>> tonight at 5.30, blunt force trauma to the head and chest. that's what police say was the cause of death for a homeless man found dead last week, an antioch and as kron four's philippe djegal reports following an autopsy. >> his death went from being called suspicious to now being ruled a homicide. >> a block away from where he was found dead last wednesday, patrons of a gas station on-loan tree way at country hills drive in antioch. >> remember, raheem co? he was a nice guy. i mean, you know,

i mean, i think he had a issues. >> but the big, you know, you never did wrong anybody that i know. you know, mean, they were talking out loud little bit, you know, but >> that was just him. flowers have also been placed took his last breath. all homicides are taking very was homeless and well known by people who live and work in the always stuck to himself. he always had a small. his lap is very contagious. sadly, just after 7.15, wednesday morning, antioch police officers responded to reports of a man down on the sidewalk. and lieutenant desmond bittner says the 48 year-old had already passed away when they arrived. felt that the situation was suspicious. so they notified our set out to investigate shuns surgeon as well handful of investigators and following an autopsy, lieutenant victor says cole's death has been ruled a homicide. it was determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head chest.

investigators took a large rock away from the crime scene. but it's unclear if that was the murder weapon. man who neighbors say lived a tough life but did not take that out on anyone else. what happened is just very saddened. >> i yeah, i have no words for its terrible. i mean, you know, it's weird. i mean, and yachts. >> got to the point where it's like everywhere like this, you know, and it's light. those deaths all the time around you don't know what to think. you know, this is the city's 5th homicide of the year. >> none of them classified as justifiable in antioch. philippe djegal kron. 4 news. >> a gilroy resident killed after being hit by a car that was driven by a minor. this happened early yesterday morning in gilroy on a street called no name. you know, that's near saint louise regional hospital. the victim was 23 years old. the minor way did for police to arrive and is cooperating with the investigation. not clear what caused this crash. >> in the east bay, the chp arrested a suspect in

connection to a fatal hit and run in san leandro. police say a driver hit and killed somebody wednesday night. the victim was found lying in the street at welling boulevard and embers way. police say they later found the car wanted in connection with the incident friday the suspect was booked into santa rita jail bail set at $125,000. quite a scene here. the fire boat going to town all eastbound lanes of the bay bridge were closed for hours over the weekend because of a grass fire on your blade island, fire boats saturday were also brought in to help. their crews say the strong winds made really tough to put out the fire. no damage was done to any structures there. but those fire boats can the real age when you're trying to access a fire from all angles. obviously you have endless water to use yeah. it was really a mask on the bay bridge we're going to take a live shot right now.

>> at the san mateo bridge where traffic is moving along at slow pace, a little hazy out there. lawrence is back now to check on how the air quality is doing. yeah. get a little hazy around the bay area high pressure that's sitting overhead. brought us some nice weather today, of course, of the year to a little more stagnant outside. that's when you start to see some of the building up a little bit. that's what we're seeing outside right now. you can see some haze looking down. >> from mount tam out over the bay, some of that haze continuing, especially around a part of the interior of the base in the san francisco oakland, in parts of the north bay in toward miranda east bay as well in the santa clara valley. some of that haze continuing out there right now and likely to see that again tomorrow. we've got high pressure building in overhead overnight. tonight. those winds are more normally. think it was a little more northeasterly overnight tonight. that's going to be that offshore wind. it is going to make for some very warm temperatures. but the same time and maybe a little hazy outside of the afternoon hours, especially the east bay in the south bay air quality looking good in the north bay and out along the coast. all

right. your fog forecast for tonight. you can see it's clear right now and that is way it's going to stay for quite a while. you may see a couple patches of fog for coastline toward the san mateo county coast toward half moon bay and are not in further south pescadero. but otherwise you're clear in the san francisco inside the bay are looking good. so we start out mostly sunny side up looking good toward the afternoon across most of the bay area. late in the day. i think we'll see some of that fog. again. there are a filter back in along the immediate coastline. that will be a sign of some bigger changes coming our way as we head toward the middle of the week. so, yeah, looking ahead here over the next few days, how about tomorrow? because the mid 80's and some of the warm interior valleys. lot 80's in the santa clara valley, 70's inside the bay along the make sure 50's and some 60's. we start to cool down on wednesday. more cooling down on thursday and changes full holiday weekend to will talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. all right, lawrence characters and parade performers at disneyland. they voted to unionize. >> the 1700 employees will be represented by the actors

equity association workers are calling for higher pay and stronger safety practices on the job. they're also demanding better schedules, parade performers in particular have trouble getting full-time hours. other departments at the disneyland resort like food and beverage. they've also unionized character and parade cast members of walt disney world in florida been union, not unionized. other since the 1980's, disney has a week to file any challenges to the election results. they have not yet commented on the vote. >> federal regulators are recalling several cars. they include honda, bmw, ford 187,000. honda ridgeline trucks are being recalled for a rearview camera issue. bmw is recalling hundreds of its 2024 2025 vehicles. the models include the next 5 x 6 and x 7. the seat belt system may not detect passengers in the vehicle or belted. and ford is recalling 8700 of its

vehicles. the power train software may cause the vehicle. the shift into neutral unexpectedly. the ford escape lincoln corsair and ford maverick are involved. the model years are 2022. to 2024. >> plans to build a high-speed rail line connecting san francisco to southern california. well, it's actually cleared another hurdle. the la times says that high speed rail officials support the latest recommendations for a 33 mile rail segment connecting anaheim, los angeles. that clears the way for an environmental review which is expected to take more than a year to finish. construction is already underway on 119 mile stretch of the rail line in the central valley. >> students met with virginia senator mark warner today to tell him how troubled fafsa application upgrades have affected that. yeah. the delayed rollout of the financial financial aid service led to delays in college decisions for students. washington

correspondent basil john reports on what the students went through. >> garland by is one of many students were plagued by the fafsa application process changes. the whole process itself is hard. the rollout ran into glitches in processing delays and some schools did not push back their decision deadlines. this left students like of stressed you have to figure out the deadlines for a lot of things. scholarships, fafsa the college applications. when you're getting back from morning here at college joining but i do get the into a major book while submitting her application. i got a indicators saying that there was an error in that it was missing. my student signature. however, there was never the opportunity to fill out that student signature. and i wasn't the only one. so they spoke with virginia senator mark warner to express their concerns to improve college counselor will as swine to students challenging backgrounds are especially feeling the hit to see them struggling so hard. and the same students coming back day in and day out has been really frustrating. the education

last? yeah, you know, we should last forever, right? it's very, very nice out around the bay. i think we've got another day of some really nice weather. then we'll start to see the changes begin to kick in. but what a nice way to start out the workweek ahead. we have a lot of sunshine even along the coastline today managed to clear out most of those clouds will maybe couple patches of fog form along the coastline overnight tonight, but it's not going to be much stay mostly clear toward the golden gate bridge. that's the way it looks now to that sea breeze has kicked in just a bit to help cool things down. temperatures started to move up the board just a bit. in fact, nice big in the week. we're to even 5 degrees warmer than yesterday. and so these numbers we have are going watch of pop again by tomorrow afternoon as some of these highs going top out again in the 80's. they want the warmer spots. 81 degrees in concord. 77 in santa rosa. 77 also in livermore today, 78 in san jose, 68 degrees in oakland and 65 degrees in san francisco overnight tonight, skies going to stay mostly clear. calm. nice night to get outside. check out the stars. if you can tomorrow, mostly sunny and warm. maybe couple patches of fog moving along the coastline late in the day.

really the week ahead. looking nice, warm start to the week that we will start to cool things down as we head toward the end of the week. high pressure, though, overhead right now that ridge will eventually start to weaken somewhat as it does that allow for some cooler air. but not tomorrow should nice and warm around the bay area. numbers breaking down like this about 66 degrees in downtown san francisco. that's a nice day and sunny and bright, 70 in the mission. about 61 and cooler right along the water's edge. and that will be the coolest spot of the bay area. 68 degrees in burlingame. a beautiful 75 in foster city. warm. 74 woodside temperatures warming up in the 80's in much of the santa clara valley tomorrow afternoon. mid-eighties in places like pleasanton dublin. you're looking about 84 degrees. 83 in seminole as you work your way inside the bay temperatures a little bit cooler. really comfortable. how about 75 in san leandro? 74 brookly tomorrow and warm 78 enrichment. 82 of late on 84 watch out for that sea breeze kicking in late today through the delta. other than that, we've got some very nice weather tomorrow. then we'll start to cool things down on

burden of inflation >> the franchise tax board started issuing what they called the middle class tax refund by direct deposit and by mailing debit cards in october 2022. by september of last year, the last round of payments have been sent out the payments are as high as $1000. more than 9 million people received debit cards in the mail. only 90% of those cards been activated. california still have about 2 years to activate and use the remaining money. >> target says it's lowering prices on thousands of items starting today. the move is meant to lure back shoppers concerned about inflation and impact on their wallet. the big box chain announced that the price cuts are going to apply to name brands including clorox and prime energy as well as its own in-house products. target sales fell last year for the first time since 2016. the company has predicted a sluggish 2024. and will update investors on earnings this wednesday.
