also why san francisco mayor london breed is choosing not to participate in a major mayoral debate. >> station. he's calling for news 2. >> thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. i'm justine waldman will begin with the date that has now been set for the recall election of alameda county district attorney pamela price and price has a lot to say about it. crowd forced to justice joins us now live from our newsroom with details. friday. a price saying that she is ready to fight standing by what she has done so far in office. >> since being elected in 2023, she says she's ready to clear up what she calls misinformation 2 weeks ago. the alameda county board of supervisors certifying the signatures required for a recall. and yesterday they voted that the recall will be part of the general election in november. the effort to recall coming from a committee called save alameda for

everyone. today, the group supporting da prize protect the wind for public safety holding a meeting with price oakland pricing. she plans on clearing up that misinformation. he raised fair and better place if you meant to take or way. >> they're just hating on for no apparent reason. she's doing her job. >> so we pray that you stay position. we will tell the truth. and we will counteract the lies and the misinformation campaign. >> that has been amplified by certain folks in the media and a certain people. there's been a whole lot of misinformation. >> alameda county says combining the recall election with the general election will cost 4 million dollars as opposed to between 15 20 million dollars, it would have cost to hold a special election. the decision to combine the 2 was supported by price price. re reiterating

community members, all san francisco voters should trust them to run the city for the next 4 years staff will be hosting this debate with other confirmed candidates on monday. may 20th. >> now to another big story we've been watching here on kron for the 3 week-long encampment at u c berkeley is now over. for weeks. encampments have been popping up on campuses across the country with students demanding universities cut ties with israel. so here now is what is left of the encampment at cow students camped out there for more than 3 weeks outside of sparta hall. and yesterday the chancellor sent out a letter saying that school leaders had reached an agreement with demonstrators. and now the university will create a committee to look at investments in israel, adding the school will not be able to fully divest but will look into weapons and manufacturing companies as well as surveillance industries. student protesters at san francisco state also reaching an agreement with the administration after more than

2 weeks of demonstrating, the group announced the school's president and other leaders committed to divest from weapons makers and create a workforce to develop new screenings for investments. they're also student protests in the south bay at san jose state students defied a deadline yesterday to clear out their encampment and instead of clearing out, they stay put and held. a rally the university says the students camping out are in violation of the code of conduct and they could face disciplinary actions. organizers say they have no plans of taking down the encampment. san jose state says they tried to meet with the students at the encampment, but none of them wanted to speak. and students at usf also door to deadline to clear out their encampment by yesterday. they instead held their own rally. students say they're prepared to stay at the encampment beyond graduation. on saturday if their demands are not met. the university has been a talk with the protesters and says they have been working to keep an open dialogue. there are no

plans to clear the encampment or involved law enforcement. they say as long as the it remains peaceful and non violent. hundreds of jurors, community leaders from across the state, including the bay area and sacramento today for the annual j pack capital summit. it's the largest advocacy conference of its kind 500 people from some of the state's leading jewish community organizations and a coalition of diverse non jewish groups are taking part in this two-day conference organized by the jewish public affairs committee of california, commonly known as j pack attendees are set to meet with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to advocate for the greater california jewish community and fight the rise in anti-semitism. >> well, this has been a hard year for the jewish what fills have decided to turn pain into action. just a packed event today is meaningful because we're under threat to be together in community

>> what i saw the announcement from the president of sonoma state. my jaw dropped that state senator scott wiener. he is talking about this letter sent out tuesday evening to the sonoma state campus community. >> detailing the state's schools agreement that was struck with those protesting the israeli gaza war. more than 19 days ago, protesters set up encampments at sonoma state. >> president lee says that he has listened to their demands in the letter sent out tuesday, president lee said, quote, none of ushould be on the silines when human beings are subject to mass killing and destruction. i've said this before and it merits repeating this is no political religious or cultural principle that merits the murder of innocent. and the one battle we should be engaged is the fight for inclusion, respect and freedom of all people guard list, their background or identity

and quote, the president then laid out a series of agreements struck with the protesters, including going over the school's investments, declaring an academic boycott with israeli universities, recognizing a palestinian curriculum and calling on a permanent cease-fire in gaza. >> it's absolutely unacceptable. what sonoma state is proposing to do is to basically blocks west israeli academics. it's a complete academic. we caught it any kind of student exchange between sonoma universities in this role. >> on social media, protesters at an on the state applauded the agreement, calling it a win and that their demands were met. kron 4 reached out to sonoma state. they responded by saying that they have received many requests for comment about the president's letter and that they will be issuing a statement. we've also reached

out to the council on american islamic relations, san francisco bay area, but have not heard back yet to recess. stasio kron. 4 news. >> dozens of teachers rallying outside of los gatos high school this morning, demanding better pay. they say they're the lowest paid in the county and most teachers have to work 2 jobs in order to make ends meet a rally also held that saratoga high school. one educator says the teachers in the district deserve better. >> it's a great place, but it's very hard. and i hope the parents realized a majority of us. we can't afford to live here. we have to commute to be able to work here and try to make a living. so that are younger teachers, especially can live in this area keeping our slice of the pie. >> the los gatos saratoga union high school district sent us this statement in response to the rally at reeves. the district is currently in the middle of regular contract negotiations

with both the district teachers association as well as our classified staff bargaining. we look forward to continuing good faith negotiations that are mutually beneficial and fiscally responsible to our community. new at to half moon bay planning commissioners have approved a new housing project for low-income senior farm workers. this is coming after governor gavin newsom threatened legal action over the delay in approving this plan. this 40 unit affordable housing project will move forward more than a year after the deadliest shooting in the county's history when the governor met with survivors, he toured what were found to be deplorable, living conditions for the farm workers. he is now budgeted millions of dollars in funding and resources to ensure those farm workers receive support from the state. the number of people in alameda county has gone down. the health department says it has dropped by 3% from the last count of 2022. >> the total number of homeless people this year is

around. 9500 officials say the number of unsheltered people has gone down a total of 11%. the alameda county health department is seeing an increase in the number of homeless people using shelters and moving into temporary housing. the report also reveals that homelessness in oakland has slowed the homeless population. there did increase by 9%. but the increase in the unsheltered population is much less than the trend from 2015 to 2022. when the city averaged 32% increases. officials credit that to better outreach to homeless people in the city of oakland. >> coming up, what ballers are trying to do to add a little bit more oakland culture to their new home and raimondi park and 2 presidential debate showdowns are now officially on the books with president biden and former president trump preparing to go head to head. but first, we're getting our first look at the final phase of multi billion dollar harvey milk terminal at sfo.

>> in just a few short weeks, all that work will be done on the new harvey milk terminal at san francisco international airport, which is where we find kron 4 s charles clifford to share an exclusive look. so what did you think when you checked out? >> it's pretty nice. you know, the harvey milk terminal right behind me here terminal one at sfo has been under construction for years, most of its complete. but they're still sums up parts that are there still being worked on.

and today we the airport gave us a sneak peek inside a look at some of those new areas. inside the new harvey milk terminal at sfo. on wednesday, crews were putting the finishing touches on what has been a project almost 10 years in the making. once the final phase of the work is completed here, travelers will find new shops, restaurants, art displays new ticket counters. >> and 2 new airplane gates for a total of 27 gates, both alaska and delta airlines plan to move their operations into this terminal later this year. there will also be a brand-new second-floor security checkpoint. that's above the ground floor, security checkpoint. the idea is that travelers walking over the bridge from the parking garage, an airtrain can go directly through security without needing to go downstairs. the completion of the work will also fully link the harvey milk terminal to the rest of the airport, allowing people to walk between terminals both before and after they go through security. the entire harvey milk terminal project cost about 2.5 billion dollars. but

the airport believes in the long run it will be worth the hefty price >> if we really invest heavily in the features, the amenities, the experience inside the terminal. we get that back in the form of people are spending more money in the terminal there, shopping and dining more. they're spending more time enjoying their stay in the terminal. so, yes, it's a high initial investment. 2.5 billion dollars when people love the time that they're spending here, we recoup those costs. >> the new harvey milk terminal is set to open to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony on june. 11th. >> all right, back live now. a couple other things. if you've been to sfo, the departures curb, you may have noticed there's a bunch of construction blocking the lanes all the time next to terminal one. i'm told that june 11th, all of that goes away once they complete work here at the harvey milk terminal. they're also going to start work on some redevelopment or improvements to terminal 3. the united terminal. but for now at sfo,

charles clifford kron, 4 charles, thank you so much. >> the oakland ballers have made an official request to repurpose the bleacher seats formerly used by the raiders at the coliseum. they say that the seats remain unused in the stadium's parking lot since the raiders relocated to las vegas, the ball or sent a letter to the oakland alameda coliseum, joint powers authority commission and how they plan to purchase in the news. the seats for the upcoming season that raimondi park the baller say that their proposal aims to preserve a vital piece of oakland sporting legacy. the team's co-founder, paul friedman says, quote, we recognize the emotional and cultural significance. these bleacher seats hold for the oakland community by incorporating them into our new ballpark. we aim to honor the memories of the past. well, giving oakland fans new experience, but the team committed to never leaving the town opening day for the ballers is june 4th.

president biden and former president trump have agreed to at least 2 debates leading up to november's election. so this morning biden posted on social media saying that he accepted to invitations to appear at presidential debates. trump responded on truth, social saying that he'd be there. the first debate will be moderated by cnn on june 27th. the second will be hosted by abc on september 10th. the faa is investigating after a jet owned by the former president hit another private plane at a florida airport. trump's boeing 7.57. landed sunday morning at west palm beach. and while it was taxiing, his aircraft's wing clipped the rear elevator of a parked this did jet. it's unclear whether or not the former president was on the plane and no one was hurt. surveillance video captured the terrifying moments. the nose of a delta airplane burst into flames. it happened last night after flight landed at the seattle tacoma international airport from

cancun, mexico. the aircraft was carrying nearly 200 people. investigators say the fire started when electrical cord plugged into the plane shorted out. delta airlines says everyone was able to get off the plane safely. we're taking a live look outside here at our camera showing us what's going on here in san francisco. there's what the transamerica pyramid looks right now. you can see that fog kind of well a rolling out and we have lots of wind as well out there. but the blue skies also coming back. so we're going to be joined now by our meteorologist kyla grogan to go on what's going on for the rest the day that fog going. and know, well, it's it's all about that may gray in the morning and then the sunshine in the afternoon, right? so that kind of we're going to be thing that you can see just how the blues kind of peaking. >> here at the golden gate bridge with a cloud been hanging on for a majority of the day. and that's keeping things cool in san francisco. you can see still in the 50's oakland, a little warmer in the 60's because they're getting some of that sunshine. obviously, san jose livermore

concord getting some sun there to santa rosa has been pretty cool today. still just 69 degrees and half moon bay has been socked in in the cloud. so what this means, if you're going to be out and about tonight, maybe you're going to catch the game at 6.45? we're talking 50's. we're going to start off with some cloud. just a few clouds with mostly sunny skies. by the time again. and you're going want that jacket because the marine layer will be moving into. let me show you how this looks as we go into our evening. i'm taking you to write win. that game starts at 6.45. and you can see mostly this is just kind of hugging the coastline. still. but as you move later into the evening, you see it starting move in even the possibility of a little coastal drizzle out there as we get into the overnight and then tomorrow morning we start just like we started today on the it might even be a little bit more pervasive tomorrow morning. so just be ready for that. looking at the east bay here live. you can see that mix of clouds, a little sun peeking through and let's talk temperatures over the next. you know, 5, 6, 7, days. we're not going to see a whole lot of variation a little bit cooler as we head towards

sunday into the weekend. but other than that, we're kind of in this pattern. just slightly above average. you can see the average in livermore is about 75 degrees. now, the reason for this above average temperature thing that's happening is high pressure that's sitting off the coast. but notice as we work our way towards the weekend, i said that kind of cools down a little bit there saturday. now going into sunday. you start to see where those i start to dip a little farther to south and bring a little low pressure and and lower the temperatures just slightly. it's not going to be very dramatic. but it will be there. so as we roll over the next 7 days is not a very, you know, thrilling up and down. sideways forecast rate is pretty steady as we go. but you do notice a little bit of a dip in temperatures as we get into that weekend time frame. and i think the fog in the morning will be with us at least for the next few days. back to you. thanks so much. for the first time in california history, chronic wasting disease or cwd. >> has been detected in the states deer population. it was discovered in 2 deer in madera and inyo counties following

all kron. 4 >> a stolen bike leading benicia police to get some weapons and drugs off the streets. officers discovered 2 guns and ar 15 and gun parts while responding to a report of a stolen bike on west 7th street. and cheryl drive monday afternoon. they say 2 men were behind the theft and they were arrested. one of them was cited and released. the other confessed to having drugs and the weapons inside of his car. and he was taken to the county jail on multiple felony charges, including carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle carrying a loaded firearm in public under specific circumstances and owning a firearm without a serial number. another beloved san francisco restaurant has shut its doors for good. the presidio social club served its last meal on mother's day. in a statement on its website, the founder says with regret and sorrow, i'm saddened to announce the closing adding what an honor it has been to serve. you. a controversial

plan from san francisco city leaders to give free alcohol to homeless people suffering from alcoholism is getting some pushback. this city run initiative is called the managed alcohol program or map. it's been around for 4 years and it has cost the city about 20 million dollars. supporters say the goal is not to eliminate alcohol use, but rather to keep individuals at a quote, safe level of intoxication, aiming to increase their safety and overall quality of life. but critics say this is only making the problem worse and the city should be focusing on helping these people beat their addiction. where's the medical supervision? >> for when someone does hit that tipping point, if we were treating alex has attics, then we would find a substitute to that is don addictive. that would help their brain and a comparable way. >> we did reach out to san

francisco's department of public health for comment on this. and so far we have not heard back. health workers and community groups are demanding san francisco do more to prevent overdose deaths. that includes the argument that the problem is only made worse if drug users face the risk of incarceration. kron four's catherine heenan reports. >> members of the group carried signs that said things like care, not cages in dealing with addicts. they argue against what they call car several measures and other words, jail or prison time in 2023. >> we saw a crackdown on drug users. sheriffs were activated to arrest. people use drugs in the heart of our city. 60% of those arrests involved. people of color. see the ways that disrupts people's lives and actually contributes to overdose deaths. >> district attorney brooke jenkins sees the problem in a very different light. i think the fact that we have enabled

drug use that we have condoned it and we've allowed it is what has caused this problem to everyone that i talked to who is in recovery right now, it has been successful, said that it was the criminal justice system that really propelled them to decide that treatment was what they needed for themselves. they had to be forced in a way to make that choice for what was best for them. and so that's all that we're trying to do is to make sure that we protect the most vulnerable from drug dealers, but also use this system to try to to to influence people to choose a better life for themselves. coalition members argue that cracked on measures only lead to more overdoses. >> they say san francisco needs to spend more money on prevention, treatment and community care facilities and say treatment should be available on demand. no waiting. >> we put so many barriers in people's way from meeting to have id from meeting to show

of the family of the 30 year-old. he was a filipino american veteran who died by asphyxia after police officers knelt on his neck during what the family says was a mental health emergency in december of 2020. tesla's accused of violating the federal clean air act hundreds of times by letting its fremont plant. it harmful pollutants. the lawsuit filed by the nonprofit environmental democracy project. it says elon musk's company expose nearby residents and workers too excess. nitrogen, oxides, arsenic and other chemicals, mainly through its paint shop operations. it was in february. the tesla agreed to pay 1.5 million dollars to settle a separate lawsuit. but more than 2 dozen counties claiming that it mishandled hazardous waste at locations across california. all right. this video is going viral on tiktok right now. it shows charging cables being cut at a

tesla charging station in vallejo. the thieves are believed to have targeted the charging stations to get thep copper from the cables, all the charging stations are now back in service. kron 4 sarah stinson spoke to the man who posted that video and has the details. >> charging josh posted this now viral tiktok showing tesla charging cables slashed in stolen from multiple charging stalls on sunday. this happening at a tesla supercharger station in vallejo behind the target on admiral callaghan lane. and i noticed that only at. >> couple other tesla charging stations had not been cut. >> after looking at one of the cut cables, becker says he knew exactly what happened. suns have a little copper poor so i catch ekeler. it spent 17 years investigating these kinds of crime we would find generators in the back of big box retailers stripped of

kyla strachan. the movement of i look sick today. yeah, it does seem like it's going to be a little bit of an intense marine layer in the overnight tonight. you know, a lot of people are saying, well, as intense or i was this morning and >> some folks out of the coast, as you can see, half moon bay are like we're still in the clouds, but san jose of some sunshine to mason and san francisco, too. it's out there, but we're doing that microclimate thing. if we take a look here, it's kind of interesting that a city of this really has affected the whole state, 60 degrees in monterrey where they have that marine layer hanging on 87 right now in fresno, 88 in sacramento. check out reading 95 degrees. there's the warmth. we're not quite have thankfully, but we do have some nice 70's out there in morgan hill. 78 livermore. we've got 77 in dublin. 75 in nevada come around the bay. you see a lot of 60's about berkeley, about 60 degrees. same story in downtown san francisco. so a little cool out at the coast and a little breezy out there, too. we talked about this a bit. we're getting a little bit of an onshore flow happening this afternoon. that is usually the

pattern, right? when you get the marine layer kind of rolling back in. so what happens is that marine layer start to expand. it presses in and then it moves in in the overnight hours and really gets going in the early morning hours. and i do think tonight that we are going to see the possibility of a little bit of coastal drizzle out there, which could mean some wet roads when you wake up in the morning. eow, here's the bonus of getting some marine layer going is it helps to kind of tamp down some of our allergies. you can see over the next couple of days here not doing too badly. we're in the medium category, which is, you know, a lot better than we were. so there's the upside. so tonight just look out for that marine layer is that comes in. that means if you're out and about this evening, take the jacket with you. temperatures won't be bad but a little bit of a breeze and a little bit of that. marine layer can make things cool down rather quickly. as we all know, temperature trends over the next few days, nothing terribly exciting, right? we're going go down a couple of degrees here and there. but this is berkeley as an example. you can see we're pretty steady as she goes. temperature wise and the forecast itself not showing a whole lot of variation here. so you can see that where, you
