there. not really seeing a lot of cloud cover. so repeat of yesterday in that regard. and that's the way we should stay for much of the morning. now, as far as skies go, they do remain dry through this weekend's forecast to go ahead. plans some outdoor activities, maybe find some shade for. that's only thing you've got to worry about. winds from the north cutting off a little bit of that ocean access to the delta. still have that delta breeze this morning. but look at that. it's actually a wind out of the north up there. so that is cutting off a little that ocean cool there. as i mentioned now, temperatures in the 40's to 50's currently. bret, would pittsburgh being the exceptions really warm inland? brett would only dropping to about 70 degrees overnight last night. so if you have the windows open, you didn't have much of that cool air pushing on in into the afternoon today. as i mentioned, one of the hottest days of this forecast near if not to 90 degrees for inland spots. bayshore cities in some cases getting close to the 80 degree mark. now, as far as our roads go yesterday at this

time, talking about big issue in san jose. we don't have any of that this morning. no major hot spots popping up. if your bridges, they're rolling along a, ok? so this is a nice note for your thursday morning commute. entering the latter half of the week with some pretty nice conditions. lots of sunshine here in just a few minutes. and while so far, anyway, some easy commute conditions right right? john, thank you for that. we'll begin this morning with breaking news of castro valley. a public market. >> on up in flames in right now, alameda county firefighters. we're going to try to put the fire out, started around 3 this morning and it quickly grew in size. >> dozens of firefighters are on scene. writer on the building. witnesses tell us it's a market where multiple vendors sell their goods and that this is going to be a huge loss to the community. we have problems. michael thomas headed to the scene and he's going to have a live report coming 5.30. so make sure you stick with us. the homeowners insurance crisis hitting the community of of renda pretty

hard. major insurance providers like state farm of already started canceling policies sign wildfire. danger last night the city hosted a town hall for homeowners ask questions about their insurance policies. the 12 for sara stinson explains. many people went home, disappointed. >> homeowners here in orinda tell me they've either been dropped by their home insurance company or they're on the brink of that. many saying they are desperate for answers and solutions. that's basically why i came to see my worst fears were realized and they are. her brown is one of thousands of bay area homeowners experiencing the statewide insurance crisis. first hand. he's lived in orinda for 30 years and recently got told by his home insurance provider that he's being dropped this fall. don't have a plan right now. brown in more than 100 others packed into the library auditorium wednesday night for a town hall with the state department of insurance and the renda mayor, darlene been very, very

hard hit. we were one of the hardest hit communities and but it, but it is very emotional. insurance providers say they are not renewing thousands of policies due to wildfire risk. state farm alone is set to cancel 30,000 insurance is statewide. >> nearly 2000 of them in orinda think it's really, really hard and it's it's terrible when you get dropped. the state does offer a policy for homeowners who are unable to get insured in the marketplace. it's supposed to be a temporary safety net, but the commissioner's office says 1000 people are applying for it every day. the deputy commissioner explained the state's ongoing plan to stabilize the insurance market. the california sustainable insurance strategy includes requiring insurance companies to write no less 85% of homes and businesses in distressed areas that are identified by the insurance commissioner. the state hopes to complete several reforms by december of this year. but some say that's too late

patients are dying on the side of the road. and there are your way from getting to the hospital. and we simply keep moving as fast as possible because this is very real is very worrisome. even handed out this flyer here at the town hall for the second annual wildfire prevention and safety fair is this saturday. it's at the community park and it starts at 10 30. i'm sara stinson reporting in orinda kron. 4 news. >> multiple aerial rescues in sonoma county county sheriff's office says a rescue 3 mountain bikers inside try one and adele state park all just hours from one another. all bikers were transported to the authorities have identified the man shot and killed in belmont last friday as 27 year-old the anthony gate in from san francisco. the shooting happened right near irwin and hiller streets just off a one on one. police said the victim was shot several times. investigators are still

searching for a suspect. and of the east bay. one man is dead and another in the hospital following a shooting that happened in oakland. so this is at video shows police tuesday night on foothill boulevard right near the stanley exit off of 5.80, when police arrive. they say they found one man who'd been shot. he died at the hospital. the second man later showed up at the hospital. he's expected to survive. motive into the shooting is being investigated. now. comes out 6 decades after he was found guilty. scott peterson is getting another shot at freedom as lawyers are now working on getting dna evidence. they say we're prove his innocence. nesbitt has that story. scott peterson and his lawyers are asking for access to dna that they say will prove lacy was still alive. with pearson left their modesto home to go fishing. 22 years ago. >> on wednesday, the judge allowed access to dna testing of one item. it's been 22

years since the bodies of laci peterson and her unborn child. conner washed ashore in san francisco bay, her husband and the man convicted of her murder appeared in court via zoom wednesday. peterson's lawyers, but the los angeles innocence project have filed motions for access to dna evidence they say will prove laci was alive on december 24th and vanish. while peterson was away fishing in san francisco bay, prosecutors with the san mateo da's office have refused to hand over dna evidence unless court ordered on wednesday. judge elizabeth hill ruled that a piece of duct tape down the lacey's pants will be able to be tested. but then i dna testing on 13 other items. peterson's lawyers also claim shoddy police work saying the modesto police department's original investigation allegedly suppressed and lost court documents. they also claim that eyewitnesses who saw laci walking in the neighborhood at times after her husband left modesto, were never interviewed by police. scott peterson is being held at mule creek state prison about an hour east of sacramento. the san mateo district attorneys

office will now need to consult with the ags office to determine what lab will do. the dna testing reporting in redwood city. i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news. >> well, investigators have arrested a man who they say assaulted another man in a light rail station morning deputies. assault happened yesterday afternoon on the platform of the vta station in san jose right near children's discovery museum the suspect then reportedly when home and barricaded himself, deputies say they were able to negotiate with the man under arrest him. deputies say the victim took himself to the hospital. no word on his condition. it's not clear what prompted that attack. redwood city, a woman was arrested after a car was set on fire. police say that fire broke out right in the parking lot of second avenue. you have a one-on-one, a witness later show police video of the woman allegedly starting that fire. she was found a book charges of arson and resisting arrest. well, the san francisco sheriff's office defending their use of chemical agents

during a training exercise. it ended up spreading to a nearby elementary school. this after san francisco chronicle report indicating the chemicals used by the office were decades old. it happened last tuesday, 20 students and a teacher at foothill elementary school experience burning sensations on their faces scratchy throat that has multiple law enforcement agencies were conducting a training exercise at a county jail in san bruno. sheriff's office said uc berkeley police department bought the chemicals. and while the office believe the canisters have been pulled from storage, appears to be no greater health risk and using a new product. mateo county supervisor david canepa says this should never happen again. >> were in 2024. there has to be protocols and processes in place way. now what deeply deeply more alarm is that now we find out that was a multi

agency >> you know, police, various police departments and that we're looking at canisters that are from the 1960's that would disposed. >> well, the sheriff's office said last week that they are pausing all chemical agent training classes while they review that incident. and 8 middle school students have been arrested in connection to a fight at a middle school in a bottle. police say the fight happened last friday at sinaloa middle school. well, the group of students assaulted another student. second student stepped in to stop the fight and was also hurt. both of the v.ctims had to go to the hospital. the students arrested are now in juvenile hall. ok, take a look at this. as police reporting another mountain lion sighting. they say this video is from 4.30, yesterday morning right near the area. fear metal way. police are still looking for this big cat. it's actually the second cat sighting in the piece. this one spot in a mobile home park on dixon landing road.

we're here for things you know today and it's an open are suing their landlord for an fix repairs. top of that, the building has power for months following a fire back in january. one tenant says while electricity restored to most of the units, some are running on a generator. that's a which is the leaders say they're seeing progress when it comes in drug-related arrest. police say they've made around 3,000 arrests and seized 200 kilos narcotics over the past year. most of the drugs seized were fentanyl and meth. one the students at stanford held a

contribute to what will be a sunny and warmer day today with some inland 80's to even low 90's that low to our north will. it's done accident. the region and high pressure. ridge is in now. this is going to add up to today and tomorrow being the hottest days of the forecast dry and sunny weekend, but not quite as hot into the upcoming weekend itself. now skies this morning are nice and clear. you can see that here in future cast tomorrow is going to be just as clear and just as high after that, we do cool things off a little bit to saturday. you do see the return of a little bit of ocean cool there in the form of some of that low gray pushing into the bay. that's going to bring temperatures down to a nice and moderated daytime high down in the low 80's for most of us inland by saturday into sunday. so honestly, this forecast adds up pretty well for those of you that our summer lovers and let a little bit of that sunshine and warmth to date 60's and 70's and san francisco 60's right along the coastline. pretty cool out

there. ocean temperatures are really chilly. that's kept our coastal areas down. kind of cool. carlos at 79 redwood city, 80 degrees south bay temperatures mostly in the mid 80's, although getting close to 90 los gatos saratoga and morgan hill livermore. also 87 today. that's a big bump in temperatures. hey, we're at 78 while oakland, a warm 75 concord, real close to 90 and a few 90's and pittsburg, antioch and vacaville at 90 or 92 degrees today. let's get you a look ahead tomorrow. a little bit cooler in some inland spots. honestly will still be hovering right around 90 degrees for warmest of chest as hot. many cases saturday and sunday. we do take a dip in temps, though, low 80's on the average in london, 70's by the bay shore. nice forecast for the weekend. temperatures will climb yet again into next week by next wednesday, many inland areas right back to those low 90's. as for your roads, things out there rolling along just fine. we are looking at a smooth

forecast across the bay bridge. 8 minutes to get your cross right now. and a nice sunrise about to take shape there in the dittance. san mateo bridge kind of busy. tuned in to sup 8. it might be a busy morning commute as of now, there's no backups but do anticipate traffic to be picking up here in just a few minutes. great. thank you, john. mateo county seeing an increase in the number of people that are living on the street, according to their latest count in january, more than 2100 people were experiencing homelessness. that's an 18% up tick compared to the previous year. officials also say they also saw an increase people receiving shelter in emergency facilities. >> redwood city has the most homeless people in the county follow at the and then the unincorporated land right along the coast. muti is receiving almost 5 million dollars to help improve access stations for people disabilities. the federal transit administration has given the agency 4.6 million

dollars to help build platforms. saw real chair rams at 5 light rail stops. those talks are going to be right along the a church and ocean view light. so prices continue to climb. a bill of the state capitol aims to level the playing field or families. the state assembly passed a bill yesterday preventing some big corporations combined. single-family homes turn them into rentals was authored by assembly member alex lee, who represents parts of alameda and contra costa county. the bill now heads to the state senate. turning now to the trump hush money trial in new york city. jury began deliberations yesterday, but no verdict has come out. washington correspondent basil john joins us live with the very latest. good morning, basil. >> well, rain a good morning. the jury was dismissed yesterday around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. and now the jurors must consider all 34 felony counts of falsifying% business records and the

jurors must be unanimous to convict. >> former president donald trump and the rest of the country must now wait for the 12 jurors to deliver a verdict in the hush money trial. we already have to wait outside the courtroom yesterday. trump continue to accuse the judge of putting him into unfair situation. if we had a fair chance, the jury will determine whether trump is guilty of 34 felony charges of falsifying business records involving hush money payments to adult film star stormy daniels before the 2016 presidential election. the jurors have to talk about who they believe who they disbelief, why they just believe why they believe georgetown law professor gregory mize says this could be a lengthy deliberation, how much the jurors need to consider. it is a big task. but i i think anything's possible. >> and i i i wouldn't dare predict. what's going to

>> san francisco, a crash led to this dramatic scene at fish and brannan streets. firefighters say a car hit a fire hydrant around noon yesterday. the driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. with the rising cost childcare in california. san francisco's mayoral candidate mark farrell trying to change all that. he's in a house a press conference today to announce its plans to establish universal health care for children in san francisco, farrell says state reimbursement rates fill to cover the true cost of care. great financial strains on the area. families family spent an average nearly $40,000 annually, infant preschool care. major policy announcement is set for 10:00am hopes to tackle the growing child care crisis in the city. and the north bay, a pretty popular nonprofit conservation corps north bay. are they prepared to help their community in need by providing on-the-job training underserved youth? looking for a career in conservation. everybody paid on-the-job training, non-profit hopes to

repair young adults for the workforce. ahead. trainees are between the age of 18 to 30, typically low income or an employee, the nonprofit c e o angel minor says services involved paid training for green jobs along with wraparound support, ensure participants basic needs are met. there are pretty popular. asian grocery chain is finally open in the east bay. kareen grocery store h mart is opening in pleasanton. this marked area's 4th location. stores open at the dublin retail center right next to the stoneridge shopping center. the w h mart will have outdoor dining to complement its mega food hall. features a variety of asian cuisines. no word yet on exactly when the location will open. the community college in pittsburgh paving a path for higher education for high school students in east contra costa county, los banos college is offering a free dual enrollment program which allows high school seniors and juniors to take college classes in their high school.

>> i welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news going on. 05:30am, here. we're starting to see warmer temperatures across the bay area. johnson talking all about that morning. yeah, we're warming up. that's the big story. after a cooler than average memorial day weekend, temps have been climbing in today and tomorrow are actually about to be the hottest days of this week's forecast. we're looking outside at the golden gate bridge right here, starting to get a little bit brighter on what is yet another clear start to this morning. we're not seeing anything out there in the way of fog across the bay area. so easy step out in that regard. now, skies are going to remain dry in this forecast, too. so no worries towards the weekend. as for winds, mostly out of the north, actually a pretty sizable northerly wind up in the delta, blocking out

access to that ocean. cool there inland. and that spots like brentwood in pittsburgh didn't really cool down a lot last night that northerly wind keeping you in the 60's and even low 70's through your evening hours. most of the rest of us in the bay down in the 40's to 50's right now later on today, daytime highs will rise near if not to 90 degrees for hottest inland spots with upper 70's to even low 80's right along the bay shore roadways this morning. look at all right. we are seeing an easy drive across the bay bridge so far. no metering lights yet, but they usually turn on about 15 minutes from now. so do watch for that san mateo bridge at 13 minutes. definitely a lot of early risers on the san mateo bridge so far, 7 minutes on the richmond center fell and another look at the golden gate. nice and empty and a beautiful sunrise in the distance, right? all right, john, thank you that. let's get over to breaking news right now. alameda county firefighters battling a massive fire public market. >> castro valley, how michael

thomas live on the very active scene behind you, michael, what's going on? >> well, at lake chabot public market is behind me it's a complete total lots take a look at still very active. this fire started at around to 20 or so this morning. and that's according to alameda county fire department. you can see that roof completely caved. and now this latest about public market used to be a regular market. however, over the past few years, it was turned into kind of a storefront for different types of smaller chains, restaurants. you can see it's ice cream boba sushi and so on. according to fire officials, the cause is still unknown. they got here and got calls around 2.20, to 30 or so at that point, they say that there was a gas line inside that was causing the fire to be bigger than they expected. but the cause is still being investigated. you can see the roof on that completely taken off and completely blown out when it comes to the fire departments on scene. we've got meeting county fire department along with some neighboring fire department that they called to help with when it comes to the owner of they have not been contacted

impact. we did interview alameda county and the gentleman that we interview who worked for the department says he's good. childhood friend actually owns this location and that he has not contacted the owner as of yet. if we come back out here live, you can see >> them trying to put out those flames will inside on the ground and from up top as well when it comes to the amount of firefighters here we're looking at anywhere from about 30 to 50 or so. if you are utilizing lakeshow road this morning, erin castro valley, it is going to be close top at this intersection at least comes to injuries. no injuries as of yet. and again, the cause still being investigated. but alameda county fire is calling this lake chabot public market. a total as we get more information this morning. and if we do hear from the owner of this location will continue to keep you updated when it comes to neighboring homes and businesses. those are all currently safe right now. they are getting some splashes of water according to the fire

department. but there is no need for them to evacuate or worry about a fire going towards that way. that's the very latest here in castro valley and michael thomas, i will send it back to you live in the studio time. i'm michael excellent reporting. there are no one i spoke briefly as you're heading out to that, sir. thanks for your coverage. >> developing story this morning, 8 students in nevada were arrested after a large fight broke out on campus. leaving parents worried for their kids. safety problems will tran live at sinaloa middle school with more on that will. so what happened there? well, the fight took place on friday on campus. ever did a fight actually on thursday. but it was just only delayed for 24 hours because if i did take place here. >> at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on friday with the kids on campus. and ultimately they did their investigation and arrested 8 kids between the ages of 12 14 years old at sinaloa middle school. a lot of the parents, it's been he

said she said some parents saying the girls who are on the ground, they were the bullies and the people punching the girls on the ground. they were the victims. and if you talk to parents of the girls on the ground, they said it was the other way around. but reyna everybody can agree on this. bullying has been an ongoing problem at this middle school. not just this year for years. however, and nothing has been done about it. so they're actually very upset with the school district as well as the administrators at this particular school, the police department, the nevada police department, they are fully well aware of this and they say they are on standby waiting for the school district to ask them to intervene to possibly do something about this. in the meantime, obviously because they're minors, their names are not being released to the public. but if you talk to the students and the parents at the school, they know exactly who these kids are. as far as what the school district and

the school will be doing. in the meantime, i can tell you that they're asking staff members to keep an extra eye on out to be vigilant to keep their doors open. even during lunchtime. so the kids, if they want to feel a little bit r safer, they can go into the classrooms just to feel a little bit safer about what's going on. school should start reyna in about 2 hours from now. and of course, we will get reaction from students as well as parents spend again. he said she said, but they all can agree. this has been ongoing problem at the school with no solution in sight. back to you. >> all right. well, thank you for that breakdown. there, ok? take a look at this. this is what it looks like inside of an apartment building. this is on 26 avenue in oakland's fruitvale neighborhood on top of that building hasn't at power for months. fallen fire back in january. now tenants are suing their landlord saying the landlord has not made any repairs or reimburse them for lost food medication and the hotel stays. one

tenant says why electricity was restored to most of the units. 4 units are being powered by a generator that sits right outside of her window. she says the fumes are making her family sick. >> we've been enduring for over 4 months now. i'm being on temporary light. we don't know when this building with power off again. >> kron 4 reached out to the landlord of this building. we haven't heard back, but we're told the landlord plans to be with the tenets about the situation on friday. richmond cowboy, accusing police of misconduct when officers responded to a high-speed chase turn their attention to a bystander filming the police response. cars in kerman has report. >> but they they this richmond cowboys calling for the firing of to richmond police officers who he says attacked him and violated his civil rights rally. videotape them responding to an incident.

because of the basic respect person has a right to have as a citizen should be free from police abuse. and ought to not be able to exercise a constitutional right with what out fear that they're going to be subjected to boeing type activities and essentially arrested and taken to jail for something that they didn't do that with the because they stood up for their right to exercise their rights. a news conference wednesday bursts announced he's filed a claim against the city of richmond for the actions of police. sergeant alexander canine officer nicholas redneck. this is the first step before filing a federal civil rights lawsuit to this is the kind of conduct that i very much offended by as fergus who was both a cowboy and a horse trainer. he thinks those 2 officers should no longer be on the job of zone with this type of stuff to have because they have to. >> you know, countless young black men and then how many people they are aiming to do this to also that nobody knows about. >> dan kerman kron, 4 news,
