father jumps into action to save a little girl from a burning car. and this was just before it went up in flames. it on highway 4 out a nanny, a kron 4. sarah stinson has more. >> and driving with his 10 year-old daughter in antioch says she noticed that a ruled over car on fire had people trapped inside instead of calling 9-1-1 they pulled over and he ended up rescuing a little girl. video shows the heroic moment when a man jumps into a car on fire and pulls out a 3 year-old girl. i just told myself say. >> i wasn't going to leave that little girl in that car. >> troy white says he was driving on highway 4 in antioch with his daughter delilah tuesday afternoon when they noticed a car rolled over and on fire with people stuck inside. just scared because i knew the car catches on white says he ran up to the car and saw a woman climbing out. so he went to the other side of the car. looked inside. and what i seen was >> it was it was was a nightmare. you know, it was a

child. she was trapped in her car seat with flames continuing to grow. white, worked as quickly as he could to get the girl out. it's just such a brave little girl. she wasn't crying. she was scared. whatever member saying was help me help me help me. when i got around. maybe 30 seconds later, i feel like everybody that was there was going get away from the vehicle. >> you know, i just i had to turn >> minutes later, the car blew up in flames. chp says the mom suffered minor injuries and went in the ambulance with her daughter who had cuts from broken glass. i'm just glad that family a video of the rescue is now circulating online. many are calling white a hero to which he attributes to his faith. >> that great a lot lately and for ways to have service you know, getting older. and i believe that he has a record. today was a last minute change of scheduling for me be there that chp says drugs nor alcohol are involved in this

told that the little girl and her mom are recovering and okay. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in tha newsroom. kron 4 news. >> well, in the east bay, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by car this morning. this is on westbound 5.80, in richmond, california. highway patrol says it happened on the highway off-ramp. they say the lanes are closed for a few hours. they're now back open. we don't have any information about the crash just yet. we now know that that 19 year-old man from newark was a driver killed in tuesday's fiery crash in fremont. you might remember michael thomas was on the story. the crash happened shortly after midnight near the intersection of fremont boulevard avenue. the incident all caught on surveillance video. police say the car hit a tree and caught fire. the saint patrol officer spotted the car, rescued a passenger also identified as 19 year-old man from newark. we don't have any updates on his condition. investigators say speeding appears to be a factor in that crash. it's 804, an antioch police are investigating an

armed robbery. >> 2 people who work with the contra costa county fair. we're at the bank deposit in cash 02:30am, in the morning on monday in antioch and thieves took their money and personal belongings at gunpoint. no arrests made so far and no description of the robbers. today, the 3 men accused of killing our kron. 4 security guard in oakland in 2021. are due in court for a plea hearing. they face murder and attempted robbery charges for the killing of kevin nishita. he was shot while protecting a kron for news crew. the hearing starts at 09:00am. a teenager is injured and another in custody after a fight at a high school and id with a stabbing. it happened around noon yesterday in the locker room at christopher high school in gilroy. first, it was a fight and then one of the students pulled out a knife, stabbed the other student. everybody went into lockdown while a resource officer intervene and then the police got there apparently

members are commuting 3, 4, hours every day just to get to their jobs, leaving in their priced out of the housing market. >> well, according to a spokesperson from the university of california, negotiations started in january and the first tentative agreement was reached this week. spokesperson from the union representing the workers says we can expect more of these rallies soon. time 806. and let's head to the east bay because the city of walnut creek approved a conditional proposal for a new chick-fil-a restaurant. it's caused some controversy, though. this comes after a resident filed an appeal about the plan to put the new restaurant in the citrus marketplace shopping center. this is around the corner world and citrus avenue cities is the resident cited various concerns, including what about potential traffic problems that that restaurant could potentially create? the city says they get complaints about another chick-fil-a. that is right along north main street in geary boulevard because the drive-thru line

often backs up into the street from the parking lot. the city says the new location won't have drive-thru service only dine-in and take-out. the city council says they denied that appeal. that they noted concerns from residents and a doctor requirements to monitor and improve traffic and congestion issues. should they happen? walmarts are well, our that layoffs are coming to walmart. 560 workers. >> are going to be laid off from their offices in san bruno and sunnyvale. and they're also asking other employees relocate around the bay area, arkansas or new jersey. a walmart spokesperson. says this reduce the campus roles and that's why they're doing it. >> take a look at this. the self checkout lines are closed at this target in emeryville, signs directing shoppers over the cashiers. instead, we don't know exactly what prompted this closure, but we do know that it's an inconvenience for some. >> it's harder for me with 2 toddlers under 5.

light sprinkles this weekend will start to see some increasing cloud cover late tomorrow and especially into saturday, partly cloudy. and just generally cooler than average day for us. as i mentioned, the bay-area kind of sitting out rainfall, potential. but if you are heading to the sierra this weekend, you're going to have great weather. but do watch for that chance of a few light showers towards the middle of the weekend. as for today, daytime highs in the 60's for sf 50's and 60's at the coastline and then some 60's to 70's elsewhere. burlingame, at 68 redwood city and san carlos at 71 south bay. temperatures in the mid to upper 70's today. well, the east bay holding on to those low 70's from fremont hayward clear through oakland to richmond, a few low 80's and conquered as well as pittsburgh up to vacaville. not a lot of us barely hanging on to the 80's at this point tomorrow through sunday. nobody's in the 80's, in fact, will be struggling to make the low 70's inland tomorrow. and by saturday, it's 60's even for inland areas. so quite the

cool memorial day weekend. all right, john, thank you for that. check on your morning commute. they've bridge right now at 28 minutes of traffic is getting busy there. and along san mateo bridge. >> 26, 80 to 101, which is a vital 15 minutes and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 36 minute right? >> it's 8.16, and a woman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a bicyclist hit her right outside of san francisco city lights bookstore. it was about 3 in the afternoon yesterday and a witness tells kron 4 that he saw what happened and it was an elderly woman in a bicyclist ended up leaving. >> she fell down and he's yelling at her, started yelling at her white to move. you know, just in a panic state and out, walked up to the lady just to comfort her because she started she was. you know, what i had, yelled to somebody to call 9-1-1. got

on his bike and left. >> the cyclists ended up being or stop a few blocks away. we're not if they're deciding at fault or not. but the elderly woman we know is in the hospital. a family is displaced because of a fire that broke out and their home in fremont. and we have video from the fremont fire department of all the smoke. >> coming from this house on driscoll road enjoys avenue. and there we get a little closer. you can see what they were dealing with. they got knocked down and under control within about 20 minutes. but the damage was done a lot of the interior is destroyed, but at least everybody is okay. the family is 2 adults and 4 children. all right. time now 8.17, on the peninsula. massive fire. >> the set of metal scrapyard. it's huge plumes of smoke into several bay area. cities was to take a closer look now with kron 4 dan thorn. >> a massive fire at a scrap yard in redwood city sending

thick, dark smoke into the air. fire crews rushing to sims metal near bear island wednesday afternoon as large grapple closs pick through the burning rubble. workers at nearby businesses describe what they heard before. a large plume of smoke blanketed the area. found couple. >> like right now like metal. >> manuel michelle works at a neighboring water, recycling company and says he's seen small fires that sims metal before, but not like this. the smoke was about 100 100 feet up. >> just 7200 feet up in the air flames as high as 30 feet. the smoke drifted down wind into santa clara county, setting off an advisory from officials for sensitive groups to stay indoors the bay area. air quality management district says they're also investigating the fire. >> this is not the first time sims metal has had a run-in with the district. the redwood city facility was issued violations in 2012 2013 and in

2018, a large fire at the richmond facility forced to shelter in place. samples collected at the time by the air quality management district found high levels of particulates and the cancer causing chemical benzene. michelle says he's gotten used to hearing the booms from the scrap yard, but he's not used to seeing big flames. your booms, like i said all the time sometimes, but that the nothing major probably been the biggest fire scene. >> a spokesperson for sims metal tells kron 4. they apologized for any disruptions. this fire may have caused. there were no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation in redwood city. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> happening now, the emeryville police department, they're looking for this woman on your screen who allegedly stabbed somebody. it happened at a chick-fil-a monday afternoon. police say the woman walked up behind the victim and slashed at his neck. the woman broke the

man's skin but was considered minor. police believe she might be using some sort of razor blade or similar weapon. and you see the person your screen, please contact in. louisville police. of 2 restaurants that have closed in san francisco's fisherman's wharf are suing the city for millions of dollars, owner of grotto and current. he knows claims they invested more than 2 million dollars to renovate and maintain both restaurants. they were unable to recoup their investments because so these covid restrictions and the homelessness crisis, according to the lawsuit filed san francisco superior court, the owner of the restaurant says the city of san francisco should actually pay back the 2 million dollars in addition to damages for lost revenue at harm to their reputations. it's 8.20, and today a bill that aims to address ai-generated child abuse images. >> is set for a vote on the assembly. full floor. this bill would make it illegal to create distribute and have life like illicit content

involving children, assembly member mark berman in ventura county district attorney eric nassar. teamed up to introduce this bill. they say that as ai evolves. so must our laws to protect people from malicious use of ai if it passes. this man has to the state senate. and there's a new state bill aimed at sites requiring age verification for california users. it would obligate sites to add that to their software or request a kit credit card or a government. i d it as say that this. the supporters of the bill say data collection would keep the user's anonymous and they wouldn't store the data. the bill passed. the state now goes to the state sen. coming up on the kron. morning news. the department of justice just filed a major lawsuit against ticketmaster moments ago. details on the accusations. ticketmaster faces when we get back. it's a 24 and a nice

pay. the federal bureau of prisons is being brought to trial over claims that the bureau allowed an environment where guards were able to sexually abuse inmates at the women's prison in dublin. as you know, that prison has been shut down and all the inmates have been transferred out. but some of them are suing the bureau because they say the agency failed to protect them and root out the abuse that was going on. this case goes to trial by june of next year has so far 5 prison officials have pleaded guilty to sexually abusing inmates and 2 others have been convicted.

well, new this morning, the doj, they have filed an antitrust lawsuit against ticketmaster and parent company live nation this morning. the doj accuses the companies are wanting any legal monopoly over live events driving up the prices for fans. it was found in new york earlier this morning. now the suit seeks to break up the monopoly, they say is squeezing out smaller promoters, hurting artists. live nation has denied that cages in practices that violate antitrust laws. the industry first came under scrutiny. you might remember back in 2022. after ticketmaster's glitches blocked millions of people from purchasing tickets to taylor swift's era's tour. t-mobile, raising prices on some of their older mobile plans. customers are already starting to see the higher cost on next month's bill. so customers and all the plans are going to see an increase $2 or $5 per plant. customers are accident notification about the changes just

all right, that unfortunately we've got an accident on the bay bridge. looks like it's new at fremont street access. so, you know, there's an accident there. >> we're seeing backup. 35 minutes at 8.30, a not the best things specially at the peak of the commute. mean, if you are going to be leaving the house right now, sure how long this accident will be there. maybe take bart. you also have the other options for you like the other bridges, but they're busy too. san mateo bridge about 25 minutes. our richmond center fell bridge 15 minutes tear and the golden gate bridge around. 35 minutes again, a little busy on the bay bridge because of that keep a close eye. but, you know, things change 15 minutes, 8.30, right now and more arrests were stolen. cars are covered and more illegal weapons seized governor's office releasing new numbers from its sting operation. this is in the east bank on forrest. theresa has details. this is one of more than several dozen guns tied to criminal activity taken off the streets in the last 3 months.

>> it is all part of a continuous crime prevention operation launched in oakland and other parts of the east bay. back in february, the partnership was initiated by governor newsom. in a statement, quote, the governor said i commend the work of the chp to support local law enforcement efforts statewide, including in the east bay to ensure the safety of our communities. the state will continue to hold perpetrators accountable for criminal activity. here's a closer look at the numbers being released since february. the governor's office says that the targeted enforcement has recovered 726 stolen vehicles may 355 arrests and seized 46 crime late firearms. >> ever every we've been out in the 10th and the city of oakland, we've been working with the law enforcement, including a hope and a police department. and we've been price target vehicle that as well as organized retail crime and other violent crimes. >> this is chp spokesperson

a regular investigation where we have no cameras. the bill. >> as for how long the chp will be deployed to aid in crime reduction efforts that has not been addressed. >> theresa kron, 4 news. it's a 33 clinton is looking at changing its policy it's been around for 10 years now. this chase policy in there re doing it. the police commission has until september to recommend to the council what they should do in the council already voted to for recommendations and request to the commission. the current police policy is that they can chase those who are suspected of violent crimes or in cases that involve a gun. in the south bay. 3 family members will stand trial for the death of a 3 year-old girl in san jose. prosecutors say that the mother, uncle and grandfather performed an exorcism on the child at a church in september of 2021. and she ended up dying. they told investigators they were trying to cast a demon from the child. the
