>> now from the bay area's local news station. this is kron. 4 news at 3. >> now with 3 a victory for pro-palestine protesters on one local college campus. sonoma state university officials agreeing to sever ties with israel. protesters are calling this decision a win and their encampment is now set to disband. thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 3. i'm justine waldman. this decision is coming, though, with a lot of controversy. kron four's terisa stasio spoke with a local lawmaker who is calling the agreement awful. >> what i saw the announcement

from the president of sonoma state. my jaw drops that state senator scott wiener. he is talking about this letter sent out tuesday evening to the sonoma state campus community. >> detailing the state's schools agreement. >> that was struck with those protesting the israeli gaza war. more than 19 days ago, protesters set up encampments at sonoma state. president lee says that he has listened to their demands in the letter sent out tuesday, president lee said, quote, none of us should be on the sidelines when human beings are subject to mass killing and destruction. i've said this before and it merits repeating this is no political religious or cultural principle that merits the murder of innocent. and the one battle we should be engaged is the fight for inclusion, respect and freedom of all people, regardless of their background or identity

and quote, the president then laid out a series of agreements struck with the protesters, including going over the school's investments, declaring an academic boycott with israeli universities, recognizing a palestinian curriculum and calling on a permanent cease-fire in gaza. >> it's absolutely horrifying unacceptable. what sonoma state is proposing to do is to basically blocks west israeli academics. it's a complete academic. we caught it any kind of student exchange between sonoma universities in this role. >> on social media, protesters at an on the state applauded the agreement, calling it a win and that their demands were met. >> there are no 2 sides to a genocide. but the students have asked for and what the president is in green, too. is the way forward cowardice that this

>> president basically allowed this battle. >> minority to take over the administration exclude jewish and israeli its students, faculty from decision-making kron 4 reached out to sonoma state. they responded by saying that they have received many requests for comment about the president's letter and that they will be issuing a statement. >> to recess stasio kron. 4 news. >> these 3 week-long encampment to uc berkeley is now over for weeks. encampments have been popping up on campuses across the bay with students demanding universities cut ties with israel. so here is what is left of the encampment at cal. students camped out there for more than 3 weeks outside of sprawl hall. and yesterday the chancellor sent out a letter saying the school leaders reach an agreement with the demonstrators and now the university will create a committee to look over investments in israel adding the school will not be able to fully divest but will look into weapons making and

surveillance industries. student protesters at san francisco state also reach an agreement with the administration after more than 2 weeks of demonstrating, the group announced the school's president and other leaders committed to divesting from weapons makers and also will now create a workforce to develop new screenings for investments and students at usf also ignored a deadline to clear out an encampment by yesterday. instead they held a rally. students say they're prepared to stay at this encampment beyond graduation. on saturday. if their demands are not met. and the university has been in talks with protesters and he's saying now they've been working to keep an open dialogue. there are no plans to clear out the encampment or involve law enforcement as long they say as the encampment remains peaceful and nonviolent, they're also student protests in the south bay at san jose state students defied a deadline yesterday to clear out this encampment instead of clearing it out, they stay put and held a rally. the university says

students camping out are violation of the code of conduct and they could face disciplinary actions. organizers say they have no plans to take down the encampment. >> because i understand that our campus is very silent and complicit with not only genocide, but also as 9 and so i do see this campus as being a zionist campus, which means that for our muslim students are palestinian students are arab students. this is not a welcoming places that should be for them. >> san jose state says they tried to meet with students at the encampment, but one of them, none of them wanted to speak. hundreds of jewish community leaders from across the state, including the bay area and sacramento today for the annual j pack capital summit. it's the largest advocacy conference of this kind. 500 people from some of the state's leading jewish community organizations and a coalition of diverse non jewish groups taking part in

superintendent tony thurmond all spoke to that delegation in person. governor governor gavin newsom provided virtual pre-recorded remarks. now noon, a 3 o'clock palo alto is the latest city to ban public comment through zoom at city council meetings. the new rule passing monday on a 5 to 2 vote. the goal is to prevent so-called zoom bombings or incidents of public comments that are. they're using fake names and they often spew offensive comments when they're talking. these incidents have been happening more and more often. and council members say they have evolved now into serious abuse under the new participants are still allowed to comment on agenda items but could no longer comment during the general public comment period. council members were split on this resolution. >> with everything, there's also good in that. and while i the issue is that remote participation brings. i think really good. i think we have more places, a more diverse

supporters with protect the win for public safety gathering in oakland defending her time as district attorney 2 weeks ago. the alameda county board of supervisors certify the signatures required for recall tuesday evening. they voted that recall will be part of the general election in november. the recall effort coming from a committee called save alameda for everyone da prize addressing what she believes has been misinformation disseminated about her. we will tell the truth and a >> we will counteract the lies and the misinformation campaign that has been amplified by certain folks in the media and a certain people. there's been a whole lot of misinformation. price says she will continue to do her job as district attorney while campaigning saying that the people in 2023 took to the polls vote her in. >> it was the first time in 45 years since there was a contested election. >> the people of alameda county went to the polls to elect a district attorney for

the first time since 9, the mid 1970's in over 45 years. we have not had a contested election. i'm the first non appointed non anointed district attorney in this county in 100 and so the people exercise their democratic right to elect a district attorney and we won that election has missed gifts fair and square with 53% of the vote. >> behind a price, a group of supporters and volunteers. he won this race, parents they're just hating on for no apparent reason she's doing her job. alameda county says combining the recall election with the general election will cost 4 million dollars as opposed to between 15 20 million dollars. it would cost to hold a special election. the decision to go by the 2 was supported by prize price, reiterating that the alameda county registrar of voters did not follow the charter, saying the recall process was in legal.

>> price did not rule out the possibility of a lawsuit saying that her attorneys are evaluating all options right now reporting live in the newsroom to be justice kron. 4 news. tiffany, thank you so much. >> let's talk about our forecast now with this live look outside at sfo and the fog there just watched it real slowly. it's coming in playing. they're going out or landing. unclear. kyla, though, is here. and it's clear that that fog is just to come down. that's going to his role of marine layer, just waiting to come we are mix of sun and clouds here in san francisco and certainly some breezy conditions. as you can see, the trees kind of moving around here. this is very, very studios, aren't they? the embarcadero? 21 miles per hour now in san francisco, it's northwesterly direction on that. when you can see we're up to 21 in fairfield, but 17 in oakland to a pretty breezy around the entire bay area. so just be prepared for that. if you head outside still cool at half, moon bay are those clouds hung on all day. but

the warmth is on in the inner east bay, antioch. now at 83 degrees. 79 in livermore and concord were 75 in san jose can see 63 in oakland he head to the north bay about those at 75. but still 60's in santa rosa and napa. so it's all about where the clouds have been hanging on and where we've got the sunshine in there. high pressure still in control. that's why we are seeing these mostly above average temperatures, particularly inland. we have do little low pressure to the south of us, but you can see here right now we're kind of at the peak where the sunshine is going to be today before we start to get that push back in of the marine layer and you certainly see that as we take this live look from mount tam where you can kind of see maybe sausalito town, they're a little bit. usually you can look across into san francisco, but tonight we see this the marine layer. i'll be back in a little bit. we'll talk more about our 7 day forecast. back to you. all right. coming up here as the fighting in gaza intensifies, more aid. >> to israel could be on the way to have the latest developments on the war between israel and hamas.

surveillance video capturing suspects breaking through a gate and eventually a roll-up door at micro measurements and pacific instrumwnts and conquered the crew. taking a look inside after ramming the entrance only to take off shortly after without stealing anything less than 10 minutes later, it appears the same crew stopped by hsd engineering about a mile and a half away on solano way and did the same thing. i am >> we share what they're looking for. maybe they thought they had the wrong business because got a look inside. but didn't say men arrested. tyler hagan owns hsd a high vacuum repair operation. >> alex, little bit of ski and hagan, our business partners and both co-owned. they're building the first sister companies hit that night down the road manufacturer, high accuracy data systems. i feel very grateful that we just picked up that forklift recently. >> and just chance, it was parked about 2 feet from the

door. and you can pretty much see in the video how the car just makes couple of abrupt stops for. >> you know, when the driver, they obviously have no clue what was going on until the guy peak. little bit off. ski and hagan are offering a $500 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions. in this case, the bill for the doors over $2000, hagan says he will likely pay out of pocket for repairs rather than submit an insurance claim. he fears his coverage could be dropped or see a dramatic increase to his premium. >> if he reports the break, the time and inconvenience. if you secure this, then what they go through the front door to. so what you do. i mean, you know, i mean, there's you can't you can't anything, right? you can just make it. >> more difficult. the license plate on the car used to ram both doors came back stolen. >> concord investigating both cases in concord, philippe djegal, all kron. 4 news. the number of homeless people in alameda county has gone down. the health department says it has dropped by 3%.

>> from the last count in 2022, the total number of homeless people this year is around. 9500 officials say the number of unsheltered people has gone down a total of 11%. the alameda county health department is seeing an increase in the number of homeless people using shelters and moving into temporary housing. the report also reveals that homelessness in oakland has slowed the homeless population. there did increase by 9%. but the increase in the unsheltered population is much less than the trend that was going on from 2015 to 2022. when the city averaged about a 32% increase. kron four's. rob nesbitt just spoke with the alameda county health department about this report and held up all the latest details coming up on kron. 4 news at 5. half moon bay planning just approved some new housing for low-income senior farmworkers. and this is coming after governor gavin newsom threatened legal action over the delay in approving

this plan. the 40 unit affordable housing project will move forward more than a year after the deadliest shooting in the county's history. when the governor met with survivors, he toward well found to be deplorable, living conditions for farmworkers. he has budgeted millions of dollars in funding and resources to make sure those workers received support from the state. dozens of teachers rallying outside of los gatos high school this morning. they're demanding better pay. they say they are the lowest paid in the county and most teachers have to work 2 jobs in order to make ends meet the rally also held at saratoga high school. one educator says the teachers in the district deserve better. it's a great place. >> but it's very hard and i hope the parents realized a majority of us we can't afford to live here. we have to commute to be able to work here, trying to make a living. so that are younger teachers, especially can live in this

area keeping our slice of the pie. >> the los gatos saratoga union high school district sent us a statement in response to the rally. i'll read some of that here. the district is currently in the middle of regular contract negotiations and both with both the district teachers association as well as our classified staff bargaining unit. we look forward to continuing good faith negotiations that are mutually beneficial and fiscally responsible to our community. >> all right. look at the weather. here's what it looks like outside right now across the bay bridge. you can see a little bit of fog there hanging out. it's been pretty close to the coast now. pilots here so we can talk about what's going on outside. yeah, let's do it. so we've got the fog this morning rays going coming back in tonight. and if you look at the golden gate bridge, it's really kind of confluence of both of those things. the marine layer has been hanging out there all day today. the little bit of a breeze going. >> but if you take your eye

all the way to the vacuum, i make out a little bit of sunshine. and if you could kind of just turn right and and look that way, you would see sunshine in san francisco. >> but we are staying cool around the coast and certainly around the bay. san francisco now in the 50's while oakland little sunny and in the 60's san jose's made is the 70, 79 in livermore, concord, santa rosa, about 69 and happening today. obviously very chilly out there because they have the cloud cover. so if you're headed out to the game tonight to watch the giants take on the dodgers, it's going to start off just fine, right about 59 degrees at 6.45. and we're talking about mostly sunny skies. then the marine layer moves in and it's a very different story is going to get cooler faster. and it's also just go to get that bit of moisture in the air. that makes you feel a little chilly and want your jacket. so this is 6.45 when the games start, look what happens as the game goes on starts to move in and we even get a little coastal drizzle going on. and then by tomorrow morning, obviously we're going to be socked in again with the marine layer like we were this morning. i think this looks like could even be a little more pervasive than it was this

morning. now the upside of gptting that marine layer in it does bring a little moisture in that kind of helps us with allergies. a little bit right. kind of tamp things days. that's a little bit of an improvement. so high pressure is in control. that's why we've been getting kind of the above average temperatures for many that are inland as we go over the next couple of days and taking into saturday. now sunday, you start to see where these i south are. misrepresenting temperatures to the cooler ones. are those yellows and greens. those start to move in a little bit on sunday into monday because low pressure is dipping in just a tiny bit. now it's not a big pronounced difference, but you can see a little bit here as we look at the temperatures, the kind of go down just a touch as we roll into the weekend and into next week. i'll be back in a bit. we'll talk more about that with your seven-day forecast. back to you. all right. still ahead, inflation cooling down just a bit. the latest findings from the labor department. >> the new scam that's making the rounds that could land taxpayers in some hot water.

your money this afternoon. inflation is just a little bit. last month. the labor department just released the consumer price index for april. it shows inflation climbed. >> to 3.4% overall compared to a year ago. however, it's still down a 10th of a point from march. the slight decline in april is an encouraging sign for the economy since inflation was on the rise for the 3 months before. and the data from today is showing that core inflation, which is more closely watched by the

fed rose to 3.6% in april. but that's down two-tenths of a point from march. wall street will not be watching to see if that's going to be enough for the fed to consider an interest rate cut. another beloved san francisco restaurant has shut its doors for good. the presidio social club served its last meal on mother's day. the founder put a statement on the restaurant's website saying that this announcement is coming with regret and sorrow adding it has been an honor to serve the community. the irs warning people about falling for tax preparers who claim that they can help you get some extra cash on your refund. you could face a lot of trouble for filing a fake tax return. the irs is warning americans not to fall for tax scammers telling them that they can use the fuel tax or the sick family leave or the household employment tax credits when they do not qualify and some taxpayers also falsely claim fictional

the new harvey milk terminal at san francisco international airport. kron 4 s charles clifford has an exclusive look. >> sfo terminal one has been under construction for years. most of it is already open. but there are still a few large sections that are under construction. and today the airport gave the media a tour inside the new harvey milk terminal at sfo. on wednesday, crews were putting the finishing touches on what has been a project almost 10 years in the making. once the final phase of the work is completed here, travelers will find new shops, restaurants, art displays new ticket counters. >> and 2 new airplane gates for a total of 27 gates, both alaska and delta airlines plan to move their operations into this terminal later this year. there will also be a brand-new second-floor security checkpoint. that's above the ground floor, security checkpoint. the idea is that travelers walking over the bridge from the parking garage, an airtrain. can go directly through security without needing to go

downstairs. the completion of the work will also fully link the harvey milk terminal to the rest of the airport, allowing people to walk between terminals both before and after they go through security. the entire harvey milk terminal project cost about 2.5 billion dollars. but the airport believes in the long run it will be worth the hefty price to. >> if we really invest heavily in the features, the amenities, the experience inside the terminal. we get that back in the form of people are spending more money in the terminal there, shopping and dining more. they're spending more time enjoying their stay in the terminals. >> the new harvey milk terminal is set to open to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony on june. 11th. now once work is completed here at terminal one, the airport plans to focus on renovations of terminal 3. >> but for now at sfo, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> new at 3, a family in the east bay is asking community members for help finding a man who escaped from a san leandro hospital. 25 year-old dennis

child was a patient at the john george psychiatric hospital. his brother tells kron 4 news while he was being transferred to san leandro hospital last month. he ran away. he's been missing now since april 23rd. he graduated from brown university and was a gates millennial scholar. his family is not sure how he was able to run away from security, but they're worried about him. and they say that he was last seen south of salinas. he has black hair, brown eyes and is 5 feet. 6 inches tall. if you know he is contact authorities. a stolen bike has led benicia police to get some weapons off of the streets. officers discovered 2 guns and ar 15 and gun parts while responding to a report of a stolen bike on west 7th street. and cheryl drive monday afternoon. they say 2 men were behind that fact and they were arrested. one of them cited and released. the other confess, though, to having drugs and weapons inside of his car. he was then taken to the county jail on multiple felony charges. all

right. this video that we're going to show you now is going viral on tiktok it showing the charging cables that have been cut at a tesla charging station. this is in vallejo. the thieves are believed to have targeted the charging stations to get the copper from the cables and all the charging stations are now back in service. but kron 4, sarah stinson spoke with the man who posted that video and she has the details. >> all the charging josh peck clear posted this now viral tiktok showing tesla charging cables slashed in stolen from multiple charging stalls on sunday. this happening at a tesla supercharger station in vallejo. >> behind the target on admiral callaghan lane. and i noticed that only at. >> couple other remaining a tesla charging stations had not been cut. >> after looking at one of the cut cables, becker says he knew exactly what happened. the suns have a little copper poor so i catch him it spent

17 years investigating these kinds of crime we would find generators in the back of big box retailers stripped of their copper right now. copper sells for $3, a pound on average and you get up to around 10 to 12 miles. and you're looking to push probably 100 pounds. >> tesla quickly replace the charging cables on monday. >> but 8 stalls remained offline until tuesday night at 7 o'clock. yes, i'm glad didn't take all of the copper cause. >> i actually was pretty low right now. i had like outlets. so that would be pretty bad as that some push. and i hope it doesn't happen again. and that clears tiktok got nearly 1 million views in just 48 hours. he says while it's angered a lot of people, he wants everyone to know that stealing copper is not a fast track to cash. you really had to work hard and then. >> take it to a, you know, recycling center. god knows how far down the road strip it just a symptom of. >> how >> desperate someone can be and how are they're willing to

work to put a couple of dollars on the table? the tesla charges are back online and working. >> says the security guard is the one who filed a police report. we reached out to vallejo police, but we did not hear back in time for this report. we have seen security monitoring the station. i'm sara stinson reporting in vallejo kron. 4 news. >> for the first time in california history, chronic wasting disease or cwd has been detected in the states deer population. it has been discovered in 2 deer, one madera on the new counties. this follows an testing earlier this month during kron for news at noon, i spoke with the california department of fish and wildlife about what this disease means for our deer population. >> it's really slow progression. and it's a slow degenerative disease of deer so does affect the brain. >> kind of highlighted in that. and name chronic wasting disease. they condition over time.

and sunday. so pretty nice. meanwhile, bring it back to the bay. we've had a pretty nice day ourselves, but it has been cool out at the coast because of that marine layer. and so you see that with happen based temperature, right? just 55 degrees. san francisco, just 60. but as you move inland, you start to see these temperatures really start to warm up to the tune of some low 80's. if you're out in antioch for pittsburgh, upper 70's in concord and livermore, mid 70's in san jose. and as you can see, the north face kind of a split there. we've gotten some of that marine layer in there, too. want to show you quickly, your extended forecast just to show you that you're going to have that fog in the morning and then the sun in the afternoon and were pretty consistent over the next 7 days. but lots of sunshine. a beautiful weekend on tap, as you can see here. so if you have outdoor plans, you should have any problems on saturday and sunday and even into next week. we're just slightly cooler. frankly, we should be about 75 degrees inland this time of year. still above average for quite a few days. back to you. hundreds of people took to the state capitol today urging governor

gavin newsom to reverse his proposal to cut billions of dollars from the state budget. >> as our capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports, the governor says the cuts must be made to close that multibillion dollar deficit. but some say this is going to come at a cost to everyday californians. >> well, just take a look at all of the people here who came to capitol park. they say the governor's proposed budget cuts will have real-life consequences and now they're urging him to change courts. >> some 200 people making their voices loud and clear in front of the state capitol. all to urge governor gavin newsom to reconsider his proposal to cut billions of dollars from the state budget. was here say they are in newsom's plan to cut more than 18 billion dollars from state programs. he says the cuts are necessary to close a projected 27.6 billion dollar deficit. but attendees are concerned. newsom's proposal includes

>> the faa is investigating after a jet owned by former president trump hit another private plane at a florida airport. trump's boeing 7.57. landed sunday morning at west palm beach and while it was taxiing, his aircraft wing clipped the rear elevator of a park vista jet. it's unclear whether the former president was on the plane. no one was hurt. the truck driver accused of killing 8 people and injuring dozens more in a crash in florida is now going to be held without bond. 41 year-old bryan howard sideswiped a bus transporting farm workers causing the bus to travel off of the highway and then overturned. troopers say that howard was under the influence at the time of the crash. he's now been charged with 8 counts of dui manslaughter. court documents are shut showing that howard had a lengthy bad driving record dating all the way back to 2006, including careless driving driving without a license and leaving the scene

61 in santa barbara. but we're at 92 in sacramento and 96 in reading reading warmer than las vegas right now. it's just sitting at 93 degrees locally here as a mentor or cool out of the coast for obvious reasons. right? the marine layer is hung on there just in the 50's. but the nice 70's around parts of the bay that are kind of more inland. it certainly see a few 80's out there, too, including fairfield. now and pittsburgh. napa. just it's 68 69 in santa rosa. but 90 in kelsey, though, look at that. so there's some heat there. we're getting breezy. this isn't picking up as we go throughout the afternoon. we've got a bit of a northwest flow going on. you can see it at 21 miles per hour in san francisco and fairfield, but we're in the teens in many spots across the bay. so tonight it will be all about that marine layer once again as we start to see it expanded, it rolled in. and what that means is that we start to get a little cooler to get into the evening. you get that moisture in the air. you get that drizzle on the coast and you wake up tomorrow and you're likely going to if you're stockton today, socked

california's 2 senators have introduced a proposal that would rename the visitor center. >> at joshua tree national park to honor the late senator dianne feinstein. the legislation authored by senators alex padilla and the phones of butler will be heard in the senate and if approved the cottonwood visitor center near high protection act which officially designated joshua tree as a national park in 1994. starting later on this month. low income families can visit the monterey bay aquarium for free. this is thanks to the museums for all program that started in 2014. any food stamp recipients can access the aquarium by card and a photo id with a p- matching name and then they can bring up to 3 guests for free. this program starts may 27th just in time to kick off pilots here with what summer
