>> now at 5.30, we're learning the to contra costa county fair employees who were robbed at gunpoint in antioch. we're carrying nearly $90,000. robbery happened over the weekend. just hours after the county fair had wrapped up. >> kron four's philippe chagall explains how it all happened. >> long after the last visitors exited the contra costa county fair at the event park in antioch. police say 2 fair employees were tasked with taking the money collected from admissions fees to the bmo bank depository on summersville road to drop off the catch. they parked in the bank. lot at around monday morning as they were in the process opening a box. vehicle pulled up. suspect exited approach. the 2 victims >> the bag, which is a backpack full of cash. >> and their cell phones, antioch police investigations. lieutenant desmond bittner says the lone suspect was armed and pressed the gun into

one of the victims backs were told the loss was a right around $88,000. so to be exact has 87,000, 800 and some change. the suspect left in a vehicle and has not been found. all we have and the suspect was a unknown race. male. we're in dark clothing and wearing a mask. we stopped by the administrative offices here at the event park with questions about the incident. but the ceo and manager job ringle declined to comment. it's unclear why the employees were told to deposit the money so early in the dark morning. lieutenant victor says investigators are looking into whether or not the victims were followed from the event part to the bank. and if any fair employees helped commission the robbery. are investigators looking trying to find, you know, if we have any similar robberies with similar in within the past few months and will you know, we did when come up and investigate best. we can call police if you were in the area during the robbery and can shed light on what happened. >> investigators are in the

process of obtaining and reviewing surveillance video that may have captured the incident in antioch, philippe djegal kron. 4 news. >> 3 family members will stand trial in the death of a 3 year-old girl and san jose. prosecutors say the girl's mother, uncle and grandfather performed an exorcism on her at a church back on september 2021, all 3 claimed they were trying to cast out a demon from the young girl. investigators say the girl's body had several injuries when firefighters found her inside the church, a coroner determined she died from a combination of 6. yeah, and smothering a trial date will be decided in august if convicted. the 3 family members could be facing life in prison. >> infant delivered by emergency c section right after a crash in san jose last week has died from their injuries. according to police. last wednesday, the pregnant woman was headed north on south white road when she tried to turn left onto

westbound farrington. however, she crashed with an oncoming suv and the woman was then taken to the hospital. emergency c section occurred. the infant was in critical condition but has died. this is san jose's 18th now fatal crash of the year. >> there is a new monument in san mateo dedicated to first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty, standing tall in the city's central park, the monument represents branches of the u.s. military and the san mateo police and fire departments. >> may this memorial service a beacon of hope? a place of solace. and a reminder of the enormous debt we owe to those who have given everything for our safety and freedom. >> a symbol of remembrance and thanks in celebration of all of our soldiers and now all of our public safety officers.

>> the monument is located near the flag pole on the central lawn. >> sonoma county park rangers could be stripped of their peace officer status pretty soon. county supervisors have endorsed the move. the vote was 4 to one to do so if approved, officially rangers would no longer be able to make arrests. you sirens and lights to respond to emergencies or kerry equipment like the times. snow county park officials say the proposal would eliminate stringent training and hiring requirements allowing jobs to be filled faster. but several rangers argue the change would hinder their ability to respond to emergencies quickly and put visitors at risk. i believe that the solution will create a ripple effect, greater issues. >> that will not affect rangers and our department staff but also have drastic effects on visitors who will not have the support and response that they require and have come to expect from us. >> this proposal now goes back to the board for a second vote before it can be implemented.

lawrence. >> california bill requiring landlords to allow pets without extra fees is one step closer to becoming law. the bill introduced by san francisco assemblymember matt haney passed the assembly with a few amendments. landlords would still be allowed to limit the number of pets renters could have and buildings with fewer than 15 units would be exempt from this. the bill now heads to the state senate. >> the justice department is suing to break up entertainment giant live nation. it's the latest move in the government's ongoing investigation into the ticketmaster owner and kron four's catherine heenan is live in the newsroom tonight with the latest there, catherine. yeah, hey, grant that will. this lawsuit says that the country's biggest concert promotion and ticketing company has created an illegal monopoly. >> one that drives up prices kills competition. the attorney general made it really clear today. the justice department is coming after live nation. >> we allege that live nation has illegally monopolized

markets across the live concert industry in the united states for far too long. it is time to break it up. >> 29 states, including california and the district of columbia are suing live nation. the attorney general says live nation has created a monopoly which squeezes out smaller concert promoters hurts artists means higher prices for fans. live nation is apparently furious with the announcement saying in a statement the doj is lawsuit won't solve the issues. fans care about relating to ticket prices, service fees and access to in-demand shows you have more competition. you have a better product. california was recently in the news for also taking aim at the company just last month. assembly member buffy wicks introduced a bill that would have no longer allowed just one company to be the first to sell tickets for a concert or sporting event. that bill failed to move forward in

today's move, the justice department says live nation not only suffocates competition. it leaves fans drowning in fees. those include ticketing fees, service fees, convenience fees, platinum fees. price master fees. per order. fees processing fees. payment >> among others. >> the justice department says if it does prevail in all of this, fans could pay lower ticket prices in the future saying that's because broader range of companies would be able to offer show tickets. grant. >> all right, catherine, appreciate that. yedh, it is a kind of a mess trying to get concert tickets out there. welcome for celebrating a api heritage month and up next week, take a look at a local college program fueling interest in the diverse stories and experiences being asian american.

started to back off a bit today and that trend is going to take us into the next couple days of as much as 3, 4 degrees cooler around the bay area. much cooler weather as we head toward tomorrow afternoon and a lot cooler well below the average to start out the weekend. temperatures today right at the average and temperatures go 64 degrees. 66 in oakland, 77 degrees in san jose. 79 in livermore, 82 and warm and concord. 82 also in santa rosa tomorrow. yeah, we're waking up with plenty of clouds early on some patchy fog and then it's going hug the coast. so kind of cool out toward the beaches. census goes going to be kind of cool and breezy by tomorrow afternoon. cool temperatures continuing up toward the beaches there with the fog, a lingering along the coast inside the bay. find a little more. some of that wind will be blowing a bit will be gusty through some of the mountain gaps. there. 2030 mile an hour. plus gusts about 63 and sunny in palo alto. 63 in mount view, the south bay. yeah, much cooler. you're talking about 80's just a couple of days ago. tomorrow. you're in the mid 60's. so pretty comfortable weather out there by tomorrow afternoon. warm still well inland. i think we squeak out some mid 70's, the warm spots as we head toward the afternoon

opportunities to tend to thrive. >> on the issues of retail fentanyl poisoning lawmakers in the state senate passed a bipartisan package of bills they say will address both. one of the bill seeks to expedite the creation of more recap facilities for californians experiencing substance use disorders and on retail theft. one bill seeks more funding for law enforcement while another would increase prison sentences for those found guilty of stealing more than $50,000 worth of property. we're working together for safer california. putting aside politics and making sure we do right for our communities. but right now at least the bills do not include a proposal to repeal prop. 47 passed by california voters in 2014. the law change certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, including theft. when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. while supporters have long argued the law will help reduce california's prison population and lead to criminal justice reform opponents to this day
