extended weekend. today is going to be the warmest day of what has been the past few days of relatively cool weather compared to average at least for this time of year. this is your look outside right now. little bit of cloud cover filtered in across the bay area. we're not talking a lot of fog this morning, but there are a couple of foggy patches near the coastline and generally an onshore breeze today. in fact, a little edie of cooler air pushing right into san pablo bay this morning. so you may notice a few breezy spots as you cross your bridges. all in all, though, this is helping to moderate temperatures for our morning hours later on today, we will get to some warmer conditions. but as for now, it's a lot of 40's to 50's on the map. good morning to get out there for that brisk morning jog here in a few minutes. once that sun does come up as it is such an early sunrise this morning later on today or daytime highs will range from the 70's to low 80's, the very warmest inland, some 60's and 70's along the bay shore 50's and 60's towards the coast. as for roads this morning, what we have to expect out there is

some pretty smooth sailing conditions all in all. you can see that on the bay bridge this morning. it is a 7 minute drive across bay bridge from the mesa premont street. the same bridge at 12 minutes to make your crossing there. the richmond center fell and the golden gate likely to have morning commute conditions this morning as we are seeing such nice clear roadways. and of course, it is a holiday. so not as many of us working reyna. let's head to the east bay. >> a massive fire explodes in a lumberyard warehouse in oakland sending huge clouds of smoke into the air. more than 80 firefighters rushing to economy lumber as flames are roaring off the lumberyard building. you can see in the video, firefighters attacking it from multiple angles. callers reported this fire coming in just before 8 last night. by the time firefighters arrived, the building was already engulfed in flames. >> we just heard a bunch of people coming into the gas station there there's a big fire. you guys he was going on. he is going to close. i go

outside. it's just smoke up first. and then 2 minutes later, the flames erupted from the roof. chaos. it's crazy. some people are saying that could have been well, most people, but we're don't know it could railroad tracks. definitely is not the first time we've had fires around here, especially in this area. so there's been fires here before. but nothing of this kind really this 32 about the whole business has never been like this before. >> firefighters told nearby residents to close their doors and windows to prevent smoke exposure yet railroad traffic being close as it tracks are right by the fire. firefighters remain on the scene throughout the night. >> but now we still it's still an active fire fight. we still there's a rear, the rear of the building that you can see behind us. there's a couple like smaller garage. is that still have some active fire that are in the back you can see from and we've got units and they're working on suppressing that at this time. >> across 4 will continue to monitor this fire throughout the morning. and the one person was hurt in a fire in a mobile home in vallejo. the

started yesterday afternoon carolina and to looney streets blocks away from the solano county superior court. firefighters say one person was inside when the fire started. they say the victim was a mood and is now in critical condition at the hospital. we don't have any word yet on how that started. and we're now learning the victim of a motorcycle crash on highway one in san mateo county was 28 year-old joaquin in as rodell the son of half moon bay mayor joaquin jimenez last night, friends and family gather to remember him before moment has that story. >> remembering someone gone too soon. >> oh, man, it's unbelievable. we can't. we can't imagine. we honestly, i woke up this morning i think i was dreaming for adrian cansino of how bay that someone was a lifelong friend. couldn't tell you that age, you know, urges young

signs of being intoxicated and under the influence of drugs. they say the man tried to run away after they cuffed him. they say he was booked into the sonoma county jail. in the south bay, a man accused of punching an elderly man in the stomach and then posing for a picture was arrested camera. police say they looking for the suspect for weeks. kron 4 sarah stinson has that story. >> campbell, police say this video led to the arrest of a 25 year-old man accused of punching 2 elderly men in the last month. the first attack happened on may 4th. police say nicholas host was walking on santa moscow, keno road and punched an elderly man in the stomach whose daughter ran away. the victim followed after and got a photo of him. police posted this video on may 17th asking the public for help identifying him and it worked the next day. investigators got his name, but they were not able to contact host police say 75

year-old man was punched in the face on inwood drive-in elam avenue on friday. police say they learned host was the suspect in both attacks. on saturday. police contacted his parents and arrested him at their home. who stutter has been charged with 2 counts of elder abuse and for battery of an officer. police say he kicked an officer while being booked into jail. the 25 year olds. parents home is just a few houses down from the victim of friday's attack. kron 4 spoke with a relative of the victim. they said he's still recovering and they're not quite ready to talk about what happened. another neighbor who wants to remain anonymous says this is sad for everyone involved. i feel sorry. >> for both sides, it's not like all. this is just kids. just a terrible not a terrible katie's just as he just has. he's a kid with mental and the victim. you know, it's an elderly man. so i feel sorry for him. i'm sure they want. from their side. they want

justice to corps has stopped by the who said her family's home to see if they had a response to all of this. but no one answered the door. when i knock someone did drive, i mean, say they went to school with the 25 year-old back in the day and they were sad to hear this news. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in campbell kron. 4 news. >> several people were trapped in an elevator at a senior care facility center in oakley yesterday. contra costa fire says they found water leaking from the second floor when they arrive. let's take a look. this is what they found. firefighters say the water is a hazard. 50 people were evacuated, are relocated until repairs are finished. >> extra oxygen i would be in shape. because, you know, and generators here. >> firefighters say the water source is a sewage leak from a bathroom tub made his way to the main electrical room. they say the calls the call has met to determine what exactly it happening today. residents coming together to honor our

>> that sent a woman to the hospital in millbrae. the crash happened sunday morning right near the intersection of millbrae avenue. el camino real now the senate sheriff's office says a witness told him that a car hit the woman and drove away. the woman had to be taken to the hospital. the sheriff's office has identified the driver as a 32 year-old man from mill rate and arrested him at his home. the same is booked into the maguire correctional facility on suspicion of felony hit and run with serious injuries. and he's bay freemont. police arrested 4 people accused of running a counterfeit money scheme. well, police reported to store on warm springs boulevard tuesday may 14th after the manager says people pay with fake money twice in one day, police identified the suspect from the store surveillance video. they think the same people paying with counterfeit bills other nearby stores. on sunday, police found the men and the women behind the scheme parked right in front of a different store. all 4 out counterfeit bills on them. they were arrested with an outstanding warrant for making counterfeit money.

well, in the south bay, santa clara county nurses reaching a tentative deal with county leaders for months, nurses and the county where over raises workers safety proposals to float nurses between different hospitals. the registered nurses professional association says the deal includes a 15% raise over 4 years. says the idea to float nurses between hospital seems to be off the table. the union voted to ratify deal now before the board of supervisors on june 4th for final approval. california now tried a pilot program which would issue a road charge. california drivers based on how many miles you drive stead of how much gas they purchase gas tax revenues are expected to decrease. state laws require more electric vehicles to reduce emissions and gas taxes help cover the cost of road maintenance. some market analysts say they worry the gps tracking will be required to help calculate the tax charges, which could lead to possible privacy concerns that who tracks driver data, how it's used. coming on the kron.

welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news on this memorial day as we are remembering the lives lost. there are lot of events happening. we'll talk more about that coming up. we want to get a look at the forecast for many of you who are going to be out today morning pay their. we are looking at a nice forecast

today. temperatures are going to be a little bit up from where we were over the past weekend, but still pretty comparable. >> nothing too, too warm for today. happen bay this morning out along the coastline. definitely the presence of some cooler marine air and a lot of cloud cover overhead. we do have an onshore breeze today. so we do have pockets of fog in the bay itself. little bit of good news is as we see this cool ocean air sweeping in, we'll help to moderate temperatures keeping the vast majority of the bay area only in the 70's for your highs later on. as of right now, we're in the 40's to 50's for current temperatures. nevado in petaluma at 46 degrees. alameda and hayward at 53. so a cool morning. setting us up for a warmer and sunny afternoon today. if you are heading out to the remembrances for memorial day, expect some 70's for the most part inland 60's and 70's along the bay shore. as for your roads right now, things are very empty and are likely to remain empty as we make our way through the day bay bridge, san mateo bridge, as well as the richmond center

what it looked like at the senior care facility on carroll lane in oakley. now, the hazardous water was leaking from a bathroom tub that was over filling on the second floor. officials say it was filled with a mixture of different things are still trying to figure out exactly what and eventually it made its way down to the building's main electrical room, which caused some chaos, both medical personnel and fire officials were there on the scene along with pg and e officials who later determined that that water was hazardous and total. 50 senior residents have been displaced because of this. and when it comes to when they can return home, well, there's currently no eta. take a listen to some of that we spoke with that was there on the scene. lots of flooding, lots of pipe issues in this building. there's been multiple units where people had to leave especially on the second floor. >> there, the trash each are closer. supposed to be picking up the trash for the seniors 3 times a week. they're not doing that. it trashes sitting in senior homes. i'm removing trash for seniors. other seniors are taking it down. it's been nothing but problems are and know that he's helping

>> now other residents that we spoke with there at the building also say that there have been other issues there that have not been addressed. as of now when it comes to an eta on when the building will be fixed? well, there is no eta. fire officials say things are still under investigation. so as we get more information, we'll keep you updated. that's very latest here in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas. i will send it back to all right, michael, thank you. the breakdown there. >> well, happening tomorrow, covicted killer scott peterson will appear in court via zoom. his defense team trying to get a mini trial by gathering new evidence. stanislaw county district attorney's office is opposing that motion los angeles innocence project representing peterson and they want the dna test a rope in a stolen van that was burned right near the peterson home around the time of his wife, laci went missing. the da's office is asking the judge to deny the motion because all the evidence that was previously used to convict peterson in 2004. well, police

on the peninsula are investigating a shooting that killed a man right near park in belmont. police say the 27 year-old victim was shot and killed around 8 o'clock saturday night. investigators responded to the area right near erland and hillary streets just off of one. a one year-old on a part. the say the victim was shot multiple times despite life saving efforts. he died at the scene. we heard from a neighbor who witness the police activity going on in the area. skating and >> how have you know, we've got a family. i have been do kids. i have a son and a daughter and the mostly be in you know, evening in the night. but the walks park, know, whatever. so it is getting to, come to know that the day has been on the site. >> not police continue to work on this investigation. and they're asking residents in the area for any surveillance video. san jose man will send it to 10 years in prison for forcing his partner and a trafficking. monterey county prosecutors say courtney davenport beat his girlfriend

and forced her to engage in acts for his financial gain. well, salinas police say they were tipped off when the victim call them back in february of last year. the victim telling police her boyfriend davenport, struck her in the eye because she refused to do it. she was told it was later learned that this happened several times. davenport was eventually arrested and convicted of human trafficking and domestic violence along with his prison sentence. data will also have to register as a offender. the sanibel police say possibly multiple suspects on the loose after a shootout. this is right outside of a botched the ball tournament. one person was shot and had to be taken to the hospital. it all went down shortly after 4 in the afternoon on saturday, right outside of marin bochy were people at the tournament say they fear for their lives. kron four's that moment has their story. well, sandra fell. police say if anybody witnessed the shootings to please step forward and offer
