on the job. i want this type of stuff to happen. i'm worth because they have to. >> you know, counties, young black men and then how many people they are aiming to do this to also that nobody knows about. >> dan kerman kron, 4 news. tonight. we've learned one of the pittsburgh police officers named in a civil rights lawsuit has been in trouble with the law before ashton porter was shot twice by officer ernesto mejia rosco while porter was having a mental health crisis at the hampton and suites in 2022, the lawsuit claims porter never charged at the officer with a knife as police reports suggest body camera footage also seems to debunk that claim the shots nearly killed the father of 6 in a separate case. mejia rosco was among several officers federally indicted last year for obstruction of justice, bribery and civil rights violations. >> i do showed up to the scene blood already on his hands because he choked someone just

several years before choked him to death just several years before this. and took him 2 years fighting this case to the court system to finally get the criminal charge dismissed. >> in porter's case, he spent more than a month in jail before eventually posting bail. porter's lawsuit seeks monetary damages and demands a jury trial. the city of pittsburgh, the police department and former chief have not responded to our requests for comment. >> one man is dead. another injured following a shooting in oakland. this is a video here from the citizen app. police say this happened around 7 o'clock last night on foothill boulevard in the 5.80, stanley exit. when officers arrived, they say they found one man who had been shot. he later died at the a second man then showed up to the hospital later on. that person is expected to be motive into the shooting is still being looked at. burglars took more than $30,000 worth of metals and industrial equipment from uc berkeley. police say the

speculation on what is happening in that jury room. >> the jury deliberation room has been called a black box. and no one knows what's going on in there. >> that's a retired trial judge. he is right. except we do know the jury now wants to rehear some of the testimony and some or all of the instructions. jurors want some of the testimony from former national enquirer publisher david packard to be read back, focusing on a 2015 trump tower meeting where packer agreed effectively to intercept negative stories for trump. they also want to hear star witness and former trump fixer, michael cohen's testimony about the same meeting. trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. prosecutors say he misrepresented hush money payments to cover up an affair with adult film. actress stormy daniels. trump denies the affair. the jury now has to decide whether

prosecutors prove their case. they're kind of probably have some dispute among themselves and they've got to resolve them. >> to reach a unanimous verdict. >> it only takes one holdout to complicate the case. a hung jury would lead to a mistrial. meantime, donald trump again began the day by criticizing the trial, but also taking a swipe robert de niro. the actor showed up outside the courthouse tuesday to blast trump. and you've got heckled by trump supporters. >> and then they have protested broken standing out there. you've he got got >> after jurors left for the day, the judge and the attorneys they had to stay behind for a while. they were detailing exactly what will be re read tomorrow. they had to agree on that. sounds like a big part of the day, in fact, could be spent in rehashing testimony and the

>> new today legislative leaders say they have reached a budget agreement. they vow will spare the state from major cuts to core programs. in a statement this afternoon

assembly speaker robert reed vest and senate president pro tem mike mcguire said they believe their proposed budget keeps the state on track to tackle a 45 billion dollar projected deficit while still maintaining key spending for housing and education. the proposal calls for more than 26 billion dollars in cuts over the next 2 years and maintains about half of the state's reserves. lawmakers say the state's rainy day fund has helped, but they acknowledge this is a tough budget year. >> we know the revenues generally coming in lower than the forecast and that's concerning. and so we are prepared for some very difficult choices >> you know, the governor made a quote a number months ago. i think what you know about a budget is a reflection of your priorities, right? and so i really do hope the governor proves that out. you know, for all californians. >> the assembly and senate budget committees are scheduled to review the proposed budget in the coming week. lawmakers have until june 15th to pass a fully

balanced budget. >> it was a contentious day. the state capitol as lawmakers take up a bill that would prohibit school districts from notifying parents if their children identify as transgender or come out as lgbtq+, capitol correspondent eytan wallace has a closer look at the bill and has reaction from supporters and opponents. >> well, emotions and passions certainly running high here at the state capitol. those on one side argue parents should absolutely be notified while those on the other side say doing so could put kids lives at risk. >> when you forcibly out a child, it harms them. parent christie hearst making that argument before the senate education committee. she's speaking out against policies requiring teachers and staff to notify parents upon learning their child identifies as transgender. >> what has come out as lgbtq+, this is harmful herself. a mother of 3 and co-founder of the nonprofit, our schools, usa first specifically came to the committee to urge members to support ab 1955. authored by

san diego assembly member chris ward. the legislation would prohibit school district enforcing and implementing lgbtq+ notification policies and would forbid teachers from outing children to their parents unless the child gives permission. far. 8 school districts in california have implemented such policies. it is a safety issue. these policies are. >> harming our students. and i know that because they reach out to me and they tell me and they tell me how unsafe they are. and in fact, it makes all lgbtqia kids and safe home and the time in the manner they choose to be able to disclose any part of their identity is theirs to own always. but this group disagrees. opponents of ab 1955. say school notification policies are necessary to ensure parents are kept in the know >> about their children. if you triangulate the parents. from what's happening in the school with the teachers in the school counselors. >> how can a parent care for their child opponents of such
