also given a deadline of 03:00pm this afternoon to clear the tent encampment off the welsh field. a statement from usf saying, quote, the 03:00pm may 14th deadline in which we asked students to voluntarily vacate welsh field in exchange for amnesty, refers to an internal disciplinary process led by the uss office of student conduct. there are no plans to clear the encampment or involve law enforcement as long as the encampment is peaceful and non violent. i talked to one student about what that means. >> bass says the suspension or explosion. so you are at risk of being suspended or expelled. and we just think that's a scare tactic. we think that we understand that we have so much power as a collective of what we did

here. >> either encampment has been really unifying for all of us. >> graduation for usf is scheduled for this weekend. i talked to that student about if they plan on staying here even after graduation and they say they will do that if their demands are not met. now, students have also planned a rally here at 03:00pm in about a half an hour to continue. their protests will be live at that rally coming up on kron. 4 news at 03:00pm reporting live at usf. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. all right, rob, we'll check in with you then. thank you so much. >> new now to the state of california has seized more than 61 million dollars in illegal cannabis during the first 4 months of 2024, this includes more than 62,000 licensed cannabis plants. and more than 36,000 pounds of unlicensed cannabis products. the governor's office says the seizures were the result of operations throughout the state. officers also recovered

11 firearms and made 5 arrests. the san francisco district attorney's office has convicted armon bassett for punching an east bay man and stealing his cell phone in san francisco's mission bay neighborhood. according to testimony, a group of friends was crossing the 4th street bridge hannel street when they say bassett sprinted towards the victim and sucker punched him after a brief struggle. bassett, then they say stole the victim's phone and ran away. so bassett has now been convicted of one count of second-degree robbery and one count of battery. he faces up to 5 years in state prison. san jose police are asking for the public's help to locate a assault suspect. police say on april 9th, a young girl walking home from school was pulled under a freeway overpass and then sexually assaulted. investigators say the 50 year-old julian salvador martinez was the attacker and he was riding a dark-coloured bicycle. the girl managed to fight him off, but he got away

on the bike. martinez is described as being 5 foot. 11 inches tall has dark hair and a thin mustache is pictured here. anyone with information should contact san jose police. now over the weekend. customers at a san francisco cafe stopped a man from taking off with the woman's laptop kron four's. sara stinson spoke with one of the people who prevented that fact. >> police say a man ran into this cafe, grabbed a laptop and ran right outside was a man named henry flynn who tackled the alleged thief to the ground and held him there until police arrived. security cameras thankfully cut the whole thing on video. unfortunately, we did not get permission to use it. it literally felt like everyone inside the cafe was screaming. henry flynn was enjoying a cup of coffee outside sanaa cafe saturday evening when he says he saw a man running out with a laptop. flynn works as a security guard. so he says it fell natural to take matters into his own hands. i saw someone running out with a

hood. >> with a lot of talk in the right hand, almost like a football player would run with the football. i think the momentum of him running in opposite direction of my arm, pushing him in another direction, made him stumble over towards one of the cars. that was part. and then i had the ability jump on top of him. this video from frisco live 4, 1, 5, shows san francisco police arresting a 19 year-old man and flynn talking with officers afterwards about what happened. flynn learned from police that the man had snatched a laptop from a woman sitting inside who thinks to flynn and others got it back. >> did you speak to the woman who is left of? it was afterwards. i they're really cool. husband or boyfriend. >> yeah, actually, i my phone that tracked what i was runnina after the guys. so they like the minimum. can we just venmo you a little bit of money? just so you can get your phone fixed and i would because not really too worried about that. this video has circulated on social media. people are now calling flynn a hero, but he humbly disagrees. most people want to do the

right thing. it just takes one person to really. >> i get ahead of it and everyone else will follow. flynn is a fourth-generation san franciscan who is fundraising to run for mayor this november. see myself as representing the silent majority, the city, which is the working class in bread and butter the city. i think what we need right now is the same way what happened at that cafe where everyone came together. >> we need that citywide. we need everyone coming together who's invested in the heart and soul of the root system of the city like myself. the man accused of the laptop theft was booked into jail and charged with grand theft and second-degree burglary. >> i'm sara stinson reporting back to you. >> just into the kron, 4 news room, the 5 year-old boy who drowned in the east bay saturday afternoon has now been identified by the contra costa county coroner's office. officials say that lucas sang from livermore drowned at bethel island in the northeast, part of contra costa county after receiving a report of a missing child. deputies then responded to the

delta coves drive area. and lucas was located in the water about 40 minutes later, he was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. and as the temperatures start to warm up across the bay area, officials are saying it is very important to stay village and around the water. this weekend, there were multiple reports of people drowning, including this 5 year-old boy who's just been identified by the name of lucas zang. there's also a mother who died in stanislaus county after trying to save her 11 year-old daughter in the san joaquin river. several organizations are using what happened this weekend to highlight water safety as rivers are moving very fast with freezing cold temperatures because the snow is starting to mount. have a flotation on your body when you're in or near that cold water. >> staying out of the current really aware of where you are in relation to fast-moving current.

>> cal oes fire and rescue says if you're ever around someone who is turning, you should just call 9-1-1 immediately and then try to reach the person with a rope. our poll, our try throwing a floating device towards them, do not try to go into the water yourself because >> there have been multiple drownings involving more than one person due to failed rescue attempts. in the north bay. law enforcement in solano county. now looking for an inmate who walked away from a conservation camp. so they say the james zhang. was serving a seven-year sentence for robbery and other charges. he was last seen on the campgvounds wearing a gray sweatshirt and pants. police are asking anyone with information to contact them immediately. there's a new warning this afternoon from the fbi and the department of homeland security about potential threats ahead of pride month. they say foreign terrorist groups like isis might exploit increased gatherings associated with the lgbtq+ community. the fbi is

urging law enforcement and the public to report violent threats made online or in person and they say to watch out for suspicious activity like someone taking photographs of addresses out or exits of any venue or anyone asking about security or crowd sizes without any explanation. a major setback in the effort to stop public money from going towards the stadium in las vegas. this proposed ballot measure written by the nevada teachers union will not be appearing during the next election. kron four's dan kerman explains why. when nevada lawmakers approved spending 380 million dollars in public money to help fund a stadium in las vegas last june. >> the nevada teachers union took steps to reverse that decision by putting the issue to a public vote this november. now that won't happen. the nevada supreme court upheld a lower court ruling that the proposed ballot measure was not written correctly and petition signatures can not be gathered

until it's read and to comply with state law fighting billionaires is never easy. this is just minor setback. alexander marks with the teachers union schools over stadium says the ruling means the measure won't appear on this november's ballot because now there are only 44 days left to rewrite the petition and then collect the 102,000 signatures with no state elections in 2025. that means the next chance for a public vote is november of 2026. but schools over stadiums remains undeterred. this still remains incredibly unpopular locally. it's still under water. 20%. >> you know, preventing the teachers from going out there to ensure every student has a high-quality public education is probably not going help with their polling either. but, you know, we we remain committed to try and help fix the misguided priorities of the state. so not much has really changed. in a statement, the attorney who represents the coalition opposing the ballot measure, which includes the a's, was pleased with the ruling saying all nevadans have a right to

>> the first museum dedicated to fabric art in the country is now in danger of closing for nearly 50 years. the san jose museum of quilt and textiles has showcased art from all over the region and from around the world. but as kron 4 jack molmud tells us the museum is now racing against the clock in order to keep its doors open. >> we're the first museum in the country to focus on tax how arts. and that's a very, very unique bureau of other museums along the south side of san jose's downtown. >> it may be easy to miss. i think we're really incredible resource for the community. but for san jose museum of quote and textiles, director chris johnson, his museum hits above its weight class. i'm here to reason you'll see kind of the extent of what could be done with fibers. we like the

future, our local artists here because we have an incredible history of fiber arts here in the bay area. different are from different artist from san jose. and the far all handmade in fiber. but after nearly 50 years in san jose sofa district, the vibrant and historic exhibit inside the museum may go away for good. unfortunately, due to the pandemic. >> and kind of the changing face of philanthropy. we just haven't been able raise the resources that we need to continue operating the way we would like to. he said the museum needs $300,000 by the summer. >> the funding that we're asking for u.s. help support the staff. we need to operate the museum. it's to help pay our mortgage. yeah. and this my first time here in julian swanson came down from san francisco. have to be able be here. little donation to them helping keep supporting local art. he says keeping arts alive in the bay has been a struggle. feel like it's difficult. you know what the

everybody. here's a look at the east bay shoreline there. a little bit of hazy sky conditions as we start to welcome in the fog back again. temperature check. how about these apples? 84 in iraq at this hour now. 79 livermore. 76 going on for concord. and even looking at 72 for hayward. so we've got a lot of nice warming. the league's gotten fremont at 79. not too shabby either. 65 meanwhile, for opens, you can see the problem area where the fog was. this is where it lifted off later in the day. and in terms of that mechanical energy kind of cost. also, we have the onshore winds that kept temperatures down, which will continue to see lows tonight with fog coming back again in the mid to lower 50's futurecast for we do have a little flair up happening in the mountains today as it comes in from the east. but more important going forward. yeah, here's the fog again tomorrow morning. sure. relatively quiet doesn't do much. there. okay. then we go back to our side on thursday. this is what screening us thursday morning. some drizzle making its way a little bit inland. you can see up there on the north bay here getting

promising the prosecution will be relentless. >> if you threaten to harm or kill an election worker, volunteer or official, the justice department will find you. >> part of the reason this is making news again, the new survey showing that more than half the election workers in the country are worried about their safety. and with the november election just months away, there is concern that angry sometimes dangerous political partisanship. well only escalate 3 years ago. the justice department created what it calls the election threats. task force among the 17 prosecutions and 13 convictions. since then, election threats. task force has secured the guilty plea of a man who threatened an election worker in michigan. the defendant made vile threats saying that the election workers deserve a quote. >> wrote to the knife, we secured a 3 and a half year prison sentence for a man in
