us on monday. i'm sorry. and i'm james waking up this morning to actually some pretty pleasant too much in the way. i've got nothing for i use the wipers right when i got the car because i'm not in the so i can tell you that was necessary, john. yeah, a little too in my car this morning to i had a tear that life around for a second. but other than it was pretty nice and smooth getting into work this morning behind me at the golden gate bridge lighting up under what is such a clear morning so far. take a look at the south bay. just a sunnier skies. we're not talking a lot of fog this morning, which is a nice know for your monday morning drive into work. we're seeing good visibility from the coast to our inland areas. also not all that breezy. so this is a good set up. temperatures are in the 40's to 50's currently san mateo at 46 degrees. oakland, redwood city berkeley at 51. so a fairly mild start to this morning. temperatures later on today. mostly in the 70's, although a few low 80's for some inland spots. i'll get to the rest of your forecast as

we go as for the roads right now, we are looking at some pretty smooth conditions out there as you're heading on to the bay bridge this morning. we are looking at a 14 minute drive across the span. as for the san mateo bridge, 13 minutes to get you across the richmond, sandra fell and the golden gate also looking nice and clear both in the skies and on the span's themselves. back to you. thanks a lot, john. 6 o'clock in our developing stories, the south bay where police shot and critically injured a gunman in san jose at a kroger's. michael thomas on the story for us live in san jose this morning. >> michael, what happened? >> well, they're still an active scene here this morning. you can see behind me there's still a few cop cars and also tape that is closed off of some of this area. and to give you more of a perspective of where we are, we've got a map up on your screens. you can see right at the corner of comer drive and capitol expressway. it happened yesterday at around 4 o'clock. what we know now is that no san jose police

officers were involved in this shooting. however, a man who was opening fire was and he's in the hospital this morning with life-threatening injuries. this is video actually from the scenes. you can see again happened yesterday at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. and there were dozens of police cars here. it happened outside of what appears to be an apartment complex. police say they received calls about a man who was actively shooting a firearm. when they arrived, he was still doing so that man was shot by san jose police causing a life-threatening injuries. and again, in the hospital this morning, he was taken to one of those nearby hospitals. his firearm was obtained by police in the investigation is still ongoing. back out here live. you can see. comer. try drive that kind of loops around almost you. and so what happened where we're pointing the camera at now and they have both sides of the street currently blocked off. and again, it is an apartment complex. so we're expecting to hear more from police later this morning. and of course, we're going to try to talk to some neighbors at some point

to get more details on what exactly happened. but that's a very latest here in san jose. i will send it back to you in the studio for now. >> thank you, michael. time now 6, 0, to the sonoma county sheriff's department has arrested a man for a fatal shooting that happened a 2 year-old child was killed in lake county on march 23rd in clear lake 70 miles north of petaluma clearlake. police have issued a warrant for 31 year-old fernando lugo garcia and then he was arrested in petaluma last week at the sonoma county sheriff's department of to the lake county jail. no bail set 603, right now. and the man who attacked paul pelosi in his home in san francisco in 2022. hit with a hammer. he's going to be re-sentenced later this month. david de pap was convicted and got a 30 year prison sentence last friday. the federal court said it did not give dipak the chance to make a statement, though. and that is required by federal federal criminal procedures

before sentencing prosecutors notified the court of this mistake and the air is unlikely to affect his sentence. that does give him the chance ask for leniency. the hearing resumes may 28th and then even though that is done and he's convicted, he still faces separate state charges for that attack in jury selection for that trial is set for wednesday. >> 603, is the time. and a sad morning for raider nation. mister rader himself, jim otto died yesterday. the hall of fame center join the team for its first season in the american football league. back in 1960, never missed a game. he competed in 210 consecutive regular season games and 308 straight total contest despite undergoing 9 operations on his knees during his playing career. was 86 years old. happening now, fairfield has launched its click it or ticket campaign ahead of memorial day. police department says the campaign is supposed to remind drivers

to buckle up and also secure their children in proper car seats. they say drivers will see officers on patrol looking for those who aren't wearing their seat belts during this campaign, which, by the way, is set to run through june 2nd. so from now until june 2nd, police say they're also looking for cars where children aren't secured properly in their car seats or aren't in the right seat for their age. the department says the number of people killed in california crashes who weren't wearing seat belts increased by more than 12% in 2021. 604. >> was rescued when he was thrown from his car. it went over a cliff on the sonoma coast and yesterday morning and the jeweled gold smyers great area of highway one near jenner. look at this rescue. a ranger found the car about 200 feet off of the roadway. there and it was only stopped by a big tree. that's what kept it from rolling and crashing further down the cliff. and it did, as you can see there while how precariously placed it was their hanging

basically, if anyone seen it, you know, it could stay there forever. and this guy would have been rescued, but he was he was actually ejected from the car. and it took about 45 minutes. but they did find him. he was in a patch of brush 350 feet down from where the car crash. look at this. the areas. he was hurt. he was flown to the hospital. he's expected to case can recover from that, which is -pincredible. it's 605, right now. and a state bill to that would have scrutinized a new electricity charge for californians. it's not going to move forward. the assembly appropriations committee killed this measure last friday. the public utilities commission, which is made by governor newsom appointees. they're not elected. they approved a new fixed of $24.15 a month for customers last week to be tacked on. on top of your electricity bill. and in exchange for the new fee pg and e and the other utilities

are going to lower the power rates by a little bit. california power the second highest in the nation right now. this new fee, though, sparked outrage and that's by the bill was introduced in the state legislature, but it's dead now in the committee. didn't explain why they killed >> 606, on the clock. and in the east bay, teachers in contra costa county have reached a tentative agreement now with the office of education over a new contract. the contra costa county school educators association will now get a raise starting on july. 1st, once it's ratified and that will include a 6% raise retroactive to last july. plus, a one percent raise for this year. the agreement allows the salary for ne% school for the new school year to be renegotiated for a cost of living adjustment. >> 607. right now and more than 21,000 people participated in the bay to breakers, ok, there's some bees. just look at all the chefs looking at costumes, some in running for real. they wanted to win this race. a lot

of fun stuff going on. we do it every year. we folks out there having a good time and kron four's. sara stinson was there among them. >> thousands of people woke up early sunday for bay to breakers. race is 113 year-old tradition in san francisco. you know, i think it's probably one of the longstanding traditions in san francisco participants gathered on main street around 8 in the morning to walk jog and run to ocean beach on the other end of the city, was like super positive energy. it's his first. is. yeah, it was fantastic time. definitely saw all of san francisco come together. a lot of the clock ticked rooms, the costumes at the quirky 12 k run never disappoint this san francisco couple. gina and brad dressed up as hot dogs. we money and really recognizable. we literally ran will raise and everyone was dog and my kids

than ever. and it's just plain that these girls dressed up as the inflatable tube man. often people dress up in group costumes, whether it be traffic cones or minions was really fun. everyone came out outfits, a super >> yeah. really good vibe. lots of partying on the side. bay to breakers at its peak used to be the largest road race in the world with 100,000 people participating. race director kyle meyers says they're starting to see registration numbers rebound from the pandemic. 21,000 people registered this year, which is 20% from last year. so i'm not quite. >> pre-pandemic numbers yet, but definitely trending in the right direction. meyer says they work to ensure everyone is safe while having fun with alcohol checkpoints along the route and patrols. yeah, we have our own private security companies and then we work with very, very closely with sfpd crews could be seen cleaning up as people continued to party in the panhandle.

wind. it's not much of a factor and we are hardly seeing any sort of breeze to the golden gate this morning. some not a lot to be transporting any fog inland. temperatures are going to be solidly in the 60's for san francisco and even right along the coastline. so actually a pretty nice day towards the coast. temps elsewhere, mostly in the 70's, same carlos through palo alto. at 75 south bay. temperatures just shy of 80 degrees, seeing those same cupertino at 78 east bay times. also mostly in the 70's today, oakland at 72 danville, in walnut creek at 79, only a few low 80's like in concord, napa, as well as antioch. tomorrow is going to be the warmest day of the forecast as high pressure builds overhead and then we ease off temperatures again. this is a cool day forecast by next weekend. daytime highs inland are only in the 70's. back to you. >> look at the traffic. yeah. so we're looking right now at the bay bridge where the sun is up. the traffic is also building. you can see the

backup, their stride stretching back towards the maze. 14 minutes to get from oakland into san francisco right now. the san mateo bridge moving well, you're westbound 90 to ride on the right hand side. there. humming along at the limit. no major problems that are slowing down on the span itself. the richmond, sandra fell bridge year west bound 5.80, right across the san pablo bay. looking good. it's a little bit of a slowdown about 8 minutes or so to get through the toll plaza and across the span in different county and then lastly, we've got our golden gate bridge. you're southbound 1, one, right? looking good. no major problems, slowing it down. so it's just 19 minutes to get from the bottom down into san francisco. we're weather and traffic in a bit. now, let's get back to the news. and in the north bay, man has been arrested now on suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with a hit and run crash in petaluma that crash happened on east washington street just after 1 o'clock this morning are 1 o'clock in the morning on sunday. police say the crash involved 2 cars that a man and a woman were injured when officers got to the scene, they say they saw a

different man identified as frank monticello running into the creek. that runs between east washington and maria dry. they say a resident told them the monticello was hiding in their backyard for a time and then jumped the fence. officers eventually found him hiding in the creek. police have arrested him on multiple charges. in the east bay. the chp has arrested a suspect now connection with a fatal hit and run in san leandro. police say the driver hit and killed someone wednesday night. that victim was found lying in the street at a welding boulevard and embers way. police say they later found the car wanted in connection with that hit and run on friday. the suspect was booked into the santa rita jail bail now set at $225,000. time now 6, 26 people in antioch are recovering after a car crash that happened on highway 4 near delta gateway boulevard. >> was around 2 o'clock on saturday that this collision happened. all of the westbound lanes had to close while contra costa fire was there

and handle that. 6 people had to be rushed to the hospital. we're not sure of their condition. palo alto police are investigating a robbery of another mail carrier. a mail carrier was robbed thursday in the parking lot of the southwood apartments on middlefield road. it was a 60 year-old postal worker delivering the mail. 2 men approached him and they demanded his postal keys and his personal staff. now the postal worker turned over the keys but refused to give up his personal items. then there was a fist fight after that. and the robbers knocked him to the ground. he was injured and then the 2 robbers took off in an older model. nissan altima. well, california forever. the group working to build a new city up in solano county says they can provide more than >> 15,000 jobs in the next decade. they say they can bring employers from multiple sectors for everyone ranging from construction companies to ai. fact, they released a list

>> we are back 6.24. is the time in a new study shows that san jose is the top city. >> for small businesses not just in california, but in the country. the analysis done by financing company biz. 2 credit look at multiple factors, including annual earnings credit scores the age of the businesses they surveyed these businesses in 2023. to determine the winner. the study found that san jose had 66,000 businesses and employed more than 430,000 workers. meantime, san francisco also ranked it took the second spot on the list this year. meantiae, san jose mayor matt mahan took to x to sathat forbes has also ranks san jose as the top city as well. mayor mahan wrote, quote, we are woi every day to create a cleaner, safer city for all. when we get the basics, right, we make it easier for our businesses to thrive. end quote. meantime,

san jose state students are getting ready to walk the stage. the university's graduation ceremony will begin on wednesday and on friday, the commencement will take place at the provident credit union event center. and that comes as many colleges don't forget, have decided to cancel or change commencement ceremonies because of ongoing protests. earlier last week. you may remember students at san jose state camped out on campus as part of those nationwide college protests. >> news of headliners for san francisco's carnival festival have been unveiled at a two-day festival featuring. >> 60 musical performances, including noel torres blanca and frank o to name just a few. obviously they're 60 different performances. the event is a yearly celebration of latin american and caribbean culture. the festival is in the mission district. and in addition to music, you can see obviously going to be dancing and there's food and crafts and

daly city police have arrested a woman for stealing money from an old navy cash register. police say the theft happened inside the ceremony shopping center earlier this month. the woman apparently through that cash register to the ground several times until it broke open. and she made off with about $300. she was later detained at a nearby store. police arrested her and booked her for that robbery. >> time now is 6.30, for the north bay. a woman was shot and killed in valais. whoa. that happened saturday night on redwood parkway near hands. park when police got there, they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds and the woman died at the scene. the man was taken to the hospital. he's expected to survive right now. they're investigating the motive and circumstances. in the east bay, antioch, police have identified a man who was found dead last week. he was found on the sidewalk on country hills drive and that is where they found the body.
