try to maneuver around those delays were seen along 1, 0, 1, 82 and 2.80. are going to be your best options. other bridges and highways, no major issues. so bay bridge, 15 minutes there, san mateo bridge around 15 even have a stalled vehicle here. what's going on? a richmond center fell bridge just short of 13 and the golden gate. 37 of the toast 20 minutes. all right, james, back to you. all right, let's get back to our big story. northbound highway 101 in palo alto shutdown. cause of fatal crash kron four's will tran live at the scene for us with the update and the. >> slow but steady progress. well. >> well, james, they were hoping to open up all lanes of northbound 101 by 7 o'clock this morning. but they are running behind because they are still conducting their investigation. you can clearly see now that they have the red suv on that flatbed truck. on the other side, you might be able to make out that yellow tractor. 3 vehicles were involved in this accident.

they're hoping to open up all lanes now by 7.30, this morning. they will not drive down the freeway. instead, they'll use the on ramp and drive backwards to get all the vehicles off of the roadway then and only then will they be able to open up all lanes of the freeway on northbound 1, 1, at san antonio avenue. now this all started with the driver of the red suv. they believe he was drowsy at the wheel and actually hit a light pole off of the freeway ricocheted off of that and then was rear ended by a silver signed on. then the driver of the red suv gets out of his suv. moments later that tractor that yellow tractor slams into his suv plows. the suv into him. he was actually underneath the suv in the impact caused him to die from his injuries. and the coroner's office just removed

his body. his name obviously not be released to the public at this time, but they believe he was between. 25 and 30 years old. speed out. all not factors. just simply horrible accident where it started with him just being drowsy at the wheel. it has caused a major backup since 3 o'clock in the morning. we will swing the camera. torts traffic. not exactly sure where it begins. g'm sure reyna can tell under maps, but look at this. james and darya as far as we can possibly see. it is still one lane through this particular stretch and beyond that particular part that's running store if and that's a probably about 2 miles from my location. so that's how far it stretches as far as i can see. the goal is around 7.30, all lanes of northbound. one on one. back to you. thanks to help commuters are seeing this because a lot of times autopilot they don't watch and they get stuck in. that will thank you. even though even if they do get it reopened at

>> and now the police are investigating to see where those threats came from. >> in the south bay, the man arrested after an assault at a vta station is now facing an attempted murder charge. investigators have released surveillance video of that assault. we want to warn you, it might be a little disturbing to watch, but here's a portion of it out of the children's discovery museum station. top of your screen, investigators say andrew perez was wearing an armored vest when he attacked a man on the station platform. you see it there. he went up to him. man with a bike started immediately started punching him. here's a close-up shot. the assault continued for some time until perez eventually randolph and barricaded himself inside of his home before being arrested. the victim has only been identified as a 45 year-old man. he was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries, including some pretty deep cuts that required staples. >> now a big story that we've been following with donald trump. he now has become the first former u.s. president to be convicted of a felony crime

found guilty on all 34 charges of paying hush money to influence the 2016 election. basil, john is in new york city now with more on this historic moment. history was made as donald trump was convicted by the new york jury for falsifying business records before the 2016 election. this was disgraceful for former president. donald trump was furious after he left the courtroom. >> and was found guilty in the hush money trial. we very innocent trump is now the first former u.s. president to be convicted of a crime and now faces a possible punishment o 4 years in prison. new york district attorney alvin bragg calls this a huge win. we should all be thankful for the careful attention. that this jury paid to evidence and the law jury deliberations took place over 2 days as the verdict came down near the end of the

wednesday. that man cafe is hosting a specific time and venue has not yet been revealed. with nearly mile long water main replacement project in san anselmo will cause a few months of traffic disruptions starting in mid-june, according to marin water, which provides water to nearly 200,000 customers up in marin county. this project will run along sarah frances trick boulevard from san francisco boulevard to butterfield road. the project is expected to wrap up in november and by and when it's all said and done, it will replace 4500 feet of aging cast iron pipe. >> time now 709. and still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, a former bay area professor is sentenced to and will do prison time for this arson. it happened during a major wildfire. we'll have more on that. plus more on a fire that was hit from the ground and the air. this was at an egg farm in pedal >> and we are looking at a day today that is going to bring the return of fog eventually the coastline. but before then enjoy some sunshine out there.

right here. getting capture right in the middle of the bay. >> the high pressure ridge just completely making any pollutants that we have pushed right at the surface. but a little bit of good news for those of you that don't really like the way that looks all this set of changes today. we're seeing crystal clear skies from the coast to our inland areas. but this low centered up to our north and the cold front along with it will skirt right past the region, creating enough lift to get all that haziness out. but creating enough of an onshore breeze that the fog is going to push and that is going to contribute to a cooler weekend tomorrow into sunday today being the warmest one of your weekend. so if you like that warmth, particularly enjoy today, nice and clear at the coastline this morning with those calm, calm winds, half moon bay, it only at 2 miles per hour. love a start to the morning like that into the late afternoon today that sea breeze kicks back up, though, that's going to transport some ocean cool there into the bay. and along with that, we are also going to see the placement of a little bit of fog right back into the bay as well. so that

successfully file returns using direct file during the most recent tax season. and that pilot program saved an estimated 5 and a half million in tax prep fees. well, the pilot focus on simple tax returns, but the irs will share more details on next year's program later this year. it was on cleared a key hurdle that will enable it to expand drone deliveries. the faa is allowed amazon to fly drones out of sight of a ground, a spotter so that will enable them to fly farther distances. and this opens the door for the company's scale. that service to more parts of the u.s. well, gap just did something it hasn't done in quite some time. it's saw sales gains across all of its brands. gap old navy banana republic, although like recently old navy did the best. they saw strong shopping mall shopping. interestingly enough and tiktok is reportedly building a special algorithm just for the u.s. in preparation for potential sale of the business efforts to rebuild the algorithm would allow the video sharing app to operate separately from bytedance. its parent company

potentially clearing the way for it to remain operational in the u.s. of it sold to a u.s. buyer live from the nasdaq market site. i'm jane king. back to you. james, thank you very much, jane. >> in east bay, a big jewelry store heist. this store was hit in the east bay. it's all boarded up where thieves went into bindi jewelers newpark mall road on wednesday afternoon shattered the glass cases took off with bunches of jewelry, handfuls and there are a couple of getaway cars because there were bunch robbers. yeah. about a dozen. nobody was hurt which is important. and police are now trying to figure out the exact value of what was taken and they're asking anybody with information mccall. it's 7.19, and a former bexar, a college professor is going to spend 5 years in federal prison for arson. gary maynard pleaded guilty to 3 counts of arson for setting a series of fires in the shasta-trinity national forest in 2021, while crews were battling the dixie fire

menard taught criminology at sonoma state and santa clara university's. >> happening right now up in napa county and overturned trailer is blocking a road in the pope valley community. fact hazmat crews have been on the scene there since last night. the trailer apparently dumped 0.800 gallons of liquid fertilizer all over how a mountain road was about 5.40, last night that it happened. nobody was hurt in this accident. but firefighters are monitoring the scene pretty closely, actually, because they say these vapors from that fertilizer could actually spark a fire. so they're watching it carefully while it's being cleaned up. currently no estimate on when that road will reopen. but we'll let you know when we find out. >> it's 7.19, and the north bay, a huge fire could be seen for miles. it was an egg farm in petaluma. luckily no chickens are. people were hurt in this. but that fire did cause quite the scene visible from miles away 4. sarah stinson takes a closer look. >> smoke from the fire here at the pedal. luma egg farm could be seeing all the way down

town which had some worried about the chickens and the farm workers. well, i just turned the corner and there was this shot. it looks like a monster. thankfully, no chickens were inside. everyone is okay. >> that's good. that's really a large plume of smoke could be seen coming from a farm in the unincorporated part of petaluma. i just saw dark clouds like that. >> okay. there's no rain in the forecast. not sure about that. and then the next something came over my phone and then i knew a barn caught fire at petaluma egg farm on kavanaugh, a lane just after 2. >> the sonoma county sheriff's office used a helicopter to assist multiple fire agencies on the ground, putting out the flames and making sure the fire didn't spread. but the wind made their job harder was pushing the smoke right now on top of the other bar. and so. >> creating an immediate exposure to catch those on fire as well as the grass and the homes across the across the way. and so when not in

say it's affected. policy holders will be notified in writing. it's 7.26. and tomorrow is california's first ever adopt a pet day? san francisco is one of 170 animal shelters that will be across the state trying to find homes for about 2000. plus pets. and they're also trying bring awareness to the overcrowding conditions that exist in california's animal shelters. the times you can a very at the various shelters in san francisco. their event tomorrow is from 11:00am until 06:00pm. and that's their location on florida street. and in the south bay, san jose residents can sign up to adopt. not a pet. put a block. and you know, you clean up after your pet. so cleanup and your neighborhood of trash. this is a new volunteer program that was just announced by mayor matt mahan. he just launched it to try to keep the streets cleaner where volunteers will clean up the litter in the neighborhood and the city will give you a

>> so in 29, want to get to the breaking news we've been covering, which is northbound highway 101 in palo alto. this has been shut down but not completely by now. but still the damage is done. it was a phalanx crawford's will trend on the scene that followed the progress all morning. what's the update? will? >> it took 4 and a half hours,

but they have finally reopen up all lanes of northbound 101. this happened at around 07:30am, in the morning and you can see traffic moving along just fine after they removed it. 3 vehicles from the roadway. this unfortunately is a fatal accident. all started because someone was drowsy at the wheel. you can see the shoulder there. that's caltrans because they were already on the freeway. they are going to fix those metering lights. those metering lights played a role in all that. this. let me show you the video that we got earlier this morning that actually started at around 3 o'clock in the morning when a driver of a red suv was according to the chp drowsy at the wheel, slams into well light right next to the on ramp here at san antonio and northbound 101, bounces off of that light goes into the center lanes when the driver was hit from behind by a

silver signed on. then at some point, the driver of that red suv gets out of the suv stands on the freeway. and all of a sudden a tractor, not a full tractor trailer, but just a tractor slams into his suv, sending the suv in to him and then drags him underneath the suv all the way. >> to the wall, the far-right wall on the freeway. >> he died from his injuries, drugs, alcohol, not factors. just somebody at 3 o'clock the morning. tired behind the wheel and it ultimately cost him his life. the chp came out here. they obviously had to shut down the roadway for quite some time. take measurements. talk to the driver of the site on and perhaps because the driver probably manage to talk to the driver of the red suv, which is why they believe that the driver of the red suv was just simply drowsy at the time.

president eric part says east bay mud can buy those hours at a discounted rate because clean energy is affordable every year there 10% of their total energy costs being offset by this project. we cannot be successful in our mission. >> without protecting the environment to partnership between east bay mud into tell energies is slated for a 25 year contract term. the 10% savings in energy costs are projected to save the utility. 26 million dollars during that span. right pairs will not that would be associated with continuing the way we we are weeks away from really powering this up and getting energy flowing. and so, you know, just in time for the nice weather here and that the long days in the sunshine this project brings the utility another step closer to reaching its goal of being carbon neutral by 2030, in orinda. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> 7.36, the time in 3 san mateo county deputies now d% recovering after they were

hurt while arresting would be car thieves. it happened wednesday night was in a parking lot outside of cbs on san carlos avenue. deputies say a woman lost her keys earlier in the day and a group was attempting to steal her car. tried to detain them when they were assaulted. they had to call for backup. 2 men for morgan hill have been arrested. they now face several charges. the injured deputies were taken to a local hospital and they're expected to make a full recovery. the search is underway right now in palo alto for burglars who broke into 2 homes while the residents were inside. so the first break-in happened tuesday morning. it was on seal avenue. police say that a woman in her 60's noticed or door had been pried open from the outside she believes the burglars heard her and ran off. luckily nothing was taken from the home in the second case, the break-in happened wednesday morning on palo alto avenue and the woman who lives there told police she heard the front door open and close and when she walked around to take a look, she discovered her phone and wallet were gone. the victim went outside and that's what she found them
