police responded to the scene shortly after 6 o'clock tonight. >> a suspect is now in custody. this all taking place on north 20th street just a block away from san jose high school. we know heavy police presence remains in the area. kron four's jack moment. reports from the scene. >> well, neighbors tell us they heard more than 6 shots fired around 5.50, on monday evening right here on 20th street in san jose. police say they responded just shortly after 6 pm. now, meantime, this is supposed to be a holiday weekend, which families can be together. but as one san jose police officer put it on his way out, he called this incident, quote, family problems too. police say they responded shortly after 6 to reports of the shooting. they found a suspect barricaded in the home. more than 2 hours later is when our cameras were there to show police taking someone out of the home in a gurney. and officer told me more than 100 officers were here as they waited for the suspect and they are now investigating this as a homicide. neighbors say the people living in that home where a mom in her 50's

and a son in his 20's. now police say they will remain on scene here on 20th street for hours investigating this possible shooting. they call it now. meantime, they also say that a motive or factors leading up to this incident are still unknown reporting in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. >> and conquered. police responded to 2 separate barricaded situations within just minutes from each other. tonight, people in both incidents have been detained. kron 4 sarah stinson reports those details. a busy night for concord police. 2 separate scenes with a barricaded suspect here on saint francis drive. a shelter-in-place has been lifted, but investigators are still trying to figure out what happened here on rose brook court. police got called to a home here just off of kowal road around 6 o'clock. police say a mom lives there with her 3 daughters and a neighbor came over krmed with a gun, threatening them. the family ran out of the home. they fully they are safe. they

called police officers on scene. then heard gunshots coming from inside the home. >> that's when they put a shelter-in-place for people who live nearby. police were making a plan to get the man out safely when he came out on his own around 8 o'clock, he was armed with a gun. he was then brought into custody. i'm told the man arrested is 47 year-old christian stewart and police are trying to figure out what his motive was drugs and alcohol involved. meanwhile, officers were also at the scene of another barricaded suspect in an apartment complex on detroit avenue. this scene started around 3 o'clock in the afternoon when neighbors called police saying a man was screaming acting crazy with a blowtorch and waving knives around. police responded and learned the man had been evicted from this apartment a couple of weeks ago and he returned and broke into that unit. police spent hours with a crisis negotiator trying to get him out. a police dog was used to get the man in

custody. officers say he was bit by a dog around 8 o'clock tonight and brought to a hospital with minor injuries. police say 35 year-old ahmed davis will be booked into jail afterwards. we saw officers going door to door here on roseburg court, trying to talk with neighbors about what happened. police say a lot more to come with their investigation. i'm sara stinson reporting in concord kron. 4 news. >> a driver is dead tonight after a car got pinned underneath the truck. it happened in san jose this afternoon on the corner of montague expressway and o toole avenue. the cause is under investigation but people who work near the intersection say they seem drivers here travel fast and recklessly. >> i know that this is very dangerous because i usually walk to catch another bus when there's no route here and i feel kind of and say, you know what i'm doing to cross road. so cars are coming really fast. >> police plan to offer more details on this crash tomorrow.

>> taking a live look outside at the bay bridge toll plaza tonight as the memorial day weekend. >> comes to a close. chp maximum enforcement period will also be ending within the hour. it started 6 o'clock friday evening. chp is expected to release arrest and dui numbers in the coming days. meanwhile, people who are flying back home have run into some delays. a few travelers san jose international airport this evening said their flight had been delayed for about an hour tonight. they say it was more manageable, though, than the delay they had to deal with for their flight to portland from san jose just a few days ago, we got told hour before late. >> and that was almost 3 delay. so we got to where 3, 4, in the morning. have long i long delay, you when you've got new during that well, just. >> airport with little ones, you i mean, it was a goal to

little year the little line trouble it like 3 in the morning. and then there's like nothing that like nothing's open and you're like what? they're going get them. >> according to flightaware, there have been just 2 flights delayed today out of san jose airport. the airport has the memorial day holiday travel period, running through the end of the month. so we'll see just how many made their way through come first, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here with more on our weather forecast. the end of the month warrants. the fog is really intense tonight. yes, certainly is racing back on shore as we speak, filling in the bay bounce up against bay hills. >> won't be long. it's going to fill in all the valleys overnight tonight. and that's why we'll start out your day tomorrow. plenty of fog out there now over san francisco, probably couple patches, drizzle beginning to fall as well. temperatures out the door. you can see the marine air is working its way well inland. the temperatures very similar in most spots. the exception of 64 degrees in

antioch. still stay away from that marine air as you make your way into the central valley. but that sea breeze have been blowing this afternoon. some of those gusts up to 30 miles an hour has backed off just a little bit. now a little breezy in spots, but overall, low clouds and fog going to be the story in the coming days. but the sierra nevada still see some thunderstorms in the afternoon. that's something to watch out for as watch it play out in the afternoon hours in the next couple of days. but the fog along the coastline that keep you cool out toward the beaches. high-pressure trying to hold on. but we got a front that's rolling over the top of that's going to flat out the ridge a little bit tomorrow. i still think it's gonna stay warm in many spots inland. a little cool out toward the beaches. so plan on 60's and some cool fog make sure son in the san francisco. 66 and sunny in oakland. 73 warm in san jose. >> investigators in vallejo say a man is dead after trying to save his dog in a mobile home fire. the fire sparked sunday afternoon on carolina

and 12 in the streets just blocks away from the solano county superior court crews say they rescued the man who later died in the hospital. unfortunately, his dog also died in the fire. the cause of the blaze is under investigation. >> scott peterson, the man convicted of killing his wife, laci, is set to appear in court via zoom tomorrow. his defense team, los angeles innocence project has been trying to get him a new trial by gathering some new evidence they want to dna test a rope and a stolen van burned near the peterson's home around the time. his wife laci went missing. but the stanislaw county district attorney's office is set to be opposing that motion. many gathered to pay their respects in san francisco's national cemetery. this memorial day. >> every year, 30,000 flags are placed on graves. former house speaker nancy pelosi says we should not only remember those who died, but also try to build a better world in their memory. so we

who died while serving their parades like the one held in hillsborough happen in cities all across the u.s. monday. memorial day celebrations with marching bands and onlookers. but most importantly, veterans men and women in uniform who help remind us to honor the heroes who died while serving their country. >> it's why navy veteran louis ross and others gathered on the uss hornet in alameda knowing that we are respected. and what we did is respected. that sentiment also ran true in san jose for memorial day ceremony at oak hill memorial park. tyler where major robert adam patterson with the united states marine corps, read the names of fallen soldiers. john maloney to water them. remind us the cost of freedom is one day out of the year that we citizens and those privileged enough to be here. >> homage to those who gave their lives for our freedom and for our way of life.

>> oakland fire crews are still cleaning up after a massive fire broke out at a lumber yard last night. the flames destroyed a portion of oakland's economy, lumber company. >> kron four's lezla gooden shows us the extent of the damage is yeah, that's right. nearly 80 firefighters respond to this fire at the lumber yard around 8 o'clock last night. now crews were >> able to eventually put the flames out. but right now there are still working on certain parts of this property. >> flames filled the skies

sunday night around the lumber company off of interstate 80 in oakland. while no one was injured, the fire spread quickly and ended up destroying at least one building has a large footprint so tight. it's showroom. it's administrative offices. >> a warehouse and then a large lumber yard outside full of for what? so it burned for several hours. michael hunt with the oakland fire department says crews initially struggled gaining access to the lumber yard and the surrounding area property. >> sits the border. the borders are railroad we could put all we can bring was hose lines on the railroad track put. on one side of the property and the high street also borders. it's getting apparatus into the property was a challenge. fire crews were out on the scene all day monday working with the owners to go through the property for any additional hot spot excavation crews, the heavy equipment operators assistant to the park property at

officially. make sure that any flare ups are being quickly extinguished throughout the process. all of the parking structure that need to to be demolished last night. you know, there were several small recant goals which were quickly unit. >> and officials say it's still not clear at the fire started inside or outside of this property. and this remains as an open investigation reporting in studio going kron 4 news. >> 50 senior residents and their pets still can't go back home tonight after being forced to evacuate over the weekend. it was because of this bathroom tub found to be overflowing with black water on the second floor of their building. this was at the senior care facility on carroll lane and oakley officials say the liquid in the tub appeared to be a mixture of substances, but exactly what it was remains a mystery. the liquid made its way down the hall to the building's main electrical room, which caused chaos for the residents, medical personnel and fire officials were called to the scene along

terrorists. white house national security spokesperson says israel has a right to go after hamas, but they must take every precaution possible to protect civilians. israel's prime minister calling it a tragic mistake with an investigation now underway. santa clara county nurses have reached a tentative deal with county leaders for months, nurses and the county were at odds over raises and worker safety. >> the union voted to ratify the deal. that includes a 15% raise over 4 years is set to go before the board of supervisors next week. in napa truck caught on fire just off of crews canyon road. firefighters quickly put out the flames before they could spread to the surrounding area. >> let's get your check of your 4 zone forecast. taking a live look at sfo tonight where we know there is lots of fog. spend the hanging out today

and kron four's chief meteorologist and scar. now, you know, i was just >> caught up in that beautiful all i can do it and you watch a rolling onshore sometime very fast-moving the we've got more of that on the way. don't worry. you can see plenty of fog in the days ahead as we're going to see a nice summer full of it. >> i'm quite certain out there right now. you can see from our mount tam cam looking down below the cloud deck. continue to stream on shore deep enough already bounce up against the east bay hills over the golden gate bridge right now, couple patches of drizzle likely as we head through the night tonight into tomorrow morning to go along with that. temperatures today. yeah, we had to write about the average in the san francisco 63 degrees. 67 degrees in oakland. a little warmer in the san jose. it 70 80 degrees and live more 81 in concord. very pleasant. 78 degrees in santa rosa today. but we may actually see these temperatures get a little hotter as we get toward latter part of the week. but tonight, the clouds surging back on shore tomorrow morning. clouds becoming mostly sunny as we head toward the middle of the day. and then little later this week. yeah, that summer pattern kind of settling in

that makes for that cool fall along the coastline and the temps start to get a in some spots inland out there right now. you can see the fog along the coastline right now, some thunderstorms up over the sierra nevada. one more cold front to come right on the gulf of alaska. this is going flatten out that ridge of high pressure over the next day or so. that will keep the temperatures down just a little bit. but once that moves on through high pressure building in the temperatures are going to start to warm up tonight. the clouds rolling on in as we head toward early tomorrow morning. if you're headed out plan on some gray skies early, then by the middle of the day, we start to clear things out and looks like a nice day for a walk at lunchtime. if you want to get out and enjoy some sunshine. the fog, though, kind of hugging the coast, probably going to stick around there. the better part of the day before moving back onshore again. temperatures looking like this tomorrow in san francisco. we've got some 50's and some low 60's patchy fog breezy in the afternoon, probably lingering clouds up toward the sunset tomorrow long the could media coastline. the temperatures staying cool. you see that cool fog there to 50's and breezy along the immediate coast as you get inside the bay a little bit warmer, but certainly mild temperatures are cool in spots but warming

up as you head down the peninsula. 64 degrees in san carlos about 64. also woodside and 68 mount. you south, enjoying nice temperatures should see a lot of 70's by tomorrow afternoon. should be beautiful weather in the santa clara valley. very comfortable. then, you know, the east bay hills that's where we see those temperatures warming up in a hurry. so you look at about 82 in dublin. 83 in pleasanton about 84 degrees in little more. you get back inside the bay. you're watching temperatures a pretty comfortable in the mid 60's and that's what's going to play out. and as we head toward what looks like a warmer pattern here, the next couple days, at least through thursday and friday before you cooling down over the weekend. all right. here's your seven-day forecast next. couple days. not bad. then that front moves by. that's when those temperatures pop back up thursday and friday, you're going to be hot inland, cool 60's out toward the coastline. and guess what? we've got some more of that mesmerizing fog rolling back on saturday and sunday. you just see kind of way in between all are it is pretty cool. can't keep it away. yeah, thanks, lauren. right. >> i was a special day for san

francisco icon karl. the fog loves to visit the golden gate bridge turned 87 years old today. pretty cool. happy birthday on this day. in 1937, the bridge open to the public for the first time it was under construction for 4 years connecting marin county to san francisco and the peninsula. streams walked across it on the very first day before it opened up to cars. >> i think in golden gate bridge. >> coming up next in sports, the giants were back at oracle today hosting the nl east leading phillies. kate rooney has highlights and reaction after the break.

for his legendary basketball career and it was legendary hall of famer 2 time nba champ all-star dozens of on-court accolades. but in recent years, a new generation learned to love him for his larger than life personality and infectious enthusiasm. as an analyst, he called games for espn pac 12 network and many others. the tributes rolled in all day. steph curry among those honoring walton in an instagram post. he wrote rip to a legend on and off the court. you might hear it all the time, but he always brought the best energy and humanity to every room he walked into true definition of living his values always with a smile, prayers to the entire walton family. so truly living legend. just a ball. i mean, we supporting the popcorn. there has commentator district all sorts of. so he just really had a zest for life earlier this evening, played a bunch of different clips of him. he playing music and all of grateful dead fan like 250
