>> i just told myself i wasn't going to leave that little girl in that car. >> now at 11 in the right place at the right time, a father jumps into action to save a little girl's life after he sees a car on fire in the east bay. thanks for joining us here on kron for news at 11. i'm noelle bellow and i'm grant lotus an incredible story. incredible video to the man rescued that toddler just before. >> that car blew up on highway 4 in antioch. kron. 4 sarah stinson. reports. >> and driving with his 10 year-old daughter in antioch says she noticed that it rolled over car on fire. had people trapped inside instead of calling 9-1-1 they pulled over and he ended up rescuing a little girl. video shows the heroic moment when a man jumps into a car on fire and pulls out a 3 year-old girl. i just told myself >> i wasn't going to leave that little girl in that car.

>> troy white says he was driving on highway 4 in antioch with his daughter delilah tuesday afternoon when they noticed a car rolled over and on fire with people stuck inside. just scared because i knew the car catches on fire. it could white says he ran up to the car and saw a woman climbing out. so he went to the other side of the car looked inside. and what i seen was. >> it was it nightmare. you know, it was a child she was trapped in her car seat with flames continuing to grow white, worked as quickly as he could to get the girl out. it's just such a brave little girl. she wasn't crying. she was scared. whatever member saying was help me help me help me. when i got around. maybe 30 seconds later, i feel like everybody that was there was going get away from the vehicle. >> you know, i just i had to turn long. >> minutes later, the car blew up in flames. chp says the mom suffered minor injuries and went in the ambulance with her daughter who had cuts from broken glass are just glad

that family a video of the rescue is now circulating online. many are calling white a hero to which he attributes to his faith. >> that great a lot lately. and again for ways to have service you know, getting older. and i believe that he has a record. today was a last minute change of scheduling for me to even be there that chp says drugs nor alcohol are involved in this crash. i'm told that the little girl and her mom are recovering and okay. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. kron 4 news. well, all right. thank you, new at 11 antioch police are investigating an armed robbery of 2 people. >> who work for the contra costa county fair. police say the employees were depositing cash from the fair at a bank on summersville road around 2.30 monday morning when the suspects robbed them of their money and their personal belongings, a gunpoint. anyone with information is asked to call antioch police. we now

know a 19 year-old man from newark was the driver killed in yesterday's fiery crash in fremont. that crash was shortly after midnight tuesday near the intersection of fremont boulevard and thorne avenue. it was caught on surveillance video. you see some of it here. police say the car hit a tree and then caught fire. an on-duty patrol officer spotted the collision and rescued a passenger also identified as a 19 year-old man from newark. we do not have an update on his condition tonight. investigators say speeding appears to be a significant factor in the crash. >> former oakland police chief leronne armstrong is now running for city council while at the same time suing the city of oakland for wrongful termination. he's vying for a packet. rebecca kaplan seat and filed the initial paperwork with the city clerk's office this morning. armstrong facing 8 other candidates for kaplan seat. he says he believes his experience as police chief qualifies him for the job.

>> the fact that i live in oakland have chose to raise my family. oakland, children to volunteer activity into activities in the city of oakland shows that i am completely connected to this city. and i want to be a part of this city change moving forward. >> mayor sheng thao fired armstrong last year over his handling of a pair of misconduct cases. armstrong was later cleared of any wrongdoing. he has since filed a lawsuit against city for wrongful termination. oakland's could change the city's 10 year-old policy on police chases. >> the oakland police commission now has until september to recommend any changes for the council to approve. this comes after the council voted 5 to 0 yesterday. 2 move forward. the request for a change to the commission. opd is current policy allows officers to chase down people suspected of a violent crime or in cases that involve a gun. another big story we've been following

burning rubble. workers at nearby businesses describe what they heard before. a large plume of smoke blanketed the area. town of the couple. >> like right now like metal. >> manuel michelle works at a neighboring water, recycling company and says he's seen small fires that sims metal before. but out like this, the smoke is about 100 100 feet up. >> 7200 feet up in the air flames as high as 30 feet. the smoke drifted down wind into

santa clara county, setting off an advisory from officials for sensitive groups to stay indoors. >> the bay area air quality management district says they're also investigating the fire. >> this is not the first time sims metal has had a run-in with the district. the redwood city facility was issued violations in 2012 2013 and in 2018, a large fire at the richmond facility forced to shelter in place. are samples collected at the time by the air quality management district found high levels of particulates and the cancer causing chemical benzene. michelle says he's gotten used to hearing the booms from the scrap yard, but he's not used to seeing big flames. your booms, like i said all the time tomatoes sometimes, but that the nothing major probably been the biggest fire. yeah. >> a spokesperson for sims metal tells kron 4. they apologized for any disruptions. this fire may have caused. there were no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is still

golden gate. temperatures right now still in the 50's and 60's in some spots. 6 59 degrees in san jose. 57 in oakland, 63 in santa rosa. so these numbers now tomorrow is going to be warm, but not quite as warm as today and the warming trend. well, that's that's a thing of the past because we're going toward cooler temperatures. but how cool will it be over memorial day weekend? that is coming up. thank you. happy. >> a woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries tonight after she was hit by a man riding a bicycle. it happened right outside san francisco's city lights bookstore around 3 o'clock this afternoon. several police vehicles responded to the crash. a witness told kron 4 the cyclist hit an elderly woman and then took off. >> she fell down and he's yelling at her. so yelling at her white to move. you know, just in a panic state and out, walked up to the lady just to

comfort her because she started she was. you know, and work and i had yelled to somebody to call 9-1-1. got on his bike and left. >> police were able to arrest that cyclists just a few blocks away. he has not been identified. >> new at 11, the owner of 2 restaurants that have closed here in san francisco's fisherman's wharf. is now suing the city for millions of dollars. the owner of grado and parent. he knows claims that they invest in more than 2 million dollars to renovate and then maintain both restaurants. but they say they were unable to recoup their investment because of the city's covid restrictions as well as the homelessness crisis. according to the suit filed in san francisco superior court, the owner of restaurant says the city of san francisco should pay back the 2 million dollars. in addition to damages for lost revenue and harm to the reputation. take a look at

the chp is involvement in the east bay since february. the governor's office says the targeted enforcement recovered 726 stolen vehicles made 355 arrests and seized. 46 crime linked firearms. in a statement the governor says he commends the chp is work to support local law enforcement agencies statewide and the state will continue to hold perpetrators accountable for criminal activity. >> a state measure is helping to solve a really crippling staffing shortage at the vallejo police department. the numbers are shocking. the department is authorized to have 132 caps. but they currently have just 31. democratic state senator bill dodd of napa introduced a measure that would allow qualified retired solano county sheriff's deputies to work full time as patrol officers for the next 3 years. senate bill, 13 79 would allow these retired officers to skirt current state law and

exceed the 960 hour annual cap on work hours for retired officers. the bill already passed the state senate and is now heading to the assembly. >> a teen is injured, another in custody after a fight at their high school and id in a stabbing. it happened shortly before noon today at christopher high school in gilroy. police say the teens got into a fight in a locker room. one of the students pulled out a knife and stabbed the other. the injured student was taken to the hospital. >> whether time here as we get a look at the 4 zone forecast taking a live peek above san francisco. just a glorious wednesday night. little breezy in the city, but otherwise great to get out and about. yeah, it's been really nice all week long. kathy. >> absolutely. what a beautiful day. it's been nice. really quite warm yesterday, but that's a distant memory because the numbers started to come down today. yes, we are

in a cooling trend, but how cool will it be over this memorial day weekend? well, i'll tell you what's going on right now. it's a little bit cooler and also windy right along the coast. you can see the jet stream streaming down. the winds coming out of the north and going right through the golden gate at about 20 miles an hour. so at this hour, still in the 30's in west marin county temperatures today pretty close to normal from san francisco to oakland, but still a little bit above normal in places such as san jose, all the way up to santa rosa. okay, conditions and for us really tomorrow. that cooling trend continues. numbers top out at 63 degrees in san francisco. 59 right along the coastline. and we're looking at 57 in half moon bay, as you head down toward burlingame, 64 degrees. and then as you get toward woodside 65, this is not exactly warm if you head down toward the very south bay, hard to find an 80, isn't it

numbers? 79 in morgan hill, it's pretty close. 78 degrees in campbell, even in the east bay and not to the 80's least not in sonora. fremont in the low to upper to mid 70's. if you had up, though, toward vacaville, you can get up to 83 degrees. there 80 in concord hercules. 77 and you have little bit further north. we're looking at 81 degrees and yacht ville and 81 degrees. also in santa rosa with san anselmo. it's 66 degrees. we're looking at traffic conditions. a look at head shows us great conditions. in fact, 50's 60's wide along the coastline heading up to the 60's to 70's right along the bay and then the low 80's in a few spots, but really tranquil weather. that's the name of the game for us this memorial day weekend. we like a calm holiday >> reminiscent of san diego yeah. moderate as beautiful weather there like it here. we need to make that

>> burlingame high school students, artwork is getting recognized on a national level. it will be showcased at the u.s. capitol building. big stuff. kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with a high school senior about her political message. when you first look at lauren chang's artwork, you question what it means. she explained to me how it's a message about the number of mass shootings in the u.s. and her plea to lawmakers to do more to prevent every year congress holds a high school art competition. >> u.s. representative from each district picks a winner this year. representative kevin mullen pick burlingame senior lauren chang. she explain to me how a graphic art piece is also a message issue of gun violence in our country and uses. >> 646 dots to symbolize the 646 mass shootings the year 2022. each year that the 17 year-old went to school in burlingame, she watched school shootings and other us towns make the news living with the anxiety that her own school could be targeted. there's been school shootings, shootings in the public

shootings directed towards racial and in my middle school, we had a walkout. and then the next day we had a potential school shooting threat as a winner. chang's art will be hung in the u.s. capitol building for one year. she's been told it will be seen in a hallway between congressional offices and the house floor. it's only win this week. early game high school principal doctor jan fong. >> says chang has also been selected as a u.s. presidential scholar for the arts. it was great that she was selected by the white house and, >> you know, equally great that she have her work. hang in the capital. >> at with with the legislators walking by everyone else visiting the winning art displays a qr code so passersby can scan with their phones and read more about mass shootings current statistics. >> bigger than the qr code. other words, please. no more dots. and the artist hopes the message is clear to lawmakers in washington. think that. >> having it having a serve as a reminder, he can't become
