>> right now on the kron, 4 morning news breaking news. oakland, former top cop is running for city council at the same time he's suing the city. more breaking news as
8:01 am
well. the city of oakland has reached deal to sell its half of the coliseum. will tell you what we know about that deal coming up. and jury selection is scheduled for today in david de pap case as he's now facing state charges in attacking nancy pelosi's husband. >> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news >> good morning and thanks for waking up with us on wednesday and daria and i'm james and wednesday before the memorial day holiday weekend, lots of folks have a lot of plans looking forward to and depending on the weather that could affect a lot. so let's get to that schedule of events, yeah, weather-dependent for sure. and the weather is just going to be generally cooler, especially come saturday come along with a few clouds and temperatures well down in the 60's, even for inland spots. >> today will still be warm but not as warm as yesterday. looking outside from the east bay hills, the faintest view of a little bit of that fog out there. visibility is fine.
8:02 am
if you're venturing outside, windo have shifted. now pushing that cool ocean air inland more and more and that will have an effect on temperatures today and in the coming days, 50's for current temps, berkeley at 55 petaluma at 53. a few 60's from vacaville down through brett. what later today it will be 70's to 80's for most of us similar to yesterday, but definitely not as warm and only cooler ahead, all right, john, thank you for that always pretty busy. that on 8 o'clock hour hits in terms of traffic. thankfully not tracking any hot spots on our bridges, but we are busy. 20 woman right on the bay bridge right now to make it at least that fremont street exit. 24 minutes a 80 to 101 taking the san mateo bridge. the richest ever fell bridge around 14. so that's up from 7 and the golden gate bridge. 38 minutes. 37 to the toes of snapshot of those highways. you see the red starting to form a really busy along 80, especially in emeryville. send it back to bill to the desk. thanks a lot of let's get to the breaking news. the city oakland has reached a deal.
8:03 am
>> to sell its half of the oakland coliseum. according to the san francisco chronicle, oakland will sell its share of the coliseum to the african american sports and entertainment group. that group is made up largely of black developers and investors the a's for their part. they're still in the process of completing their purchase of the other 50% stake in the coliseum, which is owned by alameda county. but that deal could fall through depending on the outcome of a case that's going in court right now. the city initially had hoped to work with the a's to sell the ownership of the entire site together to developers. but ended up working out a deal just to sell its share. the developers are considering plans to build a mega project with housing restaurant and a new convention center. oakland mayor sheng thao is holding a news conference at 3 o'clock today to talk about the details of the deal >> we have more breaking news out of oakland. we've got former oakland police chief leronne armstrong now running
8:04 am
to be on the oakland city council spokesperson confirmed to kron 4 that armstrong plans to file paperwork at oakland city hall at 10 o'clock this morning, armstrong says he plans to run primarily on a platform of public safety while also highlighting oakland's budget crisis and rising homeless encampment population. our strong started as police chief back in 2021, as we know, but he was fired in february of last year due to an investigation that accused him of mishandling to police misconduct cases. but an arbitrator later cleared him of any wrongdoing. so now he's suing the city for wrongful termination. 8 candidates, by the way, have already entered the race for that open city council seats. it's 803. and today, david de pap is going to be back in court in san francisco this time facing. >> the criminal charges filed by district attorney brooke jenkins. weve got kron four's will tran standing by the hall of justice. will. >> jenkins now it's her turn to go after david pap after federal prosecutors, they finish their case and actually
8:05 am
ended with a conviction. now in about an hour from now, they will have jury selection. this is the same case different charges. let me show you the video and they will use the same video, of course, as federal prosecutors did. this is back in october of 2022, when david de pap went to the pelosi's home in san francisco, looking for then speaker of the house, nancy pelosi. now pelosi was not home at the time, but instead her husband, paul pelosi was home. he woke up and saw david de pap. he called police officers. police officers arrived. it was at that moment at the door when state prosecutors say david de pap hit pelosi on the head with a hammer, knocking him unconscious and he woke up in a pool of blood. you have to use alleged at this point because he has not been convicted in state court so they will have to go through the trial despite already
8:06 am
being found guilty in federal court. so there's a slight nuance there. state prosecutors, their charges are attempted murder, assault as well as burglary in the federal case because nancy pelosi is a federal official. they filed federal charges against david depape, including attempted kidnapping of a federal official as well as an attacking an immediate member of a federal official. and for that he was convicted and he was sentenced to 50 years in prison state prosecutors. they will have to prove their case as well. this will begin in one hour from now with jury selection. and then the trial should last and the cost skews me last several weeks. and they think it will wrap up sometime in mid june. thank you. will. >> time now is 6 and some scary moments for some elementary school students and teachers in san bruno because the sheriff's training exercise didn't go quite as
