an accident there i-2 westbound you're traveling across drive times went up to about 25 minutes. they got out the ridge pretty quickly. and now we're back down to 20 richmond fell bridge a 12 minute ride at the peak of the morning. we're at 25 and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 31 minutes. all right, james, back to you. thanks a lot. now we want to get to the breaking news, which is that deadly crash that happened this morning in fremont. yeah, we've got crawford's michael thomas has been following the story for us all morning long. >> michael. >> heartbreaking. and really just sad scene to say the least. take a look at the coroner's office is here. and you can see they also have that tow truck here. they're working to deconstruct the vehicle and i would assume take the body into their care. there is family members here at the scene. and just to give you some perspective, we've got video of what the scene looked like the coroner's office got here. and this is on fremont boulevard between thorton avenue and peralta boulevard. it's right in front of cookies. pet supply. you

can see that car completely burned and wrapped around a tree with the engine falling out completely at the bottom. and the debris from this crash is really spread out across the roadway. as far as 100 feet or so from what we can see the speed limit on fremont boulevard in this specific area is 30 miles an hour. and the sign with that speed limit was knocked down during this accident. police have not yet given any details on what may have happened or how many people were involved or confirmed that it was a fatality. however, family members here on the scene tell me it was their son that was involved in that their son did pass away. those family members. did speak with the coroner's office a short time ago and they're still here. stand on. standby. if we bring the camera back out here live, you can see they've got the fire truck which is covering up that vehicle where it currently is. and on the other side of it, it's our to show you on camera. but from what i can see, they are, you know, signed through parts of that vehicle and taking it apart to get the body and put it into their care. so as we get more

details from the coroner's office and fremont police on what exactly happened during these early morning hours during this crash will keep you updated. but that is the very latest here in fremont to michael thomas. i will send it back to life in the studio for thank you. terrible scene. i'm glad blocking our view. actually. thank you, michael. >> 903, is the time. we're also following another big story out of the south bay where we're learning new details this morning about a shooting involving police in san jose. officers shot a man who they say had a gun crime project moment has more. well, the shooting here that happened sunday in the seaside san jose apartment complex is the 3rd officer-involved shooting to happen so far this year having city leaders want to look further into thehe officer-involved shootings when they do happen. it also has residents here at this apartment complex, a concern. >> it all started with a 9-1-1 outside his van. he was later identified as 41 year-old ricardo view. every out and by

increasing and they want to form a group to study each time officer was shot at in the coming days. i will bring together a group of internal and external partners for the purpose of analyzing these attacks. now, san jose police says that the shooting is still very much under investigation. questions as to why the shooting happened in the first place or why neighbors called saying that there was a man shooting out of his van. those are still yet to be determinad. meantime, the every hour remains in the hospital in critical condition were any side san jose? jack moment. >> kron 4 news. >> and san jose's installing 33 new high-speed cameras to catch speeders throughout the city. they should be up and running by the year 2025. next year in late in the year. they think right now the city is trying to figure out where to place them. they want to reduce high-speed collisions and they really want to spread them around the city. so they're going vote on the placement this fall. and their goal is to have them spread to areas, especially in communities of color and low-income neighborhoods because they want to cut down on fatal crashes. there. now

for the first 60 days of this program, drivers will get a warning. but then after that, there will be fines and there will be exceptions, low-income drivers that can't afford the fine will be asked to provide community service hours. city leaders say that law enforcement will have no access to the camera footage for crimes. the cameras will only be used to enforce the speed limit. >> well, in the east bay, police have arrested a 13 year-old for a 13 year old boy for that deadly stabbing of an 18 year-old out that the safe when san leandro. so this stabbing happened at the bancroft avenue location was in early april. investigators say security cameras recordnd the 2 getting into a fight before the 13 year-old and stabbed the victim in the chest and the arm police are in that upper resting that teen suspect at his high school last week. also happening today, san francisco city officials and nurses at berg, san francisco general hospital plan to announce new legislation that they hope will address the nursing shortage. so the ballot

initiative would specifically address the shortage of nurses and 9-1-1, operators in the city. they say the legislation would improve the retention and recruitment of nurses and it would also give 9-1-1 operators, the same retirement benefits as other first responders, if approved, the measure will be on the november ballot. we're actually gonna learn more about this at a press conference at 10 o'clock this morning. what you know, what we find out? >> also today, more than 200 rideshare and delivery drivers for lyft, uber and doordash are going to be rallying outside the california supreme court in san francisco as the high court considers a legal challenge to prop 22. the law says the drivers for these companies are independent contractors. and so they're not entitled to benefits after a pass to lower court ruled it was unconstitutional. but that ruling was later reversed. so now it is in the hands of the high court to decide then they're hearing the case, the workers, they don't support

this law because they say it denies them the ability make a living wage and it denies basic rights like paid sick leave and overtime which they say is a 42 other california workers. the rally is at 12, 30 in for the california supreme court building in san francisco. 2 people were arrested, accused of robbery last night. police say they stole money and a car and then took off and they ran into something unexpected as they were trying to run away from the police. okay. so first the robber took place in south of market area at 8th and folsom streets. police found the suspect in a stolen car. and when they tried to pull them over, then there was a chase. eventually the car crashed into a driverless car at ls and 14th near costco. both of those people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. >> now to some developing news where legal experts are now weighing in on the re-sentencing of david de pap. so the path was convicted of attacking paul pelosi at his san francisco home. the pat

was initially sentenced last friday to 30 years in prison. but after that hearing, a federal judge said she failed to give the path the opportunity to speak during his sentencing, which legal experts say is a very important thing in this case. >> it takes consideration whether the defendant, the accused and now the convicted in this case, the pop is sorry for what he did. >> well, kron 4 legal expert michael cardoza you just heard from says that the pats lawyer could try to continue appealing the case despite the judge correcting her mistake, the paps re-sentencing hearing has been set now for next tuesday. berkley business owners will have to decide how much they really want those parklets because now they're going to get charged for them. the city is planning to start charging rent for those parking spaces that have been turned into outdoor dining and sitting. the parklets first popped up during the pandemic. as we know served as a lifeline really for a lot of restaurants in the bay area.

use of those spaces have been free until now. but starting next week, berkeley is set to start charging restaurants in some cases, thousands of dollars a year for them. >> it's going to be a big expense that was going to be hard for us to absorb. so we asked if you can pay the monthly and they said yes to that. so paying about 1500 bucks a month to read this outdoor space? >> you know, the city is now requiring businesses to apply for permits to add or keep their parklets. >> it's 9.10 and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, antioch police have ruled on the reason of death for a homeless man. the question is, though, who did it? and a mural in san francisco is causing a lot of people to turn their heads. some to turn their heads. some to complain others to synthesize.

your help to solve the killing of a father and fiance george. >> off a key c was shot and killed on crosby avenue near foot hole boulevard. it happen on november. 26 of last year. so police are asking anybody for information. all they know is he was standing outside with friends when he was shot and killed in that several suspects were seen leaving the area and a dark car. antioch police are now letting us know what was the cause of death for a homeless man who died last week. they say it was blunt force trauma to the head and chest, but they don't know anything more than that. this is another crime they'd like to solve. you can see a photo of the victim here. and there's also some things that were left remember desmond co that was his name. and those investigators also found a big rock at the crime scene. they're not sure if that was used. maybe it was the murder weapon. we talked to some people who knew him. >> i ask i mean, you know, i mean, i think he had his

inmates, their families, members of the public vending machine also offers a touch screen with information about other county services like food and housing and mental health, too. home depot has agreed to pay 1.3 million dollars now following a fire at one of its own stores in san jose. so we have video of the fire broke out back in 2022, it was huge. since then, the santa clara county da's office has launched an investigation into what happened and those investigators say the store had several fire code violations that hindered firefighting efforts and one of which included a broken sprinkler system that apparently home depot was aware of. but according to didn't try to fix the da's office says the dillon go queen started the fire as he was trying to steal tools. he, by the way, has not entered a plea yet, despite several court appearances, in fact, he's about to make his 11th court appearance next month for his arraignment.
