this blanket of low stretches all the way inland into the delta from the north bay into the south bay, too. now winds from the coastline will continue through the day today having a little less of an impact on our temperatures, though, this marine layer is actually a little less thick than yesterday. so it burns off quicker and that also means temperatures will rise quicker temps right now are in the 50's later on today. a few more 80's inland. the lot of 70's along the bay shore. >> that will talking about this overturned big rig. this is at 80 wesson west grand and maritime offramp exit. so they close that overpass. it's that little overpass going right above the toll plaza the year. thankfully, no major delays going into the city off from that. still a smooth ride their 14 minutes. you can see this and the florida court. that's where it is right there. so that's been shut down for the past 2 hours or so. try write that overturned other highways like the ridge, about 14 minutes traveling

across towards peninsula. no accidents hazards there. 7 minute ride on the richmond. sandra fell bridge in golden gate bridge. 19 minute ride. all right. james, back to you. thank you. reyna on our top story. a date is now set for the recall election of alameda county district attorney pamela price. yeah, voters are going to be. >> deciding in november during the general election. kron four's will tran live in alameda county with the latest on. >> that news and the reaction from both sides will. >> with the reaction from recall supporters, james, they think november is simply too late for them. they actually were hoping for as early as august, maybe even even september for a stand-alone election with only one issue, whether or not to keep pamela price on the job. and in the end, the board of supervisors, they looked at 2 things and they decided to do it in november during the general election. the 2 things our time and money time, meaning they don't think they can

quickly turn around for august or september or and money. this is a cash county and they want to save as much money as they possibly can. as a general election tends to be a lot cheaper. then a stand-alone special election. let me show you video from last night. dozens of people turned out at the county board of supervisors meeting in alameda county. of course, we had people on both sides of the issue. supporters and opponents, pamela price. the opponents say one day on the job any longer is one day too long for them as far as they are concerned, which is why they want to hold the election just a couple of months from now. her supporters say she won her position during the general election and she should have a chance to defender position during the general election. not to mention more people tend to turn out during a general election, especially this year with the presidential election up in the air, that a bigger sample size could help pamela

they're one of the lowest paid in the entire county. take a look. this is general video we have up on your screen. it's what happened at 7.45 this morning. it will have the los gatos saratoga high school district teachers association here rallying for awareness at los gatos high school asking again for that better salaries in the district is not paying livable wages. most teachers are having to pick up second jobs just to survive in thl area last the group is also asking for smaller class sizes when it comes to specialty classes saying it's all about student safety and teacher workload back out here live again. it's set to happen within the next hour or so. so once we get more details, we'll keep you updated. that's the very latest from los michael thomas will send it back to okay, michael, thank you very much. i'm now 606. in the north bay. a man is dead. he was shot yesterday afternoon on marquette avenue in valais. whoa. >> police found him in the spot. the see her on the map name he was taken to the hospital and he ended up dying there. >> the police department not releasing his identity at this point and they're investigating what happened.

take a look at this video. it's going viral on tiktok. and it shows charging cables that have been removed from a tesla charging station and delay. look, no cables. these targeted this station and others. apparently they like to get the copper inside the cables, all of the charging stations are now back up and running and service. kron 4 sarah stinson has more and talk to the person who posted this video. >> all the charging josh, back clear posted this now viral tiktok showing tesla charging cables slashed in stolen from multiple charging stalls on sunday. this happening at a tesla supercharger station in vallejo. >> behind the target on admiral callaghan lane. and i noticed that only at. >> couple other remaining a tesla charging stations had not been cut.

us which driver of which car died. we just know one person did die in that crash on the peninsula. san mateo county man is in jail, accused of having with a child younger than 14 years old. police arrested 19 year-old andre gomes yesterday and east palo alto. they say that the incident happened in redwood city and they're investigating to see if there are any more victims in the south bay. san jose police want your help trying to locate a assault suspect. 50 year-old julian martinez is accused of pulling a young girl under a freeway overpass and sexually assaulting her. and this happened on april 9th. and as you can see, does what he looks like any was also wearing arriving a dark colored bicycle. the girl managed to fight him off and then her attacker took off on a bike. >> 6.10, is the time. let's take a live look out at sfo

now. we're a united airlines flight out of singapore bound for san francisco was forced to return to singapore due to some engine trouble. that air plane was a boeing 7.87 officials say it had more than 200 people on board at the time. they will all be rebooked later today on a different flight. this is just the latest in a series of incidents, though, related to united airlines aircraft, many of which have involved sfo for some reason. ok? still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news concerns of covid cases rising. once again, we're going to tell you about the new variant, but health officials are now warning everybody about. >> and san jose state university ordering protesters to clear their encampments on campuses. students try to convince the school to comply with their demands. and after the break, president biden sets huge new tariffs on goods from china. will tell you how this will impact consumers here in the u.s..

for 40 years. raging waters announcing the end of last summer. they said they no longer going to be in business. and then february san jose city leaders approved a new lease and contract for a new water park. alameda county fire crews have to clear the start of fire season there in livermore. you can see that they kicked off with a meeting with local homeowners encouraging everybody to have a plan in case of an emergency. firefighters are going to increase staff for the next few months. we'll be right. >> and here's an update for you. highway one down near big sur is reopening to traffic this friday. part of that highway collapsed. you may remember last march following one of our winter storms. it happened just a half mile north of the famous bixby bridge. crews say that when it opens on friday, the area will have signalized traffic control. so keep an eye out for that. that will allow one way alternating traffic in both directions. so be real careful. a project to

not a huge difference. but today and tomorrow are slightly the warmest days of this forecast tomorrow. expecting some deep in marine layer. this could result in some morning drizzle, but also tomorrow we'll still see fair share of 80's. today's daytime highs in the 60's for us out in a few more 60's at the coast. i do expect a peek of sunshine at the very least at the coast today. the rest of us will see that sunshine in full force and that's going help temperatures to get a little bit warmer. san jose and campbell, up to 82 today. fremont nearing 80 degrees back to the 80's for the tri valley while conquered at 81 for your high oakland, back to 70 in vacaville, even up near 90 degrees today at 89 for your daytime high, tomorrow's temperatures will be similar to today's a few standouts could be getting close to 90 like vacaville. i'm putting most of us in london. the 80's, though, bayshore cities in the mid 70's. after that we get our inland spots back in

the 70's. great. all right, john, thank you for that. well, we've been tracking this overturned big rig. this is 80 westbound and west grand avenue exit just as you're coming into the city. so here's a little screen grab. >> caltrans, you can see the big rig there. he's been there for the past few hours and they're gradually working on trying to get that back up. right. so we're going to be monitoring this. we do know that this is not impacting any of the traffic going into the city. so you can see from the camera there, right? in the far distance, the little corner. that's where the big ring is right up there. so it off ramp is shut down. traffic flowing into the city. not seen any major issues there. a 21 minute ride for everybody taking that route. the san mateo bridge around 14 minutes. so no major issues along one. a one. that's good news. 30 minute ride in the south bay. 85 to park while to 80 2.37. in 82, you still make an excellent time selling a pete is about 24 minutes deciding between 5, 80, 80 in oakland. they both are moving

at the limit. gary. james, back to you. >> thank you very much. rain is 6.18. is the time in the east bay. a group of city workers and union leaders rallied at oakland city hall tuesday to demand answers to the allegations that the city failed to collect millions of taxes from businesses in oakland. officials estimate that nearly 35 million in unpaid business taxes still outstanding with some businesses failing to file their taxes altogether. union leaders and workers are asking for more transparency and a better system when it comes to collecting taxes in the city of oakland. >> meantime, u.s. citizenship and immigration services is going to open an asylum office in oakland today. it's located on clay street. the new location is temporary. has the office in san francisco's looking to increase capacity to hold asylum interviews. the agency is urging applicants to double check their interview. notice and make you need to know they have to attend an interview. you could be either oakland or san francisco at

health this morning. a new set of coronavirus variants known as flirt is sparking concerns now about a potential uptick in covid cases this summer. officials say that for 2 weeks in april, the variant made up about 28% of new cases across the u.s. ucsf infectious disease expert doctor peter chin-hong says that many of the symptoms are similar to previous variants of covid. >> yes, probably going to be very similar doesn't mean that everybody is going out of a mild you know, we're still seeing covid in the hospital,

looking at is nice and sunny, we have a thinner veil of burning there this morning. it's going to burn off a little quicker and that means temperatures are going to rise a little quicker as well. a look outside closer to the quite hours. this is a much more grave you currently. we are seeing some fog through the carquinez out of the delta as well as from san jose up to santa rosa this morning. that's going to burn off fairly quick. so like i said, temperatures will rise fairly quickly, too. winds immediately from the coast. it is a solid westerly breeze transporting some of that cool air into the bay this morning. and that's those cool 50's that we've got and a few upper 40's and timber on as well as fairfax later on today. daytime highs will rise into the 80's for more and more of our inland areas with some 70's along the bay shore. the 60's hanging tight out along the coastline. i'll send it over to rain a with a look at the road. sounds like we've got a bit of an issue on the bay bridge this morning, reyna. yeah, this is actually weapon at west grand and

overturned big rig and they've completely shut down that overpass. there. this is just as you're approaching the toll plaza. if you are traveling into the city this morning, i'll show you where this is. >> rag here you can see the lights from up there. so that overpass shut down right now. that said west grant that's not impacting any of the traffic coming into the city this morning. you can see chp there working on trying to get that turn up, right. so they can get that off and get that overpass back open again. a 15 minute ride on the san mateo bridge. no accidents or delays across our other bridges. that's good news. 12 minutes richmond center fell bridge in golden gate bridge. yeah, a little bit of fog. take your time as you're traveling and 19 minute ride darya. james, back to you. thanks. a lot let's turn to what we've been following throughout the day bay area with the protest bay area. universities now are pushing back against these protesters who have been occupying campuses. as you know, it's been about 3 weeks that protesters have been set up in camps. and ten's at u c berkeley, a lot of those popped up on campuses across the bay area.

>> with students demanding the university's cut ties with the year with israel, any sort of aid to the israeli government or the military. >> as to other universities, to also set deadlines for students to clear up their tents. yeah. and this is what's left of the encampment at cal. >> students camped out there for about 3 weeks outside of sproul hall that the chancellor send out a letter on tuesday saying that school leaders have reached an agreement with the demonstrators. the university is going to on its part created committee to look over investments in israel and they add they will not be able to fully divest from those investments, but they will look into specifically weapons, manufacturing and surveillance industries. yeah. i mean, time student protesters at san francisco state also reached an agreement with administrators after more than 2 weeks of demonstrating, the group announced that the school's president and other leaders committed to divest from weapons manufacturers and created workforce to develop

new screenings for investments. the student protesters scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to discuss the matter. time now is 6.32. and we want to take a look specifically at in the south at san jose state where school leaders have given the protesters until 6 o'clock. and that was last night to clear out. so what will happen today as kron four's jacked moment report students say they're not leaving. what started as daytime sitting senator state's campus is now a 24 7 encampment. >> because i understand that our campus is very silent and complicit with not only genocide, but also as 9 isn't. the university to abide by their demands. professor of justice studies saying kill is the advise it for some of the students here. the students in solidarity each other decided to launch a popular university for gaza. and another point of

contention is tommy smith, the 1960, at olympia who famously raised his fist and the support of human rights posted an instagram. his support for the protesters said as a state on the other hand, says they for the opposite from smith and the other olympians there, john. carlos, i do think that makes the administration a little bit nervous about this encampment, even existing so close to graduation. meantime, back on campus, the deadline to move out has passed. no police and no forcing out saying kill says she wants to keep advocating for her students. so that's why i risk my own skin in order to protect their right to free speech and academic freedom to speak out against this genocide. now officials with san jose state tell me that many of the students and of violating the student code of conduct what that punishment may look like remains to be seen with the administration telling me we're just so close to graduation. >> reporting in san jose, jackie moment kron 4 news. well in san francisco, students at usf are also given a deadline of 03:00pm

yesterday. >> school leaders saying they encampments need to be broken down or the students are going to consequences. just like in san jose state. but instead the students held a rally. we know the university has its graduation set for saturday. the students say they are prepared to stay at their encampment beyond graduation if their demands aren't met. >> bass says the suspension or explosion. so you are at risk of being suspended or expelled. and we just think that's a scare tactic. we think that we understand that we have so much power as a collective of what we did here. >> either encampment has been really unifying for all of us. >> well, the university has been in talks with protesters who say they have been working to keep the dialogue open. in a statement, the university says there are no plans right now to clear the encampment or involve law enforcement as long as the camp and is peaceful and non violent. the family of a man who died after being in police custody in antioch has settled with the city for 7 and a half million

dollars. the antioch city council voted to approve the settlement in closed session. the civil rights suit against the city of antioch was filed on behalf of the family of 30 year-old angelo quinto. now keto was a filipino american veteran who died by asphyxiation after being knelt on. on his neck by antioch police, according to the lawsuit, kato was forcibly restrained during an obvious mental health emergency in december of 2020. >> time now 6.35. and the san jose city council unanimously approves regulating smoke and vape shops in the city. this resolution directs staff to require a conditional use permit to operate a vape and smoke shop. san jose councilmember peter ortiz introduced this. the city hopes it will curb illegal activity such as cannabis and magic mushroom sales in the stores. this comes in response to increased concerned about you. 6 posher to cannabis as well and other drugs through the growing number of smoke

a fatal collision with a car. it happened near the intersection of mission boulevard and orchard avenue last wednesday. >> officials arrived on scene to say they found that scooter rider unresponsive suffering from injuries. he was taken to the hospital. but later pronounced dead. the driver didn't suffer any injuries. police say drugs or alcohol at this point are not believed to be factors in this crash. this is the city's 4th fatal crash this year. health workers and community groups now demanding san francisco do more to prevent overdose deaths. and that includes the argument that the problem is only made worse if drug users face the risk of jail instead of treatment. kron four's catherine heenan reports. >> all right. members of the group carried signs that said things like care, not cages in dealing with addicts. they argue against what they call car several measures and other words, jail or prison time in 2023. >> we saw a crackdown on drug users. the sheriffs were

activated to arrest. people use drugs in the heart of our city. 60% of those arrests involved. people of >> see the ways that disrupts people's lives and actually contributes to overdose deaths. >> district attorney brooke jenkins sees the problem in a very different light. i think the fact that we have enabled drug use that we have condoned it and we've allowed it is what has caused this problem to everyone that i talked to who is in recovery right now, it has been successful, said that it was the criminal justice system that really propelled to decide that treatment was what they need it for themselves. they had to be forced in a way to make that choice for what was best for them. and so that's all that we're trying to do is to make sure that we protect the most vulnerable from drug dealers, but also use this system to try to to to influence people to choose a better life for themselves.

4 news. 6.40, is the time in a controversial plan from san francisco city leaders to give free alcohol to homeless people suffering from alcoholism. >> is getting some pushback. the city-run initiative is called the managed alcohol program or map for short, it's been around for 4 years. it has cost the city roughly 20 million dollars in total supporters say the goal isn't to eliminate alcohol use, but rather to keep individuals in a quote, safe level of intoxication. aiming to increase their safety and overall quality of life. but critics say this is only making the problem worse and the city should be focusing instead on helping these people beat their addiction. >> where's the medical supervision for when someone does hit that tipping point? if we were treating politics as attics, then we would find a substitute to that is don addictive. that would help their brain and a comparable way.

looking at a photo from a caltrans camera. you can see they finally got the head of that truck up right? they're trying to get that full truck upright. this has been the problem along 80 westbound in the west grand avenue, offramp exit for the past, i'd say about 2 and a half hours now. so good news. the bacon, some progress there. if you are traveling into the city this morning, well, you need to know it's not impacting this flow of traffic as you're heading into the city that overturned big rigs right there on your screen. so you can't get off of that off-ramp. if you do need to take that girl west grand avenue exit, look at our other highways and bridges have not seen any major delays along the san mateo bridge about 18 minutes. still making good progress 8.81. 0, 1, 40 minutes till the highway for can to conquer that. starting to build southbound 6.80, dublin to fremont 20 minutes. if you are going to take it 101 right now, we're still in the clear. 33 minute ride. still mostly green. no need to hop onto a tr 82 at this time.

all right. james, back to you. thanks a lot. rain at 6.49. and the 5 year-old boy who drowned behind a home on bethel island has now been identified. his name is lucas yang from livermore. he was found in the water about 40 minutes after he was reported missing. neighbor says that the boy was visiting family at a housing complex near the water when he fell off of the dock behind the home. they're still investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning. >> a man accused of shooting 2 women and a sailor home earlier this year has been arrested in kansas. the alameda county da's office has charged howard reed with 2 counts of murder. the women were found dead in their home on durham avenue on may. 4th after their family members reported, neither responded to phones or texts or anything at the end of april, they found the women had been shot and killed in the suspect. it had

been living with the women. he was arrested in kansas and is being brought back to california. >> the concord man who struck and killed an 86 year-old man while driving under the influence has been sentenced. police say damian lopez was intoxicated when it crashed into 2 cars last thanksgiving. first incident happened to treat boulevard and oak grove road. police were responding to that crash when they later found a second crash happened near oak grove and ryan's road. that's where the 87 86 year-old man identified as thomas o'connell was a passenger in one of the cars o connell was taken to the hospital where he later died. lopez pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. governor newsom touring a new facility in redwood city that will soon expand to house people experiencing behavioral health challenges. he says plans are in place right now for similar facilities to go up after voters narrowly passed prop one back in march.
