was homeless and had his problems. but he was kind to others. somebody really kind of, you know, pay mine would always help them out. hey, you need something and drinking some of the e. >> he's always he's always someone's. so it was always hear from a makeshift memorial is building at the gas station. he used to frequent. it is about a block away from where antioch police officers found him dead just after 7 o'clock last wednesday morning. it had to life is definitely at the track tragica incident. tenant desmond bittner says investigators are working quickly to solve the city's 5th homicide of the year. >> initially cole's death was ruled suspicious, but a subsequent autopsy has determined he was murdered. bitnar says the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and chest any help we can we can receive from the public if somebody happened to be driving in the area, walking the area on may 15th from about midnight to. >> 06:00am in the morning. please feel free to reach out to the police department. he

and are charles clifford will also have a report on that story as well. a mural. meantime, know, we've ali has been defaced several times this afternoon. the jewish community relations council of the bay area is speaking out first, if any justice joins us now live from the newsroom. and tiffany, they're they're calling this latest act of vandalism, hateful. they are. the council says they are. there are symbols in the mural. >> that are anti-semitic and they're working to get the mural removed. >> a mural in san francisco's knowing valley neighborhood is grabbing people's attention. it was painted in opposition to the war in gaza, but some are calling it antisemitic. others have no problem with the mural. i don't think this is anti-semitic at all. i think is just a message of what's actually going on >> picture of the reality. people are looking at the big picture and i think that. >> they don't realize how much of a bully israel is and the situation cities like sf and

basically clear out there you know, not not too bad. the traffic department as well. kyla grogan here with some details. hey, kyla. hey there. yes, i want to talk about long-term forecast really quickly here now you can see this chart. >> it is looking across the country of long-range forecast. now i want to take you right at the top one here. this is temperature. the bottom is precipitation. we're not so focused on that. but you can see temperature here. we're going to be either at or below average over the next 3 to 4 weeks, not the case with much of the country you see there in oranges and reds are going to be warming up. and the reason i bring that up is because right now the next few days we're going to be having some really nice seasonal or warm weather. you can see our little breezy here as we take a live look at the embarcadero. but temperature wise across the bay right now, we're looking pretty good. 80 degrees in concord. you can see some upper 70's in san jose in livermore, mid 70's and santa rosa 60's in san francisco and oakland, half mnon bay. a little cooler because that's where the clouds are hanging out at the coast. but having said that, they've gotten some really nice sunshine in there today to just getting a little bit

following this story for in the courtroom joins us now live from the newsroom. what does this mean? teresa crazy, right? legal experts say that this is a rare situation, but one that can occur. here's what happened and more significantly about. >> what's going to happen next. these are courtroom sketches of david de pap during his federal trial. the jury convicted him of breaking into the former speaker. to civic height, home, speaker back on october of 2022. brutally beating paul pelosi with a hammer, giving him a concussion as well as other injuries. now the extent of the injuries and the fact that the attack was on the u.s. officials, family member, the judge cited on friday as one of the reasons to hand down this fairly lengthy sentence of 30 years. however, quickly after the sentencing, the judge issued an order stating that the sentencing will be done again because path was not given the option to speak on his behalf. and that is a violation of criminal code. we

asked legal expert michael cardoza, whether there's a chance that the pap sentence could wind up being less than before. >> whether he, in fact, has contrition. and then question will be if he expresses that to the court, will the court take that into consideration in reducing the are ready? given 30 years sends down? even if the pop says that he's sorry that she's going to reduce it she. i mean, the judge in this case, he's going to reduce the sentence 2 lesser than 30 years. but who knows? maybe it might happen. maybe she not call 5 years or so. i don't know. >> and that is what it's all about. the re-sentencing hearing is now set for tuesday of next week and the federal courthouse square doses says that despite the writing of the wrong last week, the defense can still use this issue issue to appeal the case at a higher court down the road. reporting in the

newsroom. theresa stasi, back to you guys. all right, thanks for straightening that teachers in contra costa county reached a tentative contract agreement with the office of education. >> teachers with the contra costa county school educators association will get a raise starting on july first, once the new contract is ratified, that will include a 6% raise retroactive to last july. plus one percent raise. but this year, the agreement aims to adjust teachers, salaries for new school year to align with increased cost of living 1700 characters in prairie performers at disneyland. they have voted to form union represented by the actors equity association. richards are calling for higher pay safety protections and better schedules parade performers in particular say that they have trouble getting full-time hours. cast members of walt disney world in florida. they have been unionized since the 1980's. disney has a a week to file any challenges to the election results and has yet to comment on the boat.

switching gears now to talk about the weather. here's a live look outside right now. beautiful look at mountain. it out. hannah brown water back there from a tampa and it appears to be somewhat hazy. kai a little hazy. we've had a few spots slipped into moderate air quality today. so there is that happening out there outside of that, though it is. >> kind of a lovely blue sky day, a little breezy in san francisco right now. but we've had some nice temperatures. high pressure is off the coast pretty far but still influencing our weather. you can see a little low pressure that is now move down towards southern california. but for us, it's been all about the blue skies today. you can see that as we look at stormtracker 4, having said that, you do also see that wind coming from that northwest direction. that is what's going to help us warm up as we get into tomorrow. it's also bringing that wind right now. you can see 80 miles per hour at sfo. you can see about 20 miles per hour point raise. but notice napa getting some of this win to its starting to push a little bit across the bay. so the breezy conditions are with us.

the warmer temperatures being ushered in by that northwesterly flow. you can see temperatures up a few degrees from yesterday. if you're in napa, if you're in novato, you're 5 degrees up. so feeling a little bit warmer today and seeing that reflected in these temperatures. 77 in san jose, you can see 78 in fremont ad in redwood city where 80 in pittsburgh as well close to in concord at 79 degrees. 77 in nevada. so we know we're warming up down there. san francisco about 65 degrees right now. the downtown gauge. the other thing that's happening is not a lot of marine layer. this is our fog cast right, which is to say that we don't really have one look at this. in the overnight hours, we got hardly anything building in as far as marine layer is concerned. so it will mean for a nice day tomorrow. some really nice warm temperatures as we continue this trajectory of sunshine and warmth. it will peak tomorrow and then we'll pull back just a touch on wednesday, a day like today, thursday, same story by friday. that's we've got a friend tracking through that will knock temperatures down and look how cool we get on saturday. of course, that does

afternoon, childcare costs way. they're on the rise nationwide. the average cost of child care for 2 children is now more than the average price of rent in all 50 states. a report from the nonprofit group child care aware of america says well, here in the west coast we're paying about $26,000 per year for child care. the group says that at this rate it would cost 10% of a married couple's median income. and 32% of a single parent both of those figures out pace, the 7% target recommended by the u.s. department of health and human services. parents aren't the only ones feeling the squeeze. the pandemic forced about 16,000 child care providers to close and with relief funding expired. well, more could be on the way. more than 600,000 people in california have

unused debit cards that are meant to ease the burden of inflation. the franchise tax board started issuing the middle class tax refund by direct deposit and debit cards back in october of 2022. last september, the last round of payments had been sent out. the payments are as high as $1000. more than 9 million people received a debit card in the mail. 10% of those cards have not been activated. california still have about 2 years to activate and use the remaining funds. the numbers are in for this weekend's box office and the movie if falling slightly short of expectations, the fantasy comedy directed by john krasinski topped the box office this weekend. but failed to meet revenue expectations if brought in 35 million dollars domestically after being expected to bring in more than 40 million dollars in his first weekend released production for if costa 110 million dollars. as for the rest of the weekend's top 5, the kingdom of the planet of the apes finished in second

activity. port officials say that april's cargo volume builds on a six-month long growth trend. there's been a 17% increase in container imports this year compared to the same time last year, according to officials that the port also posted an increase in exports which rose by nearly 7% this year. officials say recent infrastructure upgrades given the port real boost upping the volume of imported and exported goods returned to pre-pandemic highs. as talk about forecast as we look outside at the buckyballs, speaking of highs. kylie is here not only to talk temperature, but also about the clarity about the air out there with you do see a little haze out there. so we'll get into that just a second. i want to start with temperatures across the state to show you that we're in the 60's along the coast. but 80's as we head inland. >> all the way from bakersfield, right on up to reading. it's a pretty nice day today in california, but we do have a little bit of a haze in the sky. you can see it here as we take a live look

from mount tam the mount tam cam kind of looking towards san francisco and that haze is, you know, revealing that we do have a little bit of moderate air quality out there. so you see a few of those yellow dots on the map up in nevado across the bay in oakland, down in san jose and even far out into the east bay in concord. so if you're a person is very sensitive to air quality, new thinking, what's going on here? yeah, you're right. we do have is a little bit of a slip there, but we're not expecting it to go any further into poor. so that is the good news. all right, live look outside. as vicky mentioned, we've got a little bit of a breeze going on but a pretty nice day in san francisco outside of that temperatures right now in the 60's there oakland. we're in the 70's and san jose and liver more 80 degrees in concord. 75 in santa rosa and half moon bay where we did have a little bit of cloud cover this morning. 57 degrees. so i wanted to point out that today the sun is going to be setting at 08:17pm. we're still working our way towards those day hours of daylight, increasing till we get to june 21st. so

today it's 14 hours. and 22 minutes of daylight. if you'd like to get out and make the most of it have at it. i'll be back in a little bit. we'll talk more about our 7 day forecast. all right. kai light to the east bay. now, chp officers arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal. >> hit and run. it happened in san leandro. police say the driver hit and killed someone wednesday night. they say the victim was found lying in the street at boulevard and embers way. police say that they later found the car wanted in connection with incident on friday, the suspect was booked into santa rita jail. bail was set at 125 $1000. to the north bay. now police arrested a man on suspicion of a dui hit and run. this happened early sunday morning on east washington street just after one. 15 am police say the crash involved 2 cars and that a man and a woman were injured when officers got to the scene, they say that they saw a different man identified as frank monticello and a nearby creek after hiding in a

resident's backyard. they say that resident told them that monticello was hiding in there on their property and then jumped the fence. michaela was booked into sonoma county jail on multiple felony charges. a gilroy resident was killed after being hit by a car driven by a minor. this had early yesterday morning in gilroy on no nam you it's a street near sayg to louise regional hospital there. the victim was 23 years old. a minor waited for the police to arrive and is cooperating with the investigation. not clear what caused that crash. sonoma county crews rescued a man who was thrown from his car after driving off a cliff. it happened yesterday morning off highway one near jenner. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the car landed about 200 feet down from the roadway up against a large tree. crews found the driver laying in a patch of brush about 350 feet down from the crash site. the sheriff's office says the man was hurt and flown to a

hospital, but is expected to recover. palo alto police investigating yet another mail carrier robbery there. the latest incident happened at an apartment complex parking lot on middlefield road. police say the 60 year-old postal worker was delivering mail when 2 men approached him and demanded his postal keys and his personal belongings. the postal worker turned over the keys but refused to give up his personal items. police say a fist fight ensued and the thieves knocked the victim to the ground, injuring him. police say the 2 robbers took off in an older model. nissan altima. anybody with information is being asked to contact police. crews working to clean up, have her grass fire broke out on your buena island. this happened saturday. shutting down all eastbound lanes of the bay bridge for several hours. officials say that there were traffic problems in both directions. people were urged to avoid that area. you can

responded reports of a man firing a gun when they arrived on scene. they found on individual who was shooting apparently randomly towards an apartment building. they confronted him at least one officer shot and wounded that suspect he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. now we learned just a short time ago that the suspect, as 41 year-old ricardo, villareal, he does have a criminal history. he is currently at the hospital. the police department has said that they don't yet know what his motive was, why he was shooting at this building. he was targeting anyone in particular or what it was doing exactly. they also haven't been able to do a toxicology exam on him see if he was under any sort of influence are going to wait until out of surgery and can talk to police. we also learned that the officers involved that there were 3 officers who apparently fired shots at the suspect of their multi year veterans of the force. the san jose police department still investigating the shooting, but they also say that the internal affairs at a san jose police and the

we're looking pretty good. nice blue skies out there. we've got a break from the marine layer today which isn't really nice. you can see some blue skies here as we take a look at the golden gate bridge, a little breezy in san francisco. but other than that pretty quiet weather tonight. mostly clear skies should be a really nice night to take a look at the moon. it's getting kind of bright out there. the last couple days. we have a full moon on thursday. warmest day of the week is tomorrow. we'll see some inland 80's and then a big cool down as we get to friday. and yes, the marine layer will be rolling back in current temperatures right now. you can see you've got some nice numbers out there. 65 in downtown san francisco. 77 in san jose ad in concord. and 75 up in santa rosa. i mean, look at walnut creek as an example here as we take a live look from the east bay for temperatures. you can see that tomorrow we get even warmer than today. and then another nice couple of days, wednesday into thursday. but friday we've got a front tracking through. doesn't bring us rain, but it does knock down the temperatures. so it's a dry front. but boy, oh, boy, are we going to you know, a kind of rude

utility workers. well, they worked tirelessly to restore electricity after hurricane force winds, downed power lines and brought the houston area to a standstill. the tornado even touched down in a suburb. crews hope to get the power back on to those still without it. by wednesday. after 22 years in business, the lakeshore cafe in oakland is announcing it's closing its doors for good in just one week. memorial day will be the final day for the popular breakfast and lunch spot near lake merritt. the owner is making the announcement on social media. they don't say why they're leaving, but they did say that a new restaurant wilt soon be opening in its place. up next, bottle rock music festival. we're going to tell you what to expect.

national news now. the campaign for president really heating up with both the president, joe biden and former president donald trump trying to shore up key voting blocs over the weekend. each man speaking at events with voters critical to their election success. washington correspondent trevor shirley is in washington with more. and this weekend both candidates gave a good sense of their campaign strategies going forward on sunday, president joe biden gave the commencement address at morehouse college. a historically black college in atlanta later that evening, the president traveled to detroit, michigan, speaking at a dinner for the naacp. both events highlight the president's drive to keep black and minority voters. not only engaged but willing to vote in november. it's a key
