cooled air that will gently start to stream initially backup along the coastline, but also help to cool us down for the rest of the bay area. winds taking a little bit of a shift today. and that means that we will start to have more of that marine influence. temperatures right now are down in the 50's. so good chance to get those windows opened up lead. a cool breeze in this morning. some 40's up in the north bay. our warmest spots are definitely the inland east bay like pittsburgh and brett, what only at 61 degrees currently later on today. daytime highs definitely cooler than yesterday's down into the low 80's inland and 70's along the bay shore. we've got even cooler weather just around the corner. so that is going to be something that really brings our inland areas, especially a break from the heat in the days to come. i'll get to that. still ahead. as for your roads, we have out there this morning is pretty easy going conditions fog is generally pretty limited to the immediate coastline. so that bodes well for visibility as you are getting on the roads extra early 12 minutes across

the mateo bridge. no issues on really any of our spans so far. as you can see, the golden gate bridge does have just a little bit of fog. but visibility is overall holding. okay. re to. all right. john, thank you for that. ok, let's head to the south bay. >> the man is in custody in san jose after police say he smashed the windows of a baskin robbins, sending glass flying on to a man and a child in the shop. the incident happened last month, but police recently made that arrest crawford's jet moment. has that story. >> let's set the scene here for a moment. it is springtime in east side. san jose. the temperatures are warming up and you want to escape the heat. so child head to baskin robbins and once you do head to this baskin-robbins, you head inside, you wait for the ice cream when all of a sudden boom, a man runs up seemingly randomly breaks the glass, sending shards of it. flying on to you and your kid. you both go running has neighbors here quite concerned over the safety here and that has police looking for those victims. shocking surveillance camera video from last month depicts the attack. you see

that child sitting down inside the baskin robbins off a born square and then glasgow's flying sending shards of glass towards that child. you can see them and they're screaming. that's horrible. happened to like like i said that, come with my my nephew, my knees in something like that happen. it will be by scary living rivera lives in this neighborhood off capitol expressway and says this baskin robbins to is a family staple. well, it not not so good because we come to relax and have a time in nearly a month since that incident, san jose finally announced they arrested the suspect identified as pay ms farhi. >> he's booked into county jail and charged with child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. >> and while police haven't shared much info about the suspect, mandeep singh who works the liquor store next door says he's familiar with. i know is that guy cars use becomes almost or i like shopper and says the last time as far was here, it was about a week ago and has bought beer here for the last 9 months.

>> he says crime in the area has been increasing the need to fix them. i think that and this was made possible because we have a partnership. the district attorney's office. meantime, san jose police say while as far awaits his day in court, they want to make right with the victims at the heart of the incident. i don't really want full closure for this case in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. >> well, first facing races threats and now a fire at his home. san francisco da walker speaking out this morning. terrie williams, a longtime resident who is be loved, but almost everybody that lives in his community. he was actually meeting with a member of mayor breed's office at city hall when his home on grove street right near alamo square and the pain it lays caught fire. so it was really late yesterday morning with williams discussing ways to address repeated racist threats. he's indoor recent much. then it said news of the fire. it's not quite clear how it started. the williams can only hope this wasn't escalation of the hate crimes.

>> it does a disservice to what we need to do to make sure that the city is put first and we're prioritizing the work that we need to do for the city as a whole. the economic opportunities alone make pandas worth it. it's not just because pandas are cute and cuddly, but it's because of financially what it could do for not just but also our economic recovery in san francisco last week, a board committee rejected the fundraising proposal saint. >> the amendments are needed, but the mayor was clear. she's determined to continue this fight. our new telehealth line is launching in the city for unhoused people to start their recovery treatment. the pilot program will provide a real-time connection with doctor to help prescribe medication. space is also be provided to start treatment for fentanyl. an opioid addiction. the boat was tested out in march and the city found that 55 people started treatment for opioid addiction 173 people at telehealth visits nearly a dozen people

teachers at one to 20 students and one teacher effort. whole elementary school and san bruno. they were all exposed to tear gassed according to the sheriff's office, the agency was holding a routine tactical training class when that gas drifted outside. response, the department is causing off future chemical agent training exercises while they review current practices. at a san francisco prostitution sting operation led to 30 people being arrested. police say undercover officers arrested 17 people while they were ple for accepting money for acts in the mission. police say the goal is to decrease the amount of workers and create a safer neighborhood. california senate approved a bill that would help address police staffing shortages in toledo. the legislation would allow qualified retired officers to work up to full time for the solano county sheriff's office in the meantime, though, continue to recruit and train new officers which takes an average of up to 2 years to

that we've had consistent rain up in the pacific northwest. will the bay area and the state has remained dry. but as we move into saturday, that next low pressure dives into right past us in results in what we could be seeing in the form of a few sprinkles up in the sierra as well as the southern cascades come saturday of this weekend. so keep your eye on that. the bay area may even see a drop of water to, although honestly, it's looking pretty unlikely for those of us this far westward temperatures today are going to range from the 60's at the coastline. lot of 70's along the bay shore to some 80's still holding on for antioch conquered, say there is a santa rosa and napa look ahead. shows temperatures cooling even further tomorrow, friday into saturday. saturday of your memorial day weekend looking especially cool with the early 60's for our inland and ba shore cities. memorial day on monday will be pleasant. lots of sunshine and highs in the 60's to 70's. as for the roads this morning,

nice easy morning commute. so far you can see the evidence of a little bit of fog out there about the east bay hills, but not on our bridge spans, which does mean good visibility as you are making your crossings. richmond center fell bridge only 7 minutes and just the slightest amount of fog at the golden gates, right? all right, john, thank you for that. well, housing project for farm workers is officially set to get underway in half moon bay this week. >> san mateo county board of supervisors voted unanimously to invest 12 million dollars. the 47 homes for low income farm workers, the homes every bill at stone high road about a mile from downtown apple bay out of the 47 homes night to them are going to be for families, displaced by that mass shooting last year, 7 farmworkers were killed. and since that shooting, san mateo county has been focusing on creating proper housing for the farm workers. as for the mussel farms involved in deadly shooting, they're going to pay nearly half a million dollars damages to employees over labor violations. federal

investigators say concord farms, california terra gardens, house workers in sickening conditions. well, they slept on dirty mattresses and were exposed to insects, trash in mold. investigators say the farm's owners also deducted money from the workers paychecks for the substandard housing and failed to pay workers overtime. this november. voters in san francisco could get a chance to vote on legislation aimed at improving the shortages that we've been seeing of nurses and 9-1-1, dispatchers. we have supervisor ahsha safire who's running for mayor now to new legislation yesterday that he says would improve the retention and recruitment of nurses and also give 91 operators the same retirement benefits as other first responders. >> we believe this is a recruitment tool. this is a retention tool but also makes fiscal sense for our city. >> the legislation still needs to be approved by the board of supervisors before it can appear on the november ballot.

well, we all know the big one is coming. the question is, are we ready for a major earthquake that was put to the test in a big way during a major exercise in sonoma county. take a look. >> it's the one. a massive quake has struck northern sonoma county. >> dozens of first responders gathered at the citrus fairgrounds in cloverdale to test their skills in responding to such a disaster victims. we've got about 50 victims in there. >> so you're going to be very, very busy. this is the definition of a mass casualty incident. >> there's a lot of prep going into this. dozens of students go through makeup to simulate head injuries and broken bones. the fire police, medical responders are overwhelmed by simultaneous incidents. buildings are down some on fire. 2 buses collide leaving dozens of students and adults firefighters have to pry their way through the metal to get to the victims.

cell phone towers are out and for the next hours and days, first responders won't be getting outside. help because those agencies are responding to their own emergencies. that's where the search coming in search is community emergency response. team civilians often your neighbors. we train to step in when professional first responders are overwhelmed by disaster. >> practice getting victims to safety by and freedom operate. >> lessons from past disasters have shown many residents won't evacuate. lesser animals are accounted now they're see that the california veterinary emergency team, they'll work with cart the community. animal response team to make sure everything from a dog or cat to livestock are treated and put their owners minds at ease. >> we can make sure that we're giving the best care possible to animals and then turn people can keep themselves today. safe by knowing that those animals are getting the appropriate care.

to the east bay because police in oakley believe cracked a assault cold case from 2002 after a man's dna popped up in the national database when he was arrested in idaho back in 2022. so 22,002 police say the girl was walking her dog near laurel road and oakley when a man got out of his car pointed a gun at her, demanded she get in the back seat of the car and he sexually assaulted her. police say she was able to escape and go to a home nearby for help. they say no dna matches were found until 2022. 1 day cold hit showed up on the database to identify man living in idaho. oakley. police say they went to idaho last week to collect dna from the man and they compare to the cold case file and they allege it was a direct match. they say they arrested here ferguson a few days later on 3 charges. police say he is in custody in idaho will be brought to contra costa county later on this week. time now

back to the kron. 4 morning news. hopefully you took advantage of the heat yesterday. >> you got outdoors today. not going to be as hot as a good morning. hanover. >> we're definitely taking the turnout cooler and cooler weather ahead of us yesterday was easily the hottest day of the forecast. so maybe a little too warm for you. some relief today looking outside at coit hour right here. skies are pretty clear up above, at least in this view. we do have the return of fog up along the san mateo and santa cruz coastlines right up and down the peninsula into the santa cruz mountains. most of us elsewhere actually seeing some pretty clear conditions right now. but winds have definitely shifted in. now we're going do start to see that coastal influence. winds have picked up a little bit further inland

>> well, his journey in state court begins at 9 o'clock this morning as jury selection will begin. david de pap already convicted in federal court, but now it's state prosecutors who want to get their hands on him. the charges a little bit different than federal court. and because the crime allegedly happened in san francisco. that's why it's going to be handled also by state prosecutors. now, let me show you the video. this all went down on october 2022, when david de pap is accused by state prosecutors of going to the pelosi home in san francisco. they say he was looking for then speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, but she was not home at the time after that, according to paul pelosi, her husband, he woke up seeing david de pap at the foot of his bed when police officers arrived. body cam footage shows that david de pap hit paul pelosi on the

head to times and he suffered a fractured skull that he will have to wear plates on his skull for the rest of his life. now, the charges in state court reyna f little bit different in federal court. the state charges include attempted murder, burglary salt in federal court. and the reason why it reached the federal court is because nancy pelosi is a federal official. so they were able to go after him in that particular court. and actually he was sentenced last week to 50 years, maximum for what he did in that court. now, state prosecutors, they will begin their trial and that should begin about 9 o'clock this morning with the first step. of course, selecting a jury. they believe the trial should last about 3 weeks or so. >> all right. well, thank you for that breakdown. that of it. all right. i was a 5.33, o scary moments for elementary school students and a teacher example after sheriff's office

training exercise goes wrong with that, michael thomas standing there to tell us how the kids and the students all got sick morning. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. essentially it was gas and pepper spray. a mixture of both in the sheriff's office said it's really the wind that blew it over from their location to the school. take a look. this is a map up on your screen. you can see just exactly where we are now, according to officials that the san francisco sheriff's office, a total of 20 students and one teacher at patel elementary school in san bruno, reported having burning sensations in their eyes, nose and throat and the cars with a mixture of gas and pepper spray, which came from the san francisco sheriff's office training space on its jail property. not too far away. the sheriff's office at the time is hosting a routine tactical training class which is being held inside an isolated part of the jail. but officials say somehow gas from the building inside got outside the building, making its way to the school, which this is the first time they say that it happened in the last 20 years

as they've been doing this routine training for that long. and the sheriff's office did put out a statement. it's up on your screen now saying these trainings are critical to law enforcement because they allow peace officers to test the safety of equipment for potential leaks and they provide staff with hands-on experience with chemical agents, preparing them both physically and mentally for real life situations. we sincerely apologize to protest a elementary school, its faculty and students and their families for this unforeseen event, which must have been especially scary for children. and quote, now, as of now, they have postponed any of these trainings and things doing with chemicals as they continue to investigate and figure out just exactly how those chemicals left the building got out of and essentially made its way here to the elementary school. but back out here live, we're planning to chat with some parents this morning. and i will tell you reyna, it is quite windy out here right now. so i can essentially see how that wind can blow something from one area to another. and keep in mind there right next door to each

other. that is the very latest here in saint bernard. michael thomas will send it back to for so unfortunate that happened to the kids. thank you for that. michael. >> a san francisco prostitution sting operation led to 30 people being arrested. police say for 8 nights in the mission recently, undercover officers arrested 17 people who are paying for acts and 30 people for accepting money for acts. police say they were focusing on shotwell street and south van ness avenue. more than half of the people were from outside san francisco and california. police say the goal is to decrease the amount of workers and to create a safer neighborhood. well, in the north bay, the california senate approved a bill that would actually help address police staffing shortages in vallejo. the legislation would allow qualified retire. police to work up to full time for the solano county sheriff's office. cincy provide additional deputies needed to a delay, help during the staffing crisis. they've been having. senator bill dodd wrote the bill city council

declared a local emergency due to the staffing issues at the police department. don says department has authorized to have 132 police but their down to 31. he says a lot retired officers to work will give the department a well. they continue to recruit and train new officers which takes an average of about 2 years. alameda county district attorney pamela price suing several home insurance companies. they're being accused of defrauding. they're all customers. rice announced that lawsuit was filed on behalf of state homeowners farmers. insurance group is included in the lawsuit and their cues of using software to charge homeowner premiums. don't properly protect homes or even compensate that in case of a huge loss. >> we believe that the evidence will show that these insurance companies have utilized a software application that allows them essentially to defraud homeowners by charging them

premiums for insurance that provide inaccurate and low replacement costs for insured homes. >> price also says they violate multiple state regulations, rules and laws designed to protect consumers. while rent prices in most bay area, cities are on the up and up. oakland has seen a decline data from apartment list found that oakland's asking rent fell by at least 10% in the last year. how rob nesbitt spoke with someone who deals rental properties in the east bay. >> the data from apartment list found that the median asking rent for a one-bedroom apartment in oakland in january of 2019 was about $2400 a month. the median rent for that same apartment last month was $1800 a month. a 10% drop in rent prices in oakland is getting people's attention. >> andria rentals is located in the city and helps match renters with tenants owner andrea day says rent prices usually go up in may, but that's not what's happening in

the east bay. there's more concessions. people are >> you know, they're just who's here and it feels like they have more >> time and space. an opportunity to choices. and so it just feels different while rent prices for apartments and more affordable bases, locations still matters. seeing more of a decline in monthly rent in downtown oakland compared to other areas. >> there are places where previously the rents were sort of you know, really pushing that to top of the market that have really fallen. but then there are other areas kind by oakland or mills where you're actually seeing an increase in rents. there are also more incentives being offered to tenants in oakland. >> at some locations, andrea rentals office a month free as long as 10 inside their leased by a certain date day says that's because of the 2.3% rent cap and the city. if you have a place as rented for 2400 and you say, you know, we're not finding anybody. >> and you just drop it, it
