facility in oakland. and the latest on a huge lumberyard fire. this was in oakland. >> from the bay station. you're watching kron. noon. >> everyone, thank you for joining us on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm catherine heenan today. cities across the bay area will be honoring those who died serving their country. kron 4 charles clifford is live in san francisco national cemetery where there was a ceremony this morning. charles. >> well, good afternoon to you know, the san francisco national cemetery was established in 18 84 in every year. they hold a memorial day take a look. kind in the distance there today. service still ongoing as folks are just wrapping up there. they're playing taps right now. let's go take a look at some video from a little earlier now here in the presidio they put out about 30,000 flags on the graves

here in the cemetery. they've had the ceremony a memorial day for over 150 years. a few days there that they missed because of war and the pandemic. but it has been a very popular event, got several 100 people here. there was also a coast guard flyover. former kron 4 anchor ken wayne is the master of ceremonies today and also. speaker nancy spoke saying that this is a chance to know him member. the people have died in the line of duty, but to really come together and try to build a better world in their memory. >> so we have to work together to come together. one nation. one destiny. to honor the vision of our founders, the aspiration of our children. and the sacrifice of men and women in uniform. be permitted, committed 2 working to gather to build a future worthy of the sacrifice of all

that you. >> all representative pelosi also said that she's going to travel to normandy, france next week for the 80th anniversary of d-day here in san francisco, the national cemetery. cemetery is open until 06:00pm. if anyone wants to come down, pay their respects. that's a very latest here in the presidio charles clifford kron, 4 news. thank you, charles. >> president biden took part in a wreath laying ceremony for memorial day at the arlington national cemetery in virginia. it was held in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier. a final resting place for one of america's unidentified world war. one service members unknowns from later wars were added in 1958.

bay 5. 25 and in solano and santa clara counties, 5.20, a gallon. the golden gate bridge is celebrating its 87th birthday on this day in 1937, the bridge open to the public for the first time it had been under construction for years connecting marin county to san francisco and the peninsula. there was a pedestrian traffic there. that was a cool photo that very first day. then later, it open to a car's the next day. now we are looking live at saint foggy and a good time to take another look at the forecast. kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan is here. cuyler. do you know that the people who put up the bridge predicted that by the 70's the toll would be free that they work it i like that for their dozen. that we did. >> those pictures are so fantastic look at, though. it such incredible history to see. well, i i i'm sure they saw the fog around the bridge where they were building. it certainly see it today. we're

also seeing a little bit of it here at sfo. speaking of traveling, obviously today is going to be a big travel day for folks who might be heading home for the holiday. >> and i did want to take a look at airports are doing pretty good locally here with our airports about a 25 minute delay at san francisco and sfo and that one is likely due to some of the construction. they one of the runways there. as far as weather is concerned, we're slowly but surely getting some sun to break through here now, one of the spots that has been sitting in full sunshine already is san jose. we should see a lot more of that as work our way into the afternoon. but you can see where the temperatures are showing where the sunshine is, right. 77 in antioch, 71 in livermore. we're getting some sunshine there. san jose, obviously in the low 70's to santa rosa getting some nice sunshine right now. but certainly the marine layer is hanging on around the golden gate bridge and at the coast today. very typical summer pattern that we're in with the fog in the morning and the sun in the afternoon. you can see on storm tracker. 4 here is just starting to pull away. now what that means is for any memorial day observations. today i'm taking san jose's example. we should get plenty of sunshine looking out for a

high in the mid 70's there today elsewhere around the base and nice temperatures, too. so i will stay cool in san francisco with a high of about 58. you can see once you head inland, it's a nice 60's around the bay and then we could even see that 80 81 82 degree mark 83 possible in antioch, 78 in santa rosa, looking after a 71 in fremont. so pretty nice day out there on the back a little bit. we'll talk more about our extended forecast. take a look at the rest of the week. thank you. kyla. >> in developing news, several people have been displaced after a sewage leak. it happened at a senior home in oakley. that problem discovered after people were trapped inside an elevator kron four's. michael thomas has the details. >> this hazmat situation happened yesterday morning in contra costa county fire officials say as of now there's more than 4 dozen residents and their pets that have been displaced from their home because of hazardous water. this is what the scene looked like at the senior care facility on carroll lane. in oakley, the hazardous water was leaking from the bath tub

that was over filling on the second floor. >> officials say that water is still being investigated and that water eventually made its way down the hallway into the building's main electrical room, causing chaos for residents. lots of flooding, lots of hype issues in this building. there's been multiple units where people had to leave especially on the second floor. >> there, the trash each are closer. supposed to be picking up the trash for the seniors 3 times a week. they're not doing that. it trashes sitting in senior homes. i'm removing trash for seniors. other seniors are taking it down. it's been nothing but problems are and no, nobody's both medical personnel and fire officials were called to the scene along with pg and e who determine the water to be hazardous. >> in total, 50 residents and their pets have been displaced with no idea of when they can come to complain comply. >> give us 72 hour. eviction notices up our arena. but charges they're good kids get he looks pretty good. we set

up light is. >> multiple residents say the building has a handful of issues that have not been addressed. and as of now, fire officials say things are still under investigation as we get more details from both officials and that property management company will continue to keep you updated. >> that is the very latest here in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas. also back to you. >> in the east bay, a large fire exploded at a warehouse in oakland sunday, sending huge clouds of smoke into the air. more than 80 firefighters rushed to economy lumber as flames were erupting from the lumberyard building. that fire was reported just before 8 last night. and by the time firefighters arrived, they say the building was engulfed in flames. >> we just heard a bunch of people coming into the gas station there there's a big fire. you guys he was going he is going to close. i go outside. it's just smoke up first. and then 2 minutes later, the flames erupted from the roof. chaos. it's crazy.

motorcycle crash on highway one in san mateo county over the weekend. >> was 28 year-old joaquin jimenez alvarado. he was the son of half moon bay. mayor joaquin jimenez last night. friends and gathered to remember him kron check moment has the story. >> remembering someone gone too soon. >> oh, man, it's unbelievable. we can't. we can't imagine. we honestly, i woke up this morning i was dreaming for adrian cansino have bay that someone was a lifelong friend. couldn't tell you that age, but he's proud you know, urges young guns out here in middle school. just kindness. ryan r by schools all day. >> 28 year-old joaquin dominic. he met ms alvarado, died saturday, riding his motorcycle down highway one. he was the son of half moon bay, mayor hockey. he minutes. the aftermath was immediate we actually we have a group

child. we all check in when we hear about incidents like and unfortunately he was one of the guys that can not check in with. and while the roadside vigil continues to stop community members around town. >> of remembrance for walking brings the family and his friends together. we honestly a very humble, very friendly. just honest on this. on this to heart all with mostly, you know, fellow brother to us and not even a full day since the accident. people holding back tears an eye-opening nightmare. thrill not real, but now it's yeah. it's-it's setting javier release, another childhood friend says one thing that holds their community together. >> their love for different. and voters i had come out get the guys out. >> his going to always joaquin's but we a small type and that we have here. we have the community. we have the people. we have the friend of the family. we we have it.

we're going hold it down now. they're jimenez tells us that his son will be deeply missed. and the number of people that you did see at that vigil is evidence of that. now the rest of waukee's family did tell me that they will find out about potential funeral services. >> coming up in the coming week, it happened jack ball, but kron 4 news. >> all right. time to talk about the forecast again as we take a live look at the embarcadero and not so much now, but a little breezy of times. i notice kyla. yeah, exactly. we're going to be a little breezy this afternoon tomorrow. it's going to pick up even a little bit more. but today we should have some nice weather for our memorial day get-togethers. and we're looking at for temperatures out of the coast of the 50's. some nice 70's around the bay itself in a few 60's out there. and then if you have really far inland, that's where we could see a couple of those low 80's. but the sunshine, it's going pretty pervasive with the exception of the coast. and that is because, of course, the marine layer still hanging on in spots there. you can certainly see it here at the golden gate bridge. and, you know, as you mentioned, a little bit of a breeze out there, too. not too

bad temperatures getting pretty nice inland, though. we're in the 70's in livermore, fremont and san jose. some nice 50's 60's around the bay. you can see redwood city already sitting at 69 berkeley about 58. so certainly a little cooler there. we head up to the north bay, some nice sunshine in petaluma at 71. same story in santa rosa. napa. still a little bit cooler there. it's 62 7 quite gotten the sunshine everywhere. it is a little breezy. we will see this pick up this afternoon. i do think we'll see more of a pronounced pick up in the breezy conditions as we get into tomorrow. but that afternoon breeze, that onshore flow is part of what brings that marine layer in. and we're in this kind of typical pattern where we see that happen. so the typical pattern is that high pressure basically hangs out off the west coast. it keeps a low pressure from reaching us. we're going to be pretty zone all this week, but we will see a bit of a warm-up as we head to the end of the week. but you see these represent temperatures so as we get into about thursday, you notice that orange starts to move up a little bit. that means that we get a little bit warmer and that's because high pressure starts to kind of build and a little bit more and make that ridge more

pronounced now as we get into the weekend, it should stay pretty nice. but notice it does kind of stay just zone. all right. kind of flat lines. as we look the next 7 days with the exception of that little push of warmth as we get into thursday and friday. so there's our low pressure. you can see our high pressure here out in the pacific. again, very typical summer pattern that allows that marine layer to roll in as we get into our mornings and then push away as we get into our afternoon. so here's what we're looking at for our forecast. pretty nice today. and tomorrow. even warmer still, as we work our way through the end of the week, thursday and friday is when expect that warmth to peak and will pull it back a bit for the weekend. but that's still above average in quite lovely as we get into saturday and sunday. thank you, kyra. and the south bay police have arrested a man who is accused of attacking 2 and seemed to be a random attack. >> campbell, police say that they have spent weeks looking for him. kron 4 sarah stinson has that story. >> campbell, police say this video led to the arrest of a

25 year-old man accused of punching 2 elderly men in the last month. the first attack happened on may 4th. police say nicholas host was walking on santa moscow, keno road and punched an elderly man in the stomach whose daughter ran away. the victim followed after and got a photo of him. police posted this video on may 17th asking the public for help identifying him and it worked the next day. investigators got his name, but they were not able to contact host police say 75 year-old man was punched in the face on inwood drive-in elam avenue on friday. police say they learned host ed or was the suspect in both attacks on saturday. police contacted his parents and arrested him at their home. who stutter has been charged with 2 counts of elder abuse and for battery of an officer. police say he kicked an officer while being booked into jail. the 25 year olds. parents home is just a few houses down from the victim of friday's attack. kron 4 spoke with a relative of the victim. they said he's still

recovering and they're not quite ready to talk about what happened. another neighbor who wants to remain anonymous says this is sad for everyone involved. i feel sorry. >> for both sides, it's not like all. this is just kids. just a terrible not a terrible kid. he's just as he just has. he's a kid with mental and the victim. you know, it's an elderly man. so i feel sorry for him. i'm sure they want. from their side. they want justice to corps has stopped by the who said her family's home to see if they had a response to all of this. but no one answered the door. when i knock someone did drive, i mean, say they went to school with the 25 year-old back in the day and they were sad to hear this news. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in campbell kron. 4 news. >> still ahead, as we approach the 80th anniversary of d-day, we follow the uss normandy and its continued fight for freedom. also, the warning about a popular beach on the peninsula that you should know

>> sandra fell. police are looking for suspects after a shoot-out outside of bochy ball tournament. one person was shot taken to the hospital. it happened about 04:00pm saturday outside marin bochy conference. jack molmud has the story. >> well, sandra fell. police say if anybody witnessed the shootings to please step forward and offer what information they do have because, of course, there still are those suspects on the loose. now, police tell me it actually happened in not one but 2 separate locations. those reports of shots fired happening in front of dozens of people. >> workers at marine bochy tell us at least 6 cars were damaged after 2 cars sped down the street saturday afternoon setting off a crash scene here. many of these cars

belonging to tournament players but former but bochy executive director jessica levy in what she saw next shook her to her 2 guys got out of one car and there's they started shooting at the other guys. you know, everybody was shaken up. she says the people shooting at each other. we're all young men. >> and one was shot in the abdomen. she says everybody scattered. yeah, that that the sound of the terror of everybody screaming and then gunshots is. >> are in the active in at the face of an investigation. sergeant ronald aguilar with the sandra fell. police department says they can't tell us much, but that reports of the shooting not only happened outside the box. ball facility, but also 2 blocks down. we believe this was an isolated event. so there is no danger to the public. no danger, but certainly plenty of fear the shooter right in the eye and then and then. >> got a little scared. jessica says everybody fell to the ground as the bullets flew. she was worried the shooting was going to spread

inside. i never feared for my life down here or even felt unsafe can't really say that i don't feel unsafe now because that that was. for these folks. >> the show must go on now. this is total surprise. >> kind of screwed apart are bochy tournament. they clean up and carry on in regard. ing that person who was shot. police say they are expected to survive. and again, if you know anything about what happened during these 2 shootings reported here at sandra they're expected to contact police in sandra fell jacmel but kron 4 news. >> in san francisco yesterday, s neighborhood came together in support of a dog walker who lost his home in a fire after getting racist threats. >> that i can now look at to. that's the whole goal. always want to have to go some like it happened. so to see it happening now as the bus that occurs, but believes were here like that.

>> terry met with a member of mayor breed's office last week when his home on grove street near the painted ladies caught fire. williams was talking about ways to try to address repeated racist threat to says he's had in recent months. not clear yet how that fire started. william says that he is grateful for the community's support he's been getting. >> completely outrageous what's happened to terry and his family and then for them suffer you know, horrible fire. on top of that. i think everyone just feels, but want to help. and that's what you see. that's easy with thousands of dollars rolling into gofundme. people dropping off people are just coming together and let tearing his family know that they're loved and the and supported. and it's amazing to so many community members out he is always looking out for everybody in the neighborhood. just an awesome this is all devastating to lose everything. mean, it feels

least i can do. >> donation bins, as you see there also set up to williams and his family. all right. time for another look at the forecast as we look live at sfo, lows back. she's also talking about some wild weather in other parts of the country. that's right. we'll get to that in a second. some horrible tornadoes over the weekend. but right now i thought i'd start with california where it's 70 degrees in los angeles. 82 in fresno. so getting some nice sunshine inland. >> we're at about 56 in moderate. the coast is certainly cooler. as we hang on to that marine layer. for those of you who are by the coast. that's the story here in san francisco. to you're taking a live look right now at the bay bridge. and while you turn the other way, you'll see sunshine in this direction. you certainly see the clouds are still hanging on. so that does leave us a little cooler in san francisco in the 50's same story in oakland where as you can see san jose livermore, concord, santa rosa, all in the 70's at this hour, half moon bay, the coast dealing with marine

layer there at about 54. so this is a live look from mount tam. and you can see that marine layer still very present in some spots, but we should get some nice sunshine everywhere, except the coast today. tomorrow, more of the same. and then by wednesday, we're actually gonna start pushing these temperatures up a little higher. so kathryn mentioned some severe weather over the weekend meeting. some tornadoes last counter saw were 21 deaths. it was in parts of texas, oklahoma and arkansas. you can see tex today. this is dealing with heat. these are heat advisories and warnings and they're expecting about 97 degrees in houston. as far as severe weather goes, we do have severe thunderstorm watches and warnings. you can see here in parts georgia just south of the section of the edge of alabama heading into georgia. and that's a severe thunderstorm warning and they go right on up the coast here. this biggest line kind of going for the mid atlantic through the northeast. and that's expected to last about 9 o'clock tonight. now, these are not tornado watches. they are severe thunderstorm watches, but of course, that's the precursor to storms that can have ridge haitian. so something to keep an eye on. and again, you can see these

very heavy showers that are rolling through right now in parts of upstate new york. unfortunately tomorrow, more severe weather meeting, the possibility for tornadoes expected again in some of the same parts of the country where we dealt with this over the weekend where we have the weekend where we have those fatalities. so i been a very quick start to the season and you can see on average so many tornadoes per month we get in may and where they're located. and this really continues through june into july. it isn't until august that you start to see those chances start to ramp down. so a tough run of weather for them. back to you. thank you. kyla. on this memorial day, we are honoring the sacrifice and bravery of a 2 groups of americans connected to world war. 2. >> news nation's nichole berlie has that story. >> this year is also a good time to recognize and remember to specific groups of americans, some of them still living whose contributions at home and abroad during world war 2 helped deliver victory over not to germany. one of those groups, a collection of women who stepped up to fill a

that marine layer back to a storm tracker 4 now showing that we're starting to get a little bit of a break as a kind of peels away from spots inland. but it does still cling to parts of the peninsula. and also, you know, really just right along the coast is where you see it the as we take a look at the fog cast. don't really lose it completely. for those of you at the coast today. but we do start to see a rebuild as we get into tonight. and we're in this very typical bay area pattern will wake up tomorrow morning again with the marine layer start to see it kind of pull back and give a sunshine in the afternoon and then rinse, repeat, as we go through the week, the only difference here is temperature-wise. we are going to see high pressure bump in a little bit more and help us to warm up a bit as we get into our thursday and friday in particular. so today, tomorrow, very similar. we're looking at livermore's example here. notice temperatures start to up on wednesday by thursday into friday. we're well above average, which would be about 77 this time of year. we're going 10 degrees above that and then we'll pull back a little bit as we get to the weekend. but that warm up.
