mountain lion sightings within just miles of each other. chaos on campus. middle school students arrested after a fight breaks out on a north bay campus. >> from the bay area's local news station. we now with breaking news. >> thanks so much for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm stephanie lin and we are following breaking news. california high school in san ramon is under lockdown due to an unspecified threat. according to san ramon police. this is at broadmoor drive just east of 6.80, in san ramon, as you can see from the map there on your screen. police say school staff got a phone call threatening violence. officers are setting up a perimeter around the school and the san ramon olympic pool and aquatic park. we know bomb detecting k 9 units from several agencies are also on scene. and this is a live look at the school right now. officials telling parents to stay away from campus as the investigation into this continues. kron

four's theresa stasi was at the scene with our photographer there, malcolm gathering more information and they will have a live report coming up. also in the east bay, a popular market in castro valley was destroyed by fire earlier this morning. kron four's charles clifford joins us live from the scene. charles, what's the latest there? >> well, good afternoon. the good news here as far as we know, nobody was injured in this fire. take a look behind me. there you see the of alameda county sheriff has a lake chabot closed down here at quail avenue and on the other side of the roadway there, that is the chabot market, which it appears that the building is a total loss, unfortunately, is a very popular spot. a lot of people here are upset by that. around 2.20, thursday morning. the alameda county fire department responded here to the lake chabot public market on reports of a fire. when they arrived on scene. they found the building fully engulfed in flames. it's unclear how long the fire had been burning, but

the blaze was quickly upgraded to 3 alarms with reinforcements coming in from hayward in the city of alameda. >> a ruptured gas line inside was also making the fire spread faster. unfortunately, crews were unable to save the building. really sad see this happen. we tried the best we can and there for about an hour. >> on the here working the roof started to give way. we had to pull out. >> firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control by sunup. they were also able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings. the lake chabot market was home to multiple businesses, including a a deli 3 restaurants and then ice cream shop and now it's gone. >> and the community is going to be the last port. >> patrick devine lives nearby. he said to see the neighborhood lose such a popular spot but also feels bad for the people who worked here. >> you know, they're mostly young people working behind the counter, another out of jobs and a jobs are hard to find. and and patients hitting us and >> they need the money. >> the exact cause of the fire

remains under investigation. although kron 4 has learned that fire crews focus their efforts in a kitchen area of the building. all right, back live cancels classes were also canceled at nearby chabot elementary. the fire department says that they're probably going to be here this evening. so if you're in the area, lake chabot and quail, keep in mind, that could be some traffic delays there. still some hoses across the roadway here as they keep knocking down any hot spots over there in the building. but for now in castro valley, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thanks so much for your coverage. >> residents across the bay area are want to be on alert after a series of mountain lion sightings. there have been 3 so far this month in the south bay. 2 of them have been in the last 2 weeks in milpitas and they were just miles apart from each other. take a look at this is the most recent sighting in milpitas. police say this video is from just yesterday morning near the area of fair meadow way. police are still looking for this big cat that you just saw your screen. there. now, this one was

spotted in a mobile home park on dixon landing road in this next video. you can see it there. officials used drones with thermal imaging to try and find this cat, but they could not track it down. it is san jose. another mountain lion spotted prowling through a yard earlier this month. take a look. the mountain lion was captured leaping up onto a fence and taking a look around. officials are asking residents in the area to bring their pets indoors and to keep those animals on a leash during walks to keep everybody safe. if you see a mountain lion running is not recommended. instead, you want to try to appear larger by waving your arms and speaking aloud from voice. no word yet on whether any of these cats have been spotted again. now to a developing story. police arrested 8 students in novato after a large fight broke out on campus. kron four's will tran is that seen a low middle school with more? the kids are inside the classroom as we speak. but when they arrived to school, maybe show you video. >> they were met by adults,

vice principals, principals, they in even brought in extra people to keep a close eye on the situation, including conflict counselors. now they want to make sure that the kids are safe because of what happened on friday. it took a couple of days for that nevada police department to ultimately look at the video and make arrests. 8 kids between 12 and 14 years old got into a fight on friday on campus. the charges include conspiracy as well as felony assault. that's how serious the situation was. now. the school district, according to many parents, they say that they have been told the school district many times that bullying is a problem on campus. the school district did stop a possible fight on prevented. but on friday, sure enough there was a huge fight on campus involving all of those kids. i got a chance to

talk to the school district as well as some parents. here's a very action about possible ongoing bullying at campus. is bullying a problem here at the school? i think billings a problem in every middle school in america. >> so no worse know better than any other place. i can't gauge that. i don't know what what happened said every other school, but i know that bullying happens at all. the schools. and i know that at the administration here is addressing and doing the best they can from the that we had here the other it was very disappointing. and i don't think the parents were heard. >> there was a lot of anger. there was a lot of heat but i'd like to see what else is happening. i like to see some major changes happened to protect these pulling an ongoing problem at the school 100%. >> and do you think that they were aware of it and did not doing anything? >> from what i've seen and what i've heard from other parents and children. yes. >> now the school district

denies that that they say they try their very best to make sure that the kids are safe. and if there's any information they would pounce on it, which is exactly what they did on thursday. but moving forward, they're making sure that there are plenty of adults on campus to make sure that the kids who are on campus remain safe. i even asked them what about the 8 kids have they been released and are they back on campus at this particular time? and a spokeswoman says she does not know. developing news in san jose, sheriff's deputies arrested an inmate. >> who escaped a southern california correctional facility. 38 year-old daniel lopez zavala skip the san benito correctional facility in hollister on tuesday. the sheriff's office says he jumped over a barbed wire fence and that his girlfriend allegedly helped him escape he was arrested last night at a hotel in san jose. the sheriff's office says of allah is connected to northern gang members. he is charged on

several felonies, including child abuse. let's talk about our forecast now as we take a live look outside at mount tam. we can see the city of san francisco on the right hand side your screen right there. stick in now with meteorologist kyla grogan for more. hey there. i love that beautiful visibility we've got going on we got warm yesterday. let's talk about the highs that we hit. >> santa rosa was my high summer. the map get up to 89 degrees. but close behind it was conquered at 88. and even, you know, downtown san francisco made it to 70 degrees yesterday. you can see it's a nice 80's around the base may be down in san jose as well. so really nice above average. today we consider, you know, we should be about 65 degrees. this time of year in san francisco. so 70, about 5 degrees above current temperatures. got a little breeze going on. as you can see there, we are looking pretty good already starting to pop into those 80's yet again today. you can see them in san jose livermore, concord right now, very close to it santa rosa. so what does that mean? that means we're about to see another warm day today. well, above average, this is how much warmer we are right

now than we were this time yesterday and with a few exceptions, you can see, you know, are up between about one to 5 degrees. so get ready, everybody, because the warm-up is happening. current wind right now not too bad. about 14 miles per hour at sfo. i do expect that will get breezy this afternoon. i don't expect it will be breezier than yesterday. so not quite as bad highs today, as i mentioned, are going to be above average. and you certainly see that here. as we're looking at for san frgncisco, oakland to get the 70's some mid 80's in san jose, upper 80's in livermore. low 80's in napa and about 87 degrees. looking out for that santa rosa. so a really nice day on tap, the warm-up does not last. we are going to cool down as we head toward the weekend. i'll have more of those details when i come back in a bit. alright, sounds great. thank you. turning now to the trump hush money trial in new york city. the jury resuming deliberations today. >> after asking to rehear potentially crucial testimony. our washington correspondent basil john has the latest. >> the jury was dismissed yesterday around 4 in the

afternoon. jurors must now consider all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. and the jurors must be unanimous to convict >> former president donald trump and the rest of the country must now wait for the 12 jurors to deliver a verdict in the hush money trial. we already have to wait outside the courtroom yesterday. trump continue to accuse the judge of putting him into unfair situation. we had a fair chance, the jury will determine whether trump is guilty of 34 felony charges of falsifying business records involving hush money payments to adult film star stormy daniels before the 2016 presidential election. the jurors have to talk about who they believe who they disbelief, why they just believe why they believe georgetown law professor gregory mize says this could be a lengthy deliberation, how much the jurors need to consider. it is a big task.

oakland are suing their landlord after a building fire left them without power for a month. >> kron four's gayle ong shows us what the tennis described as dangerous living conditions. >> i don't want to buy, you know, hundreds of dollars of food for it to go to waste again, like in january. >> annabelle llanos is one of the dozens of tenants on 26th avenue in oakland's fruitvale neighborhood who are suing the landlord for mold. cockroaches holes in walls, weeks, electrical issues that a lot of the tenants have been dealing with this after an electrical fire back in january. jackie's in erie is the tenants lawyer. they left tenants to fend for themselves for weeks. they left them without utilities or even without real housing. the landlord is someone who doesn't live in oakland but bought this property in oakland hoping to >> make a profit off of.

>> not making repairs. milano says electricity has been restored to most of the units, but 4 units have yet to be repaired and are being powered by a generator that sits outside her window and it makes her family feel sick from the fumes. know we've been enduring for over 4 months now. i'm >> being on temporary light. we don't know when this building with power power off again. the lawsuit is seeking compensation for the thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses due to lack of electricity and heat, including food, medicine, clothing, blankets and hotel stays. tenants are also seeking assistance from the alliance of californians for community empowerment, a nonprofit tenants rights organization that works with renters across california, including in oakland, valerie bachelor is the executive director. there are multiple families with multiple children. >> and these kids have had to go through not having power, not hot water, not having a

refrigerator where they can store not only their food medicine. >> and kron 4 reached out to the landlord of this building. we have not yet heard back, but we are told the land more plans to meet with the tenants about the situation on friday in the studio. gayle ong kron. 4 news. let's check in on our weather conditions as we take a live look outside at s taking in now with cuyler. for more on our weather conditions outdoors. hi, kyla. hey there. it's another gorgeous day today. you can see out of half moon bay we just had ever so limited marine experience this morning, right once again to the blue skies are out there. people taking a walk and enjoying it. >> temperatures a little chilly out there. still 55 degrees, but we're at 80 in san jose. you can see dublin's up to 83 degrees. so we are warming up quickly. 66 in downtown san francisco. we're 73 in napa and already hit the m 80 degree mark just now in petaluma close to it in santa rosa nevado as well. so obviously anjindication that we are under the influence of high pressure here. you can see this ridge. it's quickly

pronounced ridge, but it is there. and since that low pressure started to move away, we're going to warm up a little bit more than we did yesterday already starting to see that. and obviously this is the effect of it. you see just a few little high clouds rolling by, but mostly blue skies across the entire bay area. live look from the east bay confirming those blue skies are bay area wide and we're going to talk about an east bay community concord today looking out for a wildly warm temperature of about 89 90 degrees. you can see by tomorrow we will still be warm, although a little bit cooler. we really cool it down, though, as we get into the weekend. that's when things start to pull back saturday sunday into monday. but that is not long lived because we are going to see those temperatures get right back to a very warm profile as we get into tomorrow. and frankly, if we look ahead to next week, this is next week. you can see the midwest looks to be a little cooler than normal. but the rest of the country looking to be warmer than normal. and for us a lot warmer than normal. so how much warmer? well, let's take a look at that 7 day forecast and i will show you nice today and tomorrow, but very warm

will cool it down saturday, sunday into monday. we'll get that marine layer back particularly sunday monday. we'll see some of that marine layer presidents. but then by tuesday, you can see rocketing rate back up to those inland upper 80's and even exceeding that as we get into wednesday. so we've got some incredibly warm weather coming our way next week. it looks like the warmest that we've certainly seen so far this year. of course, i will be keeping an eye on all of it. back to you. all right. i'll have my somewhat ready. thank you. a richmond man is suing the city accusing local police of assaulting him while he was trying to fill their response to an incident. he says. >> kron four's dan kerman reports. >> but they they this richmond cowboys calling for the firing of to richmond police officers who he says attacked him and violated his civil rights while videotape them responding to an incident. this is surveillance video that may 5th incident near jos market on mcdonald. crazy gusts as the incident was almost over and he was in no one's way when officers turned

>> 20 years after a jury found him guilty of murder. scott peterson is trying to gain his freedom he appeared before a judge wednesday asking for more than a dozen pieces of evidence to be tested for dna kron four's. rob nesbitt tells us what the judge decided. >> scott peterson and his lawyers are asking for access to dna that they say will prove lacy was still alive. with pearson left their modesto home to go fishing. 22 years ago on wednesday, the judge allowed access to dna testing of one item. it's been 22 years since the bodies of laci peterson and her unborn child. conner washed ashore in san francisco bay, her husband and the man convicted of her murder appeared in court via zoom wednesday. peterson's lawyers, but the los angeles innocence project have filed motions for access to dna evidence they say will prove laci was alive on december 24th and vanish. while peterson was away fishing in san francisco bay, prosecutors with the san mateo da's office have refused to hand over dna evidence unless court ordered on wednesday. judge elizabeth

stasio has been at the scene gathering more information. she joins us live now with the latest to resign. >> i-seventy, they are certainly taking a very precautionary measure out here right in front of california high. as you're mentioning, that got a call early this morning of explosive devices left at the school. the call also said that they there would be some kind of presence of someone coming on campus and opening fire. so based on that very detailed threat, the police department came out here as well as bomb squad. we've got the central county swat team out there, which is a specialized unit trained to deal with these kinds of scenarios. they have locked down the school right now. so no one can leave campus. parents cannot pick up their children either. so right now we're in a precautionary measure as they are going door by door. they're going through every inch of this facility to

make sure that there is not anything dangerous that was left at the school to explode. bomb dogs around here, specially trained dogs know how to carry the scent and follow the scent of any kind of explosive device over to your left. you can see some of the swat officers that are out here with their specialized weapon. green. and again, everyone is taking this very seriously. we're going to be getting updates every 20 minutes, according to school officials. i can kind of hear the drone. they've been flying a drone above the high school. i can see the drone kind of behind us right now. >> so that's gathering some intel as well to try make sure that everyone is well versed in what's going on that they have the latest information and that there a real threat out here. so that's kind of the status right now during this precautionary measure, they haven't found anything, but we will continue to provide updates throughout the hour. back to your stuff. >> all right. our theresa

stasi covering breaking news for us out of san that campus there, california high school under lockdown due due to an unspecified threat. thank you so much for your reporting. now the state capitol, a new bill banning school districts from enforcing lgbtq+ notification policies passed the state senate education committee. >> it would prevent teachers from out in children to their parents unless the child gives permission. 8 school districts in california have introduced such policies. supporters argue it can be harmful to students mental health if they are outed to their parents without their consent. opponents say it keeps parents aware of what's going on with their child. >> a safety issue. these policies are harming our students. and i know that because they reach out to me and they tell me and they tell me how unsafe they are. and in fact, it makes all lgbtqia kids unsafe triangulate. the parents. >> i'm from what's happening in the school with the teachers in the school counselors how can a parent care for their child?

>> the bill now moves on to the senate health committee. you need is getting almost 5 million dollars to improve access to stations for people with disabilities. the federal transit administration has given the agency 5 million dollars to bill platforms and install wheelchair ramps up 5 new. the light rail stops. those stops will be along. the jade church oceanview lines. san francisco police this week reported progress on drug related arrests. the department announced in the past year officers made 3,000 arrests and seized 200 kilos of narcotics in the tenderloin and soma neighborhoods. most of the drugs seized for fentanyl and meth. it's been a year since the city says since city officials rather launched an operation to crack down on drugs in the streets by bringing together local, federal and state resources. state legislative leaders say they have reached a budget agreement. they vow we'll spare state from major cuts to core programs. in a statement, assembly speaker robin and senate president pro tem mike

mcguire said they believe their proposed budget keeps the state on track to tackle a 45 billion dollar project. a deficit while still maintaining key spending for housing and education. the proposal cars were more than 26 billion dollars in cuts over the next 2 years and maintains about half of the state's reserves. lawmakers say the state's rainy day fund has helped, but acknowledge this is a tough budget year. >> we know the revenues generally coming in lower than a quote a number months ago. i think what you know about budget is a reflection of your priorities, right? and so i really do hope the governor proves that out. you know, for all californians. >> the assembly and senate budget committees are scheduled to review the proposed budget in the coming week. lawmakers have until june 15th to pass a fully balanced budget and send it to the governor's desk. in the north bay, a popular nonprofit

conservation corps north bay is offering paid on-the-job training to underserved youth. looking for a career in conservation. trainees are between the age of 18 to 30 and are typically low incomes or unemployed last year, youth corps members restored nearly 300 acres of natural habitat and maintained 150 miles of trails. so quite an impact there. a new usda report shows china owns nearly 350,000 acres of farmland across more than 25 states. some lawmakers say it is a security risk, especially when the land is close to military installations. newsnation's evan lambert has more from our nation's capital. >> lawmakers are one step closer to countering china's threat to u.s.. agriculture recently passing a bill out of a key committee that would require the secretary of agriculture to do an annual assessment of that threat. a key portion of this bill introduced by iowa republican congresswoman ashley hinson would require the secretary to

gorgeous out there. we are warming up today. also warming up in the southwest. you can see phoenix already at 97 degrees. biggest thing in 93. >> i wanted to talk about what's going on in the center of the country down texas. again, we're a little cooler today in texas and that is some good news. what's not such good news is once again, we are looking out for the potential of severe thunderstorms and you can see the area surrounded in yellow frames. that is where we have the watches going on. but then we also have warnings that are happening and there's a cell you can see right now just south of dallas. also one right up in oklahoma. let's zoom in on this one in dallas that's been causing a lot of problems and bring some flash flooding concerns as well. you can see this is a severe thunderstorm warning. that's a flash flood warning. very heavy rain coming down yesterday in in the texas area. they had a hail stones, the size of a grapefruit. i was looking at a picture of this morning, unbelievable weather that they've been having. obviously, that is going to keep an eye on again today. we are a lot nicer lot quieter, but we do have that little ridge of high pressure. you can kind of make it out here. it's not a dramatic

bomb-sniffing trained dogs did not find any kind of explos ves. they did not find any kind of suspect. now, one of those calls that did come in early this morning that prompted this response out here that included that someone was going to come on campus and open fire. none of happened. this campus is completely safe right now. and parents, if they want to come pick up their children can the lieutenant said unfortunately, they have these calls come in sometimes twice a year close to midterms as well as finals. the school is in finals right now. they say that they take all threats very seriously. and that is what prompted their action once again. but again, at this hour, the lockdown has been cleared here at california high school in san ramon. back to you. glad to hear that everyone is safe and the situation or to see reporting from. >> for us out of san ramon, california, high school.

appreciate your coverage. talk about our forecast now as we take a live look outside at the san francisco. >> checking in now with meteorologist kyla grogan for the latest high. they're beautiful day out there. you can take a look stormtracker 4 and kind of make out a little bit of a ridge going on. it's not a terrifically pronounced ridge, but yet it is the reason that we are starting to see some of these temperatures soar. >> 85 degrees already in antioch. 82 in concord, 80 down in san jose, but also really warm around the bay hayward at 77 degrees. obviously up in the north bay were popping up there to 81. >> in nevada, the only cool places, half moon bay. it a little bit breezy out there, too, but not too bad. about 5.10, miles per hour. a little higher than that in san francisco right now. and certainly out of point reyes where we usually get breezy. but wanted to show you what's going to happen over the next couple of days. you can see we stay nice and sunny and warm tomorrow. then the weekend comes and you start to see a change. some clouds rolling in late saturday night. you see a system to the north of us. we don't get any rain, but they do up in oregon and that

little bit of low pressure will start to cool us down and make for a cloudy sunday and cooler sunday as well even into monday. but next week we're back at it. and the reason is high pressure. so keep your eye on this high pressure right here. this is what's allowing us to warm up now we get into the weekend. you start to see low pressure dipping down a little bit. and that's what presses those temperatures down. but then by the time we get into next week about tuesday, high pressure back on the move, kind of rolling in allowing that ridge to build up allowing those warmer temperatures once again to be pervasive. so tonight, another night of clear skies and it will do pretty good tomorrow night, too. but by saturday night, this is going to change in the clear skies will turn more to cloudy temperatures will be a pretty nice tonight. not bad between about 49. 57 degrees. and as we take a look at the next 7 days, you can see it as a warm run today and tomorrow, a cooler run on saturday sunday and monday and then that high pressure kicks back in and look where we're going tuesday into wednesday. wednesday looks to be the warmest day we've had in quite some time. so something to keep an eye

happening today. a group of rehabilitated brown penguins will be released back to the wild near fort baker in sausalito in mid-april. nearly 340 starving and injured sievers were found and taken in by the international bird rescue. many birds were found

from the monterey and santa cruz areas injured by fishing hooks and line the california department of fish and wildlife is investigating the cause of this crisis. now, this first group of birds will be released this afternoon at 2.30. so it will be such a lovely sight to see. and a humpback whale was successfully freed from fishing gear after a complex today. rescue effort off rottnest island, western australia. officials with the department of biodiversity and western australia said that after an initial failed attempt to cut the lines that were on this animal overnight tracking of this satellite tag whale allow the crew to try again the next morning. they say it was a complicated entanglement. the line was found wrapped around one of the animals pectoral fins and also went to the whale's mouth and around the body. so it was quite a challenge to cut the right lines at the right time to free the animal. but that will is much better shape. now. good news there. and that will be off from the newsroom today. thank you so much for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon i'm stephanie
