records. according to triple a 38.0. 4 million people will travel by car this weekend possibly making this the busiest memorial day for vehicle trips since record keeping began at the turn of the century. >> here in the bay area, triple a says that the best times to drive will be early in the morning or after 07:00pm with the worst time being around 11:00am on friday when traffic could be about 50% heavier than normal. they also say that 80 between san francisco and napa will see the heaviest traffic at the airports. 3 and a half million people will fly this holiday weekend nationwide. here at sfo. the airport is expecting 755,000 travelers through monday. that's about an 8% increase over last year. oakland international is expecting 130,000 passengers with airports expected to be busy. it's recommended that travelers arrive 2 hours before their flight for domestic trips and 3 hours early for international flights. it's also a good idea to check ahead with your

concerned, maybe a degree or 2 cooler inland. but their storm tracker 4 looking lovely. and as we zoom out, you can southern california has been hanging out to the clouds a little bit longer. this morning, we had some of those clouds hang out in los angeles in particular, but that should start to dissipate as we work our way into the afternoon temperatures. we're at 61 in downtown san francisco. some nice 70's already popping up in santa rosa. one of our warmest spots again yesterday there. 76 degrees now. so are conquered in antioch. 72 in san jose and some nice 60's right now around the bay half moon bay. certainly a little cooler out there. also getting that northwest flow still going. but we'll start to see a turn to more of an onshore direction where we start to see cooler moister air brought in. and in fact, tonight, later this evening, we'll even start to see a few clouds roll. and so not quite as clear crystal, clear night as we see in the last couple. here are the highs today looking at route 66 in san francisco, those low 80's inland, some nice 60's 70's around the bay. i'll be back in a bit. we'll take a look at that 7 day forecast. all right. sounds great. thank you.

>> tragedy striking in san jose after a crash led to an emergency c section. it happen. may 15th on farrington drive in south white road. a pregnant woman was trying to make a left turn and she hit an oncoming suv. that woman was rushed to the hospil d had an emergency surgery. the infant was ritical condition for 4 days before dying. this marks san jose's 18th traffic deaths this year. in the east bay, a father jumping into action to save a little girl from a burning car just moments before it went up in flames on highway 4 in antioch kron. 4 sarah stinson has the heroic details. >> video shows the heroic moment when a man jumps into a car on fire and pulls out a 3 year-old girl. i just told myself say. >> i wasn't going to leave that little girl in that car. >> troy white says he was driving on highway 4 in antioch with his daughter delilah tuesday afternoon when they noticed a car rolled over and on fire with people stuck

inside. just scared because i knew the car catches on fire. a lot white says he ran up to the car and saw a woman climbing out. so he went to the other side of the car look inside. what i seen was. >> it was it nightmare. you know, it was a child she was trapped in her car seat with flames continuing to grow white, worked as quickly as he could to get the girl out. it's just such a brave little girl. she wasn't crying. she was scared. whatever member saying was help me help me help me. when i got around 30 seconds later, i feel like everybody that was there was going get away from the vehicle. >> you know, i just i had to turn >> minutes later, the car blew up in flames. chp says the mom suffered minor injuries and went in the ambulance with her daughter who had cuts from broken glass are just glad that family a video of the rescue is now circulating online. many are calling white a hero to which he attributes to his faith. >> that great a lot lately.

and again for ways to have service you know, getting older. and i believe that he has a record. today was a last minute change of scheduling for me to even be that time. >> that was sarah stinson reporting for us. chp says neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the crash. the mom and daughter are recovering. an armed robber got away with nearly $90,000 after holding up to employees of the contra costa county. fair. and police say the workers were depositing cash from the fair at the bmo bank on summersville road just south of highway 4 before 2.30, monday morning. when thieves robbed them at gunpoint. police say $87,750 was stolen. no one has been arrested yet. but anyone with information is asked to please call any off police. oakland mayor sheng thao is proposing adjustments to the city's budget amid a projected 117 million dollars shortfall. she says the changes will prioritize public safety, economic development

and community services. they are telling dressing the mid cycle budget changes at city hall earlier today. her first priority is funding crime prevention cleanup services. she says now this includes the ceasefire strategy fully-staffed 9-1-1, dispatch oakland's fresh pilot program. tell us as the funding is vital to maintain progress during financial challenges. >> its cycle. budget adjustment. it's physically responsible. it's disappointing and maintains our focus on the issues that matter most to open doors over the coming weeks. my administration will engage in discussions with the city council about the mid cycle budget amendments. and i urge the city council to be thoughtful, to be disciplined, to be collaborative and solutions oriented as we move forward. >> the plan also includes reducing costs. the mayor says and one one way that the mayor is doing that is by implementing a targeted hiring freeze of general purpose fund positions. kron 4 continues to

put the focus on fentanyl. the university of san francisco launched a first of its kind study into the fentanyl crisis in san francisco. and the key take away they found is that people aren't injecting the drug. they are smoking. it despite a yearlong city and state crackdown on street drug dealers and users, the death toll has not significantly dropped. the university found from january to april of this year, 258 people died from an accidental overdose in the city compared to 275 people during the same time period last year. the researchers say more people are smoking fentanyl because of difficulty injecting it in a fear of overdosing. researchers also found fentanyl was extremely cheap to obtain as low as 10 bucks 10 bucks a gram. and turning to national news. now the justice department has filed a sweeping antitrust lawsuit against ticketmaster and parent company live nation entertainment accusing them of running an illegal monopoly over live events and driving up prices for fans. the

lawsuit was brought with 30 state and district attorneys generals, including california attorney general rob bonta, washington correspondent trevor shirley reports. >> the sweeping lawsuit alleges a monopoly by ticketmaster and its parent company. live nation which doj officials say drives up ticket prices for fans and kills competition. that lawsuit was filed thursday. it's being brought with 30 state and district attorneys. general who say the monopoly squeezes out smaller concert promoters and hurts artists. attorney general merrick garland says live nation's monopoly costs fans more in fees and lee's venues with few other choices for ticket sales. the doj also alleges live nation uses unfair practices to keep venues locked into long-term exclusive contracts with ticketmaster live nation denies it engages in unfair or illegal practices saying this lawsuit will fail in court. ticketmaster is the world's largest ticket seller handling around 70% of all u.s. concert

♪ (ominous music) ♪ it's ok. >> the city of oakland has entered an agreement to sell their half of the coliseum site. kron four's dan kerman reports. >> i have faith that in partnership with the african american sports entertainment group. but the potential that we always talk about here in oakland that potential specifically here in deep east oakland that it will finally be realized redeveloping the 112 acre site that now houses the oakland coliseum. >> has been discussed for decades now. a significant move forward as the city of oakland has agreed to sell its half of the site. >> to the african american sports and entertainment

group. >> there's a new beginning. a new chapter of new everything. new sports teams, new housing, new development, new green space knew everything. so that's what this is all about. originally focus just on sports. >> cg is now focused on what's best for the community. and the mayor says that's what will make all the difference. >> it takes a partner that understand that there is a return on investment that doesn't necessarily show up on that balance sheet. that is just not all about the money, but it's about the community and making sure that they're thriving. when this is built, that it's built for the community so that they can realize their family trees. wednesday's news conference was held that castleman high school. >> where students have been working on designs for the coliseum site. well, nothing has been finalized. the mayor says several things will be required. >> the future of the coliseum complex as envisioned would include the development of thousands of much needed new affordable units and market rate housing increased

curating outdoor green space commercial and retail spaces. of course, all of this done in community. this is just the very beginning, folks. we have a lot more to be done. >> the oakland arena will also remain for entertainment. but the project will move forward with or without a professional sports team. but any significant movement forward, we'll rely on the oakland a's selling the other half of the coliseum to a a s e g i can say >> that we are and hopefully negotiations and they've continued and they are moving in a positive direction. and our objective clearly is too be able to acquire that side as well. >> the sale price is 105 million dollars which comes at a good time as the city of oakland faces a significant budget shortfall. an ordinance authorizing the sale of oakland share of the coliseum will be introduced at the city council next week with final approval expected 3

the past couple days because i've been seeing out of my window and really enjoying have beautiful to bed. this will be the flower moon tonight, the full moon. and if you didn't know these started being named by the farmers almanac back in the 1930's and this one was named flower moon because it was cited by the native american people. as the time went flowers spriig forth across north america and abundance make sense, right? it's that time of year for that. so will you be able to see it tonight? i think you're going to get a good shot. the sun goes down at about 08:19pm, tonight. so this is about 8.15, and you can see we do have a few clouds are going to start rolling in tonight. so this is the beginning of our weather pattern changing. so it will be better early in the evening. then later, especially if you're in part to the peninsula. south bay and east bay can see the north bay might a little bit better. but as wake up tomorrow, certainly going to be a different feel that we've had the past few days that everything to do with the fact that high pressure has been in control of that low pressure is going to be dropping. and when it does that, you see those isobars kind of dropped to the south, bringing in more of the greens. those are the cooler temperatures that we're

health this afternoon. a new study shows the number of kids diagnosed with adhd is going up. >> researchers from the journal of clinical child and adolescent psychology found about one in 9 american children have been diagnosed with adhd. that's slightly more than the number of kids now being treated for the disorder. researchers found nearly 54% of current adhd patients have been prescribed medication with 44% getting behavioral treatment in the past year. for your money. this afternoon, president joe biden has canceled another 7 billion dollars in student loan debt. 160,000 borrowers

will be impacted. the majority of them in public service positions like teachers, librarians and firefighters. so far, the biden administration has forgiven 167 billion dollars in school loans for over 4 million borrowers. that's part of the president's strategy to chip away at the debt after the supreme court struck down his much larger plan to cancel federal loans for 43 million americans. >> to the extent i can without. >> courts for us. >> altogether, the biden administration has approved some debt relief or about one in 10 federal borrowers. t-mobile is raising prices on some of its older mobile plans. customers were sent a notification about the changes yesterday. customers on older plans will see an increase of $2 or $5 per line. those with a price look errant he will not be affected. t-mobile says this is their first price hike in nearly a decade and claim that even with the changes

san francisco are investigating the death of a trans woman killed in the tenderloin. hope was tiffany justice reports. >> i think her life was just beginning. and so for her to be murdered at the age of 25 is just so heartbreaking and so many ways. >> wednesday, the trans community mourning a good friend with a kind heart who was killed. san francisco police say there was a physical altercation between 2 people around 2 in the afternoon on may. 15th at a residence near jones street just north of geary officers finding a woman with stab wounds. she did not survive. family friends and colleagues identified that person as 25 year-old michelle henry, big loss for the community says honey mahogany director of the office of transgender initiatives, san francisco. so this personal for the community. you know, i'm this is one of our own and >> again, you know, there was

such a huge children b pack, some other bar with people and to go it was out the door and so many people were touched by her personally and shared their stories of who she was as a person, someone who loved fashion, someone you know, it's kind of shy, quiet, but really knew how to lift spirits. somebody who had an infectious laugh specifically because she was so connected. and so all of you know, i i'm i'm really saddened by the fact that, you know, we don't get to kind of one or 2002 and the impacts that you could potentially have had our community. and on the city of san francisco. >> henry was a trans woman who was growing into her true self. a vigil was held for her tuesday night at mother a spot she used to frequent according to the medical examiner's office. michelle's cause of death is a fix yet due to neck compression is with significant. want to pull sharp force injuries. so we're seeing an increase violence. we're seeing an increase in depression and suicidality.

and, you know, us to be touched by violence in the trans community here in francisco is no really shocking. the san francisco police department arresting 33 year-old ramani. you ha she for the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. that was our tiffany justice reporting for us. >> police say although an arrest has been made, this does remain an open investigation. anyone with information is asked to please call the sfpd is tip line. on the peninsula. massive fire at a metal scrapyard sent huge plumes of smoke into the air wednesday as kron four's dan thorn learns this was not the first fire for the scrap yard. >> a massive fire at a scrap yard in redwood city sending thick, dark smoke into the air. fire crews rushing to sims metal near bear island wednesday afternoon as large gravel closs pick through the burning rubble. workers at nearby businesses describe what they heard before. a large plume of smoke blanketed

the area. it sounded like a >> like right now like metal. >> manuel michelle works at a neighboring water, recycling company and says he's seen small fires that sims metal before, but not like this. the smoke was about 100 100 feet up. >> so 7200 feet up in the air flames as high as 30 feet. the smoke drifted down wind into santa clara county, setting off an advisory from officials for sensitive groups to stay indoors. >> the bay area air quality management district says they're also investigating the fire. >> this is not the first time sims metal has had a run-in with the district. the redwood city facility was issued violations in 2012 2013 and in 2018, a large fire at the richmond facility forced to shelter in place. samples collected at the time by the air quality management district found high levels of particulates and the cancer michelle says he's gotten used

economic viability and long-term fiscal health of the city of richmond. the governor's office released new numbers from its sting operations in the east bay. they have all the rest, stolen cars and illegal weapons. kron four's terisa stasio has the details. >> this is one of more than several dozen guns tied to criminal activity taken off the streets in the last 3 months. it is all part of a continuous crime prevention operation launched in oakland and other parts of the east bay. back in february, the partnership was initiated by governor newsom. in a statement, quote, the governor said i commend the work of the chp to support local law enforcement efforts statewide, including in the east bay to ensure the safety of our communities. the state will continue to hold perpetrators accountable for criminal activity. here's a closer look at the numbers being released since february. the governor's office says that the targeted enforcement has recovered 726 stolen vehicles may 355

restaurants that closed in san francisco's fisherman's wharf is suing the city for millions of dollars. the owner of grado and parent he knows claims they invested more than 2 million dollars to renovate and maintain both restaurants. but they were unable to recoup their investment because of the city's covid restrictions and homelessness crisis. according to the lawsuit filed in san francisco superior court, the owner of the restaurant says the city of san francisco should pay back the 2 million dollars. in addition to damages for lost revenue. the city's attorney's office releasing a statement that reads, quote, over the last year, herringbone has attempted a number of maneuvers to get out of paying the 1.7 million dollars. it owes the city in back. rent. this appears to be yet another attempt. however, once we are served with the lawsuit, we will review it and respond in court. take a look at this. self-checkouts are closed at a target in emeryville. there are signs now directing shoppers to cashiers. we don't know exactly what prompted

they have had a few severe thunderstorm warnings along this line and some flooding happening in and around dallas. few of those a severe thunderstorm warning still in parts of new england as this kind of dropped a lot of rain there as work their way through the morning. and then you head to the north, montana, wyoming, dealing with frost advisories and freeze watch is still a little bit of everything happy to say. for the most part, airports are looking pretty good, but you can see boston still dealing with about a 75 minute delay because of some of those storms that are passing through today. looking good. the rest of the east coast, west coast airports also looking pretty good as the phone now having about a 34 minute delay. that is not whether oriented but probably traffic oriented as they do. get a little busy this time of year. if you're staying here in the bay will today is gorgeous out of half moon bay. look at that. nice sunshine and we should get some nice temperatures as well. today inland, expecting to get up to about the low 80's, but by tomorrow will drop that down to the low 70's. and then saturday cooler still as we deal with our chldest day of the week and we start to warm

one has any complaints, right? it's just beautiful out there. a little bit of a breeze going to see that pick up as we get into the afternoon. that's for sure. but >> today, another lovely and again, watching out for the breeze a little later as we work our way into the afternoon, starting a bit cloudy tomorrow, cooling down the beginning of the cool down coolest day of the week is going to be saturday. but then we rebound in sunday monday, which is the holiday get really, really let's talk about that breeze. that's going to picking up. this is about 6 o'clock. so you can see once again, especially if you are along the coast here, we're going to feel some of that. but notice even delta breeze is also kind of picking up. and then as we get to friday, more of the same as we start to see our front that's going to track through that will start to drop those temperatures down to pretty classic kind of environment for that to happen. so here we are taking a look and you can kind of see where we've got a little bit of that onshore flow starting to make the turn a little bit today. but more tomorrow. and as we look up to the north and the west, you see that counter clockwise circulation. that's a low pressure that's going to kind of dropped through. it's going

to help to drop our temperatures down now. normally you have a front coming through. you think rain? well, there's a little bit of moisture associated with this. but this time of year, there's not a whole lot to work with. so here's your friday afternoon. you can see some of those clouds rolling in and then saturday morning, i think basically overnight friday into the early part of saturday, that's when you get the chance for a few sprinkles out there. it should not add up to much. and it will clear out as we get later today on saturday, leaving us with some really nice weather sunday into monday. and we're talking totals of rain. i mean, this is all i've got to show you. it's not much rain. a couple, 107 inch, maybe a little bit more along some of the coastline there in the central coast. so if you're headed to bottle rocket this weekend, my concertgoers, you've got to dress right for these things. friday should be a pretty nice day. some clouds will start to move in later in the day saturday, which will be your coolest day of the run there through the weekend. that's 70 degrees. but we're going to start off very chilly. so just make sure you're ready for that. bring the layers, bring the jacket if you're headed out there this weekend by

right. take a look at this. 2 california brought their siblings are released back into the wild. >> this after the pair spent 10 months growing up that the san diego humane society's ramona wildlife center. take a look at these cuties. the bears were found in july 2023. after authorities with the state department of fish and wildlife found the animals deceased mother. the bears were just 5 months old at the time, too young to survive on their own. the 2 were taken to

ramona wildlife center where specialists watched over them with little human contact until the animals were ready to be released. the bears are microchipped fitted with gps colors and given a clean bill of health before they were sent back into the wild. who wish them all the best. and 3 recently born lion cubs got their first health check at the london zoo keepers confirmed 2 males and a female in the group. just look at them. go. the zoo said the cubs got vaccinated and had their claws and paws inspected as well. so a very thorough checkup. zoo keepers say the 3 cubs are doing very well and their first health check is a major milestone for them. and some of the animals chicago's brookfield zoo have been enjoying a bit of variety in their diet. thanks to the emergence of cicadas and they're part of the world for the first time in 17 years, footage from the zoo shows animals including cotton, top tamarins near cats roadrunners and others challen down on this rarely seen tree in looks like they're having a really
