on the kron. 4 morning news. a stabbing at a gilroy high school in the middle of the day. >> i just told myself say i wasn't going to leave that little girl in car. >> and is in the right place at the right time and saves a little girl from this burning car. and a lot of people around the bay are already off on their memorial day weekend. we'll have a live report from the airport.

>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at and weather at the airport or just hitting the roads this memorial day. we've got a hot. yeah. unfortunately, the bay bridge, the busiest bridge of the morning. >> and we got some good news for you. just moments ago. they got that accident cleared off of the bay bridge. however, the backup is still an issue and it's going to be a thing for some time. this accident was actually at that fremont street exit. we know that 2 lanes were blocked for i would say maybe bell 30 45 minutes. so traffic gradually start to build at the toll plaza and you can see is people traveling into the tunnel there things are going very slow this morning. so i would say, give yourself just a little extra time. look at that. 15 minutes may's to that 3 months to actually give yourself time. but that number start to drop down just a little bit before you start to venture back onto the bridge. but we do know the lanes are clear, but not clear because

of those residual delays. okay. so let's look at the roundabout san mateo bridge about 20 minutes. if you want to hop on that, maybe you want to take the richmond. sandra fell bridge. maybe you even want to take the golden gate bridge around. 32 minute ride of hoping maybe in the next 40 minutes might see much lower drive times at the bay bridge. my gosh. oh, yeah. and we're going to see this traffic and and flow as it's a little and regular because some people are going to work. but others are taking off on their vacation alreaty. we want to check in with see what the weather is going to be like from now through you know, things are going to be busy in a whole different way. on a holiday weekend. people heading to the airports may be heading up to tahoe on 80. >> all the places to get away. and if you just want to stay here locally, you don't have to worry about traffic. nor look at this any sort of bad weather. it is going to be beautiful this weekend. golden gate bridge looking crystal clear this morning. now we are seeing visibility holding just fine. so if you are flying out anywhere, visibility has been no issue. shouldn't have any weather-related delays. one catch today is winds do pick

up this afternoon and today is going to be a breezy one, especially later on right now. our temperatures continue to climb san mateo at 62 fremont at 55 brentwood. one of our first spots in the low 70's later on. we'll get up into those low 80's for some inland areas. most of us in the 70's, though, tomorrow and saturday looking even cooler yet. i'll talk those days in your full forecast all right. thanks a lot, john 902, right now. and in the east bay, a father jumps into action and saves a little girl from a burning just miraculous video. this was >> just before the car went up in flames on the highway for out a nanny kron 4. sarah stinson has details. >> and driving with his 10 year-old daughter in antioch says she noticed that it rolled over car on fire. had people trapped inside instead of calling 9-1-1 they pulled over and he ended up rescuing a little girl. video shows the heroic moment when a man jumps into a car on fire and pulls out a 3 year-old girl. i just

told myself say. >> i wasn't going to leave that little girl in that car. >> troy white says he was driving on highway 4 in antioch with his daughter delilah tuesday afternoon when they noticed a car rolled over and on fire with people stuck inside. just scared because i knew the car catches on fire. a white says he ran up to the car and saw a woman climbing out. so he went to the other side of the car look inside. what i seen was. >> it was it nightmare. you know, it was a child. she was trapped in her car seat with flames, continuing to grow. white, worked as quickly as he could to get the girl out. it's just such a brave little girl. she wasn't crying. she was scared. whatever member saying was help me help me help me. when i got around 30 seconds later, i feel like everybody that was there was going get away from the vehicle. >> you know, i just i had to turn >> minutes later, the car blew up in flames. chp says the mom suffered minor injuries and went in the ambulance with her

daughter who had cuts from broken glass are just glad that that the family a video of the rescue is now circulating online. many are calling white a hero to which he attributes to his faith. >> that great a lot lately and again for ways to have service you know, getting older. and i believe that he has a record. today was a last minute change of scheduling for me to even be there that chp says drugs nor alcohol are involved in this told that the little girl and her mom are recovering and okay. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. kron 4 news. >> well, in the east bay, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by car this morning. this is on westbound 5.80, in richmond, california. highway patrol says it happened on the harbor. lee off-ramp, the say the lanes are closed for a couple hours there now fully open. we don't have additional information about that crash. we now know that a 19 year-old man from newark was a driver killed in tuesday's fiery crash in fremont. it happened

shortly after midnight right near the intersection of fremont boulevard thorn the incident caught on surveillance video. police say the car hit a tree caught on fire and they say and onto the patrol officer spotted the crash and rescued passenger also identified as a 19 year-old man from newark. have any update on his condition. investigators say speeding appears to be a significant factor in this crash. >> antioch police are investigating an armed robbery of 2 people who work with the contra costa county. fair. it was 02:30am in the morning on monday and they were making a deposit. the cash deposit win. couple of fees came up and that had a gun. they robbed them of their personal belongings and all that cash in the got away. we don't have a description right now. happening today, 3 men accused of killing our kron 4 security guard in oakland in 2021. they are due in court for a plea hearing. they face murder and attempted robbery charges for the killing of kevin nishita. he was shot while protecting a

kron for news crew. the hearing just got underway at 9 o'clock this morning. one teen is injured and another in custody after a fight at their high school ended with a stabbing. the fight broke out in the locker room of christopher high school in gilroy around noon. the teen started fighting and one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other. all of the students had to go into lockdown while a resource officer intervened. and then the police got there apparently lives in the area says this is concerning. >> doubt be a lot of heading before bed, i think you know, conversations we'll help them feel more comfortable about feeling safe about going to school. >> the injured teenagers in the hospital and the other one has been booked into the santa clara county juvenile hall.

well, the university of california workers rallying across the state yesterday, including in san francisco. >> many of them are custodial workers and they're asking for accessible housing and better wages. >> hi and pay is too we food it up and shown up since the pandemic. we have been nonstop to do in and it would not been about it at cannot afford to living in in the communities where they many of these members are commuting 3, 4, hours every day just to get to their jobs, leaving in their priced out of the housing market. >> according to a spokesperson from the university of california, negotiations started in january, the first tentative agreement was reached this week. spokesperson from the union representing the workers says we can expect more of these rallies soon. and the east bay, the city of walnut creek, approved a conditional proposal for a new chick-fil-a restaurant. it is causing some controversy. the this comes after a resident found an appeal about the plan, but the

new restaurant in the citrus marketplace shopping center. this is round the corner of oak grove and citrus avenue. well, city says the residents side of various concerns, including one of the potential traffic problems or restaurant will create. so he says they get complaints about another chick-fil-a that it's right along north main street in gary boulevard because drive to lot often backs up into the street from the parking lot. the city says the new location will have drive-thru service only dine-in or takeout city council says they denied that appeal no to concerns from residents. doctor requirements to monitor and improve trash traffic and congestion issues. should they happen? >> walmart is laying off more than 560 workers from their offices in san bruno and sunnyvale. and they're asking other employees to relocate in the bay area, arkansas or new jersey. a spokesperson for walmart says that these layoffs are because of a reduction of several 100 campus roles. and then

have residual delays is still pretty big. back up the story. fremont street exit. there was an accident there. 2 lanes blocked and they have that open. but now drive times are still about 40 minutes. they were all over an hour. sally's were just a little under an hour, but still i would wait it out as drive times drop case of 39 minutes on the bay bridge. maybe want to go around. want to take the san mateo bridge. only going to about 18 minutes there. you always could take bart. that's another option for you. in the richmond, sandra fell bridge 13 while the golden gate bridge put you at about 30 minutes. so again, earlier accident on the bay bridge. and now that that's clear, we've got residual backup in his bag. okay. i mean, i think that the traffic on and off is going to be really bad today tomorrow probably everybody is where they need to be. john, by the i i do think today's going to be a big one for travelers for sure. and if you are going to the airport skies are crystal clear this morning. so should have any weather-related delays here locally. quite our looks great right now at the blue skies overhead.

>> and james isn't here today, but you kinda is. he snapped a shot of us for us this morning of the sunrise walnut creek. >> was a gorgeous morning earlier as well. now skies are going to stay clear throughout the day today going to be abundantly sunny, one. we do have a low pressure area that's going to clip the region just to the north and east of us. and although not resulting in any rainfall chances here in the bay area, we will see a slim chance of a sprinkle or 2 towards saturday up in the sierra nevada. you can see that cloud cover increases into the weekend and by saturday, a mostly to partly cloudy day may see a sprinkle or 2 at the coastline. but most of that shower potential will be up near the oregon border in near the nevada border out into the sierras. so don't cancel those plans. it's still going to be a gorgeous weekend up there. just anticipate saturday being especially cool, little cloud and maybe a sprinkle temperatures in the 60's to 50's at the coastline today. well, 60's to 70's for most of the rest of us and only a couple of spots barely hanging on to 80 degrees. so very much

wants to require sites to require age verification from california users, the bill would require sites or require age verification software or even a credit card or government-issued id. the bill would require the bill. what any data collected would keep the users anonymous and not store their data. i've passed the state assembly and now msves into the state senate. it's 9 26 and in the east bay, you have an opportunity to get some money back for purchasing an e-bike contra. costa county is providing 150 to $300 cash

rebates on any electric bike that you bought in the last 6 months. you have to have proof of purchase and show that you are a contra costa county resident over the age of 18 and you get this 150 bucks, no matter the income and then you can get up to $300 depending on if you qualify, this is all to promote. you know, environmental way that e-bikes work. and then also they zip you around town pretty easily as people fire up their grills for a memorial day cookout. health experts have some reminders on how to feast safely. they say it's critical. you want to keep your raw meat away from other foods such as your fruits and veggies and to avoid the transfer of harmful bacteria between foods recommend use separate cutting board for each of them. really try your best to prevent the juices from the meat tripping and mixing with other foods may wash your hands frequently and do not let cook food set out for more than an hour. hot day. my kids sick. coming the next hour we're talking about what's next for oakland coliseum. after that big

it is crowded out there on the roads and i don't think it's going to work. i think a lot. it's a split thing. a lot of people are getting away holiday and some people are calling for a already. we're seeing the congestion out there and issues on the roads like on the bay bridge. we've been following a traffic accident at the top of a saint last hour. we had an accident. fremont street exit is blocking 2 lanes and drive times are over an hour. good news right now. they cleared that off of the highway. and so we're keeping watch right now. drive times start to slowly dipped down. we've got

move forward as the city of oakland has agreed to sell its half of the site. >> to the african american sports and entertainment group. >> there's a new beginning. a new chapter of new everything. new sports teams, new housing, new development, new green space knew everything. so that's what this is all about. originally focus just on cg is now focused on what's best for the community. >> and the mayor says that's what will make all the difference. >> it takes a partner that understand that there is a return on investment that doesn't necessarily show up on that balance sheet. that is just not all about the money, but it's about the community and making sure that they're thriving. when this is built, that it's built for the community so that they can realize their family trees. wednesday's news conference was held that castleman high school. >> where students have been working on designs for the coliseum site. well, nothing has been finalized. the mayor says several things will be required.

>> the future of the coliseum complex as envisioned would include the development of thousands of much needed new affordable units and market rate housing increased curating outdoor green space commercial and retail spaces. of course, all of this done in community. this is just the very beginning, folks. we have a lot more to be done. >> the oakland arena will also remain for entertainment. but the project will move forward with or without a professional sports team. but any significant movement forward, we'll rely on the oakland a's selling the other half of the coliseum to a a s e g i can say >> that we are unhealthy negotiations and they've continued and they are moving in a positive direction in our objective clearly is too be able to acquire that side as well. >> the sale price is 105 million dollars which comes at a good time as the city of oakland faces a significant budget shortfall.

an ordinance authorizing the sale of oakland share of the coliseum will be introduced at the city council next week with final approval expected 3 weeks. >> the cg is able to buy the other half of the coliseum. it's possible weecould see shovels in the ground as early as 2 to 3 years from now. castleman high in oakland, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> its 9.34 and oakland could be changing their 10 year-old policy on police chases. the oakland police commission has until september to recommend changes to the council to approve. and the council has already voted to for their question. the change to the commission, the current policy is that officers can chase people who are suspected of violent crimes or that involved a gun. in the south bay. 3 family members will stand trial for the death of a three-year-old girl in san jose. police and prosecutors say that the mother, uncle and grandfather performed an exorcism on the little girl at a church in 2021. they told

the police that they were trying to perform a an exorcism and cast a demon from the girl. she ended up dying of the and smothering. times on. i-35 and police in san francisco are investigating the death of a trans woman. >> who was killed in the tenderloin kron four's tiffany justice. talk with a translator who knew the victim? >> i think her life was just beginning. and so for her to be murdered at the age 25 is just so heartbreaking and so many ways. >> wednesday, the trans community ing a good friend with a kind heart who was killed. san francisco police say the was a physical altercation between 2 people around 2 in the afternoon on may. 15th at a residence near jones street just north of geary officers finding a woman with stab wounds. she did not survive. family friends and colleagues identified that person as 25 year-old michelle henry, big loss for the community says

honey mahogany director of the office of transgender initiatives, san francisco. so this personal for the community. you know, i'm this is one of our own and >> again, you know, there was such a huge children, the pack, some other bar with people and to go it was out the door and so many people were touched by her personally and shared their stories of who she was as a person, someone who loved fashion, someone you know, it's kind of shy, quiet, but really knew how to lift spirits. somebody who had an infectious laugh specifically because she was so connected. and so all of you know, i i'm i'm really saddened by the fact that, you know, we don't get to see kind of one or 2002 and the impacts that you could potentially have had our community. and on the city of san francisco. >> henry was a trans woman who was growing into her true self. a vigil was held for her tuesday night at mother a spot she used to frequent according to the medical examiner's
