price, the alameda county board of supervisors have the option of choosing a special election this summer or to put the issue on the november ballot. >> they voted tonight to hold that recall election during the general election on november. 5th, nearly 100 people showed up for public comment ahead of the supervisors. vote today. prices opponents pushed for a special election in august or september or arguing the public safety is at risk. the longer she remains d a price and her supporters, however, wanted to wait until november to avoid any extra cost to taxpayers. prosecutors alliance action is among prices supporters. its executive director issued a statement saying in part, quote, we are glad that today the board of supervisors decided to do the right thing and save taxpayers millions by putting the recall election on the november ballot. this will ensure the most voters possible will have their voice heard in this important decision about the future of public safety in the county.

da price has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow morning at 10:00am in oakland. kron. 4 will be listening in and we will bring you her statement on the kron. 4 morning news. another big story we're following bay area universities pushing back against student protesters for weeks now. encampments and popped up on campuses across the bay area with students demanding the university has cut ties with there. >> israeli relations, 3 week-long encampment, uc berkeley ended today as 2 other university set deadlines for students to clear up their tents. this is what's left of that encampment at cow. students had been camping out for more than 3 weeks outside sproul hall. but the chancellor sent out a letter today saying the school leaders had reached an agreement with demonstrators. she says the university will create a committee to look over investments in israel adding they will not be able to fully divest from those investments, but they will look into weapons manufacturing and surveillance industries. student protesters at san francisco state also

reached an agreement with the administration. there after more than 2 weeks of demonstrating the group announced tonight the school's president and other leaders committed to divest from weapons manufacturers and create a workforce to develop new screenings for those investments. the student protesters have scheduled a news conference for tomorrow afternoon. however, it's a different story in the south bay school leaders at san jose state university gave students camping out there until 6 o'clock tonight to clear their tense. but those demonstrators are still there tonight. kron 4 jack molmud joins us live from san jose state where students say they have no plans of clearing out any time soon. jack. >> yeah, kinda know. well, that's right. this encampment now is officially more than a day old. but like you said, it wasn't supposed to last that long with school administration asking students here to pack up and leave by 06:00pm this evening. now, as you can see behind me about obviously didn't happen. but students now have a tall task at hand convincing the school

administration to abide by their demands by graduation next week. >> what started as daytime sit san jose state's campus is now a 24 7 encampment. >> because i understand that our campus is very silent and complicit with not only genocide, but also as 9 isn't. >> around 70 protesters asking the university to abide by their demands. professor of justice studies saying kill is the advise it for some of the students here. the students in solidarity each other decided to launch a popular university for gaza. and students say their first night the sprinklers turned forcing them to clean up some of their camp. the university tells us, though, the sprinklers are turned off now as long as the students are camping here and another point of contention is tony smith, the 1960, at olympia who famously raised his fist and the support of human rights posted an instagram, his support for the protesters said as a state. on

the other hand, says they for the opposite from smith and the other olympians there, john. carlos, i do think that makes the administration a little bit nervous about this encampment, even existing so close to graduation. meantime, back on campus, the deadline to move out has passed. no police and no forcing out. saying kill says she wants to keep advocating for her students. so that's why i risk my own skin in order to protect their right to free speech and academic freedom to speak out against this genocide. >> i spoke with san jose state who tells me about a lot of these students now are in violation of the student code of conduct and what possible punishments can look like remains to be seen. i'm told by the school with graduation so close around the corner. for now reporting live on san jose state's campus. jack moment. kron 4 news. >> jack, thank you. in san francisco, students at usf

were also given a deadline by school leaders to leave their encampments or face consequences. and just like in san jose state, they instead held a rally today. kron four's grant lotus here in the studio with reaction from some of those students. grant divide. students are talking about welsh field here behind me at usf where student protesters, as you can see, have set up a decent size encampment there. >> the school's graduation is saturday. so that's a looming. and students say they're going to stay here and they say that encampment could be there beyond graduation. if their demands are not met. students remains unfazed this afternoon despite the school's threat of repercussions, if they didn't clear out by 03:00pm. >> says the suspension or explosion. so you are at risk of being suspended or expelled. and we just think that's a scare tactic. we think that we understand that we have so much power as a collective of what we did here. >> either encampment has been really unifying for all of us.

>> the university has been in talks with protesters in says they have been working to try to keep an open dialogue. in a statement, they say there are no plans to clear the encampment or involve law enforcement as long as that encampment is peaceful, nonviolent. we'll keep you posted. well back to you. thank you. grant. meanwhile, congressional aides at the white the biden administration is setting a new package of >> more than a billion dollars to israel and its war against hamas in gaza. they say the package includes about 700 million dollars for tank ammunition and 500 million for tactical vehicles. they did not say when those weapons would be sent. stay with kron 4 on air and online for the latest information on the israel and hamas war from campus protest to the conflict on the ground and to our website kron 4 dot com. >> highway one in big sur is reopening to traffic this friday. part of a highway collapsed in late march following one of our winter storms and happened just a half mile north of the famous

bixby bridge. crews say when it reopens on friday, the area will have signalized traffic control allowing one way alternating traffic in both directions. a project to construct a permanent repair to the highway is currently in the design phase. they hope to finish and install it in spring 2025. >> the goal of fog may return to the bay area. lot of that around and a lot of that moving on shore right now. let's check out your wake-up weather forecast gets going tomorrow morning and well, looks like the fog and low clouds going to be very thick early on tomorrow morning, foggy all around. i think not only just along the coastline inside the bay, some of the valleys to temperatures going to be hovering in the 40's in the 50's. maybe some drizzle early on to cloudy skies continuing even at 08:00am in the temperatures reflect that as well. only in the 50's and then we start sneaking a little sunshine in the valleys as we head toward 10:00am temperatures in the 50's and the 60's.

>> take a look at this video that's now gone viral showing charging cables cut at a tesla charging station in vallejo. the vandalism likely done over the weekend by suspected copper thieves, all charging stations. there are back in service tonight. but the incident did cause some headaches for a lot of tesla drivers. kron four's sara stinson spoke to the man who posted the video and reports from la how. >> all the charging josh tackler posted this now viral tiktok showing tesla charging cables slashed in stolen from multiple charging stalls on sunday. this happening at a tesla supercharger station in vallejo. >> behind the target on admiral callaghan lane. we

were a park in the car to go to the gym. my wife and i and i noticed that only at. >> couple other tesla charging stations had not been cut. >> after looking at one of the cut cables, becker says he knew exactly what happened. the suns have a little copper poor so i catch ekeler. it spent 17 years investigating these kinds of crime we would find generators in the back of big box retailers stripped of their copper. so it's a common theme right now. copper sells for $3, a pound on average and you get up to around 10 to 12 miles and you're looking to push probably 100 pounds. >> tesla quickly replace the charging cables on monday. >> but 8 stalls remained offline until tuesday night at 7 o'clock, which had tesla owners scrambling to find a working stall as be shocking to hear. but i'm i've got this. i'm glad didn't take all of the copper cause. >> i actually was pretty low right now. i had like 2 miles left. that would be pretty bad

after several tesla's meantime were vandalized. reports indicate numerous vehicles had their tires slashed at the tesla factory in fremont near 8.80, anyone with information is asked to contact fremont police. meantime, california is getting nearly 64 million dollars in federal funds to repair and replace electric vehicle chargers. >> lawmakers say the funding will help reduce greenhouse gases and promote ev >> alameda county fire crews in livermore are preparing for wildfire season. they toured the altamonte mountain pass in area vulnerable to fires due to high winds and dry vegetation. >> this is one of the main arteries for the have bay area coming through with a lot of vehicles will be fire sparks cigarette in the name of front of the window concert fired. >> the alameda county fire department says it will be increasing its staff for the next few months. we definitely are in us our summer pattern to things are starting to move along here conference. you meteorologist lawrence karnow

joining us with a look at the weather headlines. still some green in those hills but not long and that will be turning all brown. that's for sure. as we get along. >> dry summer months ahead of the humidity. well, that's going to be going way down to. and that's when we get some of these with these afternoon breezes mets. we see a lot of these fires get-g in the afternoon hours. but tonight that fog really kind of socking in around the bay area. that means humidity is way up. in fact, the rain, they're going to see some drizzle along the coastline overnight tonight and tomorrow you can see in the san francisco that cloud deck really surging on shore right now. more that on the way today. we did squeeze in some nice numbers, warm in the valleys above normal in lemore. 82 degrees. 80 in concord. 79 degrees in nice day in san jose. 66 in oakland cooler. 62 in the san francisco. but out the door right now, things kind of quiet out there. for the most part. we've got a couple high clouds streaming up above and the monterey bay and of course, low clouds and fog surging back on shore right now. more of that is on the way. in fact, high well, you can see those little trough develop along the coastline. watch out for a few more

thunderstorms over the southern sierra nevada. if you're headed in that direction for us, though, yeah, it's going to be that deeper marine layer. that's going to let that marine layer up and let it move further to the valley. so we've got more fog, low clouds on the way. it will be breaking up, though, as we head toward the afternoon, warm sunshine, going to fill many of those valleys even inside the bay tomorrow. looks like a beautiful especially away from the immediate coastline about 75 degrees in oakland, breezy in the afternoon should be a beautiful 79 in san jose warm but you head to san francisco. you've got mixed bag toward the find those numbers in the 50's downtown. maybe a little bit warmer. plenty of fog and sunshine throughout the bay area. they one man is under arrest tonight for allegedly shooting and killing 2 women in san lorenzo. >> skaters say it happened earlier this month at a home on dermody avenue. they say the suspect identified as howard reed was captured in kansas and will be brought back to california reid has been charged with 2 counts of murder with special circumstances. >> san jose police are asking

for your help locating a assault suspect. julian salvador, martinez is accused of pulling a young girl under a freeway overpass and sexually assaulting her happened back on april. 9th. investigators say he was riding a dark colored bicycle at the time. the girl managed to fight him off and then flat and then martinez fled on his bicycle. martinez is described as 5 foot 11 inches tall with dark hair and a thin mustache. this is a photo of him there on your screen. anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact san jose pd. >> lawmakers at the state capitol are hoping to hold social media companies accountable with a new set of bills they say will protect children. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. i'm i'm outraged. >> that's why we're going hard here. los angeles, democratic senator henry stern sharing frustration with social media companies, he says have not done their part to protect

children and teenagers online. it's time these large corporations. we'll have plenty of resources to do so step up. but he says he does not have faith in many social media companies and protecting minors online. that's why he introduced 2 bipartisan bills, including sb 14. 44 also known as sami's law named for the late sammy chapman. the 16 year-old teen died 3 years ago after taking a pill he bought from a drug dealer on snapchat. that pill turned out to be laced with the deadly dose of fentanyl and the names. my son, let's save some lies with this legislation. sammy's father sam came to the capitol to urge support for sami's law. it would allow parents to be involved in their kids online presence by bringing in third-party safety apps designed to monitor online activity. those apps will then notify parents upon finding dangerous content and potential harms online such as bullying or drug deals. what i hope for is that sammy's legacy is a legacy of saving other people. >> and that other people won't

have to go through what his brother and his mother and myself have had to suffer. but major tech companies are opposed in a statement tech net, a network of tech industry executives said safety is the number one priority for platforms adding third-party apps could pose issues quote, at a minimum, a 3rd party should not be able to unwind the many settings features parental controls policies. >> and protections. platforms have created to ensure a safe environment for teen users. but stern and his colleagues say they will keep fighting, not just for sami's law, but also for sb 15, 0, 4, a bill they argue will take on the issue of cyber bullying. the bill would require platforms to have a clear cyber bulling reporting button and provide written confirmation within 36 hours after a user has formally reported a cyber platform is then make a - written determination about its findings within 10 days if they fail to do so. platforms could face a $75,000 daily

younger than 14 years old. redwood city police say they arrested 19 year-old andre gomes today in east palo alto. officers say the incident happened in redwood city. they're now investigating to see if th re are any more victims. >> in palo alto's, 2 suspects are behind bars tonight for allegedly robbing 2 postal mail carriers over the weekend. the first happened in belmont on old county road near el camino. on saturday. police say the suspects allegedly through the mail carrier to the ground and then forcefully took her set of postal service. keys officers would later get reports about another mailecarrier being robbed this time on lima court in palo alto. they soon realized it was the same suspects. they led police on a brief pursuit before being caught. both were booked on several felony charges. >> coming up next, a swim that lasted more than 17 hours.

incarceration. kron four's. catherine heenan has reaction from san francisco da brooke jenkins. >> members of the group carried signs that said things like care, not cages in dealing with addicts. they argue against what they call car several measures and other words, jail or prison time in 2023. >> we saw a crackdown on drug users. the sheriffs were activated to arrest people who use drugs in the heart of our city. 60% of those arrests involved. people of >> see the ways that disrupts people's lives and actually contributes to overdose deaths. >> district attorney brooke jenkins sees the problem in a very different light. i think the fact that we have enabled drug use that we have condoned it and we've allowed it is what has caused this problem to everyone that i talked to who is in recovery right now, it has been successful, said that it was the criminal justice system that really

propelled to decide that treatment was what they needed for themselves. they had to be forced in a way to make that choice for what was best for them. and so that's all that we're trying to do is to make sure that we protect the most vulnerable from drug dealers, but also use this system to try to to to influence people to choose a better life for themselves. coalition members argue that crackdown measures only lead to more overdoses. >> they say san francisco needs to spend more money on prevention, treatment and community care facilities and say treatment should be available on demand. no waiting. >> we put so many barriers in people's way from meeting to have id from meeting to show up at a certain place at a certain time of wait, lance. but among those agreeing that tougher measures are critical. >> supervisor matt dorsey, who has overcome his own drug problems, he says with

progress being made to reduce street level drug scenes advocating to turn san francisco streets into arrest free for all of public drug use is a lunatic fringe and are key, not sound public health strategy. we have an obligation. >> as a body of government to intervene and help people again choose to a life worth living. catherine heenan kron. 4 news. >> the new set of coronavirus variants known as flirt is sparking concerns about a potential summer uptick in covid cases. they say for 2 weeks in april, the ariants made up about 28% of new cases in the u.s. ucsf infectious disease expert doctor peter chin. hong says many of the symptoms are similar to other variants of covid. yeah, it's probably going to be very similar doesn't mean that everybody is going out of a mild you know, we're still seeing covid in the hospital, believe it or not. >> just not that just the

ok. we will not >> kron 4 did reach out to google for comment. but so far we have not heard back. meantime, 50 former google employees have filed an official complaint against the company for unlawful termination. this comes after the employees held a sit in at google offices in sunnyvale and new york. the company fired them after finding out which employees have participated. the workers filed the complaint saying google unlawfully retaliated against them. the protesters say they want their jobs back and they want google to allow workers to protest without the risk of retaliation. >> american eagle outfitters is closing its store in the san francisco center. that's according to filings on the state's employment development website in september of last year. american eagle sued westfield for the for breach of the lease agreement and overall unsafe work conditions for employees. when westfield announced it was leaving the downtown mall behind. since then, several other well-known

stores including nordstrom, lego and hollister have also decided leave sf center american eagles last day open is on june. 12th. time now for the 4 zone forecast as we go outside to be a live look at sfo anyone coming in over the next couple days. it might. >> be a little bumpy on inbound laurence with all fog we've got. yeah, a lot of fog out there. that certainly be an issue, especially at the sfo. they get the time of that fog and >> can cause some issues, especially late night and early mornings. but overall, i think the pattern setting up to be very, very nice ahead. a very summer-like pattern begin to kick in, whiyh should should for this time of year, right? as we get closer and closer now to summertime. but our outside right now looking a whole lot like some of those clouds start to roll. well onshore. this looking from mount tam. so the clouds already making their way inside the bay and really pushing well inland. now, golden gate bridge got a lot of cloud cover. there may be a little drizzle overnight tonight along the coastline. watch out for that. maybe a little slick by tomorrow

morning and speaking sfo, you can see right there. the clouds already overhead, marching well onshore tonight and probably some of the interior valleys, the rain. they're starting deep in just a little bit. now morning fog giving way to some sunshine in and the valleys. but along the coast sticking around out there toward the beach is going to keep you cool right at the water's numbers out the door right now. you're 50 in a gray along the coastline. you've got 50's inside the bay. now some of the valleys, though, still very pleasant. 64 degrees, mostly clear and conquer. 71 in brentwood. also in a vacaville and 66 degrees now in calistoga. but we're going to see more of this in the coming days. more low clouds and fog. a deeper marine lair is going to push him further on shore. in fact, forecast model showing that surging onshore tonight, filling into the valley. see maybe even the central valley by tomorrow morning. even picking up a little patchy drizzle out there as we head toward the middle of day tomorrow. really looking pretty good lunch time. you want to head outside inside the bay? looking very nice. there are some warm temperatures and then also that fog star search back on shore by tomorrow evening. looking very summer, like outside the temperatures reflect that, too. numbers in

the san francisco, mainly in the 50's and low 60's along the coastline. little bit cool. their plan on the fog most of the day, right out toward the water's edge. but inside the bay start to warm things up nicely. 67, beautiful day in millbrae. 72 in san carlos. 78, it would side the south bay enjoying lots of sunshine after couple patches of fog early in the morning. warm sunshine in the tri valley. looking good there. 75 in fremont. 72 in hayward about 80 in dublin. lot of warm sunshine after couple patches of fog. a little thick early on. but late today, looks like another beautiful day outside. that's what's going to play out. looks like over the next couple of days and probably the weekend we're just going to see some minor changes in the forecast. so here's your 10 10 for you as we're getting closer toward the end of the month of your 10 of 10. but the warmer spots inland over the next few days, cooler by the coastline. then those temperatures start to drop off a little bit on saturday and sunday, probably in the monday or so and then start to warm back up just a little bit. so no major change in the pattern in the forecast. looking good. if you want to do some traveling, watch out the

southern sierra nevada likely going to see another round of some thunderstorms here in the next couple of days. really? yeah. if your camp and going thank you. learn it. all right. this is really an incredible story for the first time that we know of a swimmer has made it all the way from san francisco. >> to the farallon islands has more than 29 miles in 45 degree water. her name is amy apple has groups are and to complete the task. she swam for more than 17 hours. amy says the swim was mainly a test of endurance, not speed. >> open water. swimming is not about how that your it's about what you can were and what you can withstand. and i have a very strong aptitude for the cold and i've always the swim that direction. i used the current to launch me out toward the island and then halfway through the women to begin with the beginning of the of the actual hard part of this wet.
