factor in your morning commute. we do have some winds that are higher elevations, but not what we're going to be noticing as we're driving and temperatures are in the 40's to 50's right now. concord and fairfield at 54 dublin livermore at 50 was santa rosa at 47 after a cool start. daytime highs later today. 70's to low 80's for ya. little bit warmer than yesterday. was talking more in this pretty nice monday forecast. still ahead, back to you. all right. let's take at all those people so they were up in it's not like it's a huge backup. but you can just see have company. >> think of it that when it's nicer company at the bay bridge. teams company 17 minutes from the maze. you've got plenty of company equal time. 17 minutes here in san mateo on the westbound 92 side of the bridge there on the right hand side. and this spot that that has been full of people is not a backup. it's just there's a lot of people. the russian center fell bridge. so that's the indicator i use because normally the first couple hours of the morning show, this is pretty quiet. and the golden gate bridge is pretty quiet at this minute. 21

minutes, which is the actual drive time. if you're going to speed limit from highway 37 down to the tolls. oh, by the way, 37 reopen this morning. member of the weekend was closed for >> ok, back to the news. now. 71 the time developing story out of the south bay where police shoot and critically injured a gunman in san jose kron four's. michael thomas is live there with more on what happened. michael? >> well, it's still an active scene here about the core of story road in homer drive. take a look. police not only have comber road blocked off, but also some of the surrounding shopping center's. and just to give you an idea, they are not allowing people in and out of this street who live here and you can see it in front of an apartment complex to give you a better idea of exactly where we are. take a look. this is a map. it's in east san jose. it's on comer drive. it's near the intersection of story road in capitol expressway. and to give you a look at what the scene out was looking like yesterday. this is video on your screen. it happened at around 4 o'clock in the evening. police say they

received calls about a man who was actively shooting a firearm. when they arrived. he was doing just that. that man was shot by san jose police causing serious injuries. he was taken to a nearby hospital and his firearm was obtained by police. as of this morning. that investigation is still ongoing. and you can see back out here live police talking to a few neighbors. and again, this road is completely closed off. have not been given any more detail regarding the man who was shot or his condition this as we get more, we'll continue to keep you updated. we have been trying to speak with neighbors, but again, nobody is allowed in or out of this street. so there's about one or 2 people who are waiting in their cars this morning trying to get back to their home. but they're not allowed to go into that street. and here there's a tropicana liquor, the grocery beer and wine outlet that is open. however, their entire parking lot is blocked off. so once we learn more this morning, we will continue to keep you updated. all send it back to live in the studio for now. thank you, michael.

>> it's 703. and a man has been arrested for a fatal shooting. that happened where a 2 year-old died. this happened march 23rd in clear lake which is 70 miles north of petaluma. the police issued a warrant for 31 year-old fernando lugo garcia and he was arrested in petaluma last week for this killing that happened. he is now in jail with no bond set. the man who was convicted of attacking paul pelosi in san francisco at his home in francisco with a hammer that happened in 2022, he is going to be sentenced because what happened is, as you know, david de pap got a 30 year prison sentence. last friday. we reported that. but the federal court said that it didn't give him the chance to make a statement. and that's a requirement for federal criminal procedures. they've been notified the court of this mistake and the air is unlikely to affect the 30 year sentence that he got. but it

does give him a chance to speak and asked for leniency. that will happen on may. 28 dip happes still faces a separate trial on state charges and the jury selection for that is this wednesday. >> well, sad morning for raider nation fans, mister rader himself, jim otto died yesterday. the hall of fame center join the team in its first season in the american football league. back in 1960, never missed a game. he was in 210 consecutive regular season games and 308 straight total contests despite undergoing 9 operations on his knees during his career. jim auto was 86 years old. happening right now, fairfield has launched its click it or ticket campaign ahead of memorial day. the police department says the campaign is supposed to remind drivers to buckle up, then also secure their children in proper car seats. so they say drivers are going to see police on patrol looking for those who aren't wearing their seat belts during this campaign, which, by the way, runs through june

2nd, police say they're also looking for cars where children either aren't properly secured in car seats or aren't in the right seat for their age. the department says the number of people who died in california crashes who weren't wearing their seatbelts actually went up y more than 12 percent back in 2021. >> 705. and a man is rescued after being thrown from his car that went over a cliff. in sonoma off of the coast there. look at this. there he is being hosted to safety. he crashed yesterday morning in the jeweled gold myers, great area of highway one near jenner. the car went flying and a ranger spotted about the car about 200 feet down from the roadway and the car was stopped. look, there by this giant tree. so it didn't go for the down the cliff, but the guy was ejected. so he went flying and the ranger and cruise ended up searching. they searched for in the woods in bush is there for almost an hour and then they located him. he was lying in a patch of brush at the bottom of tree

was about 350 feet away and down from the crash site. it's a pretty credible that they able able to fly him to the hospital and he is expected recover. well, it looks like a pg e and other utilities are going to get the green light as they want to charge an extra 24 bucks a month as a fee. >> not based on how much electricity use this bill that would have scrutinized the electricity fee isn't not moving forward. the assembly appropriations committee killed it on friday. the peuc which is made up of governor newsom appointees, not elected officials. they approve this new fixed rate charge of 24 15 per month to your bill. and in exchange, they said they were going to lower the rates for power. like for kilowatt hours just a little bit because california power rates are the second highest in the nation. but the new fee, you know, it goes no matter how much you use sparked outrage for this.

the committee did not explain why they dropped it. >> in the east bay, teachers in contra costa county now have reached a tentative agreement with the office of education over a new contract. the contra costa county school educators association will get a raise starting on july. 1st, once it's ratified and that will include a 6% raise retroactive to last july. plus, a one percent raise for this year. the agreement allows the salary for next school year to be renegotiated for a cost of living adjustment. >> it's 707, and. >> and the bay to breakers is in the books now more than 21,000 people ran in the annual foot race through san francisco. you can see a lot of them wearing costumes as they do every year. just a fun time had by all prof or sara stinson was actually in the middle of all of that. >> thousands of people woke up early sunday for bay to breakers. race is 113 year-old tradition in san francisco. you know, i think it's probably one of the

longstanding traditions in san francisco participants gathered on main street around 8 in the morning to walk jog and run to ocean beach on the other end of the city, was like super positive energy. it's his first is yeah, it was fantastic time. definitely saw all of san francisco come together. a lot of clock ticked rooms, the costumes at the quirky 12 k run never disappoint this san francisco couple. gina and brad dre-sed up as hot dogs. we money and really recognizable really ran the whole race. and everyone was dog and my kids than ever. and it's just plain that these girls dressed up as the inflatable tube man. often people dress up in group costumes, whether it be traffic cones or minions was really fun. everyone came out out it's a super >> yeah, really good vibe. lots of partying on the side. bay to breakers at its peak used to be the largest road

race in the world with 100,000 people participating. race director kyle buyers says they're starting to see registration numbers rebound from the pandemic. 21,000 people registered this year, which is after back, you know, 20% from last year. so not quite. >> pre-pandemic numbers yet, but definitely trending in the right direction. meyer says they work to ensure everyone is safe while having fun with alcohol checkpoints along the route and patrols. yeah, we have our own private security companies and then we work with very, very closely with sfpd crews could be seen cleaning up as people continued to party in the panhandle. >> need ow. and everyone was dancing and having that, have these long-standing traditions are all about celebrating vibrant city. i fell in love with it. when i moved here, i just think it's one of those things that just kind of brings the city together. we're giants fans and there was a dodger fan that we made friends list. so if you can one thing to breakers is that

what's the weather looking it's wild. how cool it's going to be in some of those spots like napa 70's. it's going to be really comfy. >> this is your camera situated along highway. 24 a little further inland. got that sunshine up about the cars are moving in so does that coverage is likes to pause, but we are looking at radar showing you those clear skies that we're seeing across the bay area. >> high pressure right there behind me did move out of the way. quick enough, but it is creating just enough of a push northward of the jet stream to keep any storm tracks away from us. so we are remaining consistently drive-thru this forecast. the high pressure does building a little bit more tomorrow as it does temperatures. well, see a little bit of a boost along with it. now, futurecast shows relatively calm winds today. not a lot of cloud cover marine layer just present enough to keep us moderated. nothing too warm. nothing too windy. a super pleasant monday to start the week. 60's for your highs in sf as well as at the coastline. pretty nice day

at the coast. it's not all that windy out there. so a good day to head that direction. a lot of 70's along the bay shore as well as the south bay, upper 70's for you. san jose and santa clara at 78 east bay temperatures mid 70's along the east bay shoreline close to 80, if not getting to those 80's further inland like in concord, antioch, back and delivered in napa today is going to be one of the warmer days of this forecast. you can see after tomorrow the general trend of weather is downward into the 70's at the warmest by this upcoming weekend with some 60's along the bay shore. so definitely nothing too terribly warm ahead in the near future. back to you. all right. let's take a look at the traffic. we're going to go reverse direction here because we're the quietest spot first, which is the golden gate bridge. >> which looks really good right now. although 101, to get to this southbound just a little bit of traffic at 25 minutes. now it's 12 minutes. so actually the commutes got. these are here at the richmond center fell bridge taking you from the east bay marion

can bring employers from multiple sectors for everyone said they're saying ranging from construction companies to ai. they released a list of the companies that they say they are committed to bringing in and then are already proposing having something in the city that will, you know, be ready to hire. so there's robotics company. there's all these different companies that say they are committed that they wanted do this. now we're still a few years away from them. breaking ground, california forever says that some of these companies have already started their in negotiations right now for their terms of doing business there will be you know, contracts in construction and is all got to be a ballot measure, though, that has to be on this november about still these a lot of approval. they're jumping through the hoops and just kind of releasing more and more information to try to get the votes they need to make it a reality. >> well, a program in california is now using gift

cards to combat drug addiction. the state is spending one 60 million dollars in this effort. and officials say it's working in the coming fiscal year. california is expected to allocate 61 million dollars to the program which focuses on addictions, including meth and cocaine. so here's how it works to start out. patients must show up to their designated clinic twice a week to provide a urine sample. and if they're clean, they receive a small stipend on the gift card that increases as they continue. and if they fail, well, there are no consequences. there's just encouraged to show up and start again. now the approach is called contingency management, which is based around rewarding people for behavior instead of punishing them for it. since california's pilot program launched back in april, 19 counties throughout the state enrolled almost 3,000 participants. we spoke to a program director at a treatment facility in nevada county here in california who admits the program doesn't work for all patients, but says it's another tool to

>> back at 7.25. in the north bay, a man has been arrested suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with a hit and run chase or a crash

in petaluma. so this crash happened on east washington street a little after 1 o'clock sunday morning. police say the crash involved 2 cars, a man and a woman were involved. they were hurt when officers got on scene, they say they saw a different man, though, identified later as frank monticello running into a creek that runs between east washington street and maria drive. they say resident told them to monticello was actually hiding in their backyard for a time and then jumped the fence. police eventually found him hiding in the creek. they say he's now arrested and facing multiple charges. in the east bay. the chp arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit and run in san leandro. officers say the driver hit and killed someone wednesday night. the victim was found lying in the street at boulevard and embers way. police say they later found the car wanted in connection with that hit and run on friday. the suspect has since been booked into the santa rita jail and is now being held on $125,000. bond. >> it's 7.26. and and we want to show you the scene of a

for this week, john? so we have a brief a jump in temperatures today tomorrow and wednesday will be our warmest days. and then we had actually cool down things into the 70's for some of our inland areas on into next weekend. has been a cooler than average month for a lot of us. you look outside at san jose this morning. daytime highs later today will be in the upper 70's paired with that sunshine. definitely a a day for you. we're not seeing any cloud cover really across the region, which is certainly nice and at the coastline, even some relatively calm winds. so this is a very pleasant start to the week. temperatures right now are in the 40's 50's to low 60's brentwood as well as vacaville at 61 to 64 degrees sf and oakland at 53 right now later on today, mostly 70's, a few low 80's in the forecast. i'm breaking down. everything you got to know for the rest of it. still ahead, back to you. >> thanks a lot of 7.30, right now and we want to get a look at the commute because the traffic has been pretty consistent all around the bay this morning with a lot of people up early and you can

see the company that have here at the maze over the bay bridge into san francisco about 18 minutes at this point. and let's take a look at the san mateo bridge and you can see this one is now 21 minutes. so that's grown just by a couple of minutes as the commute has got more crowded there. you still see the cars moving pretty good there. and all 3 lanes of traffic w stbound the right hand side. >> and the traffic has gotten a little bit lighter here at the richmond center fell bridge 15 minutes now to head over from richmond in december fell. and then if you're working your way through marin county down to this spot on the golden gate bridge, the commute is gotten slower through moraine county starting at highway 37 in novato and down to this spot. it's 32 minutes now. >> to developing news in the south bay where police shoot and critically injure a gunman in san jose kron four's. michael thomas is live. and michael, tell us what happened. what we know right? >> well, more than 12 hours later, police continue to investigate the scene. take a look the corner of homer drive

and story road. you can see police have the street blocked off with multiple units as they speak with neighbors in search for evidence outside of an apartment complex. and you can see the shopping center's nearby also closed off. you can see that pep boys completely taped off with caution tape. and to give you a better idea of exactly where we are. we've got a map up on your screen. it's in east san jose on homer drive. that's near the main intersection of story road and capitol expressway. and this is video we have from yesterday scene at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. you can see dozens of police vehicles outside of that apartment complex. police say they received calls about a man who was actively shooting after arriving. police did shoot the man causing him serious injuries. he was taken to a nearby hospital and remains there this morning. we haven't gotten any updates on his condition for the details of what may have caused the incident. police say no officers were injured during this incident and the department is expected to hold a press conference later today. as of now, comer drive remains closed off along with those surrounding shopping

center's. and when it comes to neighbors being able to go in and out to get to their homes, will they're not able to there multiple cars out here. nobody has been willing to chat with this quite yet, but they are waiting to be let back into comer drive. i would assume that police are possibly looking for maybe shell casings or anything as they did report that the man was opening fire. but again, we haven't learned any major details as of yet. so as of now, this is all that we know, but we will continue to be here on the scene and we will keep you updated at very latest reporting in san jose and michael thomas story. and james, we'll send it back to you. thank you, michael. >> 7.33 is the time in the east bay, a historic oakland church damaged in a fire and you can there they damage that they have to recover from. and it's going to take a lot of money. and so the pastor is asking the community to pitch in concourse. theresa has their story. >> to the >> experience. >> you deal with that a lot and consoling people that went through it. when that happens

>> pastor lacey says that he and a parishioner grabbed fire extinguishers, but the flames were fears. i spoke with pastor lazy as he returned from getting food for workers, clearing the burned debris. >> westerly shares of the church is an historic landmark. fact, the history of the church. >> 1916, it was built. by the african american episcopal church. to provide support for earthquake victims of san francisco in 19. 0, 6, and it has always been. community service center. >> he and each day they help the community with meals. and we're gearing up to help west oakland residents with a summer lunch program for children. the building is restricted free use temporarily faster. lacey says that they want to rebuild and continue to serve the community. pastor lacey says that they helped service outside in the parking lot last weekend. >> they have set up a gofundme account, but it will take a lot to recover.

>> our engineers actually looking at the project and there they're in the hundreds of thousands. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> theresa kron, 4 news at 7.35. and another mail carrier has been robbed in the bay area. it happened thursday. >> in the parking lot of the southwood apartments on middlefield road in palo alto. a 60 year-old postal worker was delivering mail when 2 men approached him, they demanded his postal keys and his personal belongings. now he turned over the keys, but he refused to give up his personal items and that's when a fist fight broke out. there was a struggle. the the robbers knocked him to the ground and injured him. and those 2 robbers took off in an older model. nissan altima. >> well, the california highway patrol canine sniffed out more than 500 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop in san francisco. chp says the

officer stopped the driver for a mechanical violation on westbound 80 last week. and then turns out the driver didn't have a license. so that person was detained and the canine went to work, sniffed out the car and found a look at this. you can see on the right-hand side there, 500 grams of fentanyl 158 grams of meth, 73 grams of heroin. and 80 grams of xanax. was booked into jail, of course, now facing multiple charges. on the peninsula. daly city police arrested a woman for stealing money from an old maybe cash register. this happened. police say the theft was inside the ceremony shopping center earlier this month. the woman apparently through the cash register to the ground several times until it cracked open. and then she grabbed the $300. it was in it and ran off. she was, however, later detained at a nearby store. police have arrested her book turnout for robbery. >> its 7.37 in the north bay, a woman was shot and killed in vallejo. it happened late
