with events almost daily leading to the big pride event at the end of the month and federal law enforcement are war warning both lgbt community and its supporters that foreign terrorist or other u.s. based allies may target lgbt venues and events throughout the month, which could lead to hate crimes or violence. take a listen to what the san francisco fbi officials had to say. >> i a very good grasp what's normal behavior for their surroundings. encourage them that they see something that's very suspicious, very out of the that they report that. >> the fbi says the volume and intensity of propaganda has increased following the october 7th, the hamas attack in israel. and as of now, there is no specific threat for the city of san francisco, but rather a warning for all major cities and any pride events that are happening across the country. so as we get more updates from officials will continue to keep you updated. that's a very latest here in the

newsroom. i'm michael thomas. i will send it back to you. all right. thank you, michael. >> all right. let's get back to the other breaking news this morning. northbound highway 1, 1, a palo alto shut down because of a fatal accident. so rain was telling us about. let's go live to the scene now with kron four's will tran will. >> this all started with a driver, possibly drowsy and got into an accident. and ultimately it cost him his life. you can see what's going on right behind me. 3 vehicles, 2 cars and then a tractor. so this started at around 3 o'clock. you see that green light pole there. they believe, according to the chp, a driver of a red suv fell asleep at the wheel hit that green light pole kept going to the center lanes and then was hit from behind from a site on. we show you this eye on right there. they managed to get the site on off of the freeway at this time gets hit in the back by that gray or

silver scion. then at some point, the driver of the red suv, the driver who they believe fell asleep at the wheel, gets out of his suv and all of a sudden a tractor comes along and then hits the suv plowing that suv into him, dragging him all the way to ultimately where you can see it right there against concrete barrier here. that person has not been identified. all parties are cooperating. they have just opened up a second lane of the freeway. they hope to get out of here, maybe over the next 30 minutes or so for all lanes. but right now you can see they still have to do their measurements. they still have to clean this up. this all started at 2.55. in the morning. they do not believe speed or alcohol at any roles in behind this. it was simply a person drowsy at the wheel,

got into an accident with a light pole. and from there, it just went down hill as far as a chain-reaction accident. >> that ultimately cost that driver's life. and then i did ask chp, what are you supposed to do if you are in an accident, especially if you are in the center lane. officers said if there's nobody else around try even if you have to run off the freeway. but if there are other cars, stay in side. you're car. that is the safest place. but you can be unfortunately, the driver got out of his car and that's when all on. unfortunately, the chain-reaction accident cost him his life. >> all right. thank i think this this kind of behavior has happened decades before this experience today. >> apparent talking about what happened at cal high school

and center mall. they were under lockdown for several hours yesterday after a call came in that there were explosives and a gunman on campus. this was at 10 o'clock. sorry, not yesterday was wednesday morning and the police in specialty units responded. they send out bomb-sniffing dogs and drones, students who are under lockdown. so they were in the classrooms. >> we have to life block out the door. us all the lights are turned off can learn all are not always the bathrooms the norm. now, right? >> all the school shootings that happened over the last couple years. yeah, that's what we always have. these lockdown drills as well. that's also also was a long happened. and then that's when find those of other serious. >> again, this did happen actually yesterday. and you can see the big police response. they didn't find any explosives. the students were sent home police plan to do an extensive investigation try to figure out where those phony calls came from. >> in the south bay, the man arrested after an assault at an a t arda vta station is now

facing an attempted murder charge. investigators have released surveillance video of that assault and we want to warn you might be difficult to watch, but this is what the vta children's discovery museum station captured their cameras. you can see the 2 men there tap the screen and then the assault occurred. investigators say andrew perez was wearing an armored vest when he attacked a man on the station's platform, you can see press here going up to the man with the bike and as you saw a moment ago, immediately started punching and kicking him. the assault continues for some time. and then that closer vantage point prez was actually you can see wearing that armored vest. he eventually ran off and barricaded himself inside his home before ultimately being arrested. the victim only identified as a 45 year-old man was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries, including some deep cuts that required staples to close at 608. and another big story that we're following. donald trump becomes the first former u.s. president. >> to be convicted of a felony. yeah. he was found

guilty on all 34 charges facing him in that hush money trial in new york. the basil john. >> in new york this morning with more on the historic moment. >> history was made as donald trump was convicted by the new york jury for falsifying business records before the 2016 election. this is disgraceful for former president. donald trump was furious after he left the courtroom and was found guilty in the hush money trial. we didn't do very innocent trump is now the first former u.s. president to be convicted of a crime and now faces a possible punishment o 4 years in prison. new york district attorney alvin bragg calls this a huge win. we should all be thankful for the careful attention. >> that this jury paid to evidence and the law jury deliberations took place over 2 days as the verdict came down.

bay area college professor is sentenced to more than 5 years in federal prison for arson. gary maynard pleaded guilty of 3 counts of arson in february. menard said a series of fires in the shasta trey national forest in 2021. while crews battled the dixie fire, maynor taught criminology at sonoma state and santa clara university's. >> happening right now in napa county and overturned trailer is blocking a road now in the pope valley community. hazmat crews have actually been on the scene since last night. you can see the pictures here. this trailer apparently dumped about 800 gallons of liquid fertilizer on the how mountain road. it all happened about 5.45 last night. nobody was injured in the wreck, thankfully, but firefighters from the area are monitoring the scene closely because vapors from that fertilizer could spark a fire. there's currently no estimate now on when that road will

>> it's 6.19, right now on a panel of egg farm is damaged. a fire broke out there yesterday and no chickens are people were hurt in that fire. but it was it caused quite a scene for people. you can see it from miles away. kron 4 sarah stinson reports. >> smoke from the fire here at the pedal. luma egg farm could be seeing all the way down town which had some worried about the chickens and the farm workers. well, i just turned the corner and there was this shot. it looks like a monster. thankfully, no chickens were inside. everyone is okay. >> that's good. that's really a large plume of smoke could be seen coming from a farm in the unincorporated part of petaluma. i just saw dark clouds like that. >> okay. there's no rain in the forecast. not sure about that. and then the next something came over my phone and then i knew a barn caught fire at petaluma egg farm on kavanaugh, a lane just after 2. >> the sonoma county sheriff's office used a helicopter to assist multiple fire agencies

>> here's what's going on. they hope to open up all the lanes of northbound 101 over the 20 minutes or so. right now, caltrans is trying to clean up all of the debris and the chemicals from the cars that were involved in this accident. they did shut down one lane again because caltrans needed that lane so they can bring in their heavy equipment to clean up the roadway. >> pick up all of the debris from the cars involved. >> after that, they will be able to open up all lanes and it all started guys see that green light pole. this all started at around 3 o'clock in the morning with the driver they believe was just drowsy at the wheel hits that green light pole, then ricocheted off it and up in the center lane and that person ultimately gets hit by another car. so let me walk you through the chain of events. you can see that silver

silent. that's still versailles on actually slams into the back of that red suv is beyond the flatbed truck. the driver of that red suv they believe was drowsy, hit the green light pole then gets hit the back from behind from that side yard. then for some unknown reason the driver of the red suv gets out of his suv in the middle of the freeway. and then all of a sudden a tractor, not a tractor trailer, but just the front end of a semi truck slams into the back of the red suv at that particular point. the rest of red suv plows into the driver dragging him underneath it all the way. and so right where you see it at this particular time. so not speed, not alcohol. simply the driver falling asleep at the wheel. they plan clear this scene out as quickly as they possibly can by possibly as early as 7 o'clock in the

morning. uc flatbed truck already has one car there. they have big tow truck to tow away the tractor on the other side, the coroner's office has just arrived. i understand the basic description of the driver in the suv was a man between 25 and 30 years old. but fortunately right here, the frontage road on the right side of your screen. there. drivers obviously not being allowed to hop onto the freeway, but they do have a frontage road where they can drive past the scene here. get to university avenue and then hop back on to the freeway. back to you. that's going add a lot of time that so we have following we'll check in with will to live later on. thank >> 64 is the time from 4 is your local election headquarters and san francisco mayoral candidate mark farrell says he has a plan now to ease the cost of childcare in the city. the former mayor also called mayor london breed out for not doing enough on this issue. crawford lezla gooden has more.

>> on thursday, mark farrell and now to plans to create universal health care for children in san francisco, adding that the city has been slow in making progress in the childcare department. problem is not a lack of funds. >> it's since simply a lack of leadership and accountability. voters approved the tax in 2018 dedicated for this. you specifically. but nearly 400 million dollars sitting unspent in city hall today. he's referring to proposition c. >> that pass and is aimed at giving early child care and education services for children up to 5 years old for low income families. but due to legal challenges that tax revenue cannot be spent until april of 2021. farrell says he has a plan to help struggling families faster. >> we will offer subsidies to help low and middle income parents and guardians afford local child care services, ensuring accessibility across all income levels here in our city for child care. we will

raise wages for childcare workers to address the shortage of qualified professionals. >> he says parents spend an average of nearly $40,000 between infant preschool care amount. and if he's elected as mayor, he promises to change that. >> state reimbursements failed to cover the true costs of this care. exacerbating the financial strains on families here in san francisco that are still trying in many cases to recover from the covid-19 pandemic. and these early years or so critical. but mayor london breed's team says >> barrels idea. it's coming straight from her own child care. >> and early education platform and shared the following statement in a desperate attempt at relevance. marc farrow has been digging through the recycling bin outside mayor breed's office for his policy ideas and listed off what she says are her accomplishments, including that she doubled the number of children receiving early care and education

seeley avenue. police say a woman in her 60's noticed or door had been pried open from the outside. she says she believes the burglar heard her and ran off. officers say nothing was taken or moved in the home, but then a second break-in happened wednesday morning. this time on palo alto avenue. police say woman told them she heard the front door open and close and then her phone and wallet were gone. the victim says she went outside and found her stuff on the sidewalk. a few feet away from the house. police say the 2 break-ins they don't think are connected. >> it's 6, 37 3 san mateo county deputies are recovering after being injured while they were arresting some would-be car thieves wednesday night in a parking lot outside the cvs on san carlos avenue. a woman lost her keys earlier in the day and a group was attempting to steal her car. deputies attempted to detain the robbers, they ended up getting assaulted. the officers did they had to call for backup. 2 men from morgan hill were

arrested and the injured deputies were taken to the hospital, expected to make a full recovery 6.38 right now, governor newson is urging state lawmakers to be careful about over regulating artificial intelligence. the governor give remarks during a generative ai. some of that happened in san francisco where they're a tech leaders and university leaders as well. more lawmakers are working on placing safeguards on this emerging technology because they're concerned about the potential hazards and privacy concerns. governor newsom says he doesn't want to stifle eyes growth at the same time in california wants to ensure that the state remains a tech leader. >> i mean, this is this is a 35 to 50 top market cap and companies are just right here in our own backyard. so if we over regulate, if we overindulge, we chase assignee object, you know, we put ourselves in perilous

pronged fix so we can get back to doing business in california. >> rex frazier's with the personal insurance federation of california, which represents large auto and home insurance companies in california. oftentimes it takes months and months before an insurance company even knows where it stands with the state. under this proposal, the state at 60 days and every 30 days thereafter they would have to declare where they stand on a rate filing that accountability. that's good for everyone. the governor has proposed a plan that is not going to get homeowners access to more coverage and affordable price. but carmen bill burr with the group consumer watchdog thinks the proposal gives away too much. what the governor has proposed will tie the hands of the insurance commissioner and reviewing rate hikes and cut public participants out of the process. and that is guaranteed to lead to higher unjustified rates for california homeowners. now it'll be up to state legislators to decide whether to include the governor's insurance proposal as it stands or change it when approving this year's budget.
