30 right along richmond center fell bridge golden gate bridge, especially if you're traveling. the 37 out of the tolls looks good. we had a traffic hazard on the northbound side that slow you down just a little bit. it looks like they are close to getting that reasons. back to you. thanks. >> to breaking news now, former oakland police chief leronne armstrong is running to be on the oakland city council. his spokesperson confirmed to kron 4 that armstrong plans to file the paperwork at oakland city hall this morning at about 10 o'clock, according to the san francisco chronicle, he says he plans to run primarily on public safety while also highlighting oakland's budget crisis and rising homeless encampent population. armstrong started as police chief back in 2021 until he was fired in february of last year due to an investigation that accused him of mishandling to police misconduct cases. an arbitrator, though, later cleared him of any wrongdoing. and now he's suing the city for wrongful termination. 8 candidates already entered the

race for the at-large city council seat. >> time now 702. and today, david de pap is going to be back in court in san francisco have to face. >> criminal charges filed by the district attorney brooke jenkins. we have kron four's will tran out of the hall of justice this morning in san francisco. will. >> james jury selection will begin in 2 hours. so now now it's the state's turn to try david de pap after he was convicted by federal prosecutors last fall. and actually he was sentenced just last week. but now state prosecutors are going after him for what he allegedly did in san francisco. i mentioned allegedly because he has yet to be found guilty in the state courts. it's aware nuance, guilty in federal court not guilty yet in state court. let me show you the video of what it went down back on october 2022. when according to state prosecutors, david de pap went to the pelosi home in san

francisco, looking for then speaker of the house, nancy pelosi. but she was not home at the time. instead, it was paul pelosi. police officers arrived at the home, saw david de pap at the door. and that's when they say he hit paul pelosi on his head with a hammer. paul pelosi was knocked unconscious, woke up in a pool of his own blood. now that charges in state court different charges in federal court in state court. james, it is attempted murder, burglary as well as assault. now in federal court because nancy pelosi is a federal official. it was attempted kidnapping of a federal official as well as an assault on the immediate member of a federal official. and that's why federal prosecutors, we're able to go after him in state court. they have their own charges and this trial officially with has not begun because today is jury

selection. but once everything is in place, according to prosecutors, should take a couple of weeks for the trial to begin and end. as far as david de pap. but in federal court, he was sentenced to 50 years maximum sentence for what he did in federal court. >> thank you. well, 704, is the time and scary moments for some elementary school students and teachers in san bruno. there was a sheriff's office training exercise and it didn't go quite as planned, right? yeah. the wind had something to do with that. they were working with chemicals like tear gas, but it carried over to the school, causing about 20 kids to get sick. kron four's. michael thomas live at for tolling elementary school this morning on the day after. good morning, everybody. ok? >> hey, good morning, everyone. we're still learning details but essentially like you said, what we'd only guess that we can assume is that the wind actually brought it over. now, just keep in mind this jail where they were having these trainings is probably

about maybe a half mile away from the school which is behind me. take a look. this is actually a map up on your screen so we can just exactly where we are. and according to the san francisco sheriff's office, there were a total of 20 kids and one teacher here at portales elementary school in san bruno that reported having burning eyes, nose and throat yesterday. and the cause was a mixture of gas and pepper spray. nick came from the san francisco sheriff's office training space on its jail property, which again, is not too far away right next door, essentially the sheriff's office was hosting a routine tactical training class which involved the fire department along with the sheriff's office and a few others. and it was being held actually inside a part of the jail that was isolated. but officials say somehow that gas exited the building got outside and made its way over to the school, which they say this is the first time it's ever happened and they've been doing these routine trainings for more than 20 years or so specifically with these gases. they did put out a statement. it's up on your screen now saying, quote, these trainings

are critical to law enforcement because they allow peace officers to test the safety of equipment for potential leaks and they provide staff hands-on experience with chemical agents, preparing them both physically and mentally for real life situations. we sincerely apologize to port whole alum entry school, its faculty and students and their families for this unforeseen event, which must have been extremely scary for children. now, as of right now, the department is pausing all of these trainings involving those chemicals until they figure out just exactly what happened and how it happened and are in james back out here live. he did ask how everybody is doing from my understanding everybody is okay. but we're hoping to hear more today. we did reach out to the school this morning and we're here live hoping to chat with parents, but as one can assume, i would assume maybe the kids are out on recess and then that wind kind of came by and brought that tear gas and pepper spray into their eyes. but as we get more details things are confirmed, we'll keep you updated. that's a very latest here in saint bernard, michael thomas story they start showing up for

school. you'll see, you know, if they call in if they don't come to school today because we're feeling well, and and 20 students is a significant amount. so. >> michael, thank you. 707, is the time. let's go elsewhere to the south bay now where man is in custody in san jose after police say he smashed the windows of a baskin robbins ice cream shop sending glass raining down on the china. you're going to see how close that kid was to the shattered window. this happened last month. now let's take a closer look at what's going on with kron four's jack moment. >> let's set the scene here for a moment. it is springtime in east side. san jose. the temperatures are warming up and you want to escape the heat. so child head to baskin robbins and once you do head to this baskin-robbins, you head inside, you wait for that ice cream when all of a sudden boom, a man runs up seemingly randomly breaks the glass, sending shards of it flying on to you and your kid. you both go running has neighbors here quite concerned over the safety here and that has police looking for those victims. shocking surveillance

camera video from last month depicts the attack. you see that child sitting down inside the baskin robbins off a born square and then glasgow's flying sending shards of glass towards that child. you can see them and they're screaming. that's horrible. happened to like, like i said, i come with my my nephew, my knees in something like happen. it will be by scary living rivera lives in this neighborhood off capitol expressway and says this baskin robbins to her is a family staple. well, it not not so good because we come to relax and have a good time in nearly a month since that incident, san jose finally announced they arrested the suspect identified as pay ms farhi. >> he's booked into county jail and charged with child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. >> and while police haven't shared much info about the suspect, mandeep singh who works the liquor store next door says he's familiar with. i know is that guy cars use becomes almost or i like shopper mandy says the last time as far was here, it was about a week ago and has bought beer here for the last

9 months. >> he says crime in the area has been increasing the need to fix them. i think that somehow and this was made possible because we have a partnership. the district attorney's office. meantime, san jose police say while as far awaits his day in court, they want to make right with the victims at the heart of the incident. i don't really want full closure for this case in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 709. right now. and a dog walker first races threats. and now look what happened is home burned down. >> and so he's speaking out this morning about it. his name is terry williams. most people say they love him and know him in the community. >> and he was actually when the fire broke out. he was in a meeting with mayor breed's office at city hall and he was talking about those threats that happened against him in what could be done about it mean, just look at what was happening on grove street near the painted ladies where he lives his home caught fire. so now and he's questioning if those 2 things are connected.

wildfire risks. the board of supervisors says this money should be used to finish projects across the my campus mountains and along the russian river corridor. they say the work will range from creating buffers zones that prevent fires from spreading to grazing programs that will utilize animals like goats to eat back. some of that vegetation. >> i love watching the goats. thank you to their one more of that. now that the fields in the hills start to turn brown, but i must say, ok, by the way, i was passing workers doing the blower thing. yeah. >> and that pollen, you have to, you know, and they shut it guys all over the especially the wind job. yeah. whenever you start to see things getting or de pere pushed around i did take my medicine yet. but those pollens have been around for 8. we're looking at clear skies today. winds not a huge factor, but just enough of a cool coastal pushed to push some of that cooler area. high pressure ridge been talking about it

for so long now feels pretty and budged out there to the west. but we will be seeing the jet dropping a little bit closer down our direction. now, this is going to carry those lows that have been stuck up in the pacific northwest a little bit closer down our direction. come your memorial day weekend. and with the passing of these lows nearby comes the opportunity of cooler weather as well as a little unsettled weather now dipping into the sierra towards friday into saturday. you may see a couple of sprinkles up in the sierra, maybe even an isolated thunderstorm, slim chance of maybe a drop of water for the bay area. we are in for a cool down, though. and that is what's most notable about the shift in this trend. 60's for san francisco and the coast. not a huge difference. there. and today generally not going to be huge differences just yet across the bay, but we are beginning to see that really from yesterday's warmest of highs. san jose and campbell 80 degrees. fremont hayward all the way up the richmond in the 70's walnut creek conquered much a solano county

>> 7.19, the time and lost out as police now releasing the cause of death of 2 people who were found dead inside their home back in january. this was on the west to eat at the avenue. investigators say the 2 people identified as stephen cooper and chris cry or died of a mix of alcohol and various drugs in their systems. the santa clara county medical examiner says there is no indication of foul play or intentional death. in the east bay. police in oakley believe they've cracked a assault cold case from 2002 after a man's dna popped up in the national database when he was arrested in idaho. so it was in 2002, the police say girl was walking her dog near laurel road in oakley. when a man sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. now officers say she was able to escape and go to a nearby home for help at the time. no dna matches connected. the attacker's dna. with anybody in the national database. but in 2022, they did get an alert. and in idaho

had just been arrested and a flag was raised. oakley police went to idaho. they collected dna from that man and compared to the one they had on file and they say it was direct match. they have again now identified the suspect as eric ferguson. he used to live in contra costa county back in 2002, he's in custody up near courtland lake, coeur d'alene in idaho. but he will be brought to contra costa county later this week. >> now 7.22, people are without a home this morning because there's burned in los gatos yesterday. heavy flames were coming from the garage when the firefighters got there and those flames spread quickly to the attic. and the initial cause of the blaze they think was electrical failure in the garage. but at least nobody was hurt. i knew telehealth line is launching in san francisco for unhoused people so that they can get some recovery and treatment. it's a pilot program and it's going provide real-time connection with the doctor to help us cried medication and

space will be provided they can go to treatment for fentanyl and opioid addiction. this program was actually started to test out in march and the city found 55 people started treatment for opioid addiction at that time 173 had telehealth visits and nearly a dozen have entered residential treatment. >> well, housing project for farm workers is officially underway or at least it will be this weekend in half moon bay, the county board of supervisors voted unanimously to invest 12 million dollars in 47 homes for low-income farm workers. those homes are going to be built at stone pine road, which is about a mile from downtown half moon bay and of those 47 homes. 19 will be for families displaced by the mass shooting last year. 7 farmworkers died in that mass shooting. since then, san mateo county has been focusing on creating prop or housing for those farm workers. well, as for the mushroom farms involved in that deadly shooting, they're going to pay nearly half a

coliseum, which alameda county owns. but that deal could fall through depending on the outcome of a court case. the city says that it initially hope to work with the a's and sell the ownership of the entire site to developers. but that the city ended up working out a deal to just sell the city's share. the developers have been considering plans to build a mega project with housing restaurants and a new convention center. oakland mayor sheng thao is going to hold a news conference at 3 o'clock today to discuss the details of that deal. >> 7.32 com your local election headquarters in all 5 top candidates, including the mayor gathered for their first town. all they did. yeah. kron four's sara stinson attended and breaks down some of the key issues they addressed. >> 5 candidates vying to be san francisco's next. mayor spoke at a town hall tuesday night. this being the first time we're hearing from them in a forum. the harvey milk,
