little nicer, right? and today is tuesday. just blasted right past monday. we're looking outside at a lot of fog out there, though, and more so than we side yesterday. so as you're getting back to work. >> is kind of the view that you're getting out into for most of us anyway. it's a lot of low cloud cover and some pretty dense marine layer out there. good news is that sitting above most of us right now. so visibility has improved. we saw a little mist and drizzle at the coast as a result of that. but nothing much else. now winds are going to stay very steady today. and at times 30 to 40 miles per hour, gusts can be expected. so that sea breeze is really going to sweep across the bay and result in that ocean. cool there, keeping all of us a little cooler than average for this time of year. right now we're sitting anywhere from the 40's and timber on in pacifica to the low 60's in spots like vacaville in pittsburgh later today, maxing out in the 70's for most areas right now. all right, john, thank you for that month. busier today than we were yesterday. quiet yesterday. >> on our highways and bridges. and as you can see,

make your way into the city this morning, a 19 minute ride. so the metering lights of in slowing folks down there. nearly 30 across the san mateo bridge, slower long, 8.80, getting on and off that on 101 or it was ever feel bridge 14 minutes and the golden gate bridge. 37 of the tolls. 1, starting to slow down up there. a 40 minute ride. 37 to the tolls are james. back to you. thank you. reyna do one. and developing news now. police are investigating what happened at a home in san jose where a woman was found dead. police say they do have a suspect in custody. kron four's will tran is following the story for us from. >> the scene will. >> this scene is close to wrapping up 12 hours after the suspectlgave himself up to police officers right over my left shoulder. the coroner's office has just arrived and they are ready to remove the body that was found inside the home. it was a woman. her name not be released to the public at this particular time. but it is believed that the

suspect and the woman were familiar with each other. let me show you the video. get you a little bit closer to the scene. this actually went down at around 6.30, last night when police officers from san jose got a call about shots being fired when they got to this location and it's just off of julian in washington. they got to this location. they tried talk to the suspect making arrests, but the suspect barricaded him since self inside the home and refused to give rather than going in there, of course, but their own safety. they called out negotiators. negotiators spent 2 and half hours talking to this particular person. then at around 8.30, the suspect gave himself up peacefully and was arrested. that's when they went inside the home and realized that there was a woman dead from her injuries at this particular point. they don't know exactly what happened. the motive, but they were here and obviously still here. and

we're talking now about 14 hours after this all started because they had to do their investigation. talk to witnesses, collect evidence. james story. i saw so many investigators walked in and out. looks like he's getting close to wrapping up as the coroner's office just took their gurney inside the house. they are ready to remove the body, take it away. and that is important because it will be the coroner's office to make the identification of this woman. as far as the suspect. we don't have his name at this particular time. back to all right. thank you. will. >> 803. we want to show you the scene of an accident where a driver was killed. penn under a truck and the car that you see there the whole front and is just list and stuck under that truck. this happened yesterday afternoon in san jose. the corner montague expressway and o toole avenue. they're not sure how and why that car ended up the way it did. the people who work in this area say that they've often seen drivers

going way too fast and driving recklessly. >> i know that this is 3 they saw very dangerous because usually walk to catch another bus when there's no route here and i feel kind of and say, you know what i'm doing to cross road. so cars are coming really fast. >> police plan to give some more details on what they've learned in their investigation later today. >> developing news, police say at least 5 people, including a teenager, were shot in sacramento. police say this happened shortly after 8 o'clock last night. this was in the south sacramento area. officers say those 5 victims. we're standing outside of an apartment complex when they were hit by gunfire. they are all expected to survive. so that's the good officers haven't yet. what led up to that shooting, though? >> are big message. is that that you saw something or heard something to please let us know, help us find individuals responsible for this. there's a lot of people that were involved in the shooting we're not sure of all the facts circumstances surrounding this incident, what led up to the shooting. but there are a lot of people that were injured in this and

we need to make sure that they receive justice. >> so this will be a complicated investigation. police say one of the shooting victims is a teenage girl and then there were 3 men and a woman that were also hurt. >> time now is 805. and police in concord rid. they responded to 2 separate situations where people were barricaded in within minutes of each other. yeah. police in both incidents say that the suspects have been detained. kron 4 sarah stinson explains what happened. >> a busy night for concord police. 2 separate scenes with a barricaded suspect here on saint francis drive. a shelter-in-place has been lifted but investigators are still trying to figure out what happened here on rose brook court. police got called to a home here just off of kowal road around 6 o'clock. police say a mom lives there with her 3 daughters and a neighbor came over armed with a gun, threatening them. the family ran out of the home. they fully they are safe. they

called police officers on scene. then heard gunshots coming from inside the home. that's when they put a shelter-in-place for people who live nearby. police were making a plan to get the man out safely when he came out on his own around 8 o'clock, he was armed with a gun. he was then brought into custody. i'm told the man arrested is 47 year-old christian stewart and police are trying to figure out what his motive was drugs and alcohol involved. meanwhile, officers were also at the scene of another barricaded suspect in an apartment complex on detroit avenue. this scene started around 3 o'clock in the afternoon when neighbors called police saying a man was screaming acting crazy with a blowtorch and waving knives around. police responded and learned the man had been evicted from this apartment a couple of weeks ago and he returned and broke into that unit. police spent hours with a crisis negotiator trying to get him out. a police dog was used to get the man in

custody. officers say he was bit by a dog around 8 o'clock tonight and brought to a hospital with minor injuries. police say 35 year-old ahmed davis will be booked into jail afterwards. we saw officers going door to door here on roseburg court, trying to talk with neighbors about what happened. police say a lot more to come with their investigation. i'm sara stinson reporting in concord kron. 4 news. >> well, palestinians have gathered last night in the east bay organizations calling for a cease-fire in the middle east. they put together this vigil at lake merritt, the amphitheater there in oakland, last night's event was called all eyes on rafah following an israeli air strike that killed at least 45 people at a tent encampment sunday night. now, 2 of those people killed were in fact, hamas terrorists. the white house, the national security, spokesperson said that israel does have the right to go after hamas, although they caution that they need to take every precaution possible to protect civilians. now on israel's

part, the prime minister is calling this a tragic mistake and that an investigation is now underway. it's 808, and a memorial day was a day of solemn reflection and honoring those who lost their lives and paid the ultimate price. yeah, we saw a number of events. >> throughout the bay area where people came together again to honor those. >> kron four's rob nesbitt has more. >> memorial day is a federal holiday that gives many the day off from school and work. but you can't forget what really stands for to honor the members of the u.s. military who died while serving their parades like the one held in hillsborough happen in cities all across the u.s. monday memorial day celebrations with marching bands and onlookers. but most importantly, veterans men and women in uniform who help remind us to honor the heroes who died while serving their country. >> it's why navy veteran louis ross and others gathered on the uss hornet in alameda knowing that we are respected. and what we did is respected.

>> 8.13, is the time right now. and we are looking at blue whales that are starting now to migrate north from mexico. isn't this cool? i love seeing this tour guides say they've spotted a number on these beautiful endangered whales all along the california coast in the last couple of weeks. i've been looking, but i haven't the lines in and steals. but wales, they grow up to 110 feet long and they could be 200 tons at a high and their big i'm sure i'm going to see i keep looking like i we just did. saw them going by and crab season was delayed because we're waiting for them to all clear out and had the alaskan out. >> go by our use. is that what

wind pushing in across the region is going contribute to the ocean. cool there. >> pushing all the way inland today. high pressure builds in more and more later this forecast. kinda cutting off that marine access in our inland temperatures will really start to climb, especially towards thursday and friday today are dense. this marine layer little bit more shallow tomorrow. so will burn off quicker during the morning as we move into thursday and friday. as i mentioned, the hottest days of the forecast today, though, well, below average temperatures yet again and in many cases, even a little bit cooler than yesterday was 50's and 60's at the coastline and then 60's to 70's for most of the rest of us south bay temps. yet another comfortable one. san jose. a nice 76 today looking at 17 spots like fremont's dublin as well. san ramon while oakland in castro valley comparable to that at 67, only a few low 80's, antioch, vacaville youngsville and santa rosa. looking ahead, temperatures tomorrow will be just a little bit warmer thursday friday, really bringing the heat with your

t-shirt, blue gym shorts, grey sox and blue running shoes. if you any idea where he is call again, newark police. >> to san jose city council members commanding the city audit its spending on homeless services. this after a state audit found in april, the city spent more than 300 million dollars on its homeless response. council members bn don't and arjun batra want look. how much money is divided into removing encampments and temporary housing. the california state auditor found the city could not identify the money that it spent on homeless support. nor does it adequately measure the effectiveness of its systems. the report also says the city lacks enough interim or permanent housing to keep up with demand. san jose has until september to begin publicly reporting the data and to build a plan on how they're going to address homelessness. have an update now on fiji. water recall

70,000 cases of fiji, water bottles recalled because of contamination concerns and now. let me put it this way. there are a little less concerned about little duty if you do happen to drink it. the recall of the fiji, natural artisan water bottle started in march and it issue was 3 types of bacteria that were discovered initially authorities said you should not drink that water. you should return it for a refund. but now the fda has downgraded the danger posed by this fiji. water saying it's not likely to cause adverse health consequences, the affected bottles. what we're talking about were only sold between february first and march 3rd of this year. >> for your health this morning, california now witnessing another surge in covid-19, cases driven by the emergence of 2 new subvariants of the virus. so these 2 new subvariants collectively have been nicknamed flirt and they're increasingly becoming more prevalent. then the winters dominant strain

causing concern now about a possible summer uptick in infections. flirt now counts for more than half of the infections nationwide. the new mutations don't appear to result in more severe disease. but are more transmissible than the winter strain. so can spread more easily. experts say the current vaccine is expected to continue working well against this new strains. there's only some slight differences from the winter variants. so you should be ok so long as you're up on your booster shots. happening today, assembly member matt haney plans to announce a bill that aims to remove cancerous chemicals that have been found in firefighters. uniforms. so according to the bill forever, chemicals are found in uniforms and they are known to be carcinogens. previous studies have linked the cancer or the chemicals to cancer and other serious health effects. they also found exposure to them leads to higher rates of cancer among firefighters. if the bill passes, it would ban the chemicals from being used in firefighting gear starting july. first of 2026.

>> 25 right now in the north bay fairfield police are accusing a gift shop of being a front for criminal activity. they've been investigating the

field gift shop now for 6 months and they say the store advertise our advertises pipes. bongs clothing, shoes, candy, things like that. but after a search warrant was served. they arrested 2 men and they found illegal guns. marijuana, cocaine and a stolen dirt bike code enforcement. officials say they're implementing fines and recommending the shop's business license be revoked. >> wireless carrier, t-mobile says it's buying most of us cellular the deal is worth nearly 4 and a half billion dollars. t-mobile will acquire about 30% of u.s. cellular wireless spectrum as part of this deal. it also includes some stores and alerts customers. the company companies expect the deal to close by mid next year. so mid 2025 t-mobile merge with sprint back in 2020. that deal was worth about. 26 billion dollars. for your money this morning. it could be a sweltering summer for investors as the probability of a rate cut doesn't look all that probable anymore. it's

newsroom. michael. hey, good morning, everyone. will today's court hearing could essentially changed things and a federal judge is set to allow david up at the chance to speak this morning. >> which was originally not given a few weeks ago at path was sentenced earlier this month and was given the maximum prison sentence after being convicted of attempted to kidnap nancy pelosi from her san francisco home and for beating her husband, paul pelosi with a hammer in total. he would serve a 30 years behind bars. but being that the sentencing judge did make an error at the time when she failed to ask the pap if you wanted to make a statement this morning, that air is set to be corrected. take a listen to what our legal expert had to say on what could change in the future. >> whether he, in fact, has contrition. and then question will be if he expresses that to the court, will the court take that into consideration in reducing the are ready? given 30 years sends down? even if the pop says that he's

that was burned near the peterson home around the time that laci went missing. but the stance on county district attorney's office says that they are against this new testing. they say that there is nothing about the evidence that has changed and he was convicted. >> well, oakland, fire crews are still cleaning up now after a massive fire broke out at a lumber yard sunday night caused a lot of damage and economy lumber. let's take a closer look with lezla gooden. >> flames filled the skies sunday night around the lumber company off of interstate 80 e% in oakland. while no one was injured, the fire spread quickly and ended up destroying at least one building has a large footprint so tight. it's showroom. it's administrative offices. >> a warehouse and then a large lumber yard outside full of for what? so it burned for several hours. michael hunt with the oakland fire department says crews initially struggled gaining access to the lumber yard and the surrounding area property. >> sits the border. the borders are railroad we could

spending. >> it's called the taxpayer protection act and it would make it more difficult for state and local lawmakers to raise taxes. the ballot proposition would require two-thirds of voters to approve any city or state tax increase, but its currently being challenged right now in california supreme court by none other than governor newsom. he wants the justices to kill the proposition before it goes to the ballot. the state is arguing that this proposition would deny the government the money it needs for public safety or for fixing streets and other things. but supporters say taxpayers are in their words done, getting steamrolled by sacramento. >> the taxpayer protection act ensures that all new taxes have broad support from californians by empowering voters. >> well, the state supreme court asked to rule the next few weeks otherwise it will go to the ballot and voters could make that decision in november, potentially sending the state a message that that they've had enough, it's rare for courts to intervene before

a vote on a proposition that's already qualified for the ballot. so we'll see what they decide. opponents, though, worry that if it's passed, they won't be able to undo the damage. they believe it will due to city and state governments. >> and at the state capitol, some lawmakers are hoping to advance proposed reparations for descendants of enslaved black american. we have our capitol correspondent eytan wallace with more on the story. >> well, it's been mixed results for reparations bill so far. but back into the proposals, tell me they believe they're off to a good start. >> a standing ovation in the state assembly after lawmakers voted 62 to nothing to advance a reparations bill calling on the state of california to publish a formal apology letter to descendants of enslaved black americans. the most important thing making sure we can we get it out there. south los angeles, a someone member ready, john sawyer authored the legislation while he acknowledges california was never formally a slave state. he says since its inception in 18, 50, the state has implemented policies

intelligence. a survey by the national association of colleges and employers found hundreds of big companies plan to cut the amount of new grads they hired by nearly 6%. and that's because they're looking for people who have skills in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence field. eyes taking over some of the entry level jobs at new grads would have been hired for ironically, the need for computer science majors is cooling consulting and finance are also other recruiting areas that are being as well. >> for your money. but a new study is shedding some light on whether you want to continue working from home or go to the office. it turns out if you want a big raise in to move up the ladder, you may eventually have to go in. there's a study from the job listing site latter's dot com. and it says that high-paying remote and hybrid jobs have actually been less available and the pay is not as it was. they say that 90% of companies say they want their employees to be back in the office a

full 5 days a week by the end of this year. and according to bloomberg to name a few city, hsbc, barclays are requiring their employees net now to return the office. and here's another thing. remote jobs are still out there. you might be working. remote light right now and watching tv and kind of working. but a lot of companies are paying less for the remote jobs. and so you have to keep that in mind a quarter million dollars to 25. if you want to make $250,000 a year, there's about 4% of the jobs that make to 5250 grand a year. those are remote. a year ago. 10% of the remote jobs pay that. so you see there are fewer remote jobs pay that high and strategist says that if you really want to move up the career ladder that is going to be tied to in-person work. >> a lot of businesses organizations i've spoken with have actually really wrestled with the idea of promotions and growth within organizations.
