bridge around 14 rich's somerville bridge just short of 7 and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tulsa, 19 minutes. time now. 601 in the east bay. a father jumps into action and save a little girl from a burning car. and this was just before it actually went up in flames. this is on highway 4 antioch road for sarah. since it takes a look. >> and driving with his 10 year-old daughter in antioch says she noticed that a ruled over car on fire had people trapped inside instead of calling 9-1-1 they pulled over and he ended up rescuing a little girl. video shows the heroic moment when a man jumps into a car on fire and pulls out a 3 year-old girl. i just told myself say. >> i wasn't going to leave that little girl in that car. >> troy white says he was driving on highway 4 in antioch with his daughter delilah tuesday afternoon when they noticed a car rolled over and on fire with people stuck inside. just scared because i knew the car catches on fire.

a lot white says he ran up to the car and saw a woman climbing out. so he went to the other side of the car looked inside. and what i seen was. >> it was it nightmare. you know, it was a child she was trapped in her car seat with flames continuing to grow white, worked as quickly as he could to get the girl out. it's just such a brave little girl. she wasn't crying. she was scared. whatever member saying was help me help me help me. when i got around 30 seconds later, i feel like everybody that was there was going get away from the vehicle. >> you know, i just i had to turn long. >> minutes later, the car blew up in flames. chp says the mom suffered minor injuries and went in the ambulance with her daughter who had cuts from broken glass are just glad that family a video of the rescue is now circulating online. many are calling white a hero to which he attributes to his faith. >> that great a lot lately. and again for ways to have

service you know, getting older. and i believe that he has a record. today was a last minute change of scheduling for me to even be that chp says drugs nor alcohol are involved in this told that the little girl and her mom are recovering and okay. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. kron 4 news. >> now know a 19 year-old man from newark wasn't driver killed in tuesday's fiery crash in fremont. the crash happened shortly after midnight right near the intersection of fremont boulevard and thorne avenue. all caught on surveillance video. police say the car hit a tree and caught fire thus an on-duty patrol officer spotted the crash rescued passenger also identified as a 19 year-old man from newark. we'll have an update on his condition. investigators say speeding appears to be a significant factor in that crash. and yet police are now investigating an armed robbery of 2 people who work with the contra costa county fair. so police say the employees were depositing cash from of the fair at a bank around 02:30am,

this antioch? that's police say robbed them of the money and personal belongings at gunpoint. so far no arrests have been made. police are not released. any description of the robbers. time now 604 and right to it. today, 3 men accused of killing a security guard for kron 4 in oakland in 2021. >> they'll be in court later this morning for a plea hearing. they face murder and attempted murder charges. attempted robbery charges for the killing of kevin nishita. he was shot while protecting a kron for news crew in the middle of the day on a story and oakland we're going follow this hearing set to start at 09:00am. a teenager is injured and another in custody after a fight and a high school and id with a stabbing. this happened around noon christopher high school in gilroy. the teenagers got into a fight in the locker room and then one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other. the students wanted to lock down while a resource officer

intervened. and then the police got there. a parent in the area says this is really scary. >> doubt be a lot of heading before bed, i think you know, conversations we'll help them feel more comfortable about feeling safe about going to school. >> the injured student was taken to the hospital and the teenager who had the knife was booked into the santa clara county juvenile hall. >> university of california workers rallied across the state yesterday, including in san francisco. many of them are custodial workers asking for accessible housing and better wages. >> pay is too we food it up and shown up since the pandemic. we have been nonstop to do in and would not been about it at cannot afford to

living in in the communities where they and many of these members are commuting 3, 4, hours every day just to get to their jobs, leaving in their priced out of the housing market. >> according to a spokesperson from the university of california, negotiations started in january and the first tentative agreement was reached this week. spokesperson from the union representing the workers says we can expect more of these rallies soon. we'll set of the east bay because the city of walnut creek, they approved a conditional proposal for new chick-fil-a restaurant. it's causing controversy. this comes after a resident filed an appeal about the plan to put the new restaurant in the citrus marketplace shopping center. this is right on the corner of a world citrus avenue. well, the city says a resident cited various concerns, including one about potential traffic problems. the city also says they get complaints about another chick-fil-a. that's right. along north main street in cary boulevard because the drive-thru line often backs up into the street from the

parking lot. city says a new location will have drive-thru service only dine-in and takeout city council says they denied the appeal but noted some concerns from residents. the requirements to monitor and approved traffic congestion. issues should they occur? it's 607, and bad news for walmart workers. they're laying off about 560 employees from their offices in san bruno and sunnyvale. and they're asking other workers to relocate in the bay area into arkansas or new jersey. a spokesperson for walmart says that these layoffs are because of changes. 2 of the reduction of several 100 campus roles. take a look at these self checkout lines closed at the target store in every bill and the size now direct shoppers to the other cashiers. we're not sure exactly what prompted the closure, but it's been an

continuing on writing. >> she fell down and he's yelling at her. started yelling at her white to move. you know, just in a panic state and out, walked up to the lady just to comfort her because she started she was. you know, what i had, yelled to somebody to call 9-1-1. got on his bike and left. >> police arrested the cyclists a few blocks away. and it's interesting to hear that man who saw her thing saying it's a bicycle, said wise move because, you know, it's like that dance you go this way. i go that way. roy, and if you're elderly and the following can be very time 6.19, on the peninsula, a massive fire. this is metal scrapyard sent huge plumes of smoke into several cities on wednesday. kron four's dan thorn takes a look at what happened.

>> a massive fire at a scrap yard in redwood city sending thick, dark smoke into the air. fire crews rushing to sims metal near bear island wednesday afternoon as large grapple closs pick through the burning rubble. workers at nearby businesses describe what they heard before. a large plume of smoke blanketed the area. town in a couple. >> like right now like metal. >> manuel michelle works at a neighboring water, recycling company and says he's seen small fires that sims metal before, but not like this. the smoke was about 100 100 feet up. >> 7200 feet up in the air flames as high as 30 feet. the smoke drifted down wind into santa clara county, setting off an advisory from officials for sensitive groups to stay indoors. >> the bay area air quality management district says they're also investigating the fire. >> this is not the first time sims metal has had a run-in

with the district. the redwood city facility was issued violations in 2012 2013 and in 2018, a large fire at the richmond facility forced to shelter in place. are samples collected at the time by the air quality management district found high levels of particulates and the cancer causing chemical benzene. michelle says he's gotten used to hearing the booms from the scrap yard, but he's not used to seeing big flames. your booms, like i said all the time tomatoes sometimes, but tiat the nothing major probably been the biggest fire. yeah. >> a spokesperson for sims metal tells kron 4. they apologized for any disruptions. this fire may have caused. there were no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation in redwood city. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> well, happening today, a bill that aims to i generated child abuse images is set for a key vote on the assembly floor. the bill would make it

illegal to create distributed, have lifelike illicit content involving kids. member mark berman and ventura county district attorney eric nasr wrinkle teamed up to introduce the measure. they say that as evolves us our laws in order to protect people from the malicious use of ai. if the bill is passed, it would head to the state senate. well, there's a new state bill and it would like to require sites to require a verification from california users. the bill would require sites too. asked for a verification software or even a credit car government issued id. the bill would require that the bill, any data collection that would keep the user anonymous and not store their data. the bill passed the state assembly and now moves to the state senate. it's 6.22. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, a first of its kind study that looks at fentanyl culture in san francisco.

>> it's 6.24 in the east bay. the f yeah. or the federal bureau of prisons is set to go on trial next year because of their claims that it allowed an environment where guards sexually abused inmates at the women's prison in dublin. the inmates have been transferred out now. some of them are suing the prisons bureau. now claiming that the bureau failed to root out abuse. the

case goes to trial june of next year. so far, 5 prison officials have pleaded guilty already to sexually abusing inmates and 2 others had already been convicted before that. happening now, the emeryville police department is looking for this woman. she is wanted for the stabbing of a person and a chick-fil-a on monday afternoon. she walked up behind the victim and slashed at his neck. the wounded break skin, but it is considered a minor injury. police believe that she may have had some kind of razor blade. if you see her contact emeryville, police time now 6.25 and the owner of 2 restaurants that closed in san francisco fisherman's wharf. >> is suing the city for millions of dollars. the owner ronald and tear t knows claims invest in more than 2 million dollars to renovate and maintain both restaurants. but they were actually unable to recoup their investments because of the city's covid restrictions and homelessness crisis. according to the

richmond, sandra bridge 13 minutes and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 19 minutes on this thursday morning. 6.30, right now and a story that we first brought you on the kron. 4 morning news. the city of oakland has entered into a deal to sell. >> it's half of the coliseum, but the city is now require a couple of things from the people. they want to sell it to get kron four's. dan kerman with that story. >> i have faith that in partnership with the african american sports entertainment group. but the potential that we always talk about here in oakland that potential specifically here in deep east oakland that it will finally be realized redeveloping the 112 acre site that now houses the oakland coliseum. >> has been discussed for decades now. a significant move forward as the city of oakland has agreed to sell ips half of the site. >> to the african american sports and entertainment group. >> there's a new beginning. a new chapter of new everything. new sports teams, new housing, new development, new green

very beginning, folks. we have a lot more to be done. >> the oakland arena will also remain for entertainment. but the project will move forward with or without a professional sports team. but any significant movement forward, we'll rely on the oakland a's selling the other half of the coliseum to a a s e g i can say >> that we are unhealthy negotiations and they've continued and they are moving in a positive direction in our objective clearly is too be able to acquire that side as well. >> the sale price is 105 million dollars which comes at a good time as the city of oakland faces a significant budget shortfall. an ordinance authorizing the sale of oakland share of the coliseum will be introduced at the city council next week with final approval expected 3 weeks. >> if cg is able to buy the other half of the coliseum, it's possible we could see shovels in the ground as early

as 2 to 3 years from now. castleman high in oakland, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> 6.33 and oakland could change the city's 10 year-old policy on police chases. the police commission has until september to recommend any changes for the council to approve this. after the council voted 5 to 0 to forward a request for a change to the commission. the current policy allows police to chase a person who suspected of a violent crime or in cases that involve a gun. in the south bay. 3 family members are going to stand trial for the death of a 3 year-old girl in san jose. prosecutors say the mother, uncle and grandfather performed an exorcism on the girl at a church in september of 2021, the 3 say they were trying to cast out a demon from the girl. she ended up dying in the church. her body

had several injuries when firefighters found her and a coroner said that she died of a 60 asian and smothering. the 3 are going to be at the hall of justice august 14th and a date will be set for their trial. time now. 6.34 and police in san francisco are now investigating the death of a trans woman who was killed in the tenderloin. but worst any justice talk with a translator who knew the victim? i think her life was just beginning. and so for her to be murdered at the age of 25. >> is just so heartbreaking and so many ways. >> wednesday, the trans community mourning a good friend with a kind heart who was killed. san francisco police say there was a physical altercation between 2 people around 2 in the afternoon on may. 15th at a residence near jones street just north of geary officers finding a woman with stab wounds. she did not survive. family friends and colleagues identified that person as 25

year-old michelle henry, big loss for the community says honey mahogany director of the office of transgender initiatives, san francisco. so this personal for the community. you know, i'm this is one of our own and >> again, you know, there was such a huge children in the pack. some other bar with people and to do it was out the door and so many people were touched by her personally and shared their stories of who she was as a person, someone who loved fashion, someone you know, it's kind of shy, quiet, but really knew how to lift spirits. somebody who had an infectious laugh specifically because she was so connected. and so all of, you know, i i'm really saddened by the fact that, you know, we don't get to kind of one or 2002 and the impacts that you could potentially have had our community. and on the city of san francisco. >> henry was a trans woman who was growing into her true self. a vigil was held for her tuesday night at mother a spot

she used to frequent according to the medical examiner's office. michelle's cause of death is a fix yet due to neck compression is with significant. want to pull sharp force injuries. so we're seeing an increase violence. racine, increase in depression and suicidality. and, you know, us to be touched by violence. and that here in francisco ireally shocking. the san francisco police department arresting 33 year-old ramani. you ha she for the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. now, police say although an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation. >> anyone with information is asked to call sfpd is tip line reporting in the newsroom. tiffany justice kron. 4 news. >> well, kron four's now putting the focus on fentanyl. the university of california university of san francisco launching a first of its kind study into the fentanyl crisis right here in san francisco. and the key takeaway they found people are injecting

fenton all their smoking. it now, despite a yearlong crackdown on street drug dealers and users, the death toll hasn't significantly dropped. here's what we learned january to april of this year. 258 people died from an accidental overdose in the city compared to 275 people from the same time period last year. the researchers say more people are smoking because of the difficulty injecting it and a fear of overdosing. and it's also become a social scene. they observe some people sharing equipment, drugs and information. they found that fentanyl was extremely cheap as low as 10 bucks a graham. the study is the first to explore fentanyl and rising as a key contributing factor to overdose. it's 6.37, a state measure hopes to solve a crippling staffing shortage within the vallejo police department to department. >> is authorized at 132 officers. right now, though, the whole department has 31 cops. democratic state senator bill dodd of napa introduced a measure to allow qualified

retired solano county sheriff's deputies to work up to full time as patrol officers for the next 3 years. this senate bill would allow retired officers skirt the current state law and exceed the 960 our annual cap on the work hours allowed for retired officers. the bill has passed. the state senate. now it heads to the assembly. >> kron local election headquarters and former oakland police chief leronne armstrong is running for city council. now and at the same time suing oakland for wrongful termination. he is vying for rebecca kaplan seat and he filed the initial paperwork with the city clerk's office. there is yesterday morning getting that done. armstrong faces 8 other candidates running for kaplan's seat. he says that his experience as police chief qualifies him for the job. >> the fact that i live in oakland have chose to raise my family. oakland children to
