thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn. we begin tonight with breaking news out of the east bay. a massive fire explodes at a lumber yard warehouse in oakland sending huge clouds of smoke into the air. more than 80 firefighters rushing to economy, lumber as flames pere seen roaring off of the lumberyard building. and you can see in this video here, firefighters attacking it from multiple angles calls reporting this fire came in just before 8 o'clock tonight. but by the time firefighters arrived, the building was already engulfed in flames. >> we just heard a bunch of people coming into the gas station there there's a big fire. you guys he was going he is going to close. i go outside. it's just smoke first. and then 2 minutes later, the flames erupted from the roof. chaos. it's crazy. some people are saying that could have been well, most people that we what it could railroad tracks. definitely is not the first time we've had fires around here, especially in this area. so there's been

fires here before. but nothing of this kind really this 32 about the whole business has never been like this before. >> fire officials say that nearby residents should closed doors and windows to prevent smoke exposure. railroad traffic has also been closed in that area as the tracks are right there by the fire. firefighters say they're going to remain on scene throughout the night. >> but now we still it's still an active fire fight. we still there's a rear, the rear of the building that you can see behind us. there's a couple like smaller garage. is that still have some active fire that are in the back that you can see from and we've got units and they're working on suppressing that at this time. >> kron four's going to stay on top of this story and we will continue to monitor this fire overnight. stay with us on air and online and also on kron 4 morning news beginning at 5 tomorrow morning. we have a sad update tonight after a deadly crash last night on highway one in san mateo county. we're now learning the victim was 28 year-old joaquin dominic jimenez alvarado, who was the son of half moon bay's mayor joaquin jimenez and

tonight, friends and family are gathering to remember joaquin kron four's jack moment has the story. >> well, here at this are on a road right off california highway one. you see people still in shock trying to just come to terms with this loss, but they are grieving. meantime, earlier today we did see several people, including family, friends of the hop of a mayor he says he will be best. >> remembering someone gone too soon. >> oh, man, it's unbelievable. we can't. we can't imagine. we honestly, i woke up this morning i was dreaming for adrian cansino have bay that someone was a lifelong friend. couldn't tell you that age, but he's proud you know, urges young guns out here in middle school. just kinda ryan r by schools all day. 28 year-old joaquin dominic. he met alvarado, died saturday. >> riding his motorcycle down

50's. when i come back, we'll talk about the severe weather in the midwest and your 7 day forecast because more heat is on the way. back to you. >> all right, jill, thanks a lot. another big story we're following tonight out of the south bay. a 25 year-old accused of punching an elderly man in the stomach and then posing for a picture has been arrested. campbell, police say they've been looking for this suspect for weeks. kron four's sara stinson reports. >> campbell, police say this video led to the arrest of a 25 year-old man accused of punching 2 elderly men in the last month. the first attack happened on may 4th. police say nicholas host was walking on santa moscow, keno road and punched an elderly man in the stomach whose daughter ran away. the victim followed after and got a photo of him. police posted this video on may 17th asking the public for help identifying him and it worked the next day. investigators got his name, but they were not able to contact host police say 75

year-old man was punched in the face on inwood drive-in elam avenue on friday. police say they learned host was the suspect in both attacks. on saturday. police contacted his parents and arrested him at their home. who stutter has been charged with 2 counts of elder abuse and for battery of an officer. police say he kicked an officer while being booked into jail. the 25 year olds. parents home is just a few houses down from the victim of friday's attack. kron 4 spoke with a relative of the victim. they said he's still recovering and they're not quite ready to talk about what happened. another neighbor who wants to remain anonymous says this is sad for everyone involved. i feel sorry. >> for both sides, it's not like all. this is just kids. just a terrible not a terrible candies. just as he just has. he's a kid with mental and the victim, you know, as an elderly man. so i feel sorry for him. i'm sure they want. from their side. they want

residents are remembering the people killed in a mass shooting 3 years ago at a vta rail yard in san jose. >> that gunman shot and killed 9 workers and then took his own life kron four's justine waltman reports a 57 year-old disgruntled vta employee gunned down. >> 9 of his co-workers at the guadalupe light. yeah, rail yard before turning the gun on himself at the time the shooter was the subject of investigations into his workplace conduct. may 26 will forever be known as a day of remembrance in san jose. the building where most of the

victims were shot to death has now been demolished. and 8 of the 9 victims families reached an 8 million dollar lawsuit against the vta. they also are getting workers compensation benefits, pension and pre retirement death benefits. but they also agreed to withdraw what wrong full death lawsuits against the vta. may their memories be a blessing for the newsroom. i'm justine waldman. kron. 4 news. powerful storms across texas, oklahoma and arkansas killing at least 15 people overnight. >> video showing just some of that destruction that was left behind after a tornado plowed through cook county, texas, near the oklahoma border. texas governor greg abbott confirming at least 100 people are dead and nearly 400 homes have been damaged. he says right now the state is transitioning into a new phase in its response, there will be a final round of search and rescue before 8 and supplies are delivered to communities in need they said the storm touched down near a mobile home park, killing 7 people,

including a 2 and a 5 year-old the severe weather coming in so quickly that 50 people rode out the storm and a texas truck stop bathroom as the storm shearing the roof and walls off of the building. let's check in now with kron four's gayle ong for a little bit more on the forecast. a deal. >> devastating storms of this season. >> come saturday. that is the first day of hurricane season. so we do have some active weather. >> heading our way. here is the big picture. so texas is quiet right now as well as the west coast. but you can see the strong line of thunderstorms moving through the midwest here. so at this time there are tornado watches across 6 states here. so tennessee is one of them. and that is going to go on until early tomorrow morning. so back here in the bay area, we're just dealing with the low clouds. we have the sunshine in the afternoon. so we've quiet weather pattern here. so back to the high

country. if you're heading out to talk over the holiday, we have 70's for you in the sunny skies. so very nice time of the year and the one with the warm weather. but back here, you can see half moon bay. you can notice those cloud deck over there that has been to set up. and that is our typical warm season set up, right? we've got those clouds in the evening in the morning and then it starts to mix out in the afternoon. so overnight lows will be in the upper 50's upper 40's low 50's across the region and then we will be warming up but we will stay relatively cool by the coast. so 50's by the coast, the 60's and 70's over by the bay and inland. you could see 80's once again a low 80's. that is that with mostly sunny skies. and here's that 7 day outlook. you can see the heat is coming at the end of the week for you inland. so the remain in the upper 70's for in our inland communities, low 70's by the bay across to the next couple of days. and then the coast will remain in the 50's and 60's. so cooler there. but the

next weather, how the weather headline will be the end of the week. so when i see you next weekend, we'll be heating up. upper 80's on friday. and then next weekend looks like we'll be in the 80's, mostly sunny inland. and the you know, yeah, their the end of the week. it is. wow. we're doing with the heat and very quiet weather. ok, thank you, sir. >> bottle rock music festival wrapping up in napa tonight. ed sheeran, the final headline performer. but the irish pop star isn't the only act that's getting cheers from concertgoers. they're also celebrating the federal government's efforts to break up ticketmaster. the justice department is suing ticketmaster and its parent company live nation accusing them of running an illegal monopoly over live events in america and asking a court to break up the system that school competition and drives up prices for fans. the sweeping antitrust lawsuit was broad with 30 state and district attorneys general.
