and burst into flames. a police officer arriving within seconds tries to put out those flames. a few moments later, he along with several neighbors pull a man from that burning wreckage. one witness tells kron for the quick thinking of that officer and the neighbors probably saved the passenger's life. >> i couldn't yearly process what i was witnessing it first. honestly, if it wasn't for the cops show first and the people who came out hartman complex. i i honestly >> the exact cause of that accident is still under investigation. in san francisco, fire crews rescued 2 people from a burning apartment building near the famed painted ladies. images showing flames and smoke pouring out of that building. the fire sparked around 11 31 this morning and impacted the top 2 floors of a three-story building. the 2 people were taken to the hospital, 7 adults and 3 dogs in total

were displaced. the cause of this fire under investigation. >> san jose police have arrested a wanted assault suspect. police say 50 year-old julianne martinez of san jose pulled a young girl under the 2.80 overpass near south 11th street and sexually assaulted her last month. the girl managed to fight her attacker then took off on a bicycle. investigators located martinez and arrested him on multiple charges, including assault. also in san jose, the man has been arrested after police say he smashed a shop window, right where a little child, the city this is caught on camera. it happened last month at an ice cream shop on born square. the child and their guardian walked into the store. police say 36 year-old jam sherry smashed the window while the child was sitting inside. some of the glass hit the child, the guardian, then grab the kid left. the suspect is facing charges including assault with a deadly weapon

and child abuse. police are asking the community to help identify that child and their guardian. >> new at 5 east bay regional parks are warning the public about coyote says.visitation to the park's increases in the warmer months encounters with coyotes do become more common. they're offering some coyotes safety tips. you can avoid hiking along. keep your children and your pets nearby. of course, keep your dogs on a leash. always be aware of your surroundings as you walk jog or ride, you should definitely stay on trails and never attempt to feed a coyote if you come across one, if you do encounter a coyote, you should walk away calmly and leave the area as quickly as possible. >> they're all over the place as we take a live look outside here at the golden gate bridge on a tuesday. and for most of the bay, it was warm. almost hot. yeah. really lawrence. a little bit of haze out there at the golden gate bridge. but

>> not too much. what a day. lots of sunshine around the bay area today. probably the warmest day of the week today and then we're going to watch the temperatures begin to cool down and maybe had a below average as we head into the holiday weekend. but >> out the door right now, you've got a nice sight to see lots of sunshine even along the coastline a's moving inside the golden gate bridge and probably couple patches of fog a little bit later on temperatures. well, cooler coast side. 61 degrees in pacifica. still, 81 degrees warmer in san jose. 82 in dublin. 85 degrees in concord. 87th in fairfield in 89 in vacaville. so really some nice temperatures out there around the bay area. now a beautiful evening setting itself up offshore winds. little bit of a northerly component. the winds some patchy fog into the monterey bay and along the immediate mateo county coastline. otherwise, we're looking good right now. that's kind of where we sit. you've got onshore. wind returning likely going to see a little fog forming out there a little bit later on more fog on the way tomorrow, though, should be a nice day. expect a lot of sunshine and some nice weather ahead this evening. looks

great. get out there. enjoy. maybe go for a walk outside temperatures stay warm in the valleys in the 70's through 8 o'clock tonight. thanks. alerts. the california state assembly has passed a bill that allows local governments to get more control of autonomous vehicles, sit insurers, equitable access to the services and provides an opportunity for first responders to override these things during emergencies. additionally, autonomous vehicle companies can be cited for traffic violations just like a human could behind the wheel. the bill passed with bipartisan support. >> while rent prices in most bay area, cities are on the rise. oakland is seeing a decline data from apartment list found oakland's asking rents fell by 10% over the last year. kron four's rob nesbitt joining us live in studio now with more on what experts say is causing this decline. rob. >> no, well, the data from apartment list found that the median asking rent for an oakland one-bedroom apartment in january of 2019 was about

$2400 a month. that same apartment last month had a median rent of $1800 a month. >> a 10% drop in rent prices in oakland is getting people's attention. andrea rentals is located in the city and helps match renters with tenants owner andrea day says rent prices usually go up in may, but that's not what's happening in the east bay. it's taking people are being more choosy. there are. it's >> it's bit of a different game this year and that it's taken us a little bit by surprise. and it's definitely taking our clients by surprise while rent prices for apartments and more affordable bases, locations still matters. seeing more of a decline in monthly rent in downtown oakland compared to other areas. >> there are places where previously the rams were sort of you know, really pushing the tippy top of the market that have really fallen. but then there are other areas kind by oakland or mills where

studios has cut 14% of its workforce. those layoffs will impact approximately 175 employees at its emeryville animation studio. >> for the company is based. according to reports, the job cuts. we'll allow pixar to shift its focus back to projects meant for theatrical

rather than streaming releases. pixar is best known for the disney movies. toy story and up. >> this november, voters in san francisco could get a chance to vote on legislation aimed at improving the shortages of nurses and 9-1-1, dispatchers supervisor ahsha safa fi who is also running for mayor announced new legislation today that would change the city's charter. he says it would improve the retention and recruitment of nurses. it would also give 9-1-1 operators. he says the same retirement benefits as other first responders. >> we believe this is a recruitment tool. this is a retention tool but also makes fiscal sense for our city. >> the legislation still needs to be approved by the board of supervisors before it could appear on the ballot. >> happened to hear someone yell and about a mile away and but your check it out. he just happened to be alex. >> a happy ending for a

missing dog and hiker. they were lost in the east bay hills for days now. first responders are applauding the efforts of volunteers and others for coming to the hikers. 8 as kron four's terisa stasio shares. they're also reminding the community about safety measures. if you do plan to go and tackle an adventure. >> we were out on san antonio reservoir collecting a little knowledge. you pull. we're just doing regular stuff we just flight noise and we have been where the hiker that was missing. and so we got real quiet just listen for anything and happened to hear someone yell and about a mile away and but your check it out. we just happened to be alex. >> nick could is a biologist with the san francisco public utilities commission. he talked with me tuesday about finding missing hiker alex stature and his dog. the 2

and enjoy all the beautiful outdoors. but you got to be careful out there as we've some warm weather out there. boy, it is been toast around parts of bay area today. some of those numbers getting close to 90 degrees. that's getting on the hot side in some spots inland. a little haze out there right now. you can see even inside the bay looking down from our mount tam cam 2500 feet shaking around just a little bit of the wind air quality. got a couple of centuries now showing up in a yellow there in san francisco apartment, also into the oakland area in the south bay, too. as we've seen some of those students of building up the the theft, a ridge of high pressure. but that should begin to change in the next couple of days. they were see a pretty significant onshore wind get kicking up mostly been green for tomorrow, although south bay still may be some lingering haze there. otherwise. yeah, that's seabreeze kind of kicking into gear again and as that wind becomes more of a westerly wind overnight tonight and tomorrow. i think we'll see a little more fog begin to settle in the coming days and the temperatures are going to start to cool off. overall, though, have more of a northerly component to the wind there and that northerly

component. that's that offshore wind that blows the fog away. and that's where we sit right now. high pressure trying to build in here. but but that ridge going start to weaken. we've got a couple of fronts going drop over the top of that. so got some more fog in the forecast, especially along the coastline, still stay warm in the valleys. but the temperatures going to take a bit of a hit by tomorrow it's of those hot 80's. yeah. we're talking about 70's popping up around the bay area about 77 in san jose. 72 very nice day in oakland, 66 degrees of cooler temperatures go though, probably 66 downtown near the sunset. you see those temperatures much cooler, probably in the upper 50's up toward the beaches, get a tan i don't know. but i'm barely walk around the studio tonight. yeah, i got my 13,000 steps it. you did 6 miles. what were you banking on when you said? think it on 3, 3. yeah. doubled it. yeah. doubled. yeah. tuesday. double. >> we'll take a big loss of our police. they i like things him basis. >> oriole day weekend, just a few days away. many people are planning to hit the roads to celebrate, including lawrence,

but is the high cost of travel a concert kron four's lezla gooden reports. >> memorial day weekend for many is the unofficial kickoff to summer vacation. teens like olivia, sunny say they're taking a road trip for a friend's party. we're going to be like carpooling with a bunch of other girls. but i'd say the drive to stinson beach is like 40 minutes in the teens aren't alone, according aaa, 38 million people are expected to travel by car during memorial day weekend. this is the highest number triple a has seen since it began tracking this data back in 2000. yeah, we're thinking all splitting the gas so we all help it. >> our polling is like butterfield. yeah, too. so. >> aaa says travelers hitting the road are expected to drive 50 miles or more from their home. and this is maryland who says she's going out of town for a friend's wedding. >> drive to senators and you need a car to get to, you know, dinner and the wedding and everything. so right now, the average price of gas in

>> i mean, they're into this. that was san jose mayor matt mahan will along with other celebrating the opening of the first dispensary in downtown san jose. purple. lotus is located on west santa clara street for years. this city had the strict rules about where dispensaries could operate relegating the mainly due and drought and dust real areas. but last year the city council revise regulations on where dispensaries can rents space, which allowed them to move downtown. and that comes as the state assembly has passed a bill that would allow out cannabis cafes in california. the proposed law would let these amsterdam style cafe sell food and non alcoholic drinks and host live entertainment while letting people buy and use marijuana products inside the state

senate has yet to approve the bill. and governor newsom vetoed a previous version saying it would violate state law on smoke-free workplace us. >> san francisco based openai says they plan to halt the use of one of their chatgpt voices after actress scarlet johansen said it sounded eerily similar to her own voice. >> touching. >> how would you tax me? >> that we just heard was johansen's voice in the movie her where joaquin phoenix's character falls in love with his ai assistant played by your hanson. the actor says openai had contacted her last year about lending her voice to its newest system known as sky. she declined that offer. johansen says she was shocked and angered when the chat gpt voice was released and says it sounded like her says openai reluctantly has agreed to take down the voice after she hired lawyers. openai says the voice

>> tonight at 5.30, on behalf of homeowners in the state and alameda county today, district attorney pamela price announced a major lawsuit her office filed against home insurance companies forcefully took all reports from oakland where price claims the companies have defrauded their customers.

>> farmers group incorporated and several of its entities are listed as defendants in the complaint filed in superior court of california by the alameda county district attorney's office. the lawsuit was submitted late last month on behalf of the people of california. it seeks injunctive relief and civil penalties. accusing farmers group of using software to charge homeowners premiums for policies that do not adequately protect homes or compensate them. in case of a major loss. insurance companies use a third-party software that we identified in the complaint that generates estimates based on generalized features and not on the actual. >> features of a particular home or properly estimating the cost to replace the home. during a news conference in oakland tuesday announcing the legal action district attorney pamela price as the people impacted by the lawsuit. >> represent about 15% of the state's homeowners offering these lower premiums based
