that's close in fremont right now because of a fiery crash. we've got kron four's michael thomas on the scene for us right now with more on what happened. michael. >> we're really just awful scene in situation. take a look behind me. it's near the intersection of fremont boulevard and florida avenue. this is just south thorton avenue and you can see that treat just wrapped excuse me. that vehicle wrapped around the tree. what appears to have golf in flames earlier this morning. we have not gotten confirmation from police as to if this is a fatality or not. however, we are seeing some of the machines that they normally use. one fatality does occur when they're doing the investigations. keep in mind the speed limit on the street is only 30 miles an hour as to what happened. we're still trying to learn details. however, there is a family here that claims that their son was involved in this accident and that their son has passed away due to the accident. but again, fremont police have not confirmed anything as of yet, but that family is here in distress and

very emotional. as you can see, just how horrific this accident appeared to be. and police have been here for the last few hours. you can see that debris pushed all the way back by at least maybe 100 feet or so from the actual vehicle itself. that tree partially also caught in up in flames earlier this morning. and again, we do not know exactly the details as to what happened, how many people were as we get those details. we'll keep you updated. but we will be here throughout the morning. if you are utilizing this street of fremont boulevard, you may need to find an alternative route. police say that it will be closed off at least 4 the next few hours or so. again, this is near the intersection of thorton and fremont. so as we get those details, dorian james will continue to keep you updated. i will send it back to live in the studio for all right. thank you so much, michael. >> 71 is the time. let's get a check of the weather in the traffic here. >> at the 7 o'clock hour. see what's doing, alex. i think this might be the warmest day

when all said and done, john. it definitely is. it's going to be some upper 80's that are very warmest inland, which is not something we're going to see the rest of the forecast. so today at the love, the heat and that sunshine, you got both things looking outside from mount tam that little blanket of fog are not completely fog free this morning, although most of us are just looking at a thin veil of it, you can see visibility is holding strong for most areas. couple spots around american canyon. watch out for just a couple spots of fog trying to form out that way. otherwise winds are relatively calm towards the coastline today, inland areas, some of our breezy us to and winds will kick back into gear overnight. tonight that will start to cool us down ahead of tomorrow. temperatures in the 40's to 50's currently a few low 60's inland lake in pittsburgh, brentwood in vacaville. well, berkeley at 51 right sf and oakland at 52 later today. upper 80's at our warmest inland lot. upper 70's to low 80's along the bay shore. more your forecast ahead right now. all right,

john, thank you for that. will hit roads on a tuesday morning. lot of your highways and bridges were starting to see that congestion building already. >> a 60 minute ride into the city but were down last hour. we've got to 20 minutes. so we'll see a lot of fluctuating traffic flow. 18 minute ride on the san mateo bridge. a little slow along 8.80, getting on the san mateo bridge. there, 14 right holes to what we started like 7 minute ride across the richmond, sandra fell bridge. so things are starting to bill. 23 minutes tolls to 101. if you are traveling across some of those highways, we're busy along highway 4.80, as you're traveling through richmond and emeryville along 80 in hayward, 2.81, '01, east bay along the peninsula. things are looking much better wages. back to you. thank you, reyna. let's get to another big story that we're following in the south bay. we're learning new details this morning about a shooting that involved a san jose police officer. now officers say they shot a man who had a gun cropper. jack moment explains what happened. >> well, the shooting here that happened sunday in the seaside san jose apartment complex is the 3rd officer-involved shooting to

happen so far this year having city leaders want to look further into these officer-involved shootings when they do happen. it also has residents here at this apartment complex, a concern. >> it all started with a 9-1-1 call people living at this east side. san jose complex reporting a man shooting a gun outside his van. he was later identified as 41 year-old ricardo view, every out and by the time police arrived shortly after 4 in the afternoon. >> this prompted a separate officer to discharge his firearm striking the suspect man was critically injured. one neighbor showed us this parking garage where she says police marks the bullet holes and additional details are still unfolding. but one thing's certain people here are on was scared. it was care. mendoza moved here just this year and says his family was watching tv when fort and where we hear one shot. >> and simon, later, we're late. >> 6 saying he heard what happened from a neighbor. she was in the on the guy is what you know? and the weather

couple shows in as a view, every al has served 10 years before for assault on a police officer. the gun he had sunday. >> was unregistered frequency of san jose police officers being shot at or hit by gunfire. he's gone from a rare anomaly to a regular occurrence. san jose police say the threat to officers is increasing and they want to form a group to study each time an officer was shot at in the coming days. i will bring together a group of internal and external partners for the purpose of analyzing these attacks. now, san jose police says that the shooting is still very much under investigation. questions as to why the shooting happened in the first place or why neighbors called saying that there was a man shooting out of his van. those are still yet to be determined. meantime, the every hour remains in the hospital in critical condition where he said san jose jack moment. >> kron 4 news. >> and 705. in san jose as installing 33 new high-speed cameras in late 2025. they'll be up in the city right now is trying to see where a putdown these cameras they think will

help reduce high speed crashes. so this year's city council is going through the placement of the cameras. then they're going to vote on that this fall and put them up with the goal to have the cameras spread around the city so that they make sure that communities of color, low-income neighborhoods get the cameras as well because they think it's going to save lives for the first 60 days. the program drivers will just get a warning after that, though, there will be fines and low-income drivers will be asked to provide community service hours instead of paying. city leaders say that law enforcement will not have access to the camera footage. they'll only be used for speed enforcement. in the east bay. police have arrested a 13 year-old boy for the deadly stabbing of an 18 year-old at a san leandro safeway. the stabbing was at the bancroft avenue location the safely and have been in early april and security cameras show what happened. the 2 got into a ght and then the 13 year-old stabbed the 18 year-old in the

chest and in the arm, police arrested the 13 year-old at his high school last week. >> well, happening today, san francisco city officials and nurses at zuckerberg, san francisco general hospital plan to announce new legislation that they say will address a nursing shortage so the ballot that they're putting together, what specifically address a shortage of nurses and 9-1-1, operators in the city. they say the legislation would improve the retention and recruitment of essential workers and it would let full-time registered nurses by back time worked as per diem. for retirement credits. it would also give 9-1-1 operators, the same safety retirement benefits as other first responders, if approved, the measure will be on the november ballot. a press conference to announce that legislation is going to be held at 10 o'clock this morning. just outside the bank of america plaza on potrero avenue. >> time now 7, a 7. and today more than 200 rideshare and delivery drivers are going to

rally outside he's in the california supreme court. we're talking doordash uber lyft because they want to express what they think about what's going on with the high court considering this legal challenge to prop 22 prop. 22 is the law that says that drivers for these companies are independent contractors. and so not entitled to benefits after the law passed, a lower court ruled that it was actually unconstitutional. but that ruling was reversed. and now there's an appeal with the state's highest court and they are hearing the case. the workers are rallying because they don't support this measure. they say it denies them the ability to make a living wage and it denies them basic rights like paid sick leave and overtime which they say other california workers are guaranteed. the rally is at 12, 30 in front of the supreme court. san francisco. >> well, 2 robbery suspects have been arrested last night after police say they stole % money and a car in the city. but the suspect ran into something unexpected as they were trying to get away.

officers say the robbery took place in overnight was on 8th and folsom streets. police say they found the suspects in the stolen car, but when they tried to pull him over, instead relied on a chase. chase eventually ended, though, with the suspects crashing into a driverless car on fulsome and 14th right near costco. both suspects were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. and in san ramon has been arrested now in connection with a freeway shooting. police say they arrested lee o'connor of forestville after identifying him as the shooter in this incident. that happened along 6.80, northbound, just north cost of boulevard during the arrest. police say they also found a gun in o'connor's car. that freeway shooting. >> another developing story we're following is legal experts weighing in on the re-sentencing that's going to happen for david de pap, pap, as you probably know, is convicted of attacking paul pelosi in his home in san

francisco. path was initially sentenced last week to 30 years in prison. but after that, a federal judge says she failed to give the path the opportunity to speak, which is very important in the case. >> it takes consideration whether the defendant, the accused now the convicted in this case, the pop is sorry for what he did. >> and will it the sentence? that is what we'll have to wait and see. a kron four's legal expert michael cardoza says that perhaps lawyers could try to continue appealing the case, even though the judge is correcting her mistake that re-sentencing hearing has been set by the judge for next tuesday. >> well, berkeley business owners will now have to decide if they want those parklets and are willing to pay for them. the city now plans start charging rent for these parking spaces have been turned into outdoor dining and

parklet spots. these parklets first popped up during the pandemic. of course, a service, a lifeline for a lot of restaurants around the bay area and up till now use of these what used to be parking spaces are free. but starting next week, berkeley is going start charging restaurants in some cases, thousands of dollars a year if they want to keep up. >> going to be a big expense. that was going to be hard for us to absorb. so we asked if you can pay the monthly and they said yes to that. so we're going to paying about 1500 bucks a month to read this outdoor space. >> well, the city is now requiring businesses to apply for permits if they want to keep those parklets. >> and 7.11 and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, antioch police have ruled out the reasoning of the death of a homeless man. we'll tell you what they know and what they're still trying to figure out. >> and we are looking at a comfortable day at the coastline today. lot of 60's and some sunshine out there. it's going to be warmest day for inland areas rising well

seeing an onshore push of wind today. it's actually a wind out of the north. and so that is just really skirting some of that very light fog. i won't even call it the fog this morning because visibility is holding pretty strong high pressure still pretty far to the west, though. so not necessarily the easiest of days, which is good news. air quality is actually ok, just that northerly wind and a little bit of cooling effect towards the coastline in the bay shore. now, as far as we go later on afters that northerly wind kind of cuts us off from seeing too much ocean appealed cooling. we will see that westerly wind pushing back into gear tonight and that will begin to cool us down overnight into tomorrow. so today we're just going to be seeing those inland temperatures spiking tomorrow. we'll start to see that cool down beginning by the weekend. ahead. in fact, a system skirting right past us. it's going make temperatures way cooler than average for this time of year today. it 60's and 70's and san francisco solid dose of sunshine out there. 60's for the coastline

today. then a lot of 70's elsewhere in the bay along the bay shore. but a few more 80's than there were yesterday, redwood city down through the south bay in the low to mid 80's, even with campbell at eighty-four degrees east bay temperatures 70's to low 80's for you live or more. 83 while oakland up to richmond in the 70's today, hottest spots, antioch, pittsburgh, fairfield and vacaville each at 87 degrees for your daytime highs tomorrow. we'll start to see that cool sea breeze kicking more into gear. temperatures will slowly drop into the low 80's initially and then it will be the 70's for the rest of the forecast by saturday. even our warmest inland areas will barely hit 70 degrees rain. all right, john, thank you for that. that morning commute starting to pick up for us, especially highway 4 and can to conquer this morning last hour. still upper 30's, but not yet 44 minutes to make it from antioch and to conquer no accidents. there. >> 22 minute ride into the city at the start of the hour and 16 minutes to drive times kind of shot up there. 20

and a choice of either a bacon egg and cheese, english muffin or a sausage egg and cheese english muffin live from the nasdaq market site. i'm jane king, that agents. all right, jane, thank you very much. >> it's for your health. leading pediatricians. pediatricians in the u.s. made a drastic reversal and their guidance over whether it's safe for mothers with hiv. >> to breastfeed the american academy of pediatrics says that mothers with hiv. and breastfeed their babies as long as they're taking medications that effectively suppress the virus that causes aids. this is a complete reversal and about face of the recommendations that had been in place since the start of the hiv epidemic back in the 1980's. this report acknowledges that routinely prescribe drugs can reduce the risk of transmitting hiv through milk. but to less than one percent becomes the chance there's a woman, for example, she's from philadelphia. she says she was diagnosed hiv at the age of 20 and not

permitted to breastfeed her first child. she says that led her to a spiral of postpartum depression. >> not being able breastfeed. my first child was extremely the press nfl toxic to home. i thought that i had carried him 7 and a half minutes and i was able to keep him safe and free of hiv long. but take my medication, you know, going the doctor doing things that i knew that i needed to but now since he was no longer my body, now like i was some type of harm could cause some type of harms >> and now she thinks about all she could have isn't and gotten from that. the health care team she says was a bully to help her successfully breastfeed her second child. she took her prescriptions as directed and gave the babies drugs as well to prevent infection. but that was her second child before the medications to suppress virus levels became widely available

which day it was a decade ago, about 30% of hiv infections transmitted from moms to babies during breastfeeding. but again, the study finds that's not the case and says now if you take the drugs, it's one percent chance. >> also for your help this morning, a new report says that elon musk's brain implant company has received the green light from the fda to proceed with a second patient. the wall street journal is reporting that the fda says neuralink can go ahead and implant a brain chip in a second patient after the company announced that it made some fixes to address some of the issues with its first volunteer. the report says the company plans to embed wires deeper into the patient's brain. new orleans first patient noland arbaugh. the quadriplegic man says that he was able to control a computer cursor with just his thoughts. but then notice the implant kind of stop working about a month after surgery. so that's what they were working to fix. the journal adds link expects to implant their second patients sometime next month.

meanwhile, officials out of the port of oakland say they're seeing a lot of activity in the last 6 months. in fact, they say they've seen a 17% increase in container imports this year compared to the same time last year. the port also posted an increase in exports by nearly 7%. officials say the recent infrastructure upgrades have given the poor to boost helping the volume of imported and exported goods return to pre-pandemic highs. >> happening today, people live in antioch are going to rally some of them and they want the sand cain joint powers authority to keep the amtrak train station open in antioch last month, officials decided that was going to be closing the pittsburgh annexation. they're going to move it over to oakley. and the residents who are going to demonstrate today. they say this train system is their main source of transportation and will heavily impact, especially seniors, veterans students and the working class. the rally is at 12, 30 on i street. it's 7.22. and

bay, one person was killed and 2 others are in the hospital after a car crash that happened in vallejo sunday night on kurt parkway west of lemon street. it was on nissan that hit center divider, lost control and went into oncoming traffic, hitting a honda. the

person driving the nissan was killed. the nissan's passenger and the driver of the honda are in the hospital. police do not believe the drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. take a look at this garbage truck that caught fire in san francisco. this is in the tenderloin at hide and ellis streets. it was about 11 o'clock in the morning yesterday. you can see all of smoke. what you can't do is probably smell what at fire smell like they did. put it out there investigating what happened? well, the search for a hiker in alameda county has ended with some good news. so according to the east bay regional park police, they found alex stretcher, who you see here and his dog near the san antonio reservoir yesterday afternoon. >> they've been missing for 3 days. police say the 2 appeared to be in good health. so that's fantastic to hear that stretcher and his dog started their hike friday up in the snow regional wilderness. they were supposed to be picked up saturday at dove valley regional park.

kind of nice let you really don't like the heat. but can we really call this hot? it's just really nice and normal babies. yeah. for babies in every no mid to upper 80's. there's a few places we can visit where people feel like that sounds great right of that today is going to be the warmest one of our forecast, which is going to be some of those mid to upper 80's looking outside this morning of the bay. you can see we do have some fog out there that blanket pushed right into the bay itself. >> we do have just a touch of an inversion in that ocean. cool. there is pretty visible from mount tam from up about visibility is fine. regardless of that, not a ton of fog this morning we are seeing some breezier conditions in the north bay, but even then not all that bad temps are in the 40's to 50's right now conquered. and here are 55 dublin livermore at 52 while san mateo and alameda in the upper 50's 58 later on today. much as we alluded to is going to be the warmest day of your forecast with upper 70's to upper 80's at the warmest. all right, john, thank you for that long. he had a pretty

minor traffic collision by the toll plaza on the bay bridge. >> got that pretty clear that quickly as the morning went on here, drive times, didn't even go up 22 minutes. we're pretty consistent. their terms of that. 25 in right along or san matteo bridge because 8.80, starting to pick up and even 101, on the peninsula site, richard somerville bridge, 13 minutes, golden gate bridge somewhere around. 32, one of the north bay. you're seeing more traffic there and in the south bay as well. 53 minute ride. 85 to menlo park along one-on-one darya. james, back to you. thanks a lot. let's get back to the breaking news. a reyna touched on it we've been covering is a major roadway that's close in fremont because of a fiery crash. and the scene is pretty dramatic. crawford's michael thomas lived there for us now. >> with the latest, michael. >> an awful scene to say the least or this car accident. take a look at what police have not confirmed. it has a fatality family here at the scene say their son was involved. their son did pass away. it's between fremont boulevard and ice, but it's on fremont boulevard between thorton and peralta. you can

see the car wrapped around the tree with the engine falling out the bottom and completely burned. and again, police have not given any details on what may have happened or how many people were involved or if it was a fatality as of right now, fremont boulevard remains closed from thorton down 2 per alta avenue. and as we said, we did speak with some family members who are here on the scene there. very emotional and distressed in that car completely burned. the speed limit in this area is 30 miles an hour. and you can see that vehicle did take out not only the speed limit sign, but also a few others. when it comes to that debris, you can see it pushed back by at least 100 feet or so from the actual scene. this road is set to be closed, at least for the next few hours or so. as we get more details from fremont police. we'll continue to keep you updated. i will send it back to to live in the studio for tough morning. alright, thank you so much, michael 7.32. is the time copper theft may be to blame. now for a major change at an oakland intersection.

>> i'm sara stinson reporting in oakland kron. 4 news. >> 7.34 right now and the death of a homeless in antioch who was killed last week has been ruled as blunt force trauma to the head and chest. you can see here a photo of the victim and flowers and memorials placed at the site. we're desmond cole lost his life. investigators also at the crime scene. they found a large rock, but they're not sure if that was the murder weapon or not. we took talked to some people who knew him. >> ask i mean, you know, i mean, i think he had his issues. >> but the big, you know, you never did wrong anybody that i know. you know, mean, it would talk out loud little bit, you know, but >> that was just him. >> investigators are still trying to piece together what happened. >> 7.35 is the time and look at this. the federa transit administration is investing billions into san francisco's public transit systems. and this is a project called the portal. the goal is to connect caltrain in california's

high-speed rail to the salesforce transit center in downtown san francisco. that was an artist rendering of what it might look like when it's done. but on monday, the federal transit administration announced it was investing. 3.4 billion dollars into that project. former house speaker nancy pelosi says she's proud of how san francisco is pushing the boundaries. what public transportation can be. >> we show that san francisco is in forefront that francisco is a model for the nation. and that's not just say we need this. we need that is >> showing what's happening here. >> the project would extend the caltrain line by nearly 2 miles and develop to more underground stations reaching the salesforce transit center. once it's completed 11 transit systems will all be connected. the project still needs about 2 billion dollars if it will be fully funded. and the hope is that maybe it will be open by the year 2030. we'll pause

2 doses inside for anybody who needs it for free. and that includes inmates, their families, members of the public doesn't matter. the vending machine also offers a touch screen window where you can find out more information about other county services that help you with food, housing and mental health. the home depot is set to pay out now. 1.3 million dollars following a fire at one of its stores in san jose. actually a video of the fire. this was back in 2022. now, since then, the santa clara county da's office began an investigation of home depot stores in the county. and they discovered that the store had several fire code violations that hindered the fire fighting efforts. one included a broken sprinkler system that home depot apparently was aware of but didn't try to fix the da's office says the dillon goku. we started the fire as he was trying to steal tools. he hasn't entered a plea, though, despite several court appearances. in fact, he set for his 11th court appearance next month. and that will be for an arraignment.

breaking news. >> the story that we're covering right now on major roadways closed in fremont because of a deadly crash. kron four's michael thomas the following the details of what happened joins us now live from the scene. michael. >> really an awful car accident to say the least. and while police have not confirmed it has a fatality as of yet. family members here on the scene tell us their son was involved and did pass away. take a look. you can see just how awful this scene is and it's on fremont boulevard between thorton avenue and for all to boulevard right in front of bookies pet supply. you can see the car completely burned and wrapped around a tree with the engine completely fallen out at the bottom there. and the debris from this crash is spread out across the roadway. as far as about 100 feet away. the speed limit in this area is 30 miles an hour and that speed limit sign was knocked down during the crash. police have not given any details on what may have happened or how many people were involved or confirmed. it has
