tonight after a deadly crash over the weekend on highway one in san mateo county. yeah, the victim in this crash was 28 year-old joaquin dominic. >> jimenez alvarado. he's the son of half moon bay mayor joaquin jimenez, friends and family gathered to remember him. kron four's jack moment reports. >> remembering someone gone

cleared the scene and traffic is moving again. the crash happened at montague expressway toll avenue around 2 o'clock this afternoon. as you saw on the video sedan crashed into the back of a large truck. the truck driver of the sedan is dead. the incident did shut down all lanes of westbound montague expressway from 8.82 macarthur boulevard for several hours today. again, however, the crash scene has been cleared. the road is now back open. police tonight continue their investigation into a belmont park. homicide. >> police say the 27 year-old victim was fatally shot around 8 o'clock saturday night near irwin and hillary streets just off 101 year. o'donnell park. the victim was shot multiple times and died at the scene. we spoke with a neighbor who lives in the area. skating and shocking. yeah. >> have you know, we've got a family. i have do kids. i have a son and a daughter and to the mostly be in you know, evening in the night. but the

walks park you're going to look so it is getting to, you come to know that the day has been on site. >> thelma police are asking residents in the area for any home surveillance video that could help with the investigation. >> in marin bochy ball tournament continued yesterday despite a person being shot outside, the sandra fell facility just the day before workers at marin bochy tell us at least 6 cars most belonging to the players were damaged after a shooting broke out at the intersection of ross and e streets on saturday as the bochy ball game was going on. workers say 2 men got out of a car and fired shots at other people nearby. police say one person was shot in the stomach. they were taken to the hospital. the victims expected to survive the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. as state lawmakers work to move bills through the legislative process. some members of the assembly and senate are hoping

to advanced proposed reparations for descendants of enslaved black americans. alright, capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports on which bills made it through so far and which failed to advance. >> well, it's been mixed results for reparations bill so far. but back into the propesals, tell me they believe they're off to a good start. >> the standing ovation in the state assembly after lawmakers voted 62 to nothing to advance a reparations bill calling on the state of california to publish a formal apology letter to descendants of enslaved black americans. the most important thing making sure we can we get it out there. south los angeles, a someone member ready, john sawyer authored the legislation while he acknowledges california was never formally a slave state. he says since its inception in 18, 50, the state has implemented policies negatively impacting black californians to this day noting california's first governor peter burnett was a slave owner from the south to openly called for creating a whites only american west and

helped put in place. a lot 10 slaves back to the south. if they fled a not only talking about elephants, complicity chattel slavery. but making sure that california actually east apologizes for what has happened not to make anyone feel guilty. >> but to be served at healing other reparations bills advancing include one requiring grocery stores to provide advance notice before closing down in underserved communities. >> and a proposal by senator steven bradford to formally create what would be called to the california american freeman affairs agency in charge of overseeing the reparations process in the state of california. critically important. >> for setting up the framework for reparations going forward. think we have a good foundation work from but several reparations related bills did not make it, including bradford's proposal to fund housing and property tax assistance for descendants of enslaved black americans. i disappointment reparations about. >> when that's why we build

generational wealth in this country african-americans have been denied. >> ownership to redlining restrictive covenants, all kind of other restrictions not included in any of the reparations bills this year, direct cash payments. democratic leaders overseeing the state budget they would have liked to advance more reparations bills, but they add it just would have been too costly as the state faces a projected multibillion-dollar deficit. it's just a challenging budget time. and so we need to be responsible. >> responsible taxpayers money. so that's why we had to news. to some developing news now in the war between israel and hamas. the white house responding to the deadly air strike in rafah. >> killing at least 45 people and a tent camp. the white house national secretary council spokesperson writing in part, quote, israel has a right to go after hamas. and

we understand the strike killed 2 senior hamas terrorists who are responsible for attacks against israeli civilians. but as we've been clear, israel must take every precaution possible to protect civilians and, quote, israel's prime minister is calling it a tragic mistake with an investigation now underway as to what prompted this recent strike. powerful storms across texas, oklahoma and arkansas is killing at least 21 people this weekend. >> video showing just some of the destruction left behind after a tornado plowed through cook county, texas, near the oklahoma border. texas governor greg abbott confirming at least 100 people injured and nearly 400 homes damaged. the deadly storm touched down near a mobile home park, killing 7, including a 2, 5, year-old the severe weather coming in. so quickly. 50 people rode out the storm in a texas truck. stop bathroom. the storm showing the roof and walls off of that building. in oklahoma.

at least 2 people were killed and multiple others hurt after the powerful storm swept through an outdoor wedding. and in arkansas, 5 were killed in the severe weather, including a 26 year-old woman who was found dead outside of a destroyed home. you can see just some of the damage here and the storm threats are still not over more than 110 million americans are under threat of large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes today. that's one in 3 americans. >> this all comes as the national oceanic and atmospheric administration is predicting 17 to 25 storms with winds of at least 39 miles per hour for the remainder of this year. about 7 of those storms could turn into category 3 hurricanes with winds above 100 miles per hour. the administration says the predicted storms are result of record-high ocean heat and led the nyet weather patterns in the pacific kron four's lawrence karnow was just telling us all about this and talking about what's

predicted for this summer. yeah. hurricane season beginning in june, the waters are running very, very warm. just getting over in el nino then and now we've got what's called la nina settling in. that means the winds up above. >> are going to be blowing very lightly is kind of ironic. the most powerful storms in the world needs some very easy conditions for them to get going. but the forecast is for an extremely active hurricane season. so a june hurricane season begins the path is only upward from. they're really picking up. but we could see an early uptick in storms as the water is already running a more like what you'd see almost in the middle of the season now. so we may see an earlier uptick in the amount of hurricane activity out there, a generally september 11th. that is the peak of hurricane season. but that last all the way until the end of november. here's a look at some of the names that you're likely see. but with the amount of storms are going to be named, we may actually run out of names this year is we're going to get right to the whole list. but the first named storm in the atlantic could soon as it

becomes a tropical storm will be called alberto that season. not all that far away. well, we continue to see a very active storm season across the country tornadoes. a very common this year on average. usually about 700 or so this time of year. now we're already upwards of 900 and we're not done by any means. back another active day. you can see all those storms rolling in behind all those tornadoes all the way from texas stretching toward the eastern seaboard. well, we've got more activity out there tonight. things just beginning to settle down. still a tornado watch in effect, as you make your way toward the east coast. some very strong storms rolling through there right now. otherwise the activity is going to shift to the south. that's very strong storms. again, likely to move into texas could be another round of not only heavy rain, maybe more tornadic activity there. and it is already been one for the record books across the country and looks like tomorrow will be another run of some strong storms in se. i feel like for entire month of may. we've been talking about these damaging tornadoes. yeah, this is really the peak of her of

tornado season, right? okay. this year, boy, it's been going on for about the last month and a half so. >> yeah. and you just got to feel for those people in those storms roll through. they just wiped everything out. and now with this prediction of the hurricanes season ahead. thank you. >> as the weather warms up, blue whales are starting to migrate north from mexico for their summer feeding season tour guide say they've and spotting a number of these beautiful endangered whales along the california coast. over the last 2 weeks, the mammals can grow up to 110 feet long and the can reach a weight of 200 tons. experts are hoping they will stick around through the month of july that such a beautiful site there. >> well, still to come on, kron, 4 news at 6 a summer reading program is coming back to the east bay and there are prizes involved. and next in sports, the giants were back at oracle today hosting the nl east leading phillies. kate rooney has highlights and reaction after the break.

phillies. 8 to 4 now. blake snell didn't have the best outing today, but he said he's happy to see his team's recent offensive success. >> last time, you know, have a lot of success >> another one of the most unique voices in sports has left bill walton passed away today at the age of 71. the today at the age of 71. the nba released a statemen saying that he experienced a long battle with cancer. walton was known not just for his legendary basketball career hall of famer 2 time nba champ all-star dozens of on court accolades. but in recent years, a new generation learned to love him for his larger than life personality

and infectious enthusiasm as analyst calling games for espn pac, 12 network and others. the tributes rolled all day. steph curry honored walton and instagram post saying rip to a legend on and off the court. you might hear it all the time, but he always brought the best energy and humanity to every room he walked into true definition of living his values always with a smile, prayers to the entire walton family. and the warriors also set out a statement from steve kerr. bill walton was a legendary player. a hilarious colorful broadcaster. and most of all, a wonderful person. i fell in love with basketball watching bill dominated ucla in front of packed crowds at pauley pavilion and i was blessed to get to know him later in our lives. when he covered the nba as an analyst on tv, most of all, i will cherish getting to know him when he would visit the warriors with his son. luke, who was on our coaching staff, his incredible energy passion. love and zest for life was never turned off. our hearts are broken today as we mourn bills passing and grieve with

lawrence likes to say, there. >> make their way over the hills. pretty nice view out there lawrence gorgeous out there around the bay area on this memorial day weekend. and yeah, it looks like more of that fog on the way tonight. no getting around that. you see it. >> making its way through the golden gate bridge as we speak. so, yeah, we're going to feel the cool weather along the coastline here. the forecast temperatures for tomorrow afternoon 50's into much of san francisco. cool right in the sunset, though. you see that fog lingering along the coastline. maybe some mid 50's there up toward the beaches. so if you're headed that direction, it will be on the cool side to get inside the base in a little more sun. so these numbers running a little bit below the average down the peninsula, warm things up. 65 degrees in palo alto about 68 mount to the south. a very comfortable tomorrow afternoon, commissioner 60's and some 70's out there may be as warm a 75 degrees in morgan hill. get to the east bay. those temperatures moving up the 80's, the warm spots there. so i think things are going to work out very well. a very nice summer, like pattern beginning to settle itself in here. fact, as we get toward the weekend, well, we're going
