>> tonight at 5.30, a popular market in castro valley is gone after an early morning fire leaving business owners and foodies. heartbroken crews are still working to figure out what caused this fire. >> flames erupted at 2 o'clock this morning and the lake chabot public market, fire crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring homes spring that

fire. >> under control by about sunrise, the lake chabot market was home to multiple businesses, including a boba bar. a deli 3 restaurants and ice cream shop. >> it's really sad see this happen. we try the best we can and there for about an hour on the here working the roof started to give way we had to pull out and now it's gone. >> and the community is going to be last port. you know, they're mostly young people working behind the counter. another out of jobs and a jobs are hard to find. and and patients hitting us and >> they need the money. >> yes, certainly a big loss for that community while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. kron 4 has learned that fire crews have been focusing their efforts in a kitchen area of the building. the good news here, though, was no one was injured. >> parents from sinaloa, middle school in nevado are reacting tonight following the arrest of 8 students after a fight sent to students to the hospital. some parents say

bullying has been an ongoing problem, but the school and the district have done nothing to prevent it. >> from the that we had here the other it was very disappointing. and i don't think the parents were heard. there was a lot of anger. there was a lot of heat but i'd like to see what else is happening. i like to see some major changes happened to protect these, his bullying and ongoing problem at the school 100%. >> and do you think that they were aware of it and did not doing anything? >> and from what i've seen and what i've heard from other parents and children. yes. >> police say the fight happened last friday. a group of students assaulted 2 teens. both of the victims had to go to the hospital for their injuries. no word on if the 8 kids are still in juvenile hall tonight. district officials say they're making sure there are plenty of adults on campus going forward. they denied their being a bullying problem at the school. >> a bill aimed at increasing access to opioid addiction treatment is one step closer to becoming law. the bill authored by san francisco assemblymember matt haney

sheriff's office is moving into its new headquarters this week. it will fully open its doors to the community. the first monday in june, some next week. the new state-of-the-art headquarters is located at 3.30, bradford street in downtown redwood city. >> as california lawmakers navigate a massive budget deficit. hundreds of crime victims took to the state capital today demanding governor gavin newsom approved funding for survivor resources and programs. this comes less than 24 hours after democratic leaders reached a budget deal, they pledge will protect core services. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> more than 200 crime victim advocates demonstrating outside the state capitol. they're concerned governor gavin newsom's proposed budget will not invest in programs that they believe are crucial to help survivors of crime. everything from mental health services to legal assistance. how? >> the governor for him to do

his job and for him to approve the budget that >> they say as a stance today, the governor's budget proposal lacks the funding needed to adequately help victims. it comes as the governor has said he may have no other choice but to either cut or limit funding for some programs that the state faces a projected multibillion-dollar deficit. we are here to demand that california step up to meet its rocked responsibility to survivors while they are concerned with the governor's budget proposal, they applauded legislative democratic leaders for coming out with their own budget proposal. assembly speaker robert remus and senate president pro tempore mike mcguire announced the proposal wednesday claiming it will not cut core services include it in their plan. 103 million dollar investment for crime victims support programs. means our advocacy is working yet. >> just after this. good morning, everybody. the assembly budget committee met to review the legislature's budget proposal, a proposal that calls for 2 billion more

dollars in education and homelessness pending the governor's proposal. in addition of that democratic leaders about their proposal will slash the governor's proposed cuts to state funding social services, including in-home care for eligible undocumented californians and cash aid for low income californians in the cow works program. we have ensured. >> the budget is not balance most vulnerable populations but to balance the budget. democrats who came up with the plan are proposing 1 billion dollars in additional climate cuts and 1 billion dollars in additional prison cuts. the plan also calls for the state to accelerate a pause of some tax credits for large businesses. these were difficult choices. we have to set priorities in created in actions because that is what this moment requires. but republicans say they're frustrated. the plan was negotiated only among democrats. seems right now that the budget is very focused on a political narrative on a political ideology and sometimes californians just want to the government to solvent. >> and the programs that they actually care about that

400 million dollars sitting unspent in city hall today. >> he's referring to proposition c that past is aimed at giving early child care and education services for children up to 5 years old for low income families. but due to legal challenges that tax revenue cannot be sent until april 2021. farrell said he had plan to help struggling families faster. we will offer subsidies to help low and middle income parents and guardians afford local child care services, ensuring accessibility across all income levels here in our city for child care. we will raise wages for childcare workers to address the shortage of qualified professionals. he says parents average of nearly $40,000 between infant preschool care. well, and he's elected as mayor. he promises to change that state reimbursements failed to cover the true costs of this care. exacerbating the financial strains on families here in san francisco. >> that are still trying in many cases to recover from the

covid-19 pandemic. and these early years are so critical that mayor london breed's team says. >> idea it's coming straight from her own child care and early education platform and share the following statement in a desperate attempt at relevance. mark farrell has been digging through the recycling bin outside mayor breed's office for his policy ideas. and this is often what she says are her accomplishments, including that she doubled the number of children receiving early here in education subsidies annually from 6,000 to 12,000 in just 5 years, adding that the also cut the waitlist for subsidized early care and education by 72%. they can real rally off whatever staff so they want right now. but the honest answer is. >> they have not use these funds and they are sitting there. these are taxes that the city of francisco's collective and simply haven't been used for in san

onshore winds out oflthe northwest, they are into the teens. you'll notice that's a good direction like that. look at the current numbers. lower 90's in spots, concord at 90 livermore, pittsburgh at 95. 92 for brentwood. meanwhile, 70 for oakland. so we have a big decoupling like we see in the summer between the east bay shoreline and well inland to get used to this because this is just a sample of what's coming up for us next week. eighties. meanwhile, up to the north bay waking up a mostly sunny chilly at the coast. 74 inland. 56 at the coast. 59 even by high noon, 83 already in london. we're looking at 88 inland with some 90's hanging out, but still chilly. 59 at the coast that underscores how cold that water is. it hasn't responded yet to the change of seasons like the airmass is which typical for 5th grade science class. okay. here's what happens on friday morning saturday morning. excuse me, some of that moisture starts to settle a little bit in the southern end of the east bay shoreline. that may potentially bring some morning drizzle. but don't worry about that. that will mix out very

program started by mayor matt mahan launched in hopes to help keep the streets clean. the pilot program will require volunteers clean up litter in their neighborhoods. the city will be providing a people with litter kits in safety vests and gloves. residents that are interested can sign up at the mayor's office. >> the newly named callie bunga south bay water park will be opening next month. cali bunga is promising. 23 acres of water attractions once it opens up the former raging waters location. a sacramento-based company took over the lease for the site earlier this year. they didn't announce the exact date for the grand in june, but they did say tickets are going to be available soon and we will let you know what they are. >> all right. san francisco is getting ready to host a rave. the massive dance party featuring skrillex and fred, again will take over the city's civic center this saturday. the event is expected to draw in 20,000 people. and that was all started because of the social media post right here. last
