overall. >> efforts by the sheriff kron 4 news reached out to the alameda county sheriff for a statement but did not hear back. >> to recess stasio kron. 4 news. >> officials are looking for this man who they say escaped the san benito county correctional facility and hollister today. they say overnight inmate daniel zavala jumped over a barbed wire fence. he's about 6, 190 pounds as multiple tattoos, including some of scholes and women on both arms. the sheriff's office says of all associates with northern gang members and is charged on multiple felonies. >> to san jose city council members are demanding the city audit its spending on homeless services. this comes after a state audit found in april. the city spent more than 300 million dollars on its homeless response. council bn don't and our job entre want to look at how much money is divided into removing

encampments and temporary housing. the california state auditor found the city could not identify the money it spent on homeless support, nor does it adequately measure the effectiveness of its systems. the report also says the city lacks enough interim or permanent housing to keep up with demand. san jose has until september to begin publicly reporting data and to build a plan on how they will address homelessness. firefighters from across the state were at the state capitol today to urge support for a bill. >> that they say will protect them from cancer, causing chemicals. more than 70 firefighters joined san francisco assemblymember matt haney outside the state capitol this afternoon to speak in favor of his bill ab 24. 0, 8 if signed into law, the legislation would prohibit firefighter protective equipment from containing what have been described as cancer, causing chemicals often referred to as the facts us. >> the people who protect us need to be protected themselves. and right now

stormy daniels kron four's. catherine heenan is live in our newsroom this evening with details of what happened today. hike after happened today was hours and hours after. >> nearly 5 weeks of testimony, jurors had to sit through hours of closing arguments today about 3 hours from the defense even longer from prosecutors. another 5 hours they finally wrapped up for the night a little while ago. some legal analysts are suggesting the attorneys probably should have moved a lot faster as saying the jurors are probably at this point. in any event. it was a last chance for each side to sell their stories. >> leading by a lot. >> first step tuesday, the defense team which argued the criminal case against former president trump is built on lies, calling star witness michael cohen, a convicted felon and the greatest liar of

encampments across campuses. one member tells fox 40 this action adds insult to injury. the university institute a unilateral change to our workplace with policy discipline, which is in their purview to do. they need to bargain with us over that. so they instituted a policy that would affect all workers here at uc and so we are being affected by that. meanwhile, the university of california requested an injunction from the california public employment relations board to stop the strikes. we reached out to the uc office of the president for comments. they referred us to their previous statement. they say in part the university remains disappointed that the uaw is engaging in an illegal strike in violation of our contracts. mutually agreed. no strike clause is to advance issues that have no bearing on employment at u c. >> we are working with campus administrators to minimize disruption as much as possible and quote. >> meantime, the white house is condemning an israeli attack on in southern gaza

over the weekend that left dozens of civilians dead, including women and children. despite global outrage, the white house has said there would be no policy changes, at least for now. israeli officials insist the strike in rafah was targeted and eliminated to hamas. senior officials, however, a fire did erupt and quickly spread killing more than 40 people, including 8 children. israel is promising an investigation, but the u.s. says israel must do more to protect the lives of of palestinians. >> all seen images. there are heartbreaking. the horrific. but there should be no innocent life lost here. and as a result of this conflict. >> many international groups are demanding an immediate cease-fire. however, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is focused on eliminating all hamas targets. >> governor newsom is facing criticism over proposed budget cuts that some say will hurt thousands of undocumented californians who rely on

in-home support services. eytan wallace reports. >> well, the governor says he does not want to make these cuts but feels he has no other choice to help balance the budget. but advocates say they hope he reconsiders this program is a lifeline. panetta is talking about what's known as the state funded in-home supportive services program, also known as i h s s as the sounds the program helps pay for in-home assistance and care for eligible seniors. and california is living with disabilities, including my days legally blind mother developed. thanks to ihs a stellar receives funding, allowing her daughter to take care of her day in and day out at their home in madera. >> i am her supporter. you know who cooks cleans and provides daily existence. anything that you may need but funding she receives from the state to help care for her mother could soon be no more. >> that's because governor gavin newsom is proposing to cut about 94 million dollars from this specific part of the ihs as program that funds in-home supportive services for about 2,500 undocumented

californians, including a stella. if this program is taken away for undocumented recipients, it would be devastating news from many families because there isn't any other programs like a justice. >> many undocumented ucb it's would be left without any other alternatives being too potential health crisis. others in the in-home supportive care industry voicing outrage over the proposed cuts. is indefensible for governor newsom to eliminate services for population for no oth all human beings who deserve what health care. >> we have access regardless of immigration status for his part. governor newsom and his office have long said his proposed budget maintains the vast majority of funding for california's public health care medical program. >> and its services. his office referred us to be statement the governor made during his budget presentation earlier this month. >> indicating he would prefer not to make such cuts. but as the state faces a projected multi-billion dollar deficit,

you take a look right now, it's like it looks like a picture. you can just paint that if you are a great artist. on the other hand, if you go up to mount tam a pious, you see evidence that the wind is really whipping. that camera is dancing around is being buffeted by the winds. how strong are the winds now? well, they're holding steady at 24 sustained winds right through the golden gate. also pretty good winds coming through point rays. and what does that affect? of course, that effects the game giants versus phillies first pitch tonight at 6.45? not exactly a warm evening and certainly a breezy one by the 7th inning. it went from 59 at the first pitch down to 55 degrees. not a big change temperatures right now that we're quite toasty inland here in antioch. it's 82 degrees right now. 83 santa rosa. 73 napa. so it's a beautiful evening to the outside high pressure, as you can see is still in charge. the gold area of high pressure, the pacific high, which is typically a fixture for us through the summer time in this part of

the world. but low pressure is above and that's keeping the hat. the high pressure from getting too terribly strong in terms of temperatures. many, ana looking at numbers in the 50's and 60's when along the coast in the marina district. 71 degrees is the forecast and 50's like 56 degrees or so in elk are not a 59 and half moon bay and along the bay shoreline, not terribly warm, mainly in the 60's to get southward toward say woodside, 64 and then redwood city. 76 degrees. as you start to head south. naturally gets a little warmer. 80 from milpitas as you head toward the east bay, of course, warm there and livermore at 83 degrees. 86 in concord as you head up to the north bay. of course, it's warm that bill 92 degrees. napa. 81 87 is the forecast for santa rosa and 65 degrees. in point rays, a look ahead. we have a warming trend speaking thursday and friday still stays warm. temperatures

>> the city of saint landry is hosting its annual cherry festival and parade saturday. the tradition started way back in 19. 0, 9, and it includes a cherry pie baking contest and a cherry pie eating contest. the parade begins on parish street at 10:00am immediately after the festival will be held at historic downtown san leandro on west that avenue. and a major street in san jose is getting a new look today. hundreds of volunteers help paint a sidewalk near along san pedro street replacing existing blacktop. volunteers have been working on the mir all week with the final product spending 12,000 square feet. san jose blocked off the street to cars earlier this year. mayor matt mahan says it's part of an effort to
