story this half-hour, federal officers with the alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives agency were in san francisco today providing critical incident training on use of force force. theresa is there to see firsthand this training in action. >> the use of force seminar took place here at the san francisco law enforcement regional training facility key component. was this going through different scenarios where subjects confront

officers and whether the use of force is allowed by law the same way. but this is different right? i was one of several media representatives that participated in drills and this scenario i was confronted with 2 suspects who drew weapons when i was answering a 9-1-1, call. one had to pretend gun the other a bad. it was only a drill. but as i discovered, the drill became serious quite fast as the actor in the situation with tended to open fire on me. here is the atf special operations division deputy chief on why they hold these drills for the media all around the country. want to do is we want to talk to the public through the media. >> about the important topic of law enforcement officers using force and art classes to talk about 2 different aspects, which is one of the constitutional standards in the league rules that officers must follow when using force. and secondarily, what can truly be expected of officers performing under such difficult circumstances when

they're required to use force next step for this group. they are heading to washington, d.c., for conference and san francisco tree says stasio kron. 4 news. >> tonight we're learning one of the pittsburgh police officers being named in a civil rights lawsuit. >> has prior run-ins with the law. ashton porter was shot twice by officer ernesto mejia rosco while porter was having a mental health crisis at the hampton inn and suites back in 2022, the lawsuit claims porter never charged at the officer with a knife. as the police reports suggest body camera footage also seems to debunk police claims the shots nearly killed the father of 6 in a separate case. mejia rosco was among the several officers federally indicted last year for obstruction of justice, bribery and civil rights violations. >> i do showed up to the scene with blood already on his hands because he choked someone just several years before choked him to death just several years before this. and took him 2 years

fighting this case to the court system to finally get the criminal charge dismissed. >> in porter's case, he spent more than a month in jail before eventually posting bail. porter's lawsuit seeks monetary damages and demands a jury trial. the city of pittsburgh, the police department and former chief have not responded to our requests for comment. it was a contentious day at the state capitol as lawmakers took up a bill that would prohibit school districts from notifying parents if their children identified as >> transgender or came out as lgbtq+. kron four's capitol correspondent eytan wallace has the story. >> well, emotions and passions certainly running high here at the state capitol. those on one side argue parents should absolutely be notified while those on the other side say doing so could put kids lives at risk. >> when you forcibly out a child, it harms them. parent christie hearst making that argument before the senate education committee. she's

speaking out against policies requiring teachers and staff to notify parents upon learning their child identifies as transgender. >> what has come out as lgbtq+, this is harmful herself. a mother of 3 and co-founder of the nonprofit, our schools, usa first specifically came to the committee to urge members to support 18 1955. authored by san diego assembly member chris ward. the legislation would prohibit school district enforcing and implementing lgbtq+ notification policies and would forbid teachers from outing children to their parents unless the child gives permission. far. 8 school districts in california have implemented such policies. it is a safety issue. these policies are. >> harming our students. and i know that because they reach out to me and they tell me and they tell me how unsafe they are. and in fact, it makes all lgbtqia kids and safe home and the time in the manner they choose to be able to disclose any part of their identity is theirs to own always. but this

group disagrees. opponents of ab 1955. say school notification policies are necessary to ensure parents are kept in the know >> about their children. if you triangulate the parents. from what's happening in the school with the teachers in the school counselors. >> how can a parent care for their child opponents of such notification policies argue kids could suffer emotionally and consider suicide of parents are and accepting. >> but republicans on the committee believe the opposite is true. if a child is going through that that. parents do need to be notified to that. they can be aware if there's. >> anything that could take someone's life. but in the end, that mission, were those the democratic majority in the committee approved ab 1955. marking what could be the beginning of the end of school notification policies. i am. >> absolutely in support of this bill because what it means for the child. i will be supporting the bill and i hope that we will continue.

last friday after lunch when a group of students assaulted another student. a second student stepped in to stop the fight and was also hurt. both of the victims had to go to the hospital for their injuries yesterday police identified the 8 students who initiated that fight and arrested them. they are now in juvenile hall on felony assault charges. >> roads are back open after a big rig carrying 40,000 pounds of strawberries overturned in san jose forcing lanes to shut down this morning on 101 in 8.80, traffic was diverted for at least 3 hours after the semi crashes about 7 o'clock this morning. crews then worked to clear the roadways and get the truck out of there. >> let's get your check. have any with check on 4 zone forecast. taking a live look from mount tam at this hour of no fog coming through as we've kind of gotten used to that last week. and now. >> kind of cleared out of it. yeah, not much will be just a

warm as what you can expect, let's get back to those winds. now. obviously, it's been kind of breezy this afternoon evening. we've got the big contrast going on as we're used to. we get that inland heating, air rises. something has to replace a fan, of course, coming in from the coast. we lose. the sun would lose the energy. we get the sun. we get the energy and just pull states back and forth a little bit less animated. it looks like getting into the weekend. that's going to be driven a little bit more by synoptic features that as big features like a front dropping south. and that's going to some scattered clouds there. not much else except cooler temps tonight, mostly clear mild 50's tomorrow. a few scattered clouds in the afternoon, but not a game changer. all hot and cold cooler at the coast. the weekend deal looks like some morning scattered clouds. and on saturday morning. but sunday will be throughout the afternoon. it looks like and you will notice it will be noticeably cooler on that front. all right. here's a look at high temperatures for tomorrow. we already got the blood reds already in place. look at this. the blues are inside the greens off towards the coast. there's a contrast. expect that for the next couple of days off that

extended forecast and a bit well and grant. >> dave, thank you. the 12 new yorkers who will decide whether to convict former president donald trump of 34 felonies began their deliberations earlier today after roughly 4 hours they were sent home for the evening, but only after they made several requests of the judge shower. catherine heenan is live in the newsroom. >> with the recap of the day, catherine. yeah, well, i they jump right in a grant to know while the jurors to include a banker. >> 2 attorneys there is a teacher in the mix taking the deliberations apparently very seriously. they sent a couple of different notes to the judge asking for more information to be a re read. and the judge said, yes, that is going to happen tomorrow. it all set off the usual speculation as to what is happening in that jury room. >> the jury deliberation room been called a black box. and no one knows what's going on in there. >> that's a retired trial

judge. his right. except we do know the jury now wants to rehear some of the testimony and some or all of the instructions. jurors want some of the testimony from former national enquirer publisher david packard to be read back, focusing on a 2015 trump tower meeting where packer agreed effectively to intercept negative stories for trump. they also want to hear star witness and former trump fixer, michael cohen's testimony about the same meeting. trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. prosecutors say he misrepresented hush money payments to cover up an affair with adult film. actress stormy daniels. trump denies the affair. the jury now has to decide whether prosecutors prove their case kind of probably have some dispute among themselves and they've got to resolve them. >> to reach a unanimous verdict. >> it only takes one holdout to complicate the case. a hung

jury would lead to a mistrial. meantime, donald trump again began the day by criticizing the trial, but also taking a swipe at robert de niro. the actor showed up outside the courthouse tuesday. blast trump and you've got heckled by trump supporters. >> and then they have protested broken >> standing out there. you've he got got >> after jurors left for the the judge and the attorneys they had to stay behind to detail exactly what will be re read tomorrow. they have to agree on that. but bottom line sounds like a big part of thursday could be spent rehashing the testimony and all those instructions. grant and noelle. >> thank you, catherine. tough job for jury. the giants and phillies finishing up their three-game series today. where

video. he didn't really do anything all that wrong. stopped right when they told them. so it's good to see that the charges the video backed up his side of the story. exactly right. but then welcome to kron. good to have exciting. get getting busy here with the niners wrapping up and it's always year round, right? all right. >> thanks venture. >> new today, legislative leaders say they've reached a budget agreement. they vow will spare the state from major cuts to core programs. in a statement this afternoon, assembly speaker robert read and senate president pro tem mike mcguire said they believe their proposed budget keeps the state on track to tackle a 45 billion dollar project. a deficit while still maintaining key spending for housing education. the proposal calls for more than 26 billion dollars in cuts over the next 2 years and maintains about half of the state's reserves, the assembly and senate budget committees are scheduled to review. this proposed budget in the coming week. lawmakers have until june 15th to pass a fully
