started off looking outside in some of our views. we do have a very nice sunrise taking shape this view right here at san jose. maybe not the nice sunrise, but you do have those clear skies overhead. it's not a good sunrise from that angle anyways. a little bit of fog up and down the san mateo coastline this morning. most of us are seeing the bright skies. winds have transition now pushing in from the west allowing that school sea breeze to come back through, really helping to cool things off 40's and 50's for current temps, oakland sitting at 54 petaluma nevado in the upper 40's later on today. daytime highs in the 70's to 80's not as warm as yesterday. so we're starting that cooldown process which continues this weekend. i'll get to it in your full forecast rain. all right, john, thanks that. let's get you rolling here on a wednesday traveling into the city right now about 15 minutes making your way. not seen any major accidents there. >> 7 to ridge also looks good. just under 16 minutes, 81 to one richmon sandra fell bridge around 9 minutes and

the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls looking beautiful. 20 minute ride on this wednesday. titans. back to you. thanks. a lot rain. a 601. and today david de pap is back in a san francisco courtroom. yeah. this time to face criminal charges filed by district attorney brooke jenkins. >> we have kron four's will tran at the hall of justice in san francisco with the latest will. >> his journey now heads to state prosecutors after federal prosecutors. they got their hands on him and actually convicted him in federal court last october. and he was sentenced last friday. but in this particular case, now, state prosecutors because the alleged crime took place in san francisco. now, let me show you the video. this all started back in october 2022, when david de pap is accused of going too, then speaker of the house nancy pelosi is home in san francisco. she was not home at the time. paul pelosi, her husband was home at the time

when police officers arrived at the home. that's when body cam footage allegedly showed that david de pap hit paul pelosi on his head with a hammer that he has a skull fracture that he has to wear a play on his head for the rest of his life. i mentioned alleged even though he was convicted in federal court because this is a brand new trial. so prosecutors will try to convict him here. in the meantime, he is obviously innocent until proven guilty, even though he was already convicted in federal courts and sentenced to 50 years in prison for those crimes. those charges, james darya in the state court, the charges a little bit different in the federal court. they were federal crimes. i logged against him, including attempted kidnapping of a federal official and the attack on immediate member of a federal official that being speaker of the house then speaker of the house nancy pelosi, as far as the state

charges a little bit different attempted murder, burglary and assault. so difference here. and that's why they have to go to trial. and this particular case, jury selection will begin at 9 o'clock this morning in trial should last several weeks. of course, will be in court once that happens. and we do expect david de pap to be in court this morning. but again, this is the state's turn. and even when this is over, ice also has to deal with them because he is a canadian resident illegally in the united states. back to ok? thanks a lot. we'll make a scary moments now for elementary school students and teachers in san bruno. >> after a sheriff's office training exercise goes wrong. chemicals were released into the air that caused 20 students to get sick. kron four's. michael thomas is live at portola elementary school where it happened. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. that's right. it happened yesterday in this tear gas and pepper spray essentially was blown over by

the wind. that's according to the sheriff's office. really frightening a handful of students. take a look. this is actually a map of just exactly where that elementary school is now, according to san francisco sheriff's total of 20 students and one teacher here at elementary school in san bruno reported having burning sensations in their eyes, nose and throat and the cause was a mixture of gas and pepper spray. they came from the san francisco sheriff's office trainings property, which is right next door. there's a jail not too far from here. the sheriff's office was hosting a routine tactical training class which they say has been held for about 20 years or so. and it's actually inside an isolated part of the jail. but they say somehow the gas from inside the building got outside the building, making its way to the school. now, take a look. this is actually comment from the actual sheriff's office saying, quote, these trainings are critical to law enforcement because they allow peace officers to test the safety of equipment for potential leaks and they provide staff with hands-on

experience with chemical agents, preparing member both physically and mentally for real life situations. we sincerely apologize to port allen elementary school, its faculty and students and their families for this unforeseen event, which must've been especially scary for children. now, as of now, they have actual postpone any of these training events involving those chemicals until they figure out just exactly how those chemicals got outside from the excuse me from inside jail outside of the jail here to the elementary school. back out here live. i will tell you all it is very windy up here. so i could see if something was spread. let's say even. a couple 100 feet from here, it would get to me very, very quickly. so as the morning progresses and students start to show up. we're going to chat with some parents and hear their thoughts on it. but that is the very latest here in san bruno michael we'll send it back to okay. thank you, michael. time now 606. in the south bay. a man is in custody in san jose. police say that he smashed the windows >> of a baskin robbins and

glass went flying on to a man and a child. and scary situation. this was last month. but officers recently just now made the arrest for shaq moment has the story. >> let's set the scene here for a moment. it is springtime in east side. san jose. the temperatures are warming up and you want to escape the heat. so child head to baskin robbins and once you do head to this baskin-robbins, you head inside, you wait for the ice cream when all of a sudden boom, a man runs up seemingly randomly breaks the glass, sending shards of it. flying on to you and your kid. you both go running has neighbors here quite concerned over the safety here and that has police looking for those victims. shocking surveillance camera video from last month depicts the attack. you see that child sitting down inside the baskin robbins off a born square and then glasgow's flying sending shards of glass flying sending shards of glass towards that child. you can screaming. that's horrible. happened to like like i said that, come with my my nephew, my knees in something like that happen. it will be by scary levy rivera lives in this neighborhood off capitol

expressway and says this baskin robbins to her is a family staple. well, it not not so good because we come to relax and have a good time in nearly a month since that incident, san jose finally announced they arrested the suspect identified as pay ms farhi. >> he's booked into county jail and charged with child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. >> and while police haven't shared much info about the suspect. >> mandeep singh who works the liquor store next door says he's familiar with. i know is that guy cars use becomes august or i like shopper and says the last time as far was here, it was about a week ago and has bought beer here for the last 9 months. >> he says crime in the area has been increasing the need to fix them. i think that and this was made possible because we have a partnership. the district attorney's office. meantime, san jose police say while as far awaits his day in court. >> they want to make right with the victims at the heart of the incident. i don't really want full closure for this case in san jose. jack

homent. kron 4 news. >> 608, is the time right now. and other news that we're following. first, he faced races threats now a fire in his home. a san francisco dog walker the one who lives here. any speaking out this morning about what happened. terry williams, longtime resident loved by everyone in his community. he was meeting with a member of mayor breed's office at city hall when his home here on grove street near the painted ladies caught fire. it was late yesterday morning when williams was talking about ways to address repeated racist threats against him in recent months. and then news of the fire. suddenly it's not clear how it started. but williams only hopes that this was not an escalation of the hate crimes.

>> 6.13, in here for things that you need to know. san francisco mayor london breed says she's moving forward with hand to bring of plan to bring 2 pandas to san francisco from china. the city is asking for permission to allow 25 million dollars to be raised for the project. a san francisco prostitution sting operation led to 30 people being arrested. 17 who were paid for acts and 13 for accepting money for act. the california senate approved a bill to help address police staffing shortages and a the legislation would allow qualified. retired officers to work with full time with us on a county sheriff's office. sorry that was. has videos not matching here, but you get the draft. and then there's the pandas which we just talked about. so those giant panda is coming to san francisco, but they're going to cost money. that's one of the stories that we're following this morning.

>> alright, 6.14, is the time that head to the north bay. 9 organizations will soon receive a total of a million dollars in grant money from solano county to reduce wildfire risks. the board of supervisors says these grants should be used to finish projects across the my campus mountains and along the russian river corridor. they say the work will range from creating buffers that prevent fire from spreading to grazing programs that will utilize animals like goats to cut back on vegetation. >> 6.40, right now. you may want to cut back on some vegetation. maybe if you got a long weekend, you want little work this weekend or if you're off and a lot of people could on the cooler. i was going to say it's cooler for yardwork been handed to cold for the water. john, her for a it's too cold need to be out the water. >> but if you're a little braver than i, i see people swimming in the bay on all those days were looking out there from mount tam at what is just a very thin veil of low cloud cover.

2002 that the woman was walking her dog near laurel road in oakley when a man sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. she eventually was able to escape and ran to a nearby home for help. police collected the attacker's dna, but they couldn't find any matches in the database at that time. then in 2022, they got an alert that there had been a possible match in idaho where a man had been arrested. oakley police went to idaho last week. they collected dna from that man compared sample they had on file. and that was a direct match. that man is 49 year-old eric ferguson and he was a resident of contra costa county in 2002. right now he's in custody in idaho. he is going to be brought back to contra costa county. 2 people are without a home this morning after there's burned down in los gatos yesterday, heavy flames were coming from the garage and spread to the attic. the cause of the blaze,

fighters investigated so far they think it was an electrical failure in the garage. nobody was hurt. a new telehealth line launches for unhoused people to start their treatment and recovery. it's a pilot program to provide real-time connection with the doctor and help prescribe medication. and a space will be provided to start treatment for fentanyl and opioid addiction. the program, which is being a test it out san francisco. they found that 55 people started treatment for opioid addiction. 173 people had telehealth visits and nearly a dozen had entered residential treatment. this november, voters in san francisco could get a chance to look at legislation that's aimed at improving the shortage. we have of nurses and 9-1-1, dispatchers supervisor testify who's running for mayor announced the new legislation to change

the city's charter. he says it would improve the retention recruitment of nurses and also give operators, the retirement benefits as other first responders. >> we believe this is a recruitment tool. this is a retention tool but also makes fiscal sense for our city. >> that legislation still needs approval from the board of supervisors before it could be placed on the november ballot. well, the construction of housing for farmworkers in half moon bay is officially srt to get underway this week. the san mateo county board of supervisors voted unanimously to put 12 million dollars towards building. 47 homes for low-income workers. the homes are going to be built at stone pine road about a mile from downtown half moon bay out of the 47 homes. 19 of them will be for the families displaced by the mass shooting last year. 7 farmworkers were killed in that shooting. since then, san mateo county has been focusing on creating proper housing for those farm workers. as for the mushroom

disservice to what we need to do to make sure that the city is put first. >> and we're prioritizing the work that we need to do for the city as a whole. the economic opportunities alone make pandas worth it. it's not just because pandas are cute and cuddly, but it's because of financially what it could do for not just but also our economic recovery in san francisco. last week, a board committee rejected the fundraising proposal saying amendments are needed, but >> the mayor was clear. she's determined to continue this fight. we will keep you posted. >> 6.34 the time in the south bay, a 2 million dollar home listed listed for sale appears to be that of a google engineer with legendary killed his wife. so the home on valley way was listed earlier this week with descriptions of move inndfreshly painted last january, google software engineer. she won eu was discovered dead inside

front passenger had jumped out of that car and ran off while the driver was there and was arrested. police say that chalet a cherry and clarissa anderson have now been booked into them are in jail or in county jail on 2 charges. >> uc davis, police need your help looking for this missing student. her name is diane men and she left campus last friday and took an amtrak to mission street in san francisco. that's where she was last seen. she was reported missing on monday. and anybody with information is asked to call the uc davis police. on the peninsula. san mateo county supervisors have agreed to provide nearly $400,000 to planned parenthood's in their area. the money is going to be used for more efficiently serving patients and to increase the capacity at the planned parenthood mar monte location. the clinics serve about 13,000 san mateo county residents every year.

homeowners by charging them premiums for insurance that provide inaccurate and low replacement costs. >> for insured homes. >> price also says they violated multiple state regulations, rules and laws designed to protect customers. >> it's 06:30am. we want to know while rent prices in most areas, cities are on the rise. oakland is actually seen a decline data from apartment list found that oakland's asking rents fell by 10% in the last year. kron four's rob nesbitt has more. the data from apartment list found that the median asking rent for a one-bedroom apartment in oakland. >> in january of 2019 was about $2400 a month. the median rent for that same apartment last month was $1800 a month. a 10% drop in rent prices in oakland is getting people's attention. >> andria rentals is located in the city and helps match
