news station. this is. news 11. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn. >> a fire breaks out egg farm in the north bay and damages a barn. fortunately, a spokesperson for petaluma egg farm says the barn was empty and no one was injured. but the fire caused quite a scene for people miles away. kron four's sara stinson reports. >> smoke from the fire here at the pedal loom egg farm could

be seeing all the way down town, which had some worried about the chickens and the farm workers. well, i just turned the corner and there was this shot. it looks like a monster. thankfully, no chickens were inside. everyone is okay. >> that's good. that's really a large plume of smoke could be seen coming from a farm in the unincorporated part of petaluma. i just saw dark clouds like that. >> okay. there's no rain in the forecast. not sure about that. and then the thing came over my phone and then i knew a barn caught fire at petaluma egg farm on kavanaugh, a lane just after 2. >> the sonoma county sheriff's office used a helicopter to assist multiple fire agencies on the ground, putting out the flames and making sure the fire didn't spread. but the wind made their job harder was pushing the smoke right now on top of the other bar. and so. >> creating an immediate exposure to catch those on fire as well as the grass and the homes across the across the way. and so when not in

our favor and had we been about a month later than this, it would have been a tremendously different story. fire crews were able to contain the fire to the barn. a spokesperson for petaluma egg farm says. >> the barn was recently remodeled and wasn't being used. yes, that's a really so everybody's okay. and it was just the bar and the structure itself and the chickens. a veteran coal bit the last couple >> so yeah, they need a break. >> fire crews remain here at the farm to investigate the cause of the fire. the family that runs pedal in egg farm is working with investigators trying to figure out if this was arson or an accident. i'm sara stinson reporting in petaluma kron. 4 news. >> the jewelry store in the east bay all boarded up tonight after it was robbed. newark police say at least a dozen people went into bindi jewelers on newpark mall road around 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon, they shattered display cases and took off with a large amount of

jewelry. no one was injured, but police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call. the man arrested after an assault at a vta station yesterday now faces an attempted murder charge. investigators say 26 year-old andrew perez was wearing it armored vest when he attacked the victim on a station platform. tonight, investigators released surveillance video of that assault. and we do want to warn you some viewers might find this video to be disturbing. this was at the vta children's discovery museum station. you can see perez there and going up to the man with his bike. that immediately starts assaulting him, tossing him to the ground. and there you can see that perez is wearing an armored vest. perez then barricaded himself inside his home after this app and eventually he was arrested by deputies. the victim only identified as a 45 year-old was taken to the hospital be treated for his injuries, including some deep cuts that required staples. former college professor will spend more than 5 years in federal prison for arson. 49 year-old

gary maynard pleaded guilty back in february to 3 counts of arson on federal property. prosecutors say maynard said a series of fires in shasta-trinity national forest in july 2021. mile crews battled the destructive dixie fire mayor todd criminology at sonoma state and santa clara university's. >> unfortunately, this is their new norm. i think this this kind of behavior has happened decades before this experience today. >> and he's a high school on lockdown for several hours today after getting a call about explosives on campus and a gunman. this all started around 10 o'clock this morning at cal high in san ramon. police in specialty units responding to the school. they used bomb-sniffing dogs. drone said most students how to be kept inside their classrooms. >> we have to like block out the door all the lights are turned off were all are not

always the bathrooms norm. now, right? >> all the school shootings that have happened over the last couple yeah, that's what we always have. these lockdown drills as well. that's also also was a long happened. and then that's when find those and other serious. >> well, police did not find any explosives on campus. and students were eventually sent home. police say they plan to do an extensive investigation to try to track down who made these calls. search is underway tonight in palo alto for the suspects who broke into homes where the residents were still inside. the first break-in was around 10 o'clock tuesday morning on seal avenue. police say a woman in her 60's noticed her door had been pried open from the outside. she says she believes the thieves heard her and then ran off. officers say nothing was taken or moved in the home. the second one happening around 7 o'clock yesterday morning on palo alto avenue. police say woman in her 30's told them she heard the front door open and close and then our phone and wallet were gun. the victim says she went

outside and found her staff on the sidewalk just a few feet away from the house. police say 2 break-ins are not connected, though. and inmate who escaped a correctional facility in hollister found in san jose. 38 year-old daniel lopez zavala escape the san benito correctional facility on tuesday. the sheriff's office say he jumped over a barbed wire fence and say his girlfriend allegedly helped him escape. he was arrested last night at a hotel in san jose. the sheriff's office says of allah associates with northern gang members and is charged several felonies, including child abuse. the san mateo county sheriff's office moving into its new headquarters this week. it will fully open its doors to the community on the first monday of june. the new state-of-the-art headquarters is located at 3.30, bradford street and downtown redwood city. all right. let's get you a check your forecast tonight as we're taking a live look at sfo. looks like some friendly skies out there. dave spahr

giving us a look at what to expect a day. all right. and we're seeing some of that fog trying to develop a little bit. that's good. we're getting some surface moisture building a little bit, but don't expect much fog by tomorrow morning. >> the only kind of addendum to this is maybe a little bit on saturday morning, a little bit of drizzle in the east bay shoreline winds there actually settling down a little bit. part of the reason, basically, as we're not getting the sunshine heating inland like we did before and therefore, the whole system is starting to wind down and the air is starting to separate a little bit quick check into those actual temperatures when you got them around the bay there in the 50's to near 60 inland and mid 70's that that are even lower 70's. so the contrast not so great lows tonight. there you have in the 50's lining up in the east bay shoreline. 62 for any act but a chilly 49 for half moon bay. alright, waking up tomorrow morning, mostly sunny, chilly at the coast. 56. 74 inland by midday. we're talking 83 inland, but very little change of the coast. and that will be the case in the afternoon. it will be hot inland as temperatures again will tap

enter into a new solar project will help the east bay municipal utility district. >> cut down on greenhouse gas emissions over the past few years. the utility partnered with an energy company to install thousands of giant solar panels across major stretches of land all in an effort to save money on energy. each panel generates kilowatt hours. those kilowatt hours gets fed back into the grid and even mugs able to buy those kilowatt hours at a discount to what buying today. >> because clean energies of florida. >> he spent months partnership with total energies, renewables is slated to last. 25 years, utilities expected to save at least 26 million dollars during that time span. they say customers will benefit not seen rate increases usually caused by rising energy costs. after

weeks of treatment for starvation, a group of 8 rehabilitated brown pelicans has been released back into the wild. the pelicans were set free at fort baker in sausalito today to the birds taking off there. they were initially found in mid april. they were suffering from starvation. injuries caused by fishing hooks. and this group is the first among 320 birds scheduled for release, most of which were rescued from the monterey and santa cruz areas. some of these birds have been in care as little as a couple of probably were found and brought in. >> still doing quite well. others were more like 30, 40, 50 days, even so those are birds that probably had a bigger challenge to overcome. >> the free pelicans can be tracked on the international bird rescue is website and bird rescue dot org. and nearly a mile long water main replacement project in san anselmo is going to cause some traffic disruption for a few months. this all begins in mid-june. according to the
